The credits roll and it was a movie that left me deep in thought. I don’t want to move. The afterglow is so exquisite, my mind is so in tuned to something beyond where I am, this theatre, this chair, this building, I don’t want to break the spell. So I sit and let the experience and it’s lessons linger. Others have left and are leaving. My boyfriend waits. He knows this is what I do. He used to look at me and say “Are you ok? Are you ready? Let’s go now.”. Not anymore. He waits and often joins me in this revelry.

Recently Dr. Wayne Dyer passed away. Even more recently, activist and Native American poet John Trudell left this world as well. I don’t want to move. I don’t want the spell they wove upon my mind and spirit during their lives and with their words to be broken. I want to sit here and keep the connection to that which they connected me to. I understand that the stage has gone dark and the key player has left. The mic stands silent and the crowd has gone home. But I am still here. I cannot just turn and go about my life without acknowledging that what just happened was beautiful and big and amazing. I cannot gather my purse and candy wrappers and mumble about where we should eat now that it’s over. I cannot because I am not the same person as I was when I came in to their presence and I cannot treat this as just another meaningless event. 

I will turn and go back into my life but first I will linger just long enough to know that the words spoken, the wisdom imparted the vision shared will settle around me and over me and in me so in some way I will carry it past this venue and into my world. The stage may be empty but the story may not be over.
