Far-right Christians really do the Bible a disservice by treating it as a book God dictated and had wrote down for him. It's a living document, ever evolving just as Christianity has. It's an imperfect work written by imperfect people talking about the perfect God within the context of their time and culture. I really want to make a project out of rereading my Bible and reading it that way.
Edit: I’ve read the reblogs on this post, and I’d like to apologize for saying this. I’m a teenager, and still learning about the Bible in a more in depth way. I’d like to thank you guys for all the reblogs- I’ve learned a lot.

Me after rereading st Paul’s authentic epistles after years of blaming him for homophobia and misogyny in the church (I have since then educated myself on the sociocultural context of the time period he was writing in):
Tumblr media
Like this dude was friends with multiple women whom he gave tremendous respect to, while highlighting how important they were within the growing Jesus movement (see: Junia, whom he calls "outstanding among the apostles", deacon Phoebe, church leader Chloe, Prisca- who might’ve been the author of the book of hebrews - etc.) He told men in a society in which women were viewed as objects "of course your wife is your property 🥰 but as her husband, you are *her* property as well!" And he tried to fix the double standard of wives being considered unfaithful if they slept with someone else vs husbands being able to bang as many people as they wanted (regardless of how the missus felt about it) by calling male cheaters "sexually immoral". He ALSO nearly threw hands with Peter when he expressed hesitation at eating with non Jews (inclusive king). He criticized the Roman empire and challenged Caesar’s legitimacy by claiming Christ as Lord. And ofc came up with the absolute banger of a line that is "There is no longer Jew or Greek; there is no longer slave or free; there is no longer male and female, for all of you are one in Christ Jesus".
I am no longer a Paul hater, but now a Paul defender.

If there's one thing I hate, it's when conservative Christians use their subpar understanding of the Bible to justify bigotry and hatred.
If there's ANOTHER thing I hate, it's when atheist spew the same rhetoric.
Just Because You're An Atheist! It Doesn't Mean You Inherently Have Good Biblical Literacy!
Obviously it's great that you don't believe the same bigotry and hatred as the conservative Christians... however, you're still agreeing with their understanding of God?
You still are not putting the Bible into it's cultural and historical context! There are plenty of things in the bible that do not and should not be applied to the context of today.
When you agree that the Christian God hates queer people, trans people, supports slavery, and genocide. Guess what? That helps absolutely no one.
You aren't smart because you are incapable of separating the church as an institution (that has 100% caused harm) and the core values of what Christianity actually is (LOVE THY NEIGHBOUR!).
When you say that God hates gay people from your atheist perspective, I understand that isn't a bother to you as you don't believe in God. When queer Christians who DO believe in God (AND have queer, religious trauma) hear you say that, it can be so hurtful and insensitive.
You are simply spitting the same harmful rhetoric as the conservative Christians, but without the belief in God.

My (soon to be ex) spouse and I have separated and I've been able to freely practice my faith again without fear and it's been so wonderful and warm. My first full day completely on my own was Easter Sunday, and as I've incorporated more of my faith into my day to day life I've been rewarded tenfold.
I started adding scripture to my daily to-do lists and spend a few minutes each day studying and contemplating the verse(s) I've selected. I find it always winds up helping me at some point during the day. The first afternoon of a day I spent with scripture, my dog had to go outside at the perfect time for me to see my first rainbow of 2025:

Several days later, I began making the effort to pray every day, as opposed to simply when I'm afraid/in deep need of comfort. Before I knew it, I'd fallen back in the habit of sending little prayers throughout the day. I went for a walk with a friend and we came across a butterfly fresh from its chrysalis, drying its wings in the sun and allowing me to photograph it:

I'm so grateful to God for reminding me of his presence at such an uncertain time, and I thank Him for rewarding my return to my faith 💜

Obligatory Pinned Post
Hey y'all I'm Madeline (she/her). I've created this blog as a way to document my reconstruction journey. I hope that as I write and think that someone who also believed they had to leave because either they are queer or questioning or lost someone dear to them can resonate with my story.
This is a side blog, and I will follow from an old main account called linniewritesficz.
While I often contemplate going to seminary, I only have a minor in Religious Studies. I do not claim to be an expert or a clergy person and will not operate as such.
I believe in therapy, but I am not a therapist. I will attempt to offer advice when I see fit but please always seek out a professional.
I am about to begin the process of getting confirmed in the Episcopal church! While the trauma I experienced in my teenage years is still there, I haven't felt true acceptance like the kind I feel in my local church. I'm really excited to join it.
I am also a practitioner/mystic/witch and am learning how to syncretize that practice into my re-emerging faith. I'm reading a lot about St. Hildegard at the moment.
I am queer. It is a big part of my identity. This is a pro queer pro trans blog, and I will not tolerate any form of homophobia or transphobia.
This is also a pro choice, pro palestine, pro BIPOC, leftist blog. I believe in healthy discourse and respectful discussion, however zionism, islamaphobia, anti semitism, racism, or any hatred/discrimination for people who are historically marginalized will not be tolerated.
I'm so excited to engage on this journey and document it in a way that makes sense for me. I hope to connect with like-minded people and find the community I needed a long time ago.

Come now, you rich people, weep and wail for the miseries that are coming to you. Your riches have rotted, and your clothes are moth-eaten. Your gold and silver have rusted, and their rust will be evidence against you, and it will eat your flesh like fire. You have laid up treasure during the last days. Listen! The wages of the laborers who mowed your fields, which you kept back by fraud, cry out, and the cries of the harvesters have reached the ears of the Lord of hosts.
some verses from James 5 to keep in your heart this International Workers' Day and Feast of Saint Joseph the Worker <3

The American evangelical movement is such a Thing because despite placing so much emphasis on the apocalyptic stuff, the way apocalyptic Bible stories describe false prophets is ridiculously accurate to megachurches and shit. Satan moves through the folding chairs, makes people believe in sending their gay kids to Hell more than even the concept of Heaven

What I'm about
I was raised conservative Evangelical and I have had a long and difficult spiritual journey. I was taught a lot of harmful things that's I've had to unlearn, I've wrestled and doubted, I've somehow managed to create a version of my faith that makes me feel fulfilled.
Being a Christian fills me with meaning and reassurance but it's also difficult. If nothing else I believe that my faith is bigger than the petty small-minded people who taught me.
I'm here looking for community - there aren't many Christians who share my particular views and there aren't many other people who share my faith, but maybe I'll be able to find some of you through this.
I study esotericism and Christian occultism, I have radical leftist politics, and I am a trans woman and a lesbian. If any of that somehow makes you want to talk to me please reach out.
I'm going to use this blog to connect with people, to journal about my faith, and to share my ongoing studies. There will be venting.
God bless.

Something that I've been learning to do is be more open and proud about my Christianity. I've always been hesitant because the loudest Christian voices are those Evangelical conservatives and I've been scared to be associated with them or make people feel the way they make me feel (very negatively).
But then I remember how it felt when I heard loving, progressive Christians speak. I was so desperate to hear their voices and it filled me with such a deep sense of comfort.
At the end of the day I will never say the same things those Evangelical conservative Christians say. I want to be that voice for others like me. I want them to know there are people who think like them.
I've noticed that no one seems to mind when I share my personal religious perspectives (aside from the aforementioned conservative Christians). In fact, they find it to be a breath of fresh air.
My voice HAS to be louder than those bigoted Christians. I have to share these words of radical love 10x more than they'll share their xenophobic rhetorics.
