A Taste of Love-mrspeetamellark (ao3) Summary: An Everlark secret admirer fic. Written from the following prompt on tumblr from lemonluvgirl87: How about a prompt based on the idea of Peeta secretly courting Katniss through food dishes he prepares and leaves outside her door, on her desk, etc? And she falls in love with the food (it's tailored to her tastes and interests) and eventually really wants to find out who is cooking for her and knows her so well. Then she finds out it's Peeta somehow and BAM! They fall in love.

Summary: A girls’ trip. A last hurrah before sending one of their own off to married life is what has Katniss Everdeen jetting off to Iceland to visit the famous Nordic hot springs. She expected to be forced into outdoor public bathing and weird spa treatments and browbeaten into relaxing, but what she didn’t expect was to run into someone from her past‒a very handsome someone whom she hadn’t realized she’d always paid attention to.

“We DID NOT have sex in the hot springs!” Katniss protested. “It was all a ruse to get you psychos off our backs.”

Prim smirked and folded her thin arms. “A likely story.”

Katniss grunted in annoyance then went on to explain how they’d known it was a setup and that they were being watched, so they’d faked it.

“You had to fake it? Poor Peeta.”

“Ha-ha,” said Katniss dryly.

“Fine. Let’s say I believe you. What is going on between you and Peeta, then?”

“Nothing.”

“Nothing?” Prim huffed.

“Really.” Katniss’s eyes flitted away because it wasn’t ‘nothing.' But it wasn’t exactly something, either. Well, it was, in a way; Peeta had confessed he used to have a crush on her. She supposed that was something…

As for the things he’d said…the dirty talk, well, that must’ve just been Peeta’s natural skill with words. It couldn’t have come from any place real. Why would he think those things about her, her, and after all these years apart?

OK I wanna know a few things...but that doesn't mean you're obligated to tell me what I wanna know. I just thought I'd ask.

Ok, question #1. How did you pick everyone's cars for the FF/THG crossover?? What was your thought process for that? 🤔

OK #2 How often do you take inspiration from your surroundings when you write a story? Do you enjoy inserting landmarks and local culture??

Just curious because I really enjoy reading your stories and want to know more about your whole writing style and your overall inspiration and process.

Hey love! First off, sorry this took so long!

Prepare for a lengthy response, due to a lengthy (reminder) discussion with Hubbs about why we chose the cars for TPONR.

#1. For Peeta, we chose the Skyline because Paul Walker's character (Brian) used them primarily in the Fast movies, and even owned one personally. Katniss, we chose the Integra because Mia (Jordana Brewster) drove one in the series. Personally, I like the Intergra. We decided on Haymitch's Barracuda because we wanted a classic American muscle car, an oldie but goodie like him. For Johanna, we saw her as a drifter like Katniss, but she's more orthodox in her technique. A car like Nissan 370-Z with a front engine, rear wheel drive works best for her, unlike Katniss' car which is a front engine, front wheel and is more of a challenge to drift with.

Gale, we picked the Dodge Viper because we thought of him as someone who would pick something that has all power but no handle. In Hubbs' words, a "big dick" car. Finnick was given the Shelby GT 500 because we thought of him as wanting something classical but a more updated version. He's a no frills, jack-of-all-trades driver and we wanted his car to reflect that. Annie, we wanted something flashy with no modifications. She used her car show modeling money and wanted something straight out of the showroom. Annie's not the best driver in the crew but she holds her own and can handle her Porsche 911 Turbo well. Thresh, we chose the Mazda RX-7 because it was something agile and we imagine as a driver, he'd be good with circuit driving, as well driving on curved roads (that a lot of SF hills have). We chose a Dodge Charger for Beetee because he is more technical and didn't want anything that he needed to modify. The car is what it is; for him, it's more about adding tech in it than fixing it up. Gloss and Brutus are essentially muscle men so they needed a car with quick maneuverability like the Toyota GR 86 to get away from any shady dealings.

#2. I take inspiration from my surroundings ALL the time. "Two Wrongs" is basically a love letter to San Francisco. I love giving readers a little slice of places I've been and experiences I've had because it makes my words real.

