Daily album review:
Lust- lords of acid deluxe remastered whatever
Take control- classic arena new beat jam but the song dragged a little bit and was a little cluttered 5/10
Rough sex- cornball perfection from the strings to the whistles 8/10 bc some variety would've been nice in the timbre
Let's get high- this is so fun omg fully renders die antwoord obsolete they're really firing on all cylinders here 9/10 for monotony after the first drop though they pick it up towards the end though
The most wonderful girl: raunchy and camp mid energy banger maintains its inertia better than some of the other tracks I think the vocals could've used more ramge though 7/10 a peak in energy would've been nice
I sit on acid 9/10 I like the part where she says I wanna sit on your face roughly 60 times I'm surprised this isnt more of a staple in gay clubs the only reason it isn't a 10/10 is bc the two remixes are better
Spacey bitch: okay this is giving repo man by way of Belgium warehouse party 8/10 I feel like we're reusing a few too many sounds maybe give this a 9 and dock a point from rough sex or smth
Pump my body to the top 5/10 the stereophonics are nice but like other than that I'm bored
Mixed emotions the texture on these synths are insane 8/10 just could've used more of a focal point
Lessons in love: kinda just whatever 4/10
Hey ho: the snow white interpolation is dumb but the trance instruments are cute 6/10
I just increase my bust: lords of acid at their most gimmicky and annoying 3/10 the vocals are so so so rough
I sit on acid 424/delirious/hard beat/remix (it went through a bunch of different names) 10/10 the street preacher parody is so camp
Let's get high remix; the slow hip hop beat does nothing for this song and the "this is catastrophic" loop is maybe the most annoying I've ever heard 2/10
Rough sex all night grinder mix: 9/10 I love that they went full sci fi
I must increase my bust mno remix: I don't think the instrumental was what was wrong with this one 3/10
I sit on acid soulwax remix: 10/10 this might be the best soulwax remix out there

~*~
Zoissette and Papalymo had worked for moons towards this goal, with no small amount of help from Ryss.
Scholars, while rare, did exist across Eorzea. The Nymians had been a vast trading society at their height, and artifacts from their time could be found across Eorzea. Many of those artifacts where soul stones, and many of those soul stones contained fairies, aetheric constructs of sentient beings, who could lend their abilities to those attuned to them, healing and supporting adventuring groups across the realm.
Finding such a fairy and becoming their companion was one thing. Indeed, one such construct, Lily, had been Zoissette’s companion for many moons.
Creating one was something else entirely.
It had taken many trips into the floating city of Nym, encountering all manner of monsters and traps, old security systems that proved themselves still capable, and deciphering ancient data sources. They had found many such soul stones, and indeed, it looked like their explorations, as well as those of many other adventurers who plumbed the depths, were leading to a resurgence of the lost Nymian art of the Scholar across the realm.
But there were so many missing pieces, unsolvable equations, so much data lost. Recreating the work from first principles was largely considered impossible.
Until now.
Ryss stood by, her quill in her hand, her notebook at the ready. Papalymo lifted his staff high in the air, ready to provide rich aether, as Zoissette finished her preparations. They had encountered many failures, but every failure had been a lesson, and they had learned them well.
After each nodded to one another, Zoissette began the ritual. She opened up her specially made codex, nearly four times as thick as those carried by any Scholar in the field would have been, and let it go as it hovered up into the air. Papalymo concentrated, applying torrents of aether. The codex opened up, and its pages turned, flipping rapidly as equations and precise drawings flared to life.
A wireframe of the outline of what to be looked no more than a miniature person began to form in the air, and runes swirled in the air around it, passing through it, rapidly flying by, stitching it together, helping it form.
And then, there it was. Color filled in the wireframe, starting from its dainty toes and flowing up to the top of its head, and once there, there was a flash of light. Two little wings formed on its back, and it began to fly.
Papalymo continued to sustain the aether stream as Zoissette quickly took the codex back to herself, and drew new patterns into it, running through a predetermined test sequence.
Long minutes passed.
And then she nodded, and with one last flourish of her stylus, Zoissette flung the last bit of spell works from the codex to the aetheric construct. The little sphere of magical energy and instruction she threw nestled in the chest of the construct where it glowed brightly for a moment, and then the little thing curled in around it, absorbing it, and then popped back up, spreading its arms and legs and opening its eyes.
“…I can feel its mind,” said Zoissette, her voice hushed. “We have done it.”
~*~
She wandered around in that dark realm beyond, wherever it was that the rent in the Crystal Tower had taken her and her friends.
Well, and Nero.
