20240507: the History of LEGO Castle day 128. 8777 Vladek Encounter (2004, 45 pieces, 23 different parts) The Vladek Encounter is the first in the Knights' Kingdom II subtheme and is a small catapult built on a black 4x6 plate with a light bluish gray, white, and black catapult mechanism. A black horse with a dark red horse helmet with dark red barding with silver print and a black scorpion is ridden by a knight wearing all black armor with a dark red lined print. There are two brand new minifigures in this set, and they represent an entire story focusing on these characters. -The first minifigure is Danju, with a dark purple full face visor on a dark purple helmet, a yellow minifigure head with light brown sideburns, mustache, goatee, and forehead "v", a plain dark purple torso with dark purple arms and light bluish gray hands, dark purple armor with a yellow geometric pattern, and dark purple legs with a light bluish gray belt. Danju carries a white rectangular shield with two purple howling wolves facing each other and a flat dark gold sword. This version of Danju is in 8777 Vladek Encounter and 8781 Castle of Morcia, as well as 31317 Save the Kingdom board game, while an updated version appears in 8876 Scorpion Prison Cave and 8877 Vladek's Dark Fortress, as well as 218066 Das Spiel (German), 218141 Le Jeu (French), and 218158 Knights Kingdom games. -The second minifigure is Vladek, with a black full face visor on a black helmet, a yellow minifigure head with black sideburns with white stripes, a small black forehead "v", black upside down "v" eyebrows, and black chin marks, a plain black torso with black arms and hands, black armor with a dark red geometric pattern, and black legs with a red belt. Vladek carries a red sword. This version of Vladek appears in 8777 Vladek Encounter, 8779 Grand Tournament, 8781 Castle of Morcia, 8800 Vladek's Siege Engine, and 851499 Chess, as well as 31317 Save the Kingdom board game, and an updated version appears in 8802 Dark Fortress Landing, 8876 Scorpion Prison Cave, and 8877 Vladek's Dark Fortress, as well as 218066 Das Spiel (German), 218141 Le Jeu (French), and 218158 Knights Kingdom games. Lord Vladek also shows up in 8823 Mistlands Tower. This set introduces light bluish gray in replacement of the light gray and dark bluish gray in replacement of the dark gray. All the minifigure pieces and accessories are new for this subtheme, as is the dark red horse barding, though this is the only set with this horse barding. The dark red horse helmet is found in five sets, 8777 Vladek Encounter, 8779 Grand Tournament, 8874 Battle Wagon, 851499 Chess, and 852001 Chess. The light bluish gray 1x2 dual-sided slope is only found in this set and 4856 Doc Ock's Hideout. 20240508: the History of LEGO Castle day 129. 8778 Border Ambush (2004, 180 pieces, 74 different parts) Border Amush shows the story of Santis, a knight with red decoration, and an encounter with a shadow knight in black armor across a rope bridge built on green 6x12 plates with stairs on one side with Santis and a launchable reddish brown rock over a green and dark orange rope bridge with a light and dark bluish gray castle wall built on top of a black trap door with a reddish brown Big Ugly Rock Piece (BURP). There are two brand new minifigures in this set, and they continue the story focusing on these characters. -Santis with a red helmet with a full red face visor, a yellow minifigure head with full, thick, black beard, mustache, and bangs, red geometric print armor, a plain red torso with dark bluish gray hands, red pants with a dark bluish gray belt, a red rectangular shield with a medium brown bear head on each end, and a pearl sand blue sword. This version of Santis is in 8778 Border Ambush, 8780 Citadel of Orlan, 8781 Castle of Morcia, and 8799 Knights Castle Wall, as well as 31317 Save the Kingdom board game, while an updated version appears in 8801 Knights Attack Barge (dark bluish gray hands), 8873 Fireball Catapult, and 8877 Vladek's Dark