im obsessed OBSESSED with adult cosette recognizing eponine. the expression on her face when marius mentions her name and she sees eponine in front of her and then the moment of realization!!! and the way eponine looks at her in acknowledgement of cosette's realisation!!! they know each other, they were children together!!! it's such a small but yet poignant detail god i literally cannot stop thinking about it, thank you lily kerhoas and shan ako for including it in the show!!!

MB RANTS # 10

As much as I love his role as Javert in the 2019 staged concert of Les Mis, I just couldn't take him seriously because he's just like an angry teddy bear with dimples pursuing Jean Valjean. Not until the robbery scene and he showed up to intervene. And I was like, "Yeah, he's Javert and Marius no more."

And his take of Javert's suicide scene just blown me away. Wow, this guy never stops to surprise me.

I'd love to see either Valjean and I'd love to see Bradley Jaden but I don't particularly want to see Michael Ball 💀

Like nothing against him I just personally don't like him as Javert

I love Les Miserables staged concerts. I grew up with the Red Company version and 10th anniversary, with Colm Wilkinson as Valjean.

He starred in the movie Les Miserables as the priest, which is brilliant.

Currently watching/listening to the 2019 staged concert with Alfie Boe, and always good.

In April 2024, mom and I went to a concert.

Honestly, I don't know why I love Les Miserables. Loved it since a young kid who would ask to play the cassettes in the car (yes, before cars can play CDs they can play music cassette tapes).

That said, never read the book and I may not; it's huge

Alfonso Casado Trigo got well-deserved entrance applause at the top of both acts, as did Matt Lucas during first entrance. Matt also loses his wig during Beggars At The Feast, and the entire scene derails from there with Rob being the only person on stage (and in the whole building!) to keep it together, and the bows have been kept in and as Michael then snatched his wig, much to the delight of the audience. Showstopping performance from Alfie Boe, and wonderful performances from Rob Houchen, Bradley Jaden, Katy Secombe, Matt Lucas, Earl Carpenter and the ensemble.

I don't think anyone else finds this as fascinating as I do but I got the Les Mis staged concert album (the 2019 version) and these were the images on the CDs:

The first CD of (most of the) Act 1 songs shows the students at the barricade...seconds before they all start dying. I went back to double check and literally right after the lights start going off, Grantaire picks up Gavroche (representing his death). I get the choice to show the barricade boys but I would have thought they'd choose a different (act 1) scene of them...The lighting was pretty good though, and they were all perfectly lined up so maybe that was why. The second CD shows the lights, which I think is either from the beginning of the show or right before the Final Battle. I don't remember a focus on the lights at any other time, but I might be mistaken. I would have assumed they'd use a shot from One Day More or maybe Valjean or Javert for the design--something more character focused. Anyways yeah I just thought it was interesting 👍

“In My Life” and “A Heart Full of Love,” Staged Concert, 2019. Lily Kerhoas as Cosette, John Owen-Jones as Jean Valjean, Rob Houchen as Marius, Shan Ako as Éponine.

Lily’s voice is crystalline, sweet, gentle without being wispy, girlish yet never insipid, and effortless on the high notes. With the Staged Concert’s filmed performance commercially available, I’m sure she’ll take her place as many fans’ favorite Cosette.

With all due respect to Alfie Boe, I wish John Owen-Jones had been the Valjean featured in the filmed concert. We already had Alfie’s Valjean in the 25AC, and John’s 20-year relationship with the role has let him hone it to perfection.

Rob’s Marius strikes the perfect balance between boyish charm and refinement, while Shan is a warm, rich-voiced Éponine.

Well done by all.

the best thing about the 2019 staged concert is that i see a red waist coat and tie and assume that’s enjolras so in master of the house i full assume the guy in the middle background is enjolras (even though i don’t even think his actor is on stage) and assume that how enjorlas acts when drunk
