Killian Jones was new to Storybrooke High School and Merlin was concerned.
He had recently moved from England to live with his brother. The town of Storybrooke had warmly welcomed Liam Jones a few months back, as he found a place by the docks, a job at the sheriff’s department and began to make friends and connections. They would do the same for his younger brother, that was the way of the small town.
Miss Mills spoke of Killian’s quiet intelligence in Science, Miss Bell spoke of his quiet excitement for Arts and Mr. Dakkar spoke of his quiet concentration in History. Emphasis on quiet.
“He knows the answer, I can see it in his eyes, but he doesn’t raise his hand,” Regina would complain. “I really don’t want to fail him for poor class participation.”
“You should see the way his hands just fly off the paper during a project,” Tina would dreamily recount, her eyes bright and smile ever-present. “And I can see where he’s taking this project, can see the final lines but,” Then she would sigh and her smile would drop, her eyes sad. “he never hands it in. I can’t grade him on something I don’t have.”
“I feel for those boys, Merlin,” Nemo would tell him, with compassionate eyes on the window outside. “Liam has been doing such a great job in making a life for himself and taking care of his brother on top of that. Killian is such a bright soul, you can tell he wants to learn, wants to do more but he’s afraid.” Nemo’s sigh was weary and sad, his desire to help the young boy clear in his eyes. “How is he in your class?”
More of the same, if Merlin was honest. He could tell Killian loved to read, had already read most of the books they talked about, but seemed more than happy to re-read them. Like in Regina’s classes, Merlin could see the desire to answer in his eyes, could see the disappointment in them when someone gave the wrong answer, could see his pride when one of his classmates got the answer right. Killian Jones wanted to learn, he wanted to do more.
When nothing improved a couple of months into the school year, Merlin decided to take matters into his own hands, in any way possible.
Maybe he just needed the right push.
Emma Nolan was Storybrooke’s sweetheart.
Daughter of the beloved sheriff and the esteemed Mayor, everyone knew her and had seen her grow up. She was confident, kind and hardworking. Her name was spoken often in praise in the faculty room, even when she almost blew up the science room in her haste to finish a project.
Maybe…
It would require cunning, cleverness. He would have to develop a foolproof plan. He looked at the seating chart, memorized it, and strategized. He was meticulous. He…
Well… he got rid of a desk.
Thankfully, Leroy didn’t ask many questions. He just grumbled the usual amount when Merlin asked him to help him move the desk to the faculty room - Mr. Hopper would appreciate the extra space for his files.
Now, he just needed the puzzle pieces to fall in their respective places.
As always, Killian entered the room first, his quiet footsteps almost inaudible as Merlin wrote the theme on the board. When he turned, he had sat down on the last table of the middle row, as usual. Most of the others had filled out the seats out front.
A minute before the bell, Belle French entered the room along with the others and sat along on one of the few free desks. Merlin had wondered if the clever book lover would have been a better match for Killian but he knew that what he needed was extrovertedness. However…
Predictably, Emma and Ruby Lucas were the last to arrive. Laughing and chatting as usual, they stopped when they noticed the lack of a free desk where they could sit together.
“Mr. Emrys, what happened to the desk that was here?” Emma asked with a frown.
“Yeah, where are we supposed to sit?” Ruby followed.
Fighting back a victorious grin, Merlin turned to them. “Oh, I’m afraid the desk got broken,” He saw Emma’s eyebrow rise as she looked at him and he wondered if she, somehow, knew. “But there are still available seats.”
Merlin looked around, as if he hadn’t memorized where everyone was known to sit. He first pointed to where Belle sat alone. “Ruby, you can sit with Belle, and Emma,” He then pointed to where Killian was decidedly avoiding eye contact. “you can sit with Killian.”
Maybe it’s not exactly responsible or ethical but he gives his students a written assignment, mainly so he can sit behind his desk and covertly observe his genius plan in action. He watches as Killian’s eyes glance over to Emma every now and then, and how hers find him in turn. Surprisingly, he notices how Ruby’s chair is slightly but determinedly turned to face Belle. Did he…?
---
It’s not instant, of course.
But Killian begins to raise his hand in class and Merlin sees the way Emma smiles encouragingly. Killian’s gaze stops being permanently glued to his desk. He starts answering questions and there is a distinct British murmur mixing with the other familiar voices.
“He actually answered a question today,” Regina reported back a month later. “And it was correct!”
“He’s handed out his projects every class this past month,” Tina exclaimed excitedly. “Mark my words, Merlin, he’ll be an artist.”
“He’s been sitting next to Miss Swan in classes,” Nemo astutely informs him. “He’s been more talkative and even her grades have improved. Do you have any clue as to what happened?”
Merlin sips his coffee, giving himself time to hide his self-congratulatory smile. “I think Killian found the right motivation, I’m glad to see he’s improved.”
But he should know that Nemo would be impossible to illude; that man had a way to see into one’s soul. Although, he didn’t confront or chastise him. Nemo simply smiled and nodded.
Merlin watched as Killian became more participative in class and as he became more confident. He often saw them sitting together at lunch, accompanied by Ruby and eventually Belle. He was told that they also sat together in other classes and that his participation improved.
Sometimes, he would run into Liam and he would hear the pride in his voice when he spoke of how his brother was becoming more himself. How, after years of living in foster care due to the courts’ mistaken assessment of Liam’s capacity to care for him, he was turning into the man Liam had hoped he would become. He wondered if Emma had done some magic spell on the young Jones or if she had simply given Killian the opportunity to become who he was always meant to become.
Merlin had become a teacher to help improve people’s lives. He was convinced it all started with something small, the flap of a butterfly’s wing. This was the proof he had been looking for.
Graduation arrived faster than he had expected and he sat with the other teachers as his students crossed the stage to get their diplomas. He was known to tear up every time the black caps filled the sky. But who could blame him?
He got lost in the sea of students and parents as everyone congratulated one another, made plans for the summer and after. He watched as Miss Bell squeaked in happiness at Miss Rose’s ballet scholarship. As Miss Mills looked on with reluctant pride as Mr Whale bragged about his acceptance to Harvard.
And then he caught the moment Mr Dakkar embraced the youngest Jones as Liam looked on with pride. A blur of blonde hair caught his attention as Emma stopped in front of him.
“Guess what?”
His smile was involuntary and indulgent at her bright excitement. “What news do you have for me, Miss Nolan?”
“First of all, you’re not my teacher anymore so just Emma from now on.” He grinned at her sass even as his chest pained at the further realization that he wouldn’t have this blonde tornado in his classes anymore. “Second, and most important, I got accepted to the police academy!”
There was no faking his happiness at this news. He had known almost from the beginning of knowing that she wanted to follow her father’s footsteps on a larger scale. Had mentioned time and again how she wanted to find criminals, not break up bar fights. He remembered the pride rising over the fear in her parent’s eyes when she had first made her wishes known when they met. He wasn’t at all surprised that she had achieved her goal.
“That’s fantastic, Emma! You should be proud!”
Her grin shone brighter if it was even possible, a veritable sun on a cloudy day. “I am! We’re going on a roadtrip to New York over the summer so we can get to know the area and then we’re officially moving there in August.”
“We?” Merlin’s smile was confused. “Are you parents moving too?” He hadn’t heard anything about the sheriff resigning.
“Oh, no.” There was a visible red glow to Emma’s cheeks as she looked away for a moment. “Killian got into college there too, we’re…uh, going to share an apartment.”
Merlin grinned widely and tried to contain his glee. “That’s very smart of you two, saving expenses and keeping something familiar in an unfamiliar world.”
Emma stammered but Merlin pretended not to hear it. “Exactly, that’s what I said!”
“Emma!”