The readings in this place beyond were odd and confounding. Runes and sigils were being activated in her codex as fast as she could make them, her magicks striking out against voidsent, spells stabilizing the anima and humours of her allies, and in between she took readings to try and make sense of the aether in this place.
A conversation from her youth floated back to her, and she thought about it. If this was the void, then perhaps, should she not see some inkling of void? Dark energy abounded, and while the aether seemed thin to her, it was nevertheless present. There were diffuse clouds of the dark energies as far as she could see, but that was not quite the same as an actual void. She took a moment to write some geometries that would help her take the measure of the place, and sure enough, the energies present were aspected as far dark as she was capable of discerning. Dark, but present.
Not a true void, not as she was thinking of it.
She frowned.
Her fairy familiar came back to her, returning from administering healing magicks to her comrades. She held her hand out to it, to let it alight on her fingers.
Foxglove landed neatly, and stood stoically at attention. As she always did. Zoissette could feel through the empathic link that she had suffered some sort of ailment, and she quickly looked it over.
She found the problem. Splotchy patches of purple and black spreading across its form.
“Oh no,” she said, quietly.
She flipped through the pages of her codex, and was dismayed at what she found.
The physical appearance of the corruption was a late stage symptom. As she flipped past the glyphs and equations that were the history log of what Foxglove had been experiencing these last few hours, she saw that the corruption had been held off for a bit by Foxglove simply drawing more aether than usual from Zoissette herself. However, as their time had gone on in this dark realm, and Zoissette had had cause to call upon her familiar more and more often, the dark aspected aether had creeped into Foxglove. Invisibile, at first, but Zoissette could see it and its effects in the records.
Foxglove continued to stand, waiting for new instructions.
“I - I must dismiss you, I am so sorry,“ said Zoissette.
As always, Foxglove did not respond much, just a simple feeling of assent through the link. Not like Lily, who had been so lively and full of energy and her own emotions. Foxglove was instead quiet and cold.
Still though. Zoissette considered Foxglove as sentient as Lily had been. She was responsible for her, and she felt concern for her welfare. She closed her eyes and focused, giving Foxglove a gentle dismiss command, and a moment later, the fairy vanished.
She would have to go the rest of this trip without her.
And quickly, lest the fate of her familiar befall her as well.

Helping Your Child with Articulation Disorder
Articulation disorder in children is characterized by an inability to make specific word sounds properly after the expected age. This speech sound disorder often involves substituting one sound for another and slurred or indistinct speech.
Although speech therapy is a vital element in correcting articulation problems, here are some ways to help your child with articulation skills in various environments outside of therapy:
1. Practice Revision Daily
Revision is a technique where you repeat what your child has just said, but with the correct pronunciation. It’s also helpful to give the incorrect word sound extra emphasis. You can practice revision in almost any setting, whether during playtime, at the grocery store, or while driving.
2. Avoid Imitating Your Child’s Errors
Instead of imitating the ways your child pronounces or leaves out sounds, model correct speech. While the ways your child pronounces words can be extremely cute, avoid reinforcing incorrect articulation by laughing at or repeating them. Consider taking a video of your child’s adorable utterances to cherish once they’ve corrected them.
3. Read, Read, Read to Your Child
Reading to your child plays a vital role in their development, including their speech. Listening to you read allows them to enjoy a story while you model correct articulation, making for a speech lesson in disguise. This strategy is especially effective if you read books specifically designed for articulation skills.
4. Incorporate Modeling into Play
Like reading to your child, modeling correct speech during play is a way to sneak in a speech lesson. Whether you’re playing a board game or taking a nature walk, leisure time with your child provides entertainment and subconscious learning opportunities.
5. Narrate Daily Routines
As you and your child go about your daily routines such as getting ready for daycare or school, picking up toys, and during mealtimes, narrate the things you both are doing. This provides a larger variety of words to practice in different settings.
6. Practice Successful Words
While modeling correct pronunciation of words your child struggles with is essential, it’s also important to practice words your child has corrected successfully. This helps them solidify their corrections and reinforces a sense of accomplishment for a job well done.
When to Seek Professional Help
If you’re concerned about your child’s speech and language development, please contact Speech and Occupational Therapy of North Texas to schedule a consultation.
