20240116: the History of LEGO Castle day 016. 6011-1 Black Knight's Treasure (1985, 27 pieces, 17 different parts) The Black Knight's Treasure is another in a long string of wagons and carts, but this set has a number of unique parts and is the first example of the hinged treasure chest, which becomes a staple item in LEGO sets. The wagon features a black horse with a yellow harness pulling a red wagon with brown wheels. The back of the cart features a light gray treasure chest with a yellow saddle attached to the back. The minifigure for this set is a Black Falcon soldier with the standard blue torso with black arms and the silver and black halved falcon on a triangular shield print, plain black legs, carrying a brown spear and wearing a black axe wielder helmet. I can't adequately express how excited I was when LEGO sets starting coming with treasure chests that actually *looked* liked treasure chests and had an opening lid and treasure inside and everything! Though, the Black Knight's Treasure chest is empty, but since this was the first treasure chest, I think that's okay. This set is the only set with a light gray treasure chest. Another part completely unique to this set is the yellow horse harness. Additionally, the red 2x2 turn-table plate with three hinge attachments was only found in five sets from 1985-1997 (9452-1 Giant LEGO Topic Set, 6054-1 Dragon Wagon, 6027-1 Bat Lord's Catapult, and 6799-1 Showdown Canyon). This is the first set in this History of LEGO Castle series where I have neither the box, nor the instructions. Thankfully, it's a very small set. Inventory for this set can be found on BrickLink or Rebrickable and a free download of the instructions can be found on ToysPeriod.

Films the Crows would like:
Kaz: Trainspotting, Kill Bill, The Killing of a Sacred Deer (even though I think it's bad), Gone Girl, Parasite, Snowpiercer, A clockwork orange, Citizen Kane, Sin City, The Dark Knight, Tarantino films, the Godfather, Come and See, V for Vendetta, Prisoners, Silence of tbe Lambs, No country for old men, City of God, Shawshank Redemption, Kubrick's and Hitchcock's work (except lolita bc that's gross), Hunger Games Trilogy, All of Aronofsky's work (Black Swan, Requiem for a dream etc.), Memories of Murder, Donnie Darko, Fight Club, Taxi Driver, Oldboy, Blade Runner 2049,
As for series he would like Breaking Bad, Death Note, Aot and Vinland Saga, Berserk maybe, Prison Break but like only the first two seasons and The Walking Dead.
Inej: Ladybird, Little Women, Anna Karenina, The Virgin Suicides, Marie Antoinette, Lost in Translation, Girl, Interrupted, Everything Everywhere all at once, Nomadland, The Florida Project, Alice in Wonderland (the Tim burton one), Hard Candy, In the Corner of this World, portrait of a lady on fire and Princess Mononoke. I can't really think of other ones to be honest.
I'm not really sure what series she would like. Maybe Ai Yazawa's animes? I'm not sure.
Jesper: Star Wars (the original trilogy and the prequels), Indiana Jones, Life of Brian, Ferris Bueller's Day off, American Pie, MIB, Terminator, Ghostbusters, Scream, Back to the future etc. He definitely likes fun adventure movies. Also a lot of animated movies like The Lego Movie and Lego Batman (masterpieces) and Pixar and Dreamwork's Movies (his favorites being Toy story and Shrek). Also Disney classics like treasure planet and Atlantis. Probably also western movies and he'd idolize Clint Eastwood.
Favorite Series are The Office, Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo etc.
Wylan: Perks of being a wallflower, Ladybird, Howl's moving castle, Billy Elliot, Your Name, Dead Poet's society, Stardust, Narnia, La La Land, Lotr trilogy (his comfort movies), Call me by your name and all of Wes Anderson's movies. I think he'd be secretly a huge filmnerd who also loves A24 movies, David Fincher, arthouse movies etc. But I think he would be a bit embarrassed by it.
His favorite series are Doctor Who (David Tennant Version because that's the best one), Fargo and Good Omens.
Nina: A sucker for romance and chick flicks, especially romantic comedies. The Notebook, Mamma Mia!, When Harry met Sally, Mean Girls, She's the Man, badly written Netflix romantic comedies,
She likes reality TV and desperate housewives, sex and the city, friends and modern family.
Matthias: 1917, Saving Private Ryan, All quiet on the western front, Hacksaw Ridge, The Notebook, Dunkirk, John Wick movies and other action movies. My taste is completely different so it's very difficult for me to think of other movies he would like.
I don't think he would watch a lot of series because it takes up a lot of time. Not the guy to concern himself with entertainment and media really but does enjoy a good story.
Feel free to criticize me or suggest other media. Maybe I should also make a list about the music they'd like?