Mary Margaret Nolan’s voice broke their conversation as they turned to where the Mayor stood next to David Nolan and the Joneses. They waved her over with happy smiles.
“Right,” Emma waved back before turning back to him, her expression back to normal. “We’re all going to Granny’s to celebrate but we’ll see you around town this summer, right?”
“Of course!”
“See you, Mr. Emrys.”
Merlin watched as Emma joined the group and he waved as they all left together, lost in conversation. From the corner of his eye, he saw Nemo approaching.
“Looks like your plan worked.” He smirked at his friend without turning his head. “I don’t know what you’re insinuating, Nemo.”
Nemo chuckled with his arms crossed at his chest. “He’s like a new person, Merlin, so confident and expressive. Whatever magic you did, it worked.”
Merlin turned to Nemo and placed a hand on his shoulder. “All he needed was the opportunity, it was all already there.”
Nemo nodded, his eyes shining with pride. “I’m eager to see what will happen next.”
“Me too, me too.”
During the summer, Merlin managed to share a meal with Emma and Killian once before he had to go to England to help a friend of his. He took note of how comfortable they were around each other and how, more often than not, they seemed to be on the same wavelength.
He may have also noticed the way Emma would look at Killian when he spoke, her perpetual smile brightening her face. Or the way Killian turned his body towards Emma when she spoke, nodding his head in agreement. Their future looked bright.
---
8 Years Later
Another year, another graduation.
His tears darkened the fabric of his suit but Merlin didn’t care. He didn’t think he would ever stop getting emotional whenever he clapped as loud as he could for the latest batch of graduates.
The usual wave of congratulations and pride flooded him as he observed the crowd. Parents, family and teachers all together to celebrate their achievements.
“Mr. Emrys!”
He turned at the call of his name to see a tall dark-haired man holding a blonde woman’s hand approaching him. It was almost shameful how long it took him to recognise them - no more gangly limbs and shy countenance, no more ponytails and round face.
“Emma! Killian!” Merlin grinned happily, holding out his arms to accept their greeting hugs. “I’m so glad to see you here!”
“Well,” Emma grinned. “My little brother is graduating, of course I was going to be here!”
“What she’s not telling you is that she was hoping he would fall or trip on stage so she could record it-” Killian was interrupted by a half-hearted smack to his arm by an eye-rolling Emma.
“Whatever, he knows I’m proud of him.”
“And I see you two have grown up,” Merlin gestures towards them, noting their joined hands. “How has New York been treating you?”
“It’s been…” There was no disguising the contented smile on Emma's face. “Great. I made detective.”
“That’s fantastic!”
“Brightest detective in New York City.” The pride in Killian’s face was blinding and Emma’s face grew redder.
“And Killian just made partner!” Her rushed tone didn’t hide the pride in her voice.
It was the younger Jones’ turn to be bashful.
“What sort of firm?” Merlin asked.
“Nautical engineering, it’s really no big deal.” Killian explained as he scratched behind his ear.
“Right, he always says that but you should see the ships they design.”
“Emma…”
Merlin’s cheeks hurt from the wide smile on his face. “I’m very happy to hear that!”
They shared a smile and then what looked like a silent conversation before Killian nodded and wrapped his arm around her waist. “Actually, Mr. Emrys,” Emma started, licking her lips nervously. “We were hoping to ask you something.”
Merlin nodded promptly. “Anything.”
“Well,” Killian cleared his throat and pulled her that little bit closer to him. “There was another reason we are in Storybrooke this summer.”
“We’re getting married.” Emma finished with a smile.
Merlin thought he wouldn’t be surprised. He knew it was bound to happen - had heard from Liam how well his brother was adjusting to New York and how Emma had been a big reason for it, had seen a million pictures of the couple from Mary Margaret to have deduced their closer connection and had seen David sharing a drink with a nervous Killian at Granny’s a few months ago.
He thought he wouldn’t be surprised but the gasp still escaped his lips. “When? Where?”
Emma laughed. “We, hmm, we wanted to give you the invitation personally.” She evaded the questions as Killian took an envelope from his coat pocket and handed it to him.
“It’s going to be a small affair,” Killian explained as Merlin opened the envelope and read the thick paper invitation inside. “Just family and close friends.”
“We know it’s in short notice,” Emma was right, the ceremony would be in a couple of days. “but we wanted to invite you in person because, well…”
It wasn’t often he saw Emma Nolan nervous. She had always been confident and sure but he guessed this was different from answering a wrong question in Math class.
“We heard that you officiated your friends’ wedding in England,'' Killian continued and Merlin could feel tears come up in his eyes. “So we were hoping you would officiate ours.”
Their smiles were hopeful and nervous and Merlin knew his answer even before they actually asked. “But me? W-Why?”
The couple shared a smile. “You brought us together, Mr. Emrys.” Killian shrugged.
“What?”
“Maybe that wasn’t your intention,” Emma explained. “But you sat us together. You knew that we would help each other and maybe you didn’t plan for us to move to New York together or get closer but,” She shrugged with a smile. “That’s what happened.”
“And we knew we wanted you to be a part of our special day,” Killian continued. “We probably wouldn’t be here today if not for you.”
“What do you say, Mr. Emrys?”
“I say,” Merlin tried to contain his emotions but really, it had been an emotional day already. “That if I’m going to pronounce you husband and wife, you have to start calling me Merlin.”
An emotional day, indeed. They teared up as they hugged each other. They didn’t give him too much notice but had he made any plans, he would gladly cancel. Luckily, he already had a suit.
---
Despite his secondary role in the ceremony, Merlin had the best seat in the place.
From where he stood, he could see every happy face in the crowd - some faces he recognised from town, others, he learned, had traveled from New York to watch their friends get married. He could see the beautiful turquoise decoration on the chairs and corsages. The happy tears in Mary Margaret’s face as she sat in the front row.
Apparently appointed as a tissue assistant, Belle sat next to the Mayor, her gold wedding band shining in the summer sun. Ruby stood to his left side, excited to perform her duties as maid of honor, her matching gold band complimenting her turquoise dress. He had heard from the titular Granny of how Belle and Ruby decided to elope - how they had sequestered herself and Moe French into their car under the guise of a furniture emergency and drove them to the court house. Granny tells him how she should have guessed what they would do by the fact that their children were wearing clothes that didn’t quite suit a trip to the mall.
Liam stood to his left in a matching turquoise tie, with a calm hand at Killian’s shoulder who had none of his brother’s calm. The younger Jones’ leg wouldn’t stop fidgeting and he was sure he had seen him “fix” his tie or hair at least a hundred times.
The ceremony had been set up at the lake near the Nolan’s farm. Aside from the dozen decorated white chairs, the only other piece of decoration was a flower arch happily supplied by “Game of Thorns”. Leo Nolan made his way down the aisle first, a scowl hiding his look of pride as he scattered blue and green petals on the grass. Every flick of his hand earned him a chuckle from his family and boyfriend. The wedding rings, he knew, were safely tucked into Leo’s coat pocket.
It was simple, peaceful, and beautiful. It was them.
From where he stood, Merlin watched as everyone turned to the farmhouse when the music began to play. He heard the gasp from the crowd as Emma made her way to the altar with her father by her side. He watched as Killian’s whole demeanor calmed when he set eyes on his bride and the way Belle had to replenish the tissue supply at Mary Margaret’s tears.
And Emma was a vision.
They had chosen the perfect day - the sun was bright and warm, the breeze from the covered area made the temperature bearable. The short train of the lace dress was stained brown from the walk in the forest but she didn’t seem to care. Her eyes were on Killian as she held her father’s arm with one hand and a turquoise bouquet on the other.
