lepidus cryhavoc needs to be studied. he is the epitome of some guy he wants to throw a birthday party, he sets himself on fire by accident when greeting Cleopatra the pharaoh of Egypt™, no one likes him, he gets invited to orgies, he gets all the guests invited to his aforementioned birthday party assassinated, he gets kicked out of his own house and then receives it as a birthday gift, the pirates who keep him for ransom ask no money to send him back, he's technically in charge of the Roman republic but no one knows him. this isn't even scratching the surface. fascinating. get this man on a petri dish.

I LOVE the plot picking up but something about Lepidus just wanting to celebrate his birthday in Cry Havoc episode 17 is so funny to me

cry havoc relisten thought- it's cool the way they set up the groundwork for gaius's eventual mass murder scheme. not just characterizing him as ruthlessly committed to Getting The Job Done, but in setting up how he himself gets to the idea. it all starts with mark selling cleopatra lepidus's house in ep 12 and annaeus bribing them because he caused a plague scare ep 14, he starts connecting the dots of "the money is already in rome, we just need to somehow get it from the sentors." the problem with the dodgy real estate scheme was that no one was actually selling their houses, and deferring the sales until the occupants naturally died wasn't going to cut it, especially not without any justification for the triumvirs to cease land from the deceased's families. all these little things lining up one by one to make the obvious conclusion "the senators have all the money we need but we can't get it if they're alive."

I love that the triumvirate in Cry Havoc! is simply three babies in a trench coat:
Gaius - literally a baby (so so young)
Mark - behaving like a baby
Lepidus - naive like a baby
#and I am over here yelling you are certainly doing a job sweeties! not sure it’s a good job but something definitely!#cry havoc#cry havoc ask questions later#rusty quill

Lepidus saying that the third triumvir is just a metaphor for Rome is just the most Lepidus thing to say I could hope for. I love Cry Havoc! Lepidus 😌
