The day before Christmas Eve, with the help of many, I met a new lesbian friend off of TikTok. She needed a new car battery and I know how to change a battery and found out she was only an hour away! Got to meet an elder and break out my tools and get her some much needed supplies! My community, on and off line, is nothing short of incredible. New battery installation complete!!

here's some doodles i did of my character xadirith! managed to figure out her shapes and vibes. definitely leaning more into the tyrannosaur vibes with her face... she has such intense expressions but it doesn't reflect her personality. xadirith is very benevolent and curious!

our therapist is 72 years old (maybe 73? i feel awful i forget) and she's a lesbian!! it's so interesting to hear how different things were for her and how different the language she uses is - her partner came out as trans after they had been together for a while and he's fine with her using the term lesbian despite him being a trans man. her love for him is larger than her attachment to her label but she still feels like she's a lesbian

she considers herself "a butch if one was too lazy to keep up the appearance" (short hair but not overly masc clothes or anything else) and when she went to a conference for queer women in the psychology field she got her hair cut again to, in her words, "get all (d-slur)'d up for the occasion" she only just learned what the terms AFAB and AMAB are, and thinks neopronouns are cool as hell. she was surprised to hear that younger queers use the term queer so openly. she's so fucking cool

holy SHIT she's awesome, i'm so glad she's accepting of neopronouns that's so badass. and i agree with her, it's been awesome to see young folks adopting the identity queer with pride. LGBT is a fine identifier for many, but reclaiming queer has so much power behind it. i'm really glad you have hr in your life! she sounds fucking awesome

the implications of crowfeather repeatedly rewriting the series he's in to own lesbians is funny but im still on the lesbian w comphet leafpool train at least. lesbianism can prevail anywhere regardless. and on that personally i believe that lesbian or not, every girl that falls for crowfeather doesn't really like crowfeather himself but rather an idealised version of him in their head that can present them with something else they want (an escape from the clans, a dedicated partner who loves them, someone they can relate to and confide in). he just got lucky enough to do that to four different women. he isnt a lady magnet for who he is but his shallow dark and brooding aura is just really easy to project shit onto and not think about when in actuality all it hides is a fairly boring and genuinely unpleasant guy

And THIS is why it is so special to be in a time where we can listen to our elders speak openly. So we better take advantage and LISTEN.

Sometimes I get comments or asks or whatever from the identity police about who can be called butch.

Well, dear sweets, firstly get to know your history, watch this video to the end, respect your elders and then digest the fact that nature is as it does. So, you staring at a natural truth, and telling it, that it's wrong, only shows something unnatural of you- work on it my babycakes.

I myself remember how butchness was well known as a spectrum of how masculinity looked on those who were not cis men. I remember how that spectrum included butches who would further their masculinity/Adorn their masculinity with hormones/surger(ies), I remember how butcheness extended to those who were queer but not lesbian, and their role within the butch world was never questioned or even pondered at. Because to be seen in the world as butch, is a very specific thing, with specific ostrasisations, and specific ways to understand what gender is and specific ways of being made to feel ugly for not adhering to the way the west pictures women. To be butch is a very specific feeling starting in our earliest memories for most of us we have that feeling before we even develop sexual desire, because its entirely its own thing, and it creates a very specific bond. A bond of butchhood.

I was very young when witnessing just a little of this time period, the solidarity within it still was strong enough to hit me and captivate me. It's been sad to see just how much of that has changed into a relentless need for over specification, dissecting the community left right and centre, policing eachother. Do we not remember the enchanted connection of anti police anti state moral with queerness? Please let us do better, please let us help one another do better.