Later, Merlin wouldn’t be able to tell anyone what he had said - had memorized a speech full of meaningful words for the happy couple. All he remembered was the looks of love and pride and pure happiness in front of him. All he remembered was the way the two of them stuttered through their vows, words of devotion, promise and adoration. The way their hands shook as they placed the rings on their lover’s finger. The way they kissed like no one was watching under the loud whoops and clapping from the audience.
His tears weren’t only reserved for graduation day - Merlin wondered how many pictures of the ceremony had his crying face marring the background. The one he chose to frame for his living room wasn’t too bad but his red eyes went unnoticed in the face of such happy smiles.

The Once & Future Queen Pt.21
Tumblr media
Forest. Continued. (Merida releases her arrow and the deer disappears through the trees.) Merida: "Gold sovereign says she’s hit." Anastasia: "We have to go after her!” (Anastasia runs into the woods.) Merida: (Calling after Anastasia:) "Squeamish about letting the poor thing suffer are we? (Cocks another arrow:) Aye, we'll put her out of her misery." (Anastasia searches for the injured animal.) Anastasia: “Guinevere! Guinevere!” Merida: “Guinevere? You know it’s not wise to name your food, especially after fellow royalty, Your Highness.” (Ignoring this, Anastasia spots a trail of blood on the forest floor.) Anastasia: “Come on, she’s this way.” (Following the trail, they find the animal lying unconscious, shaking from cold and shock, an arrow in her leg.) Merida: (Drawing back her bow:) “It’ll all be over in a second.” Anastasia: (Falling to her knees beside the deer:) “Stop!” Merida: (Lowers her bow:) “I told you not to name it. Now out of the way so I can end Bambi’s suffering. (Anastasia waves her hand over the animal, using her magic to return Guinevere to her true form. Dropping the bow:) Oh no, not again.” (Anastasia pulls out the arrow and places her hand over the wound.) Anastasia: “What do you mean ‘again’? You’ve seen this kind of thing before?” Merida: (Grimaces:) “Once or twice, yeah. Is she-” Anastasia: “I think she’ll be okay, but we need to get her out of here, now!” Camelot. Castle Corridor. (Agravaine leads Caerleon’s soldiers down the corridors when he is intercepted by Elyan.) Sir Elyan: “This is your doing, isn’t it? Arthur’s return, his defeat. All to put Morgana back on Camelot’s throne.” Agravaine: “Oh, stand aside. There’s nothing you can do about it now.” (Elyan draws his sword.) Sir Elyan: “I can kill you for the traitor that you are.” (Agravaine draws his sword.) Agravaine: “Brave words, Elyan. And they shall be your last.” (Elyan is thrown backwards and falls to the floor unconscious. Caerleon’s soldiers step aside revealing Morgana behind them with a hand raised.) Morgana: “We don’t have time to play soldiers, Agravaine.” (Morgana marches past them and they follow.)
Tumblr media
Storybrooke. Swan-Mills House. (Entering through the front door on a mission, Emma neglects to close it behind her in her haste to climb the stairs.) Regina: (Calling out:) "Oh, Emma? (Emma pauses at the foot of the stairs, confused by where Regina could be. Glancing at the top of the stairs, she sees that Regina is no longer in the window:) I'm in here. (Walking past the staircase and into the other room, Emma leans against the door frame for support when she sees Regina laid out before her. Reclined on the sofa with her underwear swaying tantalisingly back and forth between her toes, Regina gives her wife a satisfied smile:) I thought you'd be too tired to climb all those stairs." Emma: "And you'd be right. (Stands and approaches:) But for some reason, I feel a surge of energy coming on. (Regina chuckles and with a quick flick of her leg, sends her panties flying towards Emma, who catches them neatly and stuffs them into the back pocket of her jeans:) I'll keep those for later." (Raising her legs and pointing her toes to the ceiling, Regina stretches languidly before bringing her legs down to wrap around Emma's waist. Bending over the arm of the sofa to lower herself gently down onto Regina, Emma kisses her way up the brunette's body before being pulled into a searing kiss.) Snow White: (Entering the house:) "Did you know there are garden tools strewn across the path? (Regina stiffens and wraps her legs tightly around Emma at the sound of Snow's voice. Hearing her mother's loud gasp, Emma winces and slowly turns to look over her shoulder at her:) Y-your door was..." Emma: "Open, yeah. My bad." Snow White: (Dropping her gaze to her binder:) "Hello, Regina." Regina: (Gives an amused wave:) "Hello, Snow." Snow White: (Muttering to herself:) "Why does this keep happening to me?" Emma: "Er, Mom, could you give us a minute?" Snow White: (Looks up and then straight back down, averting her eyes:) "Y-yes. I'll... wait in the kitchen." (Snow leaves and Emma slumps down onto Regina.) Regina: "I think I'll be needing my underwear back now." Storybrooke. Rollin’ Bayou. (After showing Ella how things are done, Tiana reacts to Ella’s bombshell.) Tiana: “Ella, what the hell?” Ella: “I know, but Henry said that Merlin told him about a place that will guide us towards our next great adventure.” Tiana: “First you ditch me to work at Robin’s bar and now you’re quitting that job so you can go swash-buckle your way across the realms?” Ella: “Well firstly I don’t swash-buckle and second, you told me I’m nowhere near ready to run my own food truck yet.” Tiana: “No, no, no. I said you needed more training.” Ella: “That’s just because you’re a-” Tiana: “Perfectionist.” Ella: “Control freak.” Tiana: “Whoa, hey! Whoa.” Ella: (Laughs:) “It's true.” Tiana: “Look, okay, it's not that I do not trust you.” Ella: “Hmm.” Tiana: “I just I know how I like things. And anyway, you and Henry, you have all this time to make up for, right? You should be spending it together. Maybe curled up on a couch, playing some board games? Couldn't you both use a nice, quiet day at home?” Ella: “There’ll be plenty of those days when we’re married. Look around you, Tiana, the opportunities for adventure are drying up. Come on, what do you say?” Tiana: “Let me think about it.” Ella: “That means yes!” (Laughs.) Tiana: “All right, but I’m only taking you as far as the starting line. After that, you and Henry are on your own.” Ella: “You are the best! And, (Leans out of the truck, yelling:) the Food Truck Queen of the United Realms!” Tiana: “You may bow.” (Tiana laughs when Ella performs the most elaborate and over the top bow she’s ever seen.)
Tumblr media
Camelot. Throne Room. (Queen Annis approaches Morgana who lounges on the throne.) Queen Annis: “The city has fallen. Camelot is ours.” Morgana: “Ah. I’ve been meaning to speak to you about that.” (Annis gives her a look before being attacked from behind by Agravaine who stabs her in the back, smiling as she falls to the floor, dead.) Agravaine: (Wiping off his blade on Annis’ robes:) “Camelot is yours, Morgana.” Morgana: (Unimpressed:) “And? (She rises from the throne:) Taking Camelot was the easy part, Agravaine. I want Merlin. Where is he?” Agravaine: “I don’t know, my lady. But wherever he is, he’s nowhere left to run.” (Morgana smiles.) Morgana: “In the meantime, I have a good idea where our dear Lancelot is. Prepare the horses! We’re going on a hunt.” (Agravaine smiles and laughs as Morgana stalks past him.) Storybrooke. Granny's Diner. (Rumplestiltskin finally sits down to talk with Merlin.) Rumplestiltskin: "So you're the father of magic." Merlin: (Smiles:) "Well, we both know that's not true." Rumplestiltskin: "Indeed. Morgana's brand of magic goes back thousands of years." Merlin: (Nods:) "I'm very aware of the Old Religion." Rumplestiltskin: "As am I. Even as the Dark One, I knew there were some things that you just don't trifle with." Merlin: "Yes, you preferred to store magic that was too dark and unpredictable in your vault. Are you suggesting I do the same with Morgana?" Rumplestiltskin: "I would never presume to offer advice to someone as powerful as yourself, but it might not be a bad idea."
