We worked really hard today! Windy day, horses running around, calling out etc, and this kid had his game face on. I'm still focusing on riding him more forward and keeping him straighter, and we did a bit of counterflexion in the trot and canter, too. He was much better off my leg today, and I could tell he was genuinely trying hard for me - well, after he got his little throw down out of the way 😂💕 I ended up shortening my stirrups a hole at the start of the ride which is why I look a bit 'showjumper-y', but it was so I could ride a little stronger as my balance has been a bit crap. This little lady just tries and tries! 💕 . We did lots of trotting today and got a few buttons installed. We did lots of transitions between halt, walk, and trot, changes of direction, and we had our first brain-fart and one rein stop - the brakes work perfectly! 😂👌 Hoping for more gorgeous days like today ahead, the weather has been absolutely horrendous here this week. The rain is great for the new hay seedlings, but everywhere else is mud, and our street was underwater just last night, eek! 😳 . I wish this crappy weather would sod off! All week it's been high 30's and windy - horrible for the poor firies out there battling the bushfires, and today we have more high winds and a severe storm warning... Feeling sorry for the Queenslanders with the flooding, and those in the U.S with the #polarvortex ... I'm thinking Mother Nature needs to chill out! I suggest a block of chocolate, a big glass of @jackdaniels_us , and a @imsebastianstan movie - stat! 😂 Back in the gym tonight for some physio training and a run - if theres one thing I learned last year, it's that dressage riders are absolute athletes... Hey everyone, hope you're all staying safe with this scary virus about! 🙏💕 . We've had a REALLY exciting week here at KRequestrian which I'll spill about in the coming days - but in the meantime here's a few pics of Tazzie's first Drill Day! 🌟 . One of the things I do with young horses before they go out, is run a few drills of things they may encounter out in the big bad world 😁 . 1 - Working quietly with another horse and rider going around ✔️ 2 - Coping with another horse getting in the way, cutting us off, running up from behind and head on - typical warm up ring stuff! ✔️ 3 - Working with scary/noisy distractions going on (including screaming kids) ✔️ 4 - Working nicely with a different rider on board ✔️ . I'm honestly so proud of this little horse, and I think she'll be a brilliant pony clubber! The next step would have been taking her off property, but with the COVID-19 lockdown that isn't possible unfortunately. Instead I'll keep working her at home and exposing her to as much as possible, riding her in other areas of our property and stuff like that - she'll only get better and better! . HUGE thank you to Dakota for being my guinea pig - you rode her so well, I was absolutely stoked with you both 🙏💕 . Bonsey 🌟 . Here's a little unedited snippet of our ride the other day - as promised! 😂🙈 . Videos are a bit more honest than photos, so this gives you a pretty good look at what this boy is like under saddle 💕 . This was still only ride four, so you can see how green he is - but for an ott so early on in the piece, I'm pretty happy with him! . I left the sound on, as I tend to think out loud when I ride, so you get little snippets of what's going on in my brain as we go. In the longer video I'm muttering 'help him, more outside leg... There we go... Give with your inside... More forward!' 😂 . It's not always pretty in these early stages, but my job isn't to sit there and look good, for now, I'm there to teach the horse. We'll polish at the end once all the button installation and fine-tuning is done! 😉💎 . At this stage it's all forwardness, suppling, and straightness - and the more forward he's going into my two hands, the straighter he is. You can see he wobbles when we lose that forwardness, and when I kick him on he straightens up and the contact improves as well. Forward = your friend, and using leg on a racehorse is a good thing! 😁🙌 . I didn't get to ride yesterday as we had a huge 'farm day', but it was super satisfying to smash out a few jobs! We cut back more trees, split a heap of firewood, planted two more weeping willows, mowed, sprayed the roundyard to prep the surface, serviced a car, harrowed everywhere, sorted rugs, and cleaned/filled all the waters 💪 . Back to rainy weather again, but hopefully will be back on board within the next few days 😊💕🏇 .