By incorporating these practices into your daily routines, you can support your child's progress in overcoming articulation disorder and improving their speech skills. Please call us at 972-424-0148

1. The Art of Game Design, 2nd Edition, September 2015, By Jesse Schell Chapter 1 In the Beginning, there is the Designer
In this article, the author discusses the concept of game design and what skills are required to be a game designer. It can be said that it sparked my interest because I want to become a 3D environmental artist in the gaming industry. I suspect the author's viewpoint is that some people's innovations are successful because they are too foolish. I cannot understand this viewpoint, so I believe that successful innovation comes from continuous experimentation rather than foolish thinking. The viewpoint I agree with is that "if a game fails, it only indicates that you are not working hard enough and are not a true game designer." The author emphasizes the necessary useful skills, which are animation, anthropology, architecture, business, cinematography, communication, history, mathematics, psychology, etc. The most important skill for games is listening. The five categories of listening are team, audience, game, client, and me. As someone in the gaming industry, I have this feeling, but I haven't listened to my own voice. Sometimes, I forget the role I play in this industry and that I am also a part of the gaming experience.
2. Games and Culture - Issue 4, Volume 5, 10/2010, pp 403-424, by Shaw, Adrienne
In this paper, the author describes Game Culture which is an abstract concept of art, doing approach video games through the lens of culture should adopt the same critical and reflexive ways of culture that cultural studies have.
First, the author thinks ‘‘Game culture’’ is often defined via descriptions of gamers, and the author analyzed the game categories, including "who plays the video games", "how they play", and "what they play". I still agree with this point because the author has summarized it comprehensively, and these three perspectives determine the development direction of the game, but with the development of the gaming industry, the emergence of popular discourse has made video games more diverse.
3.Video Game Art Reader -version_2.1.2018,Volume 2, Number 1, pp 15-27, by Martin Zeilinger
In this paper, the author narrates the limits of performance in virtual environments, including racial conflict, powerful gender, survivalism, and game policies. He used the example of GTA for analysis and criticism.
First, he believes that with the development of the internet, the struggle against racism has become increasingly severe, leading to the death of virtual reality in many gaming worlds. GTA's games are full of violence, pornography, and slaughter, and I agree with this opinion because GTA is like a survival game. Although the game is not real life, it can reflect turbulent phenomena in modern society.
In GTA V, the author thinks female NPCs play a gender-discriminatory role. When a player threatens and harasses a female NPC, it triggers the NPC's instinctive reflection, being chased, running, and screaming. But I think this is not gender discriminatory, this is women's self-defence approach.
4.Pavey, S. (2021) Playing Games in the School Library : Developing Game-Based Lessons and Using Gamification
Chapter 7: How Do We Know Game-Based Learning is an Effective Approach to Teaching and Learning?
This chapter focuses on using playing games to learn different knowledge. First, the author believes that gamification can provide encouragement to students, and students can cultivate learning methods through games. To allow students to play video games in the library, the author proposed the psychology of teaching and learning using games, and strategy games are very characteristic and popular, attracting many people who are very interested in the type of game. He thinks "how students learn in a broader sense helps us design an effective game for use in a library setting." Plass, Perlin and Nordlinger (2010) argue that ‘the design process of games for learning involves balancing the need to cover the subject matter with the desire to prioritize gameplay.’ I agree with the author's quotes from these scholars, but with the development of technology, some outdated design concepts and ideas also need to be constantly updated, rather than just game approaches.
5. Evaluating enjoyment, presence, and emulator sickness in VR games based on first- and third-person viewing perspectives by Monteiro, Diego; Liang, Hai‐Ning; Xu, Wenge; Brucker, Marvin; Nanjappan, Vijayakumar; Yue, Yong, Computer animation and virtual worlds, 05/2018, Volume 29, Issue 3-4
In this article, the author mainly describes the possibility of dizziness and disease in group members testing VR simulators. Firstly, try to increase motor function, as exercise can activate the cerebral cortex, thereby reducing the risk of illness; Next is to expand the field of view and reduce the occurrence of dizziness. Afterwards, they conducted research on immersive virtual environments, and the results showed that there was an immersive feeling from any angle. Later, they analyzed 1PP and 3PP again, and the result was that 1PP refers to users needing to wear virtual devices to see the virtual world, while 3PP transforms themselves into gamers wandering in the virtual world, where player arm and leg movements can be synchronized with virtual world characters. They chose a racing game as their test and received 27 questionnaires after the experiment. Finally, in terms of interactive and immersive modes, the dizziness caused by 1pp and 3pp is not significant, but 3pp is better. I think the biggest problem with dizziness is still based on the perspective of the simulator and the heaviness of the head-mounted device. I believe we will overcome this difficulty in the future.