Tumblr media
Merlin: "As someone who knows a lot about being locked away, I can tell you it rarely solves anything." Rumplestiltskin: "So you mean to face her head on then. Need I remind you of your track record when it comes to dealing with powerful sorceresses?" Merlin: "I've learned from my mistakes. I underestimated Emma Swan, and I mishandled Nimue. With Morgana I shall endeavour to show her there is another path." Rumplestiltskin: "So you wish to mentor her?" Merlin: "No, I believe we can learn from each other. Something I failed to consider with either Nimue or Emma. It was my hubris that allowed the Darkness to roam freely for centuries. I shall not make the same mistake again." Rumplestiltskin: (Smiles:) "Third time's the charm as they say. I hope you succeed and manage to help Morgana, but once you've been immersed in the power that she possesses, that's not something you can easily walk away from." Merlin: "You would know that better than anyone." Rumplestiltskin: (Nods and leans forward:) "Dark One or not, I still have the capacity to utilise magic." Merlin: "But you have not practiced magic since the Jabberwocky had Henry write your powers out of existence?" Rumplestiltskin: "It was the push I needed to be able to put magic behind me. I've since found other ways to protect the ones I love." Merlin: (Nods:) "Everything we do in this world is a choice, and I intend to offer Morgana the opportunity to choose the right path." (Their conversation is interrupted by Regina and Emma who enter the diner looking for answers.) Regina: "There you are you arrogant son of a bitch!" Merlin: (Stands, calmly:) "Ladies." Regina: "What the hell did you say to our son?" Merlin: "I merely-" Emma: "Maybe you thought you'd send him on one of your special missions? One that he won't come back from?!" Merlin: "It's not like that, I promise you." Emma: "You promised you could help rid me of the Darkness too and we all know how that turned out!" Merlin: "Listen to me, please. (Takes a breath while both women continue to glare at him:) Henry was looking for answers and I told him of a place where he and Ella might find them. I must say I'm a little disappointed as I made Henry give me his word that he wouldn't share this information." Regina: "Don't you dare doubt Henry's word. You just happened to make the mistake of trying to keep a secret in the presence of the world's biggest tattletale." Emma: (When Merlin looks to her in confusion:) "Snow." Merlin: "Ah, of course." (At that moment, further reprimands are cut short as the town's second biggest blabbermouth enters the diner.) Leroy: "Terrible news!" Emma: (Turns to face him, annoyed:) "What is it, Leroy?" Leroy: "Morgana's retaken Camelot and Guinevere's just been brought into the hospital." Emma: (Sighs:) "Great." Regina: (Poking Merlin in the chest:) "Don't think for one moment this is over. (Takes a breath:) Now you heard the man, Morgana's out of control so go do your job!" (Merlin stands shell shocked as he watches Regina and Emma leave the diner with Leroy.) Rumplestiltskin: (Smiling:) "Just be glad it's not Regina you have to deal with. I trained her myself." Merlin: (Flatly:) "I'm well aware of that."
Tumblr media
Camelot. Forest. (Lancelot, having reunited with Bedivere, travels quickly through the woods.) Sir Bedivere: (Hearing footsteps approach:) "Shh! (The others stop and Bedivere grabs someone:) Elyan.” Sir Elyan: “Don’t hold back on my account.” (They smile.) Sir Bedivere: “Is the way out of Camelot clear?” Sir Elyn: “As far as I can tell.” (They continue through the forest.) Sir Bedivere: “They’ll come after us." Sir Elyan: “Then we have to make it across the border, find sanctuary anywhere we can.” Lancelot: “Wait! (They stop and Lancelot turns back to listen. He hears hoof beats:) Listen.” Sir Bedivere: “Run!” (They run as Morgana, Agravaine, and Annis’ former soldiers ride straight for them. Morgana casts a spell, her eyes glowing and Lancelot and his knights are all thrown forward. Elyan helps Lancelot to his feet and they keep running. Soldiers pursue on foot.) Lancelot: “Where’s Bedivere?” Sir Elyan: “We have to go! (They reach a rock trench and Elyan stops:) Go!” Lancelot: “What about you?” Sir Elyan: “Don’t worry about me. Go!” (Reluctantly, Lancelot keeps running while Elyan steps into the trench opening and fights off the soldiers as they attack one at a time.) Storybrooke. Storybrooke General Hospital. (Dr. Whale leaves Guinevere’s room to find Anastasia and Merida waiting.) Anastasia: “How is she, Doctor?” Dr. Whale: “The arrow missed the femoral artery so she should be fine. I’ve got her on fluids and she’ll need to be kept under observation over night.” Merida: “Has she said anything?” Dr. Whale: “She was asking for Morgana.” Anastasia: “Morgana?” Dr. Whale: “Yes. Apparently she was the one who enchanted Guinevere. Now, if you’ll excuse me, ladies, I have rounds to make.” Anastasia: “Thank you, Doctor.” (Dr. Whale leaves.)
Tumblr media
Merida: “Why the hell would she be asking for Morgana?” Anastasia: (Shrugs:) “Maybe Guinevere was worried that Morgana might come back to finish the job?” Emma: (Entering with Regina:) “Sounds to me like Morgana isn’t the one Guinevere should be worrying about. (To Merida:) You’re the one who shot her, right?” Merida: “Aye, but only because I thought she was dinner.” Anastasia: “It’s true. I sensed something was odd about the deer, but by the time I figured it out, Merida had already fired.” Emma: “Relax, I’m not here to arrest anyone for what was clearly an accident. (To Regina:) Why would Morgana turn Guinevere into a deer?” Regina: “I don’t know, to make her easy prey?” Emma: “Well that doesn’t make any sense. If Morgana wanted Guinevere out of the way, why not just kill her?” Regina: (Shakes her head:) “Whatever her reasoning, this is just yet another reason Guinevere’s faith in Morgana is misplaced.” Emma: “You can say that again.” Zelena: (Walking towards them:) “Oh I don’t know, maybe all that’s needed is a change of heart.” Regina: (Turning to her:) “Zelena. Where the hell have you been? You were supposed to be back three days ago!” Zelena: “Well I’m sorry, but Robin and I ran into a little trouble. Turns out that creepy knight who attacked me was following us on our way to Oz.” Emma: “Mordred was following you?” Zelena: “Yeah, we managed to lose him by leading him into the poppy fields. He went out like a light. We took the long way home just to make sure we weren’t followed.” Regina: “What was so important that you had to go to Oz in the first place?” Zelena: “To retrieve something that can help stop Morgana of course.” Emma: “Like what, a weapon?” Zelena: “No, just the opposite.” Regina: “I don’t understand, what are you talking about?” (Zelena puts her arms around both Emma and Regina and leads them back down the hallway.) Zelena: “Well, after I kicked Morgana’s arse and left her laying in the forest, it reminded me a little of myself. She believes that Camelot is her birthright, much like I believed that everything Regina had should’ve been mine.” Regina: “So you’re both deluded. What’s that got to do with your trip to Oz?” Zelena: “All will become clear soon enough, and if this works, you won’t have to release Merlin from his tree.” Emma: “Yeah, about that...”