Fortress, as well as 218066 Das Spiel (German), 218141 Le Jeu (French), and 218158 Knights Kingdom games. -The shadow knight with a black angled cheek protection helmet, a yellow minifigure head with thick black "v" forehead print with space between the beard and sideburns, a black torso with a black scorpion on a dark red background, and black legs with a dark red belt. -Both minifigures and all accessories are completely new for this set. -The chrome silver key was only found in three sets, 4707 the Chamber of the Winged Keys, 5843 Queen Rose and the Little Prince Charming, and 8778 Border Ambush. -While the black scorpion was used in a variety of sets from Scala and Adventurers, this is the first scorpion introduced was in a castle set. -This set also introduced the sports minifigure soccer stand with a spring and green clip. -This is the first dark orange we've seen in castle. -Royal blue / blue violet pieces in this set include 1x2 bricks, 1x4 flags, a 1x2 inverted slope, and a 1x1 technic brick with center hole. 20240518: the History of LEGO Castle day 139. 8874 Battle Wagon (2005, 130 pieces, 60 different parts) Battle Wagon is a mostly black and dark red wagon pulled by a black horse with a dark red battle helmet and a dark red harness on reddish brown 4x4 circle bricks. The wagon itself has one large black 1x5x7.5 rectangular door on each side and the second story has dark gray 1x2x3 slopes holding up a reddish brown 1x8 plate with bucket catapult. The three minifigures for this set include the upgraded Rascus and two shadow knights. -Rascus has a green full face visor on a dark green helmet, a yellow minifigure head with black bangs and a black straight line goatee, a plain green torso with black hands, green armor with a gold monkey, and green legs with a dark green belt. Rascus carries a white triangular shield with a gold monkey on a green background and a flat dark gold angular sword. This version of Rascus is found in three sets (8801 Knights Attack Barge, 8874 Battle Wagon, and 8877 Vladek's Dark Fortress) and the three versions of the Knights Kingdom table top game (218066 Das Spiel in German, 218141 Le Jeu in French, and 218158 Multi-Language). -The two shadow knights have a black angled cheek protection helmet, a yellow minifigure head with thick black "v" forehead print with space between the beard and sideburns, a black torso with dark red arms and black hands, a black scorpion on a dark red background, and black legs with a dark red belt, and each carries a black halberd. New and unique parts for this set include: -The dark red horse hitching harness and the green horse battle helmet are both unique to this set. -The trans clear plastic scorpion banners were only found in four sets, 8802 Dark Fortress Landing, 8874 Battle Wagon, 8876 Scorpion Prison Cave, and 8877 Vladek's Dark Fortress. -The black 1x5x7.5 rectangular stockade door was only found in five sets, 6088 Robber's Retreat, 7419 Dragon Fortress, 8823 Mistlands Tower, 8874 Battle Wagon, and 8894 Piraka Stronghold. -The dark red horse helmet is found in five sets, 8777 Vladek Encounter, 8779 Grand Tournament, 8874 Battle Wagon, 851499 Chess, and 852001 Chess. -The pearl light gray 1x1 rocket was only found in five sets, 8101 Claw Crusher, 8108 Mobile Devastator, 8874 Battle Wagon, 8875 King's Siege Tower, and 8877 Vladek's Dark Fortress. -The dark bluish gray lance is only found in seven sets, 4997 Transport Ferry, 7038 Troll Assault Wagon, 8781 Castle of Morcia, 8874 Battle Wagon, 9762 First LEGO League Challenge 2005 Ocean Odyssey, 10134 Y-Wing Attack Starfighter, and 10144 Sandcrawler. -The reddish brown 1x8 plate with catapult bucket was found in nine sets, 7019 Viking Fortress Against Fafnir Dragon, 7029 Skeleton Ship Attack, 7040 Dwarves Mine Defender, 7041 Troll Battle Wheel, 7094 King's Castle Siege, 8813 Battle at the Pass, 8823 Mistlands Tower, 8874 Battle Wagon, and 70403 Dragon Mountain. -Royal blue / blue violet parts for this set include: 4x1 wave left flag.