6. Video Games Do Affect Social Outcomes: A Meta-Analytic Review of the Effects of Violent and Prosocial Video Game Play by Tobias Greitemeyer and Dirk O. Mügge, Volume 40, Issue 5
In this article, the author conducted a study on whether video games have image aggressiveness and helpfulness, and the results showed that due to the influence of content, the aggressiveness of video games changes accordingly. The author gives an example that 97% of American teenagers enjoy playing video games, and the average weekly time spent playing games is 13 hours. In addition, violent games are relatively popular. Researchers conducted a survey and the results showed that the content of games has both positive and negative impacts. Subsequently, researchers conducted extensive research on violence again, with an increase in aggressive behaviour and a gradual decrease in helpful behaviour. The content of violence seems to have a causal relationship with the player's emotions. Similarly, pro-social game content can increase the player's helpfulness and reduce their aggression. I agree with the author's viewpoint, but the experiment may only target young and adult Americans, so the final conclusion needs to be further studied.
7. The Routledge Companion to Video Game Studies(2023), Chapter 1, Artifact,pp03-09, Edited by Mark J.P. Wolf, Bernard Perron
From this article, the author believes that artifacts can express different things, that is anything that can be designed in a broad sense (Friedman, 2007), including artificial products. Afterwards, the author introduced the relationship between "artificial" and video games, and studied the artificial products of games, which can be summarized as "Material Artifacts", "Software Artifacts", and "Culture Artifacts". I have conducted a specific analysis on this point, As for the materials of games, with the continuous improvement of game engines, the materials of games have become increasingly important. Secondly, the software or engine of the game, which is the most important part, determines the quality and running speed of the game. Finally, the culture of the game, which can also be said to be the history or story of the game, will have a profound impact on people's emotions.
8. Video Game Art Reader -version_4.1.2022, Volume 4, Number 1, pp 19-30, by Funk, Tiffany
This article mainly discusses the labor and capital generated by artists as assets. For artists, the Unity Asset Store provides an innovative platform where everyone can compete and communicate. Some good assets in the Unity Asset Store can be used for trading and generating profits, allowing developers enough time and energy to invest in research and development, thereby creating better works. The author views labor and capital in the Unity Asset Store from a Marxist perspective and analyzes them based on various models. If, As Ruggill and McAllister assert, "Play is the engine of human so"- Socialization, learning, and sense making, which means that labor provides creativity for production. It can be said that having assets increases an artist's efficiency and income to a certain extent. I believe that purchasing art assets does indeed increase the efficiency of developers, but it can also create a certain degree of dependency and have a negative impact on students and developers. Serious works may be considered plagiarism.
9. The Art of Game Design, 2nd Edition, September 2015, By Jesse Schell
Chapter Eight The Game is Made for a Player
In this article, the author explains that game design is actually centered around players, creating excellent experiences. As game designers and developers, it is even more important to listen to the voices of players and understand their thoughts. As a student, first of all, I agree with the author's viewpoint that players are the center of game developers and also a valuable tool in the author's view. Secondly, as a beginner, while having my own creativity, I also need to investigate the satisfaction level of some players with my own game works, in order to infer the value and recognition of my own game. Afterwards, the author grouped people of different age groups according to the type of game. I think the author's way of categorizing narrative is very clear and explicit. The author also compared the differences between the male gaming world and the female gaming world. Taking males as an example, they are referred to as "Mastery", "Competition", "Destruction", "Spatial Puzzles", "Trial and Error". Among them, male trial and error, as a form of the game world that is not well understood, refers to the failure of level games many times, and then accumulates the experience of these failures. I think as a developer, it is very important to undergo repeated testing to improve the integrity and security of the game, as well as to enhance the testing ability of developers.
10. The Art of Game Design, 2nd Edition, September 2015, By Jesse Schell Chapter 12 Game Mechanics Support Puzzles
In this article, the author mainly introduces puzzles and 10 principles for solving puzzles. Firstly, the author refers to the puzzle as an "interesting question". Chris Crawford once said, "A jigsaw puzzle does not feel like a game, nor does a cross puzzle." The author compares the examples of "7th Guest" and "Zelda" and analyzes the puzzles involved. I believe that puzzles are obstacles and adventures for players to achieve success, and solving them is the ultimate goal of the task, allowing players to gain full confidence and pride. Give three examples of 10 goals, 1Make the Goal Easily Underwood The puzzles should not be too complex. Many designers want to design many puzzles for players, but the difficulty is increasing, which may make most players lose interest. 2. Make It Easy to Get Started For beginners, the design of the first part must be simple and easy to understand, making it easier for players to use these tools to control. 3: The author of Give a Sense of Progress uses Twenty Questions to reflect the player's sense of progress. This is a game that transforms players from beginners to experts. The game is presented in a question-and-answer format, making players feel that progress is fast, so the feeling of progress is very important.