Wonderland. Forest. (Tiana and Ella walk together following a map given to them by Merlin. Henry and Will lag behind as they try to clear the air.) Will: "Listen, mate, I'm sorry about what I said and did back at Granny's." Henry: "Will, it's fine. I know you weren't in your right mind and that you had been tasked by Morgana to procure one of my tears. As things turned out, it was just a means to an end anyway." Will: "Yeah and I know Merlin's free, but is that a good thing?" Henry: "Well, Merlin's destined to be Morgana's downfall and he's the reason Ella and I are out here looking for our next great adventure. I'd say that things are definitely changing for the better so far." Will: "If you say so. Just as long as you and me are all right." Henry: "We're good. Besides, there's no point in dwelling on it now. It's all in the past. Come on, let's pick up the pace." (Up ahead, Tiana and Ella are reading the map.) Ella: “According to this map, the place we’re looking for should just be straight ahead.” (Looking up, Ella gasps. Standing in front of them are two large red doors. Between them stands a stoic looking guard.) Tiana: “What in the world? This place just gets weirder and weirder.” Ella: “Excuse me, Sir. We need-” White Knight: “Two doors appear along a stony path, and travelers always wonder; which door will lead them to their fate and which will tear asunder. Choose poorly and meet certain doom. There is no room for blunder.”

Tumblr media
Otherwise known as:
No. These are not plot holes. Seriously. It’s amazing how many of these are not plot holes. Do you know what a plot hole is? I can get the definition up for you if you’d like.
Tumblr media
This is - at most - an unfinished story. Not a plot hole. And if you’re gonna complain about THIS unfinished story, then you need to complain about a whole other unfinished story. And even then, Ruby’s story is much more finished than say: Leroy & Nova’s, Lily’s, Mulan’s, Graham’s, Kathryn’s, Lancelot & Guinevere’s, pretty much most of the cast from Season 1 and so on...
Tumblr media
A somewhat arguable plot hole. The writer points out that Regina cloaks the town from others after she has already encountered Owen and his father. The reason I say this is arguable is because this is very true, but there are also two easy explanations at the same time that debunk it as a plot hole.
For example, Storybrooke pretty much appeared on top of Own and his dad and it was only after they left that they could no longer return. Or otherwise - and the stronger argument - we have seen there is a small touch of magic in Storybrooke even if everyone claims otherwise - Regina’s ring of Daniel, her vault of heart’s, Malificent’s dragon form underground, Regina even creates a memory potion to forget who Henry is right after she adopts him. So there’s clearly some magic, just a limited supply of it. Meaning she could have used a chunk of the magic to cloak the town after Owen left.
Tumblr media
Agreed. This is either a massive plot hole or a character issue telling us that Regina never really redeemed herself. And since it’s clear the show wants us to believe that Regina is a good person now, it is a major plot hole that she still has her vault of hearts so casually that she even mentions/shows them to WishRobin in Season 6.
Tumblr media
Agree and disagree. This is why Uniting the Realms didn’t work because not everyone would be happy to leave their home and live in Storybrooke. However the writers reason doesn’t work for me.
“A few of them might be happier in their original spaces, where at least they wouldn’t have to hide who they are,” They don’t have to hide who they are in Storybrooke? After the protection spell was cast they all went about their normal lives without any fear or hiding? I mean... Did you miss Ruby’s whole episode about how she casually turns into a wolf to go running at night because she knows she can here?
“and wouldn’t have to deal with all of Storybrooke’s drama.” Because the Enchanted Forest was drama free? Dude, it’s literally Fairy Tale stories in that place, with women getting pregnant and having secret babies and witches cursing people and bandits having to fight back against Royal Rampage against the poor citizens. I’m pretty sure Storybrooke is actually LESS dramatic than the Enchanted Forest.
“Although it’s possible that they’ve become attached to sliced bread and flushing toilets, it seems silly that nobody thinks to bring these conveniences back home and make a mint on sandwiches and plumbing.”  So not only did you say it yourself by saying they’ve become attached to their new lives. But those things you listed would most likely eventually run out? Or otherwise they’re not so easily transported without magic? And anyway what’s the point? Why take turn the Enchanted Forest into Storybrooke by taking all the things you love there with you when you can just stay in Storybrooke where it’s already there?
Tumblr media
Addressing the one and only example they give of this:
“For example, in season 2, episode 12, she misses the fact that the stranger lied about what he saw prior to the crash. This seems like an easy get for someone who can sense a lie.”
Again. This isn’t necessarily a plot hole. I never believed Emma’s ability to detect lies was actually magical. She had it before she went to Storybrooke (in a land without magic remember) and I think it’s just that, after her hard life, she’s become good at reading people. Which means she’s bound to make one or two mistakes every now and then, especially when she’s nervous and when a lot of things are happening at once (like when Greg came over the town line - right after Belle lost her memory, Hook was captured, they were still dealing with Regina and Cora, as well as adjusting to all the fairy tale characters being here and so on).
Tumblr media
The only example of a heart turning truly black was Rumplestiltskin who had been alive and doing bad deeds for HUNDREDS of years. Maybe if Cora lived as long as Rumple then she would have a blacker heart, but as of now, it’s entirely possible that the black in her heart is there and we simply couldn’t see it. I don’t think we ever really saw a complete shot of her heart close up like we did Snow’s.
Another running theory is that the blackness of your heart depends on how much you acknowledge what you’re doing as wrong. Rumple did bad things and he knew full well they were bad. Cora was more the type to always insist she was doing the right thing and probably truly believed it.
Tumblr media
I want to agree because “all magic comes with a price” is a very inconsistent detail in the show... But again, the writers reasons don’t quite sit right with me.
“We meet one when our heroes use forbidden magic to save Robin’s life, and the ensuring fracas is something of a big deal. After all that drama, you’d expect a Fury to appear every time someone’s brought back from the brink of death, or especially from death itself.” You said it yourself. The fury came after Robin because “forbidden” magic was used to save his life. How many other times is the Dark One magic used to save a life? Well Emma used it to save Hook, but not quite and even if it is the same, Hook paid the price by becoming the Dark One. Correct me if I’m wrong but how often was a character saved by Dark magic?
Tumblr media
“The storybook is a convenient plot point that’s never explained, and thus becomes a plot hole.”
Okay and I know this is the excuse everyone hates and doesn’t like and blah blah blah but...
Magic.
That is literally the answer. I know it’s normally a cop out but in this case it’s actually genuine. Magic made the book appear in Mary Margaret’s closet one day (like she says in the show) and yes, there’s not a reason given. Maybe it was Merlin influence in the world, maybe there’s a natural magic in the world that gives good people happy endings, maybe Henry’s belief brought it to existence and then set it in place to find its way to him.
Again, it’s not a plot hole. More of an unexplained/unfinished plot but it’s very clear the show is using their “Magic” card on this one. And just because it’s not spelled out to you, doesn’t make it a plot hole.
Tumblr media
Agreed. This is a plot hole that really made no sense since it was made clear that August was made of wood right now. Maybe if they had it burn him (have the others acknowledge a blackened burn on his chest or something) but we’re supposed to believe he was electrocuted from it???
Tumblr media
We’ve seen Storybrooke. It’s a whole town with farms and other buildings and places. So there is obviously more to it than the main sets (aka, Granny’s). It’s a community that basically learned to live off each other.
Otherwise, and I know I keep using this excuse but it’s a legit excuse in this show: Magic!
Magic made the day repeat for 28 years so it’s a safe assumption that once the day restarted, surely magic must have kept/made a certain place for supplies or restocked the homes to keep anyone from suspecting anything. And then after the curse was broken, everyone could plan out the rest either by once again using magic or otherwise by creating their own sources.
Tumblr media
I just have a problem with everything they say on this one.
“Aside from the impossibility of importing goods into Storybrooke, there’s no way that everyone in town has a job.” ... But surely if they can’t have goods imported to them, then they need to make do on their own which would GIVE people jobs.
“There are probably four businesses that we see throughout the show, counting a dwarf-run farm.” ... Again, as you just said, this is only what we SEE. This is where the main characters hang out but we know for a fact there’s a pet rescue place, a carpenter, a mechanic, and so many other places we haven’t seen. Like I don’t understand the assumption that there are no other businesses apart from what we are physically shown.