Okay basic questions time before I get a bunch of anon asks
“Two of these are women.”
Father figures also count
“Some of these doesn’t have their own kids”
See point 1
“Why is there only a few characters from the same franchise going against each other but sometimes they aren’t”
Because I only recognized fire emblem, Pokémon, and JJBA at first.
“Aus doesn’t count”
As a previous undertale fan. I could care less. And I am not replacing Tim with BAMSE.
“Replace x with Bamse”
Sorry but. Findus and Skalman have already won. 3 times are a bit too much for us sweds.
“911 is copaganda”
You see Brooklyn 911 (picked by wheel) and you go against fireback mountain. Shame on you anon.
“Dad council these aren’t all random”
Yeah but Neon J vs Wubbox = chaos
Code of conduct

Hey, LEGO fans! Have you heard about the latest set that celebrates 90 years of LEGO history? It's the Lion Knights' Castle (10305), an amazing tribute to the original castle set from 1984 and one of the most requested builds by fans for years. If you love medieval themes, knights, castles, and dragons, you won't want to miss this one!
The Lion Knights' Castle is a new interpretation inspired by the classic LEGO Castle System, which was first introduced in the late 1970s and lasted until 1997. The Castle System was one of the core themes of LEGO, along with Town and Space, and it featured different factions of knights, such as Crusaders, Black Falcons, Forestmen, Wolfpack, Dragon Masters, Royal Knights, Fright Knights, and more. The Castle System also included many iconic sets like 375 Castle (the Yellow Castle), 6080 King's Castle (the Grey Castle), 6074 Black Falcon's Fortress (the Blue Castle), and 6086 Black Knight's Castle (the Black Castle).
The Lion Knights' Castle is a homage to all these sets and more. It has over 4500 pieces and measures over 15 in. (39 cm) high, 18 in. (46 cm) wide and 13 in. (34 cm) deep. It features a stunning castle with four towers connected by walls and gates, a drawbridge that can be raised and lowered with a crank, a secret entrance behind a waterfall, a dungeon with a skeleton prisoner, a throne room with stained glass windows and banners, a treasure room with gold coins and jewels, an armory with weapons and armor racks, a library with books and scrolls, a fireplace with light brick function that flickers when pressed down on it.
The castle also comes with 21 minifigures: six Lion Knights (including King Leo), six Dragon Knights (including Lord Vladek), four Forestmen (including Robin Hood), two Wolfpack Renegades (including Wilfred Wolfpack), two peasants (a farmer and his wife), an archer girl who can be either Maid Marian or Princess Storm from Nexo Knights theme depending on how you swap her hairpiece. There are also three animals: a horse for King Leo to ride on his jousting tournament against Lord Vladek; an eagle for Robin Hood to send messages; and of course - what castle would be complete without one -a dragon for Lord Vladek to unleash on his enemies!
The set is packed with surprises around every corner. You can recreate epic battles between Lion Knights and Dragon Knights using catapults that fire projectiles; you can explore hidden passages behind bookcases or paintings; you can find secret compartments under floor tiles or inside statues; you can discover ancient relics like Excalibur or Nexo Power Shields; you can even make your own stories using stickers that let you customize your minifigures' faces or shields.
The Lion Knights' Castle is not only an awesome display piece but also an incredible playset that will spark your imagination for hours. It's available now at LEGO.com for $299.99 USD / $399.99 CAD / £249.99 GBP / €279.99 EUR / $499 AUD / $549 NZD   . Don't miss this chance to own this piece of LEGO history!
What do you think of this set? Are you going to buy it? Which faction do you support? Let me know in the comments below!

Arrr! So I started to post more pics from the Pirates of Barracuda Bay project last weekend, but Tumblr shanghaied 3/4 of the post when I did a ctrl-Z to change something, and then it wouldn't give it back when I tried to re-do it. Which made me mad, so I walked away from it. Anyway, here's some more pictures I took of the completed set!
Tumblr media
First off, here's the group shot of the minifigs, m'boy Captain Redbeard and his scurvy crew of buccaneers! I especially appreciated the inclusion of two badass pirate queens who you won't convince me aren't girlfriends.
Tumblr media
According to the lore, the flaxy-haired queen with the tricorn is Robin Loot, a trigger-happy psycho who delights in the smell of blood and gunpowder. The regal-looking one with the Asami Sato hair is Lady Anchor, a cold-blooded and ruthlessly efficient swashbuckler who's Redbeard's first mate. According to my head-canon they make a brutal and terrifying team, but their relationship and sex-life are both healthy.
Tumblr media
I dug out and repaired the old Renegade's Runner from storage just to tinker with. Here's a decent shot to give an idea of the scale of this outpost.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The right-hand side is what my brother calls the 'pirate-themed B&B,' with bunks and a mini bar. The gunnery deck sits above it with a jail and obligatory skeleton to the back.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The center part leads to a kitchen with a storage area below. I loved that it included a lot of the food and utensils similar to the kitchens in the blacksmith's shop and Lion Knight's Castle.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Redbeard gets his own cabin in the center part of the base. From here he plots his latest raids against Imperial shipping. Comes with maps, treasures, a bust, and fold-out bed.
Tumblr media
So, also according to the lore, the ship that the hideout is build from is intended to be the Black Sea Barracuda, the original Lego Pirates' ship from the '80s. The Barracuda was the Lego that every kid from my generation never got for Christmas but knew someone who knew someone who had it. So I love that the directions give the option to rebuild her in her former glory:
Tumblr media
It takes a few minutes to convert it from hideout to brigantine and almost twice as long to convert it back, but it looks so freaking cool both ways. I like it a little better as a ship, but the hideaway is still neat enough that I love it both ways.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I kind of want a second one now so I can have it both ways (or have a second brigantine to serve as a sister ship to the first!).
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I also dug out and repaired the old Imperial Flagship, though the poor little sloop is badly outclassed by the two-masted pirate.
Tumblr media
The set unfortunately didn't come with enough cannons. But I know where there's a used Lego store that has parts and minifigs where I might be able to find spare cannons for the gunnery deck.
Anyway, thanks for reading and for indulging my hobby, folks!
Pirates of Barracuda Bay
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hey, so here's the new Lego project I mentioned I was working on! Like the Lion Knights' Castle, the Pirates of Barracuda Bay was clearly designed by and for fans from the '80s and '90s, even going to far as to include my dude Captain Redbeard and his scurvy crew. I love that it looks like it's made from a wrecked pirate ship, and I almost immediately wondered if you can take it apart and build a ship out of it. Sure enough you can, and it even comes with instructions for converting it:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And now I'm really freaking torn whether to keep it as a ship or turn it back into the hideaway... Anyway, I love how it turned out, and I'll post more pics when I get a chance!

