‘You know..’ Seishu’s voice cut into the peaceful silence as he dropped a shirt on your lap, one that had holes along the shoulder due to age, ‘you could let him get you some new shirts.’ Settling across from you on the floor, he decided to join you while you separated the clothes for laundry day.
‘I’m not asking him for anything.’ Tossing some towels aside into their own pile, you frowned, looking over to the latter. ‘I’m perfectly capable of going out and using my own money for clothes.. I get good tips, sometimes.’
The blond raised an eyebrow. ‘Is that why you always wear our shirts?’ the sarcasm dripped through the question and you didn’t appreciate it. ‘You’ve had the same sleep shirt for how many years now?’
‘Are you really complaining about me wearing your shirts?’ You lifted one of his shirts, waving it, ‘Or.. are you starting to get self conscious about the oil stains?’ Throwing it at him, you got up to start dropping things into the washing machine, sighing. ‘I just don’t like asking him for things.. he’s gone years being asked for things and I don’t want to add on to it.’
Settling back on his palms, he couldn’t help but roll his eyes. ‘I know you don’t want to.. upset him or seem greedy but I’m more than positive he’d be more than thrilled. You don’t even let him get you birthday gifts.. you argued with both of us about dinner last year. Do you know how that makes him feel? You let me get you things.’
‘Sei,’ you began, closing the machine’s lid a little harder than you intended and turning to look at half of your lover duo, arms crossed, ‘it’s different and you know it.’
Seishu gestured towards you. ‘Tell me how it’s different.’
You knew you couldn’t answer that without somehow demonizing your boyfriend’s complex or infantilizing him. ‘I... It’s just.. I don’t know.’
Chuckling weakly, the blond got to his feet to join you and reached to affectionately squeeze your upper arms. ‘He isn’t a child and we both know that.. continuing to show that you still hold in your mind that he’s some fragile kid isn’t helping. Him and I both know you worry.. but, and I did not tell you this, he feels like you can’t rely on him because you’re aware of all of this. It’s something that’s really going to hinder all of us one day. You know he isn’t going to do something he doesn’t want to and dating or not, he’s under no heavy obligation to do things for either of us. Let him do things for you.’
You deflated at the words, gaze lowering and your previous frown returned, deeper than before. ‘I’m sorry..’ you mumbled, at a loss for words at the sudden seriousness of the latter - it wasn’t something you could have ever expected. ‘I’ll.. talk to him, later.’
Hajime’s presence wasn’t constant considering his line of work and maybe he was concerned about your names and faces becoming a target to someone, but it was a conversation that needed to be had. You could feel the anxiety bubbling up at the idea and tried to shake it off as best as possible. Seeing the smile Seishu offered, you let it go for the time being and nudged him back.
‘We need to figure out dinner.’
Pushing past him and shuffling to the kitchen, you climbed onto the bar stool with pursed lips. ‘Neither of us have made it to a grocery store in some days.. I’m pretty sure the only thing in the cabinets is.. ramen and bread?’
Furrowing his brow, the latter moved to open the drawer and dropped some menus on the counter. ‘Technically.. it’s Koko’s turn for dinner, anyway. Great way to get you ready for that.’
You shot him a glare before reaching to pick through the menus, mumbling something incoherent. Takeout wasn’t common but that never made it easier to pick - sometimes you never found anything at all. ‘Can’t believe you’re weaponizing food to get me to talk to my own boyfriend.’
‘That you love very much and don’t want to lose over insecurities.’
‘I hate you.’
Patting your head, Seishu shifted to lean against the counter. ‘I don’t doubt that somedays. What about pizza? It’s been a while.’
You rolled your eyes and decided not to comment on the first part of his response. ‘Pizza isn’t a bad idea..’ you muttered, shuffling through the stack to pull out the menu for no real reason, it wasn’t like they had a ton of options. However, you were more than content to satisfy the need for something sweet. Right as you tilted your head to start up another conversation, the front door flew open and caused you both to flinch.
‘I’d really like that to stay on the hinges if you don’t mind,’ you greeted, gesturing to the door that was now being closed. You failed to notice the somewhat agitated expression at first. ‘Everything okay?’
‘It’s over.’
Those were words that no one wanted to hear their significant other say and it took you both of guard, staring at the white haired male and waiting for some type of explanation.
‘Bonten. It’s over, disbanded.. dissolved.’
Frowning a little at what could only be considered defeat in his voice, you shifted from your stool to walk over to him, eyebrows pulling together. You nudged him towards the couch, letting him fall down before Seishu and yourself settled on the coffee table in front of him. ‘What happened?’
‘I.. don’t even know. There were so many lights and so much yelling, it was such a mess..’ Hajime was always one you considered to be good with words, very well spoken and clear about getting his thoughts across but now, you were painfully confused.
There was only one way Bonten would have fallen apart, a thought you didn’t want to have and your first instinct was to reach for the t.v remote. Having every intention on checking the news, you were stopped when a hand encased your own. ‘Don’t. We need to get somewhere safe, we don’t have time to waste and sit around.’
Seishu blinked a few times. ‘We were.. in the middle of ordering dinner,’ he mumbled, more or less not taking in the seriousness of the situation for the simple fact Hajime was the only one involved with the others.
‘..We are quite literally fugitives of the prefecture.’ Hajime’s expression had easily shifted back to one that showed his annoyance, eyeing the blond. You wanted to point out that Bonten covered more than just one territory but it wasn’t the right time.
‘So.. no pizza?’
Chuckling, you got to you feet and shook your head. Neither of you were really taking everything into consideration because of the sudden news. ‘Sei.. go order the pizza, we’ll pick it up on our way out of town,’ you sighed deeply, looking around the apartment fondly before shrugging, ‘Koko and I will pack.’
Roaming off to get the food placed, you were left to look over the distressed white haired male, curious what was going through his mind. Hajime wasn’t easy to read, not when he didn’t want to be read and you assumed he was shut off for a reason. ‘It’s not the end of the world, we’ll be fine.’
‘Fine? Inupi has connections around here and people he’s grown fond of and a good job. You don’t even trust me to take care of you,’ he pointed out, ‘I don’t really see us doing well on the run when we’re all going to be arguing and upset.’
The words made you purse your lips but you brushed it aside, not wanting to make things worse. ‘So, you’re going to pretend you and Sei didn’t uproot about nine times in the past? Friends come, they go.. and I could probably promise you Draken isn’t letting him vanish without keeping in touch.’ Shifting to sit beside him, you reached to nudge his cheek with your pointer, ‘As for my problem, I got lectured on it pretty intensely today and with that, I can promise we will be perfectly fine.’
Hajime stayed silent for a moment and you could see the way his frame began to relax, shaking his head. ‘Just feels like another thing that’s fallen apart.’
‘The world could go up in flames and you’re still going to have us,’ you assured, offering a small smile, ‘one thing that will never see an end.’