For example, Katniss is going to experience her very first lowrider cruise in the next part of TPONR.

As I stated earlier this week, I wanted to write a short continuation of this fic, because it has recently reached over 500 kudos on AO3. I also thought it would be cute to do for Valentine’s week and I wanted to write something about Everlark being a power couple during Mockingjay and being low-key married. (FYI I might have written a marriage kink into this, but in all honesty I think it’s pretty evident that Peeta has a super hard wife kink when it comes to Katniss in Catching Fire…so I will not be apologizing for that.) 

Friendly reminder, this is a work of fiction and I own nothing. The characters I’m borrowing belong to Suzanne Collins and I get no reward for writing this beyond the comments and kudos and of course the thrill of writing Katniss and Peeta in 13 without the hijacking. Also, I’m updating the tags on AO3 but I am not posting this chapter on AO3 yet until my beta has a chance to look it over. But I did want to post here on tumblr, because I know you guys don’t care about typos.

England XVIII

This movie was inspired by the true story of Dido Elizabeth Belle (Katniss Everdeen), the illegitimate mixed race daughter of Royal Navy Captain Sir John Lindsay (Mr.Everdeen). Raised together with her cousin Elizabeth Murray (Prim) by her aristocratic great-uncle Lord William Murray (Haymitch) , 1st Earl of Mansfield, his wife (Effie), and Belle's lineage affords her certain privileges, yet the color of her skin prevents her from fully participating in the traditions of her social standing. Left to wonder if she will ever find love, Belle falls for an idealistic young vicar's son bent on change (Peeta Mellark), who, with her help, shapes Lord Mansfield's role as Lord Chief Justice to end slavery in England.

Prompt 4 - Based on the movie "The Greatest Showman" (2017)

Option 1: Peeta is P.T. Barnum, Hugh Jackman's character (I feel like Peeta would make an excellent showman/ringmaster with his personality). Peeta is a humble baker but dreams of a more exciting life, and he makes promises to his childhood love, Katniss. After they're married Peeta chases his dreams, taking Katniss along with him. (You don't have to follow the plot of the movie exactly. Katniss and Peeta can have marital problems, due to his career and female attention, as long as there's no infidelity by Peeta and it's HEA Everlark).

Option 2: Peeta and Katniss are Phillip Carlylye the playwright and Anne Wheeler the trapeze artist (Zac Efron and Zendaya). He falls hard for her, and she for him, but at the time, it's not socially acceptable for them to be together/his parents don't approve (because of her skin color). Again, you can alter the plot as needed, but HEA Everlark, please.

Prompt 9 - Based on TV Show “Gran Hotel”

Gran Hotel was a Spanish drama/murder mystery about a family-owned hotel in the fictional coastal Spanish town of Cantaloa in 1905. This show is extremely dramatic and highly unrealistic at times with a lot of subplots, but the main story has to do with the characters of Julio, a guy who comes to the hotel and gets a job as a waiter but actually just wants to investigate his sister's disappearance (who previously worked as a maid there), and Alicia, the owner's unhappy daughter who's father somewhat recently passed away and who has to get married to a suitor her mother picked for her. They meet, fall in love and start an affair while she becomes the only person who will help him discover the truth about his sister's disappearance, while he helps her find out the real reason behind her father's death. I think this could work really well with everlark, but especially if the roles are reversed (not completely) - Julio has sort of a love at first sight moment and he is more open about his feelings, but then he's a different class compared to Alicia and then the only reason he came there is his sister, while Alicia is the youngest of three (if I remember correctly), slightly rebellious and also has a very controlling and borderline abusive mother. I feel like it would match better if they switched + there is the character Ayala, a detective that helps them with solving the murders, who I just think would be the perfect Haymitch. Anyway, I know it's unlikely anyone has seen it, but maybe someone will get inspired to write something similar.

Prompt 13: based on the myth “The Cowherd and the Weaver Girl”

A popular Chinese myth referenced to be the Chinese version of Valentine's day.

