Here is the pattern and info for my Hollow Knight layered cross stitch, if you'd like to make one yourself!

Total canvas size is 92 W x 64 H.

Images 3 to 6 are the layers from back to front.

The black outline from the plastic canvas will be the black outline around the sections, instead of actual stitches (see this post).

The dark grey bars at the bottom are filler stitches with a random neutral colour. I did this to keep the thickness of the whole layer consistent, even if it's a bit extra work.

In between each layer, I glued a piece of mounting board to give the layers depth.

  Final Thoughts: I'm always so thrilled with Quilty Box and love how my stash is growing with such beautiful colors and designs. This box had 3!!! projects so you can work on one of the smaller ones for now and plan for the larger one when you have free time.

I finally found some metallic thread that isn’t obnoxious! I had started with the two on the right, DMC silver thread (which is basically a filament wrapped around a polyester thread core) and Kreinik Metallics blending filament in gold, which is like layers of tinsel. Both of these fray badly when I’m working, and I’ve had to resort in dipping the ends in glue to prevent fraying, especially the Kreinik. (You can see my beeswax block in the background, but it wasn’t enough.)

But now I’m a big believer in anything Cosmo by Lecien, and I love these Nishikiito threads on the left. The 01-23 range (like my pale gold one) are filament over a thread core, 4 strands that you can separate if you want; the strands might untwist from each other, but the metallic filament does not seem to fray from the core, hooray! The 24-33 (like my blue one) is more filmy, less thready than the other (but more thready than the tinselly Kreinik). And it’s more sparkly. It does fray a bit, so I’m still glueing the ends. I love both of these two kinds but I prefer the 01-23 range. For me it feels more enjoyable to sew with, and I like separating the threads to use one at a time.

Oh wow, I just saw that they have variegated colors and my heart hurts; I’m going to need them all.