Didn’t know if you’d receive the messages if I left them in my Notes, so I thought I’d post them here also.

I don’t know what you expect from me. I have said repeatedly that I do not understand what you want me to do or where to go. Because your plans are not clear to me I make my own plans, which I then shove to the side when I receive messages which I do try to follow. Then, inevitably after getting 3-7 steps into following directions I misunderstand or don’t receive the last crucial instructions, and I’m left not having accomplished your plans or my plans… this makes it very difficult to progress and has kept me in a position wherein I just disappoint everybody. If you want me to do a task or learn a lesson i will do as you so desire, but I am politely asking that it be made clear as to what I am to be doing or learning, else we waste what precious little time we have left.
——————————————————————
1/16/23
I don’t know where to go and so I pray that I will be given direction in time to save her. Please, Lord, I absolutely do not want to be L8N8 anymore. I wish to finally be a hero and not a disappointment. Thank you, and please forgive me for asking so much, also I sincerely apologize for my awkwardness as I am so unused to praying and I have been so secluded that I tend to ramble. Sorry. Amen.

So the plan as it stands now, is that at 09:00 tomorrow, the pastor will help, by the grace of the Holy Spirit, to guide me through an understanding of the scripture, so that I may become a shining example of unconditional love in HIS image. Please, 424, be strong and hold on just a little longer, and I will be there for you. Please, God, my Lord Jesus, and all the angels and saints watch over her and comfort her in our time of need I pray.

Just so you know my plan,I’m headed to the pastor for a blessing and then I’m going to get 424 back, but I still don’t know where to go to get her.

My dearest beloved {424574514},
Do you ever plan to return to my side?
It feels like it would be the only thing that would make it worthwhile to have endured all this pain and torment. In truth, if I knew that our reunion was to be the surprise at the bottom of the box I would be willing to take any amount of this - bring it on.
------------------------------------------
I have told you that wherever you go or whomever you are with, I will be waiting for you always. In my dreams, we are together again (perhaps this is why I have been avoiding sleep, not for the dreams, but for the sadness that immediately pours into me upon waking and the realization that my elation was as ephemeral as the gossamer kiss of the wind for I am alone and the feeling of missing you drums in my chest with every unrequited beat of my heart.
------------------------------------------
If you have found another who attends to your happiness and with whom you have a strong connection then for the both of you I sincerely wish naught but a future of symbiotic serenity and love. In this scenario, I would prefer to be one whom you hold still as lifelong friend and confidant perhaps someday I may in time find a partner as well and we could be one of those sitcom-style neighbors or travelling companions (at least consider it as an option). I realize that realistically your husband may not feel as comfortable with my persistence in your life, as many men would certainly feel the same, but I would never bear intent to disrupt the joy in unity which you had found.
------------------------------------------
I suppose this is quite confusing to follow as I have presenting several options here. What you may not understand is that without knowing your fate, and instead being told like 50 different versions of what has transpired here (each with their own spin of your involvement and of what the fates have spun for you since we parted); I have had no other option but to review each option as a potential reality. I have been doing my best to try to divine which is the actual truth, but in the process I’ve been bound to simultaneously pursuing evidence for each possible outcome, and then my stupid and naive heart fueled with my personal flavor of supercharged-hope does what it always does, spinning each scenario into my own romanticized version wherein I twist the storyline into one with a happy ending (for all usually). But, if you are keeping score, now I’m trying to sort 100 different potential storylines to see what has happened. This has proven impossible for me to accomplish. And, without knowing, it has became a very unhealthy and confusing burden on me.
------------------------------------------
I want to be strong for you, and I will for as long as you need me to be; but when everything I see or hear seems to indicate that you possibly never cared for me in the first place and this was all just some long scam to prove how shitty of a person I am (and that you are out exploring the world and living out all your… and apparently also my… dreams and fantasies). If that is the case then I am truly glad for you (and rather jealous), but I really only have ever wanted you to get the chance to have life finally pay you a good slice of the euphoria and bliss that has been owed to you for so long now overdue.
------------------------------------------
And to be honest, it would be okay with me if your answer was simply no, you aren’t coming back to me — I guess I never understood why a girl like you would ever want to be with a guy like me… it makes sense that there was some arrangement (I’m still not sure if you were paid to be or if it was some sort of traveling pants sisterhood of solidarity type thing). But, if this is to be the end result… please, please my baby just have enough compassion for me (or if not, then perhaps pity) to release me from this purgatory where I linger in the in-between.