A young cowherd named Niulang (Chinese: 牛郎; pinyin: niú láng; literally "[the] cowherd"), came across seven fairy sisters bathing in a lake. Encouraged by his mischievous companion the ox, he stole their clothes and waited to see what would happen. The fairy sisters elected the youngest and most beautiful sister Zhinü (simplified Chinese: 织女; traditional Chinese: 織女; pinyin: zhī nǚ; literally "[the] weaver girl", the star Vega) to retrieve their clothing. She agreed to do so, but since Niulang had seen her naked, she agreed to his request for marriage. She proved to be a wonderful wife, and Niulang to be a good husband. They lived happily and had two children. But the Goddess of Heaven (or in some versions, Zhinü's mother) found out that Zhinü, a fairy girl, had married a mere mortal. The Goddess was furious and ordered Zhinü to return to heaven. (Alternatively, the Goddess forced the fairy back to her former duty of weaving colorful clouds, a task she neglected while living on earth with a mortal.) On Earth, Niulang was very upset that his wife had disappeared. Suddenly, his ox began to talk, telling him that if he killed it and put on its hide, he would be able to go up to Heaven to find his wife. Crying bitterly, he killed the ox, put on the skin, and carried his two beloved children off to Heaven to find Zhinü. The Goddess discovered this and was very angry. Taking out her hairpin, the Goddess scratched a wide river in the sky to separate the two lovers forever, thus forming the Milky Way between Altair and Vega.

Zhinü must sit forever on one side of the river, sadly weaving on her loom, while Niulang watches her from afar and takes care of their two children (his flanking stars β and γ Aquilae or by their Chinese names Hè Gu 1 and Hè Gu 3).

But once a year all the magpies in the world would take pity on them and fly up into heaven to form a bridge (鵲橋, "the bridge of magpies", Que Qiao) over the star Deneb in the Cygnus constellation so the lovers may be together for a single night, which is the seventh night of the seventh moon.

Prompt 14 - Based on the movie “The Mountain Between Us”

In the face of an incoming blizzard, while stuck in Salt Lake City International Airport, perfect strangers, free-spirited photojournalist, Alex Martin (Katniss Everdeen) and straight-laced brain surgeon, Dr Ben Bass (Peeta Mellark), charter a small plane to reach Denver. Instead, they find themselves injured, freezing, and stranded in a snow-covered ridge in the heart of the unforgiving High Uintas Wilderness, along with the pilot's golden retriever. Now, the lucky but utterly unprepared survivors have to brave the elements and work together to stand a fighting chance to live. However, amid cruel dilemmas, and when all hope seems lost, how do you trust someone you have just met?

They end up falling in love, but Ben (P) knows he can't be with Alex (K) since she reunites with her fiancee (Gale). Alex (K) misses Ben (P) and realizes she still loves him. They meet up again in New York City and give in to their feelings for each other.

Katniss as Alex and Peeta as Ben, but Peeta is the photographer and Katniss the Doctor…

Her friend/boyfriend, before leaving, whispers to her 'If you don't leave now, you may never make it out'. He leaves, she hesitates then follows him to a taxi. They wind up buying an old used car and taking a road trip to escape everything together. The pair experiences everything from getting lost, to fighting and resolving conflict, and they fall deeper in love. At the end, they get married on a whim. (We can ignore the part where she actually imagined the whole thing, for the HEA).

Hi Everyone, decided to make this post in case you DIDNT already know why "Hitting the Target" hasn't been updated in a while.

A month or so ago, I requested that we put HtT on temporary hiatus so @lemonluvgirl87 could focus all her writing energy and creativity into "Promise me, little brother" an amazing as hell fic which I wasn't reading and wouldn't read until its complete. As it is, PM, LB was over halfway done and wifey agreed that we would put HtT on hiatus for the ending of 2021 and maybe january 2022 as well.

This will allow her to complete PM, LB which is drawing to a close (*excited squeals*) and it will allow me to work on my THG fic exchange contribution, as well as a few other one-shots I am writing for my friends' birthdays in December and January (one of which has become a longer more complicated WIP instead of staying a oneshot).

We're sorry if you're disappointed but we will be getting back to HtT soon enough and when we do, there's some sexual tension we gotta resolve! 😊
