Hi, I love your analyses on daemons! They are incredible! I was wondering what type of daemon would you recommend for someone who is introverted, but is anxious, a worrying type of person but that is determined sometimes, also Likes to plan, but is flexible. ? For daemon size, medium to small size preferably.
hey, i am incredibly sorry (to you and everyone else waiting) for the delay! i’ve been mobbed with work at the end of the semester and that plus a bad bout of mental health has made it difficult to focus on things that aren’t mandatory by my job LOL
small to medium size! let us see here. there’s going to be a bit of a range in these and i’ve done my best to provide essential traits not included in your original ask that you would need to embody this animal; i’m more than happy to refine my suggestions if you’d like to send a follow-up as well!
my first suggestion must be the hedgehog. the hedgehog is going to be someone introverted yet go-with-the-flow; they’re flexible people who can find their home anywhere, so long as they have a sense of home. they’re sensitive people who like to stay busy, very prone to anxiety, self-doubt, etc. these individuals don’t want to kick up a fuss and are probably doormat-ish, and do best when they’re in their own heads working on their own plans and goals. another thought in that same order may be the common shrew, but it’s much more boundary-keeping and less tolerant of unpleasant social situations than the hedgehog, can absolutely be temperamental and defensive. just by the nature of the shrew i would expect this defensiveness to come more from a place of stress and anxiety than actual posturing. they’re extremely adaptable and flexible though, especially when allowed to plan ahead.
next i think there are quite a few lesser-known marsupials that could fit you as well! the pygmy possum, ringtail possum, and dunnart were high on my list. the triok and kowari crossed my mind but ultimately i think both of those may be too specialized and not flexible enough. the pygmy possum is absolutely an anxious and sensitive person who also likes to keep busy (mentally or physically) like the hedgehog; they’re very go-with-the-flow as well, and marked by an extreme alertness to their environment. i would characterize this in the human as being someone who’s constantly taking social temperatures and gets anxious when a friend uses a period in a text. they need to plan ahead and are perfectionists in their work. the ringtail possum is going to be a little more specialized in that they have things they know they like and feel most at home in a niche, but are willing to be flexible if necessary. very willing to adapt, close with their loved ones but not a fan of strangers, anxious but vocal and expressive about it, and boundary-keeping and can be defensive around strangers. then the dunnart is the absolute pro at planning ahead, routine-oriented but quick-thinking and willing to adapt, very shy and introverted and has a private life separate from loved ones (which would also be characteristic of the pygmy possum but not the ringtail), and importantly they’re still anxious but ultimately hardy people who are proactive about finding solutions and getting through things.
also a nine-banded armadillo! i would define this species as one of the more flexible of the armadillos, who are a pretty specialized species in general (just seeing how well equipped they are for an insect diet, but they do eat a small bit of plants), but the nine-banded armadillo is very widespread and adaptable to different biomes. while they are habitual people who prefer to plan ahead, they can be flexible and adaptable if need be. honestly very similar to the hedgehog in terms of their passivity and sensitivity, but a key difference is the armadillo is going to be more socially tolerant and be less stressed/drained by social situations, and also have more of an emphasis on personal freedom and their own space.
and lastly, maybe look into some species of frog! just off the cuff i was thinking maybe a wood frog, spadefoot toad, spring peeper, or the common frog. all of these frog species are going to be sensitive and routine-oriented, yet quite resilient and flexible when the going gets tough. an important fact is that frog souls are going to have a degree of competitiveness and opportunism, even though they’re mostly shy, unobtrusive, and patient people. i would consider the wood frog as highly adaptable and self-preserving, the spadefoot toad as more reclusive and stressed easily, the spring peeper as more determined and wanting to impress, and the common frog as adaptable and patient... though these are just initial impressions.
willing to go a bit larger? i’d also suggest looking into deer species like the mule deer, brocket deer, or pudu.