------------------------------------------
I guess what this all boils down to is I am asking you to do one small thing for a person who would give you the world if you asked it. All I am asking of you is to have enough respect for the person you castaway, to tell me honestly what your intentions are. I will do my best to be understanding and supportive of your decision, whatever it may be (as I think I have shown). It doesn’t have to be a long talk, if you would like it could be just a single sentence; as a warning, I am likely to cry at some point regardless of your inclination, but I must insist that it be verbally said, as I do not trust text messages to be true. Please call me with your answer. Love you, my lady.

A black SUV with dark window tint just revved its engine to “growl” at me as he passed right before an intersection. Obviously paying more attention to me, did not notice the light had changed, so it had to run a red light at the major 4-way intersection in town. Nice work and well played, I must say!

It was a real-life fairytale ... Yet I couldn't sleep. I lost weight, my appetite, my self-worth. There's so much I still don't understand. I feel ashamed I haven't moved on... I tell myself what happened wasn't that bad, that maybe I'm rewriting history. I remind myself how much I started to want it, him. That I spent a year and a half of my life convinced I was in love with him.
When I sat at my desk, he was lying under it. I was wearing a dress and crossed my legs on instinct. He asked about my brother, were we close? He thinks I'm kind of a loser. The movie star was incredulous: but your older sister can teach you so much! He had one, an almost equally famous one, who had once imparted a valuable lesson: he was bragging to a friend about a girl going down on him, and his sister pulled him aside, demanding to know whether he'd returned the favor. When he confirmed he hadn't, she lectured him, insisting that you always reciprocate when someone does that for you. See? You can learn a lot from your big sister.
A couple months later, she had tea with an acquaintance who knew the movie star's publicist. This person spilled:  "Apparently, he falls in love with these young interns and PAs on sight, pursues them obsessively, and then has some sort of freak out a month in and disappears." X
I would recommend reading the full article, but the was definitely about Jake Gyllenhall. He seems to have a type...

the issue ultimately posed in "The Diplomat's Son" is not whether Jason did or did not push Felipe Garzonas or whether it would have been justified if he had (or rather...it is a question, but it's not the most important issue). The issue deemed more important to highlight is that Bruce questioned whether Garzonas fell or was pushed and doubted Jason's word when Jason said he fell. Any discussion of Jason's "temperment" or "anger issues" and whether he feels justified in taking that anger out on the criminals he fights is secondary to that point.
The entire issue is very careful to paint Bruce as sympathetic to and understanding of Jason's anger and frustration over their inability to actually hold Felipe accountable for his repeated abhorrent behavior in the face of his diplomatic immunity. The fact that Jason is impulsive and angry over the situation isn't framed as "this is something inherent to Jason's personality" but a specific emotional response he's having to an incredibly fucked-up situation:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"You've apparently become too emotionally involved in this case, Jason." -Batman #424
There's also an element of "he's young, but he'll learn in time" implied in Bruce's thought boxes:
Tumblr media
"Over the next three days, we have a dozen opportunities to bust Felippe Holding. But we hold off. I want to take out a part of the senior Garzonas' operation when Felipe takes his fall. Jason doesn't like this idea. He hasn't yet learned that ninety percent of crime-fighting is waiting." -Batman #424
Bruce's pointed question at the end ("did he fall...or was he pushed?") in response to Jason's initial refusal to explain what happened is framed as a double point: we as readers are asked to consider the implications of what Jason did or didn't do...but we're also asked to consider the implications of Bruce even thinking that Jason might have pushed him:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Bruce's immediate conclusion to Jason's refusal to answer a question is to ask if Jason killed him, and then look distrustfully at him as he grapples off? And that's the last panel? It's not just about what Jason did or didn't do here, but about Bruce's reaction.
