I loved A Tale of Two Cities. Personally I'm quite angry that the director decided to film it in B&W because it did the stars a huge injustice. I'm a massive fan of both Dirk Bogarde and Dorothy Tutin (I actually run another blog dedicated to her). Thanks again for the awesome posts. I can't wait to see more of them x
Thank you so much!!!  I’m still learning to make gifs (I mostly just draw), so I’m glad that you like them!  There will definitely be more gifs.  I probably (just right now) have enough gifs for a dozen posts or so.  It’s quite ridiculous.  And yes, I’m angry about that, too!  I once saw a newspaper article from when the movie came out that said (paraphrasing), “Color would have made it a ‘far, far better’ film,” and to this day, I still laugh about it because they had the opportunity, and they took it.
And in response to your other ask, I’ll definitely make some gifs of her!  It might be about a week, though, because I still have a few other gifs that I want to make (and am starting to get a bit exhausted of the whole gif-making process), but I WILL make some gifs of her for you!  As you can probably tell, though, most of my gifs are of Carton because I’m…very obsessed with Sydney Carton.  But again, thank you!! :D

Rule 4: Let them know you’ve tagged them (I've already done this before so I'm just going to answer the questions :D) leilahyams' questions:
1. Silent film or talkie? I'm gonna have to go with talkie, though I absolutely love the silents and I think that those were the REAL films (if that makes sense)
2. Favourite OH actor and actress? Actor- Marlon Brando Actress- Kim Hunter, Jean Harlow, Jean Simmons (in that order, but can't leave any of them out no matter what)
3. OH actress or actor you most dislike? I don't know...I have a respect for everyone, but I guess I'd dislike anyone who's egocentric.
4. Favourite song (can be from any film pre-1970)? Could it be part of a score? I would go with 'Conversation Piece' from 'North by Northwest' or the entire score from 'On the Waterfront' 5. Favourite Rita Hayworth film? I haven't seen all of them but the one I've most enjoyed was 'The Strawberry Blonde'
6. Last OH film you watched? 'Manhattan Melodrama'

8. Favourite quote from any pre-70s film? This is too hard!!! I'll just go with 'Hey Stellaaaaaaa'
9. Most talented OH actor/actress in your honest opinion? Brando
10. Buster, Harold or Charlie? Harold :)
11. First question you’d ask were you to ever meet your favourite OH actor/actress in person? I'd mostly love to meet Harlow... I'd probably just ask her for any advice to be honest lol. iheartclassichollywood's questions:
Fave film genre Pre-Code. :)
Fave film decade 1930s
Fave television show Breaking Bad (wink wink, Ana)
Fave band/musician Dean Martin :)
Fave writer This is tough but for now... Mario Puzo.

Fave actor Marlon! :)
Fave actress Already answered above :D
Comedy or drama? Drama
Fave international cinema I would say French, though there are also brilliant Russian films
Fave language Italian

I thought it was about time I talked about the source of my admiration for Leila Hyams, and how it came about. No-one will see this probably, but at least I can say 'I've put it out there'.
I first came across Leila after having watched her play Venus in 'Freaks' (1932), and even though I wasn't really interested in classic movies - I was rather more interested in horror films at the time, I was awestruck by her on-screen 'presence'. Now when I talk about 'presence' I don't talk specifically about her beauty but rather more about her character, for she was the type of actress that you instinctively knew was genuine. This is reinforced by the fact that she invited the whole cast to her home for tea - which demonstrated her caring nature. She was clearly a genuinely nice girl and it captivated me to such an extent that I decided to look into her background, however as you can imagine there wasn't very much about her at that time and her Wikipedia entry offered very little in the way of details.
Because of this I left it at that and continued on my merry way until I was introduced to film noir by a friend of mine a couple of years later, and it was from that point on that I took an interest in classic Hollywood film in general. This invariably brought me back to Leila - who I'd never truly forgotten about.
As I have finally managed to come around to Marilyn Monroe, I really do hope other people come around to Leila Hyams because she was so intelligent, vibrant, caring, considerate and more importantly an amazing actress! She deserves no less.