“If Regina’s capable of casting the original curse, then why go to all of this trouble in the first place? Why not stay home and dominate there?” ... This is a troll question right? 1) Casting the curse was an incredibly hard feet that included killing the thing she loved most. 2) She went through all the trouble because she couldn’t hurt David or Snow - the objects of her revenge - in the Enchanted Forest. 3) She tried dominating her home. It didn’t work. That’s the exact point and reason why she cast the curse!
Tumblr media
Agreed. It’s pretty obvious the Zarian storyline actually came to them only AFTER they had brought already Marian back.
Tumblr media
*Sigh* You know, I’m getting real tired of Mulan and Aurora always appearing on these lists. Because most of them is just whining that they didn’t happen rather than legit points. Case and point:
“The first time Once Upon A Time flirted with the idea of two girls flirting with each other, it was when Aurora and Mulan nearly became girlfriends after Phillip’s passing.” They never nearly became girlfriends at all. They became friends but Aurora showed absolutely NO signs of returning Mulan’s SECRET feelings for her. You people need to drop this idea that this ship would of happened if not for Philip because that’s simply not the case.
“What really doesn’t make sense is that Mulan and Aurora have no more history at all. After the intensity of their nascent feelings, it doesn’t make sense that the show would just forget about them as a couple.” Again, they WEREN’T A COUPLE. They were friends. and ONCE AGAIN. A dropped/unfinished storyline is NOT a plot hole. And I actually think it wrapped up their story nicely (not actually nicely but you know what I mean). Mulan loved Aurora, Aurora didn’t return her feelings. When Mulan went to finally confess, she found out Aurora was pregnant and realised Aurora was happy with her family so Mulan bid her farewells and joined the Merry Men. That is their story! Just because you don’t like the direction it took, doesn’t mean it’s a plot hole! Learn the definition of a plot hole before you make great big lists about them!
Tumblr media
I’m gonna leave this one. Just because ages confuse me and so does the timeline so I can’t really judge how accurate the writer is on this one.
Tumblr media
I’m gonna agree but for different reasons to the writer. And simply because The Evil Queen is built up to be one of the worst enemies that the heroes have ever faced. But really think: What did she actually do while she was free running around Storybrooke for so long? Having her back was meant to be a great threat but aside from occasionally get in the way/slow other stories down, she really wasn’t all that good at being Evil.
Tumblr media
Agreed. Just, agreed.
Tumblr media
Well, when I think about it I originally agreed except that it didn’t actually defeat the Dragon. He showed up not long after perfectly fine (which to me, is a bigger plot hole than Tamara’s taser stunning him).
Tumblr media
“Imagine how confusing and traumatizing that hospital stay would be for the already confused and traumatized Belle.” Imagine how confusing and traumatizing it would be for Belle to walk down the street and run into Ruby mid transformation? Or imagine how confusing and traumatizing it would be for her to run into Cora on a bad day? Like. They kept her in hospital BECAUSE she was so confused and traumatized and they needed to keep an eye on her until she calmed down and they could trust her to take care of herself. Like... Of all places to freak Belle out right now, I actually think a hospital is the LEAST likely to do so.
Tumblr media
Uh, again... This isn’t a plot hole. It’s a character trait. Cora was determined to rise to the top ranks, which meant making her daughter Queen! Not just a Princess, but an actually QUEEN. This is very firmly stated in the show and it is very clear that Cora did not give a shit what Regina wanted anyway. She didn’t care that Regina had an easy life, she wanted her daughter to be Queen because she was determined to be top dog (through her daughter).
Tumblr media
Um, just because it’s possible doesn’t mean Rumple should know about it. As far as he was aware, it is impossible to bring back the dead and it is certainly out of his power to do - which was what Regina was asking to learn.
Also, your examples of people brought back: Emma - When was she dead? Do you mean at the end of S6 because, fair enough that was a deus ex machina thing they wanted to throw in for dramatic affect. Phillip - Wasn’t dead, his soul was just trapped in another place Hook - God’s trump Sorcerers. Henry - His heart had only just stopped when Emma used TLK, so that’s kind of like doing CPR. Maleficent - I’ll agree her’s is a plot hole. It’s stated she died several times and yet they bring her back relatively easily, but at least with her you can claim she’s more of a zombie since if she leaves the town she’ll crumple back into dust.
Here is the definition of a Plot Hole:  an inconsistency in the narrative or character development of a book, film, television programme, etc.
An incomplete story is NOT a plot hole. Which is what a lot of these are. Because it wasn’t spelled out for them, they claim plot hole but that isn’t the case. A plot hole is a factual information that was already stated in the show and was then changed without explanation later on (not to be confused with a retcon).
Off the top of my head, an example of two major plot holes are Season 7.
1st - Drizella apparently only needed Regina’s “magic” to cast the curse which is a complete plot hole because it is made very clear at least 3-4 times that you need to sacrifice the heart of the thing you love most to cast it. In fact later, Regina talks about everyone sacrificing a piece of their heart in order to cast the curse again. 2nd - Time travelling should have changed the entire course of history like it did in S3, yet at the end of S7, when they time travel, no one seems to mind talking to their past selves or running through Storybrooke. By any rights, the whole of S7 should have changed completely by the time they were done.

Ho provato all’Ikea, a Leroy Merlin.

Make my shower great again, mon General?
Tuesday morning April 10 '17: shower faucet busted. I asked the 'manager' Hamid Hocini, to come into my room to see the problem for himself. He said he'd take care of it (buy a new faucet at Leroy Merlin ... or something)
Wednesday morning April 12 '17: Mr Hocini told me he had the faucet but that he couldn't replace it just yet. Told him I'd get him later.
Thursday morning April 13 '17:
Asked Mr Hocini if he could do the job. He said he couldn't do it.
Late Thursday afternoon April 13 '17:
Mr Hocini said he didn't have the faucet. "Demain après midi" he said.
Nothing happened.

Fic: Ak’tephari Prophecy Ch 69
Read at AO3
Marnan custom was that at the Joining feast the happy couple would sit at a table at the front of the hall and their guests would come up to give their gifts as the feeling struck them.
Emma was not at all surprised that Snow was the first. She had been almost vibrating with excitement ever since she heard that Emma was going to be married, and she positively beamed as she handed over a small, cloth-wrapped parcel.
“I’m so very, very happy for you,” she said, teary-eyed and almost squeaking.
Regina smiled politely and unwrapped the gift to find a beautiful little lacy baby outfit. “Oh how lovely,” she said, and Emma knew only she could tell she was faking.
“I made it myself. You two just love each other so much I think you’re going to want to have a child to share all that love with!” Snow explained. Henry hadn’t decided whether he wanted to be named heir, so while the king and queen knew he was Emma and Regina’s child, no one else did yet.
But Snow was so sincere that Emma had to rise and hug her. “Thank you, Snow, it’s very kind and it means a lot to me.”
The way Snow hugged her so tightly she could barely breathe made Emma regret the decision immediately.
**
There was a long string of Marnan nobles after that, bringing all kinds of finery that Emma had no idea what to do with, so she just smiled and thanked them all politely but mostly let Regina do the talking. Then David came by. Emma stood up immediately at his approach.
“Emma, I’m not your boss anymore,” he pointed out. “In fact, now you’re kind of mine.”
She blushed. “Habit,” she explained. She stepped forward to shake his hand.
“Congratulations,” he said, then emphasized, “to both of you. I know that I wasn’t the most sympathetic to your relationship-”
“You were doing your job, Captain,” Regina said firmly, and Emma nodded vigorously.