The fact that the immediate follow-up to the story (Garzonas's father attempting to get revenge on Bruce and specifically Jason for his son's death) retells this story fairly sympathetically, highlighting Jason's inability to "deal with the injustice of the situation," just hammers this point home, especially considering that Bruce thinks there's a solid possibility his 15-year-old son just killed a man:
Tumblr media
"Knowing Felipe was going to take another crack at her, Gloria Stanson opted for a foolish and very permanent way out. This set Jason off. He just couldn't deal with the injustice of the situation." -Batman #425
But Bruce's doubt of Jason's word permeates #425 (in fact, the panel directly after this highlights Bruce's distrust of Jason as his partner and his decision to unofficially bench him), and his "teaching moment" at the end is the punctuation mark:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
"His name was Jose Garzonas. He was Felipe's father, Robin. For every action in this universe, there is an equal and opposite reaction. Consequences, Robin. There's no escaping them." -Batman #425
#424 and #425 are often pointed to as Starlin's attempt to provide some sort of narrative justification for Jason's death. But the issues' treatment of Jason doesn't seem to really support that. Bruce is generally sympathetic to how Jason feels about the Felipe situation, Jason's anger is specifically noted to be at the "injustice of the situation" and his frustration over his helplessness and inability to save Gloria, and Jason seems to learn whatever lesson Bruce is trying to impart on him about "the consequences of his actions" in the closing pages of #425. Bruce's issues with Jason's hypothetical actions and the fact that he continues to doubt Jason's word is more important for the narrative to deal with than any actual issues Jason might be having.
Of course, this gets turned around in Death in the Family to focus on "how oddly" Jason's been acting as of late and Bruce+Alfred ultimately connecting this to Jason's unresolved grief over the death of his parents, but it is notable that even here, they note that this anger and recklessness is odd for Jason. In other words, it's not how he normally acts:
Tumblr media
"Robin-Jason Todd-had been acting oddly of late. Very moody. Resentful. Reckless......I toss him to Robin. Let the boy finish him off. He obviously has a dangerously high level of aggressive energy to work off." -Batman #426
And Bruce and Alfred specifically trace this uncharacteristic anger and recklessness to Jason's unresolved grief and issues over his parents' deaths. It's why Bruce takes Jason off active duty in the first place; not because he's worried that Jason is a danger to other people, but because he's worried Jason is a danger to himself:
Tumblr media
"The kid's losing it. He dived into those thugs like someone looking to die." -Batman #426 (Death in the Family: Part 1)
Later attempts in the 90s and early 2000s to victim-blame Jason for his own death and call him a "bad Robin" with anger and impulsivity issues largely contradict both the issues leading up to his death and the actual story in which he dies. Ultimately, "The Diplomat's Son" and its follow-up are more concerned with Bruce's doubt over Jason's place at his side as his partner than whether Jason himself is suited for heroing, and "A Death in the Family" is more concerned with Jason's unresolved familial trauma and how those resurfaced issues specifically cause him to act so oddly that Bruce benches him for his own safety.
tl;dr: Jason wasn't a bad Robin and he didn't have anger issues. He was a 15-year-old kid who was a) immensely frustrated and angry after watching a traumatized woman hang herself while her abuser walked free and then b) upset over his unresolved issues regarding his parents' deaths (especially after realizing that Catherine Todd wasn't his bio mom and that he still might have a living mother). Bruce doubting Jason's word and yet still seeing the outcome as a teachable moment is the more important point of Jason's final story, not painting Jason as being angry and impulsive in an effort to narratively justify his upcoming death.

What can you tell us a little on Atlantis or the history of it, Shaska?
Tumblr media
"There is quite a bit that can be shared, I'd be happy to do so. But most of it shouldn't be replicated or shared too deeply." Such as the dangers such an ancient technology posed, right down to a point that some may call it magic. With how Atlantis had used crystals and song to resonate and control, for power sources, and the like. But she could at least give a gentle history lesson.
"Long ago, there were many ancient civilizations of which eventually fell into obscurity or simply collapsed. Many have been found and studied extensively! However, that of Atlantis has mostly stayed in Obscurity, especially with the age of such an ancient place, and how we only have texts and rough translations or references of that place from other bright minds of the ancient ages. Even by then, Atlantis had been aged. In fact, Atlantis has been called 'Antediluvian' which essentially means that it is a civilization that existed before most other designations of writing, out right older than the great flood of biblical telling. Which is fitting considering how it sank beneath the ocean!"
Shaska's eyes brightened considerably, speaking of anything to do with science or archaeology. Subjects she was good at and excited for. If it wasn't working in a lab or on robotics, then it was something like this. "Many texts described Atlantis as a highly advanced city with it's people living very long lives. Longer than anyone else. The place had electricity most believed to be magic, referencing what they called 'Power Of The Gods', 'Crossroads Touched', or 'Gems Of The Unseen One', things like that. However in reality, they were using crystals much the same way that we in this age use computer chips, gold, crystalline fragmentation. The ancients had figured out technology long before anyone else! The only other civilization to come close could be compared to the Greeks or Egyptians. In the Mediterranean at least."