1. What is your favorite film from the 1940’s?
oh shit. Literally my fav period for films. Going to go with And Then There Were None (1945)
2. Who do you think are the most talented actor and actress working today?
Actors: John Hannah, Paul Bettany, Matt Smith and Walton Goggins
Actresses: none I can think of.
3. What are 3 things/causes that you’re extremely passionate about?
Animal cruelty, legalizing gay marriage. And I would like to see less people put in prison for USING drugs. They don't belong there and they fill up our prisons when they should be in rehab getting help.
4. Is gay marriage legal in your state/country/area?
yes!
5. You get a free all expenses paid vacation around the world. What 3 places do you want to visit most?
Scotland, Denmark and Italy
6. Least favorite classic film?
Gone With The Wind. I can't stand romance films and I certainly can't stand one that's 3 hours long and stars Vivien Leigh. I'm sorry I just don't get the appeal AT ALL
7. What is your favorite TV show?
at the moment it's Supernatural bc I think I'm still REALLY bitter about Matt Smith leaving Doctor Who but I'm sure I'll like Capaldi and my opinion will change yet again lol
8. If you could change one thing about yourself what would you change?
ONE?! Here's 5: I would make myself thin, I would make myself healthy (lbr thats prolly #1 bc I can't even eat food without feeling ill), Get rid of my surgery scars, get rid of my anxiety, get rid of my fear of intimacy
9. The first film you ever saw in theatres? (if you can’t remember: Favorite film from your childhood?)
I dunno about in theaters but I think Snow White was my first (yuck :/)
10. A celebrity you wish would just disappear already?
SO MANY. Shalene Woodley, Kim Kardashian, Benedict Cumberbatch, Channing Tatum, SETH ROGEN
11. If you could have been in (or on the set of) any movie what movie would it be?
Ladies In Retirement (1941). Ida Lupino, Louis Hayward, Elsa Lanchester and Charles Laughton also visited the set I just ahhhhh I would DIE
———
not tagging anyone bc I did this not too long ago and would tag the same people lol

Yes I’d agree. Her hair tended to be darker in the 20s than in the early 30s I found :)

I was tagged by the lovely belovedoldhollywood :)
Rule 1: Always post the rules. Rule 2: Answer the questions of the person who tagged you and write 11 new ones. Rule 3: Tag 11 new people and link them to the post. Rule 4: Let them know you’ve tagged them.
belovedoldhollywood's questions:
1) Imagine you get the chance to meet your favourite OH star. What’s your first reaction?  I would immediately think: ''How on earth do I not screw this up?'' Haha. I would try my best. 2) Do you still remember the movie that made you interested in OH? Which one was it? Of course- it was 'A Streetcar Named Desire' :) 3) Your OTP from an old movie? Oh gosh... it's either Stanley and Stella from Streetcar, or Terry and Edie from 'On the Waterfront'. Both are just wonderful. 4) Favourite movie from the year 1939? Well... GWTW is so epic but I have to go with 'Dark Victory' :) 5) Do you ship yourself with an old Hollywood actors/actress? :p Yes. With James Cagney :) 6) Who is your favourite OH star who is also still alive? (I wonder if anybody will answer with Mickey Rooney xD) Lauren Bacall, though I really really really love Kirk Douglas too!! :) (Ironically they are great friends and have known each other forever, Lauren also helped him get into Hollywood.:) ) 7) Does it make you angry too when people around your age say that old movies are boring? Yes, but I think it's their loss, and what a loss indeed. 8) Do some of your grandparents have some interesting OH-stories to tell? :3 Sadly no, they were always far away from that culture, especially since here the Soviet Union didn't let any culture from the west be known. But one of my friends' grandmother somehow knew about Clark Gable and loved him! :) 9) Do you own any autograph from a classic movie actor/actress? Yes, I own an autograph of Kim Hunter, which I cherish very much. :) 10) Do my questions annoy you? xD Nope, they're very good. :)
11) Did you get anything OH-related for christmas? :) Some things are ordered and they'll hopefully arrive soon :)
My questions:  1) Most overrated actor/actress from the 50s? 2) Most tragic death of all the Old Hollywood actors/actresses? 3) What classic film could you watch a million times and it still wouldn't get old? 4) What actor/actress comes to your mind that you would call a performer rather than a real actor? 5) Favorite pre-code film? :) 6) Favorite classic film actor who was named James? :) 7) Actor/actress who deserves a good biography? 8) Favorite silent film? :) 9) Has any classic film had a really big impact on your life? If so, which one? 10) Who do you think is the best director today? 11) Which film, in your opinion, from the 20th century could never, ever be done today? I'm tagging: simmonsing, 20th-century-darling, blanchefordubois, marilynmonroe1980,  leilahyams,  joyous2607, cathy-thangg, jdjoshvintage, iheartclassichollywood, oldhollywoodlovingteen, pleaseletyourselfgo