“I still feel like I could’ve-”
“For all any of us knew, this day was never going to happen,” Emma insisted. “You could’ve been a little nicer about it,” she teased, “but you did what you thought was right.”
“Alright,” he conceded. Then he handed her his gift.
Emma unwrapped a beautiful dagger, made of the finest steel with a jeweled handle and sheath.
“David, this must have cost a fortune,” Emma said, a little disapproving.
“It needed to be fit for royalty,” he said, waving off the question. “Ruby for health and sapphire for happiness.”
“It’s beautiful,” Regina said before Emma could protest more, her manners impeccable as always. “Thank you.”
**
“Henry, I know you’re not trying to give us a gift,” Emma said. She was sharper than she meant to be, still feeling uneasy after David’s generosity.
“Emma,” Regina chided. “Don’t be ungrateful.”
“But he’s our-” she gestured vaguely.
“And it’s because you’re my,” Henry said, mimicking her motion sassily, “that I want to celebrate your joining.”
“Alright,” Emma grumbled. “But it better not be expensive.”
“You’re impossible,” Regina chuckled, smacking her arm lightly. “What do you have for us, my dear Henry?”
He smiled and held up a whetstone, and Emma burst out laughing, her disapproval forgotten.
“What?” Regina demanded.
“Henry and I first became good friends, and I first realized how very special he was, when he helped me get a new whetstone. It’s a wonderful gift,” Emma said, standing and hugging him tight.
**
“There you are, darlings!” a voice exclaimed, and they turned to see the Lady Cruella, who apparently had lost track of them despite their prominent place in the room.
“Hello, Cousin,” Regina greeted politely. “I trust you’re well?”
“To be frank, it’s just ghastly. The bartender cut me off!”
Emma bit the inside of her cheek to keep from laughing. Regina murmured an appropriately concerned “Oh I’m so sorry to hear that” as if she hadn’t been the one who gave the instructions to keep people from getting out of hand.
“Fortunately, I always come prepared,” she said, pulling a flask from somewhere inside her fur cape. “And that is what every good marriage needs,” she went on, putting the first flask back and pulling out a second one. “So here! May you always have good cheer wherever you go!” she said as she handed it over. Emma did not fail to notice that it sloshed as if she’d filled it, but was only half full.
It was also elegant and beautifully engraved, and she and Regina made appropriate appreciative noises.
“Yes, good, of course it’s exactly what you wanted,” Cruella said. “And now, if you’ll excuse me, I must go find my husband. Joinings always make one randy, don’t they?”
They were spared the need to answer when she left without waiting to hear it.
**
When Emma saw her whole patrol worth of soldiers approaching, she murmured to Regina, “Now can I object about people spending too much money on me?”
“No.”
“Fine,” she hissed, then said to the men as they arrived, “Guys, you didn’t have to get me anything.”
“Sure we did, sir,” Leroy said. “You’re the best leader any of us have ever had, and we also feel like we had a hand in helping this day happen on account of helping you save the world.”
“Which is enough of a gift,” Emma said, then subsided when Regina elbowed her.
“You sure?” Javier asked with a grin, stepping aside to show that the men behind him were carrying a finely tooled new saddle.
Emma was touched. “Guys, it’s beautiful, but it’s too much.”
“Not when it’s split this many ways,” Billy pointed out, smiling. “Please, let us give it to you.”
“Don’t think this will make me go easy on you,” Emma growled, and then hugged every single one of them.
**
The last person Emma expected to see approaching them was Mulan.
“Sir,” she said in greeting, holding out a bundle.
“Thank you,” Emma said, equally stiff. Unwrapping it, she saw an exquisitely delicate wood carving. Looking closer, she saw that it was the perfect likeness of Bug and Rigby, leaning against each other affectionately. Startled, she looked up.
“I wasn’t the nicest to you when you came here, sir,” Mulan said. “I resented that they hired you instead of promoting me, and I tried to make things hard on you because I thought you didn’t deserve it. But I’ve come to realize that I was wrong and you’re brave and honorable, and I wanted to apologize for my behavior.”
Emma was speechless, but Regina came to her rescue. “It’s beautiful, Sergeant. Thank you.”
Emma managed to put out her hand, and Mulan shook it warmly as their eyes met and they nodded in understanding.
**
After that, there had been a long string of Regina’s royal cousins giving them silver dishes and jeweled brooches and all kinds of things they had absolutely no use for, and Emma was even more thrilled to see Merlin and Marian coming toward them than she would normally be.
“I’m so glad that you could make the journey,” Regina said to Marian, rising to hug her tightly.
“I wouldn’t miss it for the world,” Marian replied as they parted. “No pun intended,” she added, and they all chuckled.
Emma was next, and hugging Marian always felt like coming home. Marian held her through a long, slow breath, and then pulled back and held her by the arms, looking at her with love and pride. “Ikeh,” she said. “My child. I am so very happy for you.”
“Thank you, tika,” she murmured.
Merlin hugged her next, and Emma started to feel a little sad realizing that he would leave when Marian did, and she’d lose the closest thing she had to a family all over again.
“I know that face,” Marian said.
“What face?” Emma said, though she knew she was caught.
Marian just raised an eyebrow and handed her their gift. “Fortunately, we have just the solution.”
Unwrapping it carefully, Emma found a beautiful leather-bound book with blank pages. She looked at them in confusion.
“A Book of Days, to keep all your memories of your life together,” Merlin explained.
“It’s an old Ilmenean tradition that I think is good to revive,” Marian added. “With a little something extra.”
“Extra?” Regina asked.
“It’s magical. So, when you write down your happy memories, it will also appear in the copy we have back in Lukmán,” Merlin said.
Marian winked. “And we can comment in the margins about how happy we are for you.”
“It’s wonderful,” Emma said, her voice cracking.
**
“Lady Regina, Lady Emma.” Emma was startled to look up and see Maleficent inclining her head in as much as a bow as she would give.
“I’m not much of a lady,” Emma answered, smiling because she knew that she was playing with her.
“No indeed.” Maleficent’s mouth quirked a bit. Holding up a small bag, she added, “I bring a gift for your union, if I may.”
“Thank you,” Regina said, and then her eyes widened slightly as Maleficent pulled a wooden box far larger than the bag from it.
Then, handing the box to Emma, Maleficent quirked an expectant eyebrow.
Emma opened it and turned six or seven shades of red in succession before snapping it shut.
“It’s enchanted, of course,” Maleficent explained, as if Emma wasn’t struck dumb.
“Enchanted?” Regina asked eagerly, having caught a glimpse.
“Not like that one. You can produce an heir.” Maleficent smirked. "There are instructions, but in the event you can't figure it out you can always give me a call. Or if you just want to have a visit." Then she winked and sauntered off as if she knew Emma’s eyes were glued to her ass.
Emma caught herself and turned guiltily to Regina, only to find her doing the same thing. They chuckled, and then kissed.
“Soon,” Regina murmured against her lips. “Very soon.”
“With her, or just us?” Emma asked.
“Her later. You very soon. I miss you,” Regina said.
“Hey Emma,” a voice said, and they pulled apart to see Ruby.
“I’m so glad you came!” Emma said, hugging her.
“So am I,” Ruby murmured. She tilted her head in the direction Maleficent had gone. “Made a new friend, so forgive me if I make this fast.” She raised what was unmistakably a wrapped bottle.
Emma chuckled. “What else from our friend the tavern owner?”
“Yeah, but this is the good stuff. Aged apple cider. Hard to find. The finest booze in my whole collection.”
“You’re too good to us, Ruby,” Regina chuckled.
“I am, but lucky for you, you have very hot friends,” she said. Then she hugged Emma again and headed off after Maleficent.

psst… if anyone wants to send me some angsty...
I want something angsty AU with mixed wires and both thinking they have missed their chance with each other. Yes. That’s vague.