One hand lifted to tap at her chin a moment. "Even Plato of the Greeks had written about Atlantis. Plato, whom existed at around Circa 424 to 328 B.C, describes Atlantis as a powerful and advanced kingdom that sank, in a night and a day, beneath the waves, at around 9,600 B.C. Several thousand years difference. And in fact even across the ocean in South America, there were references of Atlantis around the same time, but only legends. Which suggests it might not have all been fantasy, but some sort of grain of truth in it all. My family believed this and took many decades and generations to put the clues together, and discover their scientific advancements on their own. In fact, the armor I wear and the power sources it uses are Atlantian." The woman lifts one arm, showing her fore arm armor. "And the green liquid within is from Atlantian's remaining translations of medical knowledge. Fascinating stuff... Never perfected however." Her arm lowered them, both hands now resting at the woman's hips.
"There are many clues, some of which Plato used that had left many historians in awe. Always debating if Atlantis ever actually existed or if it was all just fantasy, or even a reference unto the folly of man and humanity's hubris. Through the character Critias in Plato's writing, Atlantis is described as an island, larger than Libya, and Asia Minor, located in the Atlantic just beyond the Pillars of Hercules. This suggests it is probably just outside of the strait that made up the entry way of the Mediterranean, and thus suggesting that the entire island sank somewhere along the Mariana trench, or even closer inland than that! Hell, some believe that while the Sahara desert had been plentiful and green, not dry, Atlantis had been a major location within it. At a place known as 'The Eye Of The Sahara'. It shows signs of something being there, and having once suffered a great flood or tsunami. Ancient maps also label Atlantis like locations at the edge of the continent. Thus suggesting something happened to drag an entire city and land chunk straight off the earth and pulled into the ocean."
"I apologize for rambling, but these are just various colorful legends that I can share off the top of my head. The reality is, that Atlantis was a very real place, and their advancements are what kept this world safe long ago, until war with a higher power, that they used to protect earth, both destroyed themselves and their enemies... And that is all I can share, for it is not wise nor safe to share the true locations or weaponry discoveries."

September 1998
It had been 5 months since the Good Friday Agreement was voted on. James still didn't know why there were tiny brides at Erin and Orla's joint 18th birthday but he's since chosen not to question it.
Clare had already headed off to university, James promising to see her in a week's time when he arrived. Clare would be going to university in London to both no one and everyone's surprise.
James would be leaving Derry next week, to do his undergraduate in history (his filmmaking taking a backseat).
Orla had decided not to go to university, as her step aerobics teacher had promised to give her lessons on teaching.
With Michelle's still working with Dennis at the wee shop.
But today, Erin would be heading to Liverpool with Mary and Gerry to get settled in. Granda Joe would be watching Anna as the parents took their firstborn wain to university.
Tears had already been shed.
Stood on the street as Gerry and Mary sorted out the last of Erin's bags and boxes, were: James, Orla, Michelle and Erin.
They shared a massive group hug, with James' hand resting on the nape of Erin's neck.
Pulling away, there were tears already streaming down Orla's face, as well as Michelle's. James currently only just managed to hold it in.
"Orla," Erin mutters, reaching her hand to wipe away the tears rolling down her cousin's face.
Orla swatted away at Erin's hands, as she slowly composed herself.
Michelle had slowly come to terms with the idea of her boke of an English cousin and one of her oldest friends getting together - but it would still make her boke if they actually did.
James reached over and tightly hugged Erin. "Clare and I are only 3 hours away," James told her, having looked it up on the computer. "Or I'll pay the expensive phone bill whenever we ring," he promises.
"If I'm comin' over to see you as often as you're offerin', ye'll be bokin' at the sight of me," Erin tells him.
James chuckles. "I could never be sick of seeing you, Erin," he states. "I can wait," he reminds her.
Michelle tightly wrapped Erin in a hug, making the blonde swear she wouldn't go riding any English fellas, to which she swore with a silent chuckle with James.
"See ye at Christmas, Erin," Orla said, tightly squeezing her cousin.
"Halloween, Orla. We're going down to London to see Clare," Erin reminded her having put it on the calendar under mammy's nose in August.

Perhaps I’m late picking up on something that’s completely obvious but...I just realized while preparing my lesson for my sections today that the Mytilenean debate (in which the Athenian assembly voted to execute all the men in Mytilene and enslave all the women and children, then changed their minds a day later) occurred in 427 BCE and that gives a really pointed resonance to Euripides’ Hecuba, which was performed only three years later in 424 and features Odysseus telling Hecuba more-or-less that the war crime of sacrificing her daughter in honor of Achilles was decreed by democratic process so he can’t do anything to stop it