A Buncha Boneheads (Final)
Originally posted on My Patreon (Follow the link to see the full image)
Well, after drawing 88 different skeletal characters, here it is, the full series of "A Buncha Boneheads"! I was originally going to try and sell this as a poster but after looking into it, I don't think I can do that unless I want to deal with several dozen copyright laws.
This was quite the fun little exercise for me- the biggest challenge was trying to emulate the art styles of so many different series and properties. There are definitely more skull-headed characters out there that I could add, but frankly I think a nice even 88 is good enough, and there are other projects I want to work on for the future. Overall I'm pretty proud of this.
With that said, let me know if I've made a spelling mistake or something anywhere on here- I've tried my best but I just know I missed one or two somewhere.
The full list of characters is written below:

20240306: the History of LEGO Castle day 066. 6048 Majisto's Magical Workshop (1993, 188 pieces, 66 different parts) Majisto's Magical Workshop is built on two thin 8x16 baseplates attached by a hinge to close the building. The inside of the workshop contains a brown treasure chest with transparent red and green 1x1 circle plates (also known as studs), a white 2x2 printed magic scroll tile, a small cooking pot on a fire, and a light gray 2x4 brick functioning as a table with two transparent clear goblets. The bulk of the set is built on top of two dark gray 4x10x6 rectangular Big Ugly Rock Panels (BURPs) with light gray and black highlights. When closed, the workshop has no doors or other way into the workshop, but there are two blue 1x2x2 window shutters on display in the front. The roof is composed of large red plates with black highlights. This set includes two minifigures. The first minifigure is Majisto with a blue wizard hat with a white beard, black plastic cape, blue torso with blue arms and a yellow v-neck with a black belt and yellow buckle and a small brown pouch, plain blue legs, and a glow-in-the-dark wand. The second minifigure has a black dragon helmet with just the right and left blue dragon plumes, a yellow minifigure head with wavy black eyebrows, mustache, and goatee, a red torso with blue arms, printed silver shoulder covers, and a standing yellow and black halved dragon on a black and red background with black legs and a red belt. This is one of only six castle sets to use the black 3x1x3.33 slope with studs (6048 Majisto's Magical Workshop, 6075-1 Wolfpack Tower, 6078 Royal Drawbridge, 6079 Dark Forest Fortress, 6082 Fire Breathing Fortress, 6090 Royal Knight's Castle), and while it's one of my favorite pieces, it's not very common. Majisto's Magical Workshop also uses two of the blue dragon plumes as front decoration for the building, which are only found in this set, 6086 Black Knight's Castle, and 6105 Medieval Knights. This is one of only four total sets to use the 4x8x2.33 dark gray castle turret top (6046 Hemlock Stronghold, 6048 Majisto's Magical Workshop, 6094 Guarded Treasury, 6097 Night Lord's Castle) and the ovoid green dragon shield is only found in 12 sets. I've now arrived at the sets that I have owned for some time but never built, so this is my first time building them. This set was interesting to me because of the recent gift with purchase remake, which caused a big stir in the LEGO Castle fandoms. (I still haven't built that one, either). So some of this set is really neat, like the actual inside of the workshop with the ladder to the second floor and the fire with the pot and the table. It's a cozy workshop and if you think about it being actually underground, maybe in a cave or something, it's pretty neat, minus the open air roof situation. But on the other hand, I felt like there were some really fragile parts while building that didn't feel as stable while I was building them but definitely locked in place once the turret pieces were added. I also think I'm still pretty annoyed at how this entire subtheme is clearly intended for a male-only audience and there are no women in this subtheme. Overall, it is pretty fun, though. Parts inventory for this set can be found on BrickLink or Rebrickable and a free download of the instructions can be found on ToysPeriod.