Vague and yet I love it?? I doubt I could write anything good enough to keep you reading but i’ll try lol. It’s short and sweet but i hope it’s okay.
She should have known this would have been her luck. Apparently good things don’t happen for Emma Swan. Ever.
“You want to talk about it?” David asked her as he settled a hot mug in front of her slouching form at the breakfast bar.
“I don’t even know where to start.”
She really didn’t. How does one explain to their older brother their boy troubles, when said brother may have just been the cause of them in the firs place?
“The beginning always helps.”
She’d met Killian on her second day in her new job. She was unaware that the Storybrooke archive was such a large department. She’d expected it to be just her in a musty basement; instead she was part of a seven-person team with a floor all to themselves.  She’d already met Leroy, Ariel, Belle, Merlin and Archie, and had a brief introduction to August who apparently was seldom there. But Killian, she’d had the pleasure of meeting on her second day. He was cheeky, flirty, infuriatingly happy and extremely easy on the eyes. Which of course made Emma dislike him from the start.
Not wanting to cause trouble in a job she’d only just started, she gritted her teeth and chose to ignore him, which was a task in itself. Slowly, she found herself interacting with him more, apparently giving the brush off only encouraged him and Emma couldn’t help that a small part of her began to enjoy the back and forth.
The first time he asked her out, she flat out told him no with a cold harsh tone to her voice. He’d faltered at the knock back but accepted her rejection like a trooper and resumed their strange friendship as if it had never happened.
She’d often come back to her desk to find a steaming cup of fresh Starbucks coffee waiting for her, with his prosthetic curled around it.
“Don’t let it go cold, love. That nearly cost me an arm and a leg.” He’d wink over at her, chuckling at his ridiculous joke. Somewhere between scowling at his poor humour and returning his false limb, he wormed his way into her affections.
Over six months they became closer, and after a few after work outings with others, they learned more about each other and just how much in common they had. Casual texting became more frequent and grabbing a bite to eat at the local diner after work became a regular occurrence.
They’d become friends.
The second time he asked to take her to dinner, it was pure fear that had her turning him down.
“I like you, Killian. You’re a great friend but I just… don’t date. I’m not ready for that.”
He’d smiled warmly at her, trying to hide the sadness at being knocked back again.
“I understand, Swan.“
He’d bounced back with a promise of being a patient man and if she ever found herself ready, he’d be waiting. He’d covered it with his usual cocky bravado but Emma knew the truth behind the words… and that’s what scared her.
She wasn’t used to having something good – someone good. It scared her. She was always waiting for the other shoe to drop. As hard as she fought it, Emma found herself falling for him more and more. He was kind, patient, warm, caring, took every detail in that surprised her, he was there when she needed him at every turn and was always going above and beyond to make her happy.
She knew she couldn’t deny it anymore.
She wanted him.
She’d fell completely head over heels for him.
But she also didn’t know how in the hell to tell him.
Then today had happened. He’d been rather skittish the whole day, throwing himself into work and barely stopped to talk to her. Sure, he’d thrown a cheeky line or two her way, but knowing him the way she did now, she knew it was for show.
“He said he’s got big plans tonight so he’s nervous, bless him.” Belle had informed her.
Emma’s heart sank. Maybe that’s why he was being off with her. He’d found someone else. He’d moved on. He’d grown tired of waiting for her and decided not to wait around anymore.
She supposed she had no right to feel upset. He was a great guy and had been nothing but wonderful to her. He deserved to find someone who’d show him the same treatment. But she couldn’t help kicking herself for not telling him sooner.
She’d gone home with heavy heart that night. She’d barely spoken to him for the rest of the day and decided to wallow on the couch with wine and mindless television, trying her best not to think about whether or not his mystery plans were currently treating some lucky woman to a three course meal or a romantic walk along the pier.
A knock at the door dragged her out of her pity party, sending her into a state of confusion.
The sight of David standing at the other side of the threshold had her jumping forward and throwing herself into his arms. He chuckled at the enthusiasm and humoured her by spinning her around in the hall; glad his surprise visit had been a positive welcome. When her feet were finally back on the ground, she was about to bombard him with one hundred and ten questions about how and why he’d shown up, but a blur of movement and crinkle had her turning to the end of the hall…
The end of the hall, where Killian Jones was standing, large bouquet in his hand and a crushed look on his face.
Emma was frozen, unable to absorb just what was happening. She stood, completely shocked as he dropped his head and stepped back. He managed to give her a small, bittersweet smile before turning and disappearing round the corner and out of the building.
And yet Emma still couldn’t move.
“And now I feel like I’ve come at a bad time.”
Emma turned back to her brother and sunk her face into his shoulder.
“I can’t believe I’m about to say this, but you need to go and talk to him.” David urged her, taking a seat opposite.
“I will, I just… I want to spend some time with you first, I haven’t seen you in forever and want to hear all about what Mary Marga-”
“Emma. I’m in town until Monday evening. We’ve got plenty of time to catch up.” He reached over the counter top and placed his hand on her shoulder. “I think you need to go and sort this out first.”
She took a deep breath, knowing he was right.
Killian closed his apartment door, not bothering to turn on the lights. He felt numb, hollow, foolish. He’d been so sure this time. After the past few months, there’d been a shift in their friendship. Emma had been warmer, less guarded and more affectionate.
And there were moments. Moments where he’d catch her looking at him with something in her eye; something more.
Clearly he’d been seeing things; his own hopes and desires being twisted into something that wasn’t there.
And he was such an idiot. He’d planned to tell her, unable to hide his feelings anymore, working himself up into a mess with nerves. He should have known better. Should have listened to his head instead of letting his heart lead.
She’d told him once already. She wasn’t interested. She doesn’t date.
He’d ignorantly assumed that it was just her walls speaking for her; her fear of opening up holding her back.
Turns out she just wasn’t interested in dating him.
He couldn’t blame her. And now he’d just completely ruined the best friendship he’s ever had because he couldn’t leave things alone.
He lay back on cold leather couch in his living room and stared up at the blackened ceiling, fully prepared to stay in this position until Monday morning came round.
He certainly wasn’t about to answer the door to whoever was knocking on it, not until he heard her voice calling his name.
His heart pounded as he opened it, terrified of why she’d sought him out after embarrassing himself the way he did.
“Can I come in?”
He led her into the living room and switched on a lamp, anything to keep him from having to face her.
“You disappeared.”
“Aye. I saw you were busy and… I didn’t want to interrupt.” He explained.
His voice was quiet, hesitant, nothing like what she was used to.
“David, my brother. He showed up unexpectedly.”
Killian nodded in understanding. He’d heard her mention her brother before but had never seen the man. He now felt an even bigger fool for assuming she was having relations with a man that had turned out to be her family.
Job well done, Killian.
Awkward silence settled in around them as they both shuffled in their spots. He was still unable to look at her directly; terrified of the rejection or ridicule he’d see.
“Killian? Why did you show up tonight?” Her voice sounded small, as if she was frightened to ask the question.
“I just...” He couldn’t do it anymore. He couldn’t brush it off. He’d already made an ass of himself, if he was already in for a penny, he might as well go in for a pound.
He finally looked up at her, soul bared for her guarded eyes to see.
“I was there because I wanted to tell you something. I’m in love with you, Emma.  You’re the best thing to ever happen to me and I know I’ve probably ruined everythin-“
His confession was cut off when her mouth found his. The shock of finally having her in his arms melted away as he lost himself in the feel of her lips finally.
She pulled back slightly, mouth still hovering against his own.
“I’ve wanted to tell you for so long but had no clue how.” She murmured against his lips.
Apparently, sometimes good things do finally did happen for Emma swan.
Finally.
