i think the thing is that i've been watching sooo much television that feels like fanfiction but BORING lately (star trek, the leapboot, etc) that gomens2 is like. yes this is undeniably a fanfiction season. but it's the kind of fanfiction i read. the kind of fanfiction i enjoy. so of course im riding thru the city having a fucking blast baby. it may not be "good" tv but its tv for ME

Here's an update on my collage of Ian's Al-fits. Added the cute af big-tie getup from NBC's Instagram stories, as well as the one outfit we see them in in the new stills from next week's ep.

Missing: two looks from the "This Season" promo that played at the end of the NBC broadcast. One looks to be the big-tie, but with a white blazer added. The other has a tan blazer with a very colorful tie.

Is it any surprise that the Al/Dean fan in me gravitated almost immediately to Ian, even just back when all we had was a little blurb from the casting call?

➠ last show/movie: let's see, last night i put on fantasy high sophomore year (dimension 20 season) to fall asleep to, which is the sequel season to fantasy high and is my comfort season

movie i last watched was Cover Girl (1944), which i honestly was kinda blown away by after this latest rewatch. there were lines that jumped out to me in the book that i hadn't caught before and the friendship between our three leads of gene kelly, rita hayworth, and phil silvers is one of my favorite parts. watch this dance clip that's truly incredible and groundbreaking of gene kelly dancing with an alter ego of himself

➠ currently watching: A million things lmao, in the middle of rewatches of Quantum Leap, Elementary, and then catching up on Bob's Burgers, watching It's Always Sunny for the first time, then have my weekly shows of Perry Mason, Quantum Leap (leapboot), Abbott Elementary, and Ghosts, along with Neverafter and other Dropout shows. I will not put links here, this is your break, lmao

➠ currently reading: I just finished the book couplet of Once & Future and Sword in the Stars by A.R. Capetta & Cory McCarthy. I have a stack of Arthurian literature I've been meaning to get through from the library as well as the Adventure Zone comics

➠ current obsession: Hmmm, I guess I've been mostly on an Arthurian kick lately? Excited for baseball to get into season (especially since I'll be getting MLB for free thanks to t-mobile next Tuesday ahaha) oh! And Irish history has made the cycle back in as well

oop, okay, so one of the blue unknown is actual 24 April 1979 (for yesterday's leapboot ep)

as i've been running the daily al calavicci twitter over the last couple months, i've noticed some dates have popped up several time and thought i'd track the frequency of dates!

notably, the only two dates that were used three times in the show are Al's birthday (June 15) and Sam's birthday (August 8th), with 8 August 1955 actually being used twice - once in the first season and once in the fifth season

i also included leapboot, although there are two episodes so far that don't have an actual date assigned to them, just a year. og show is the magenta and leapboot is the electric blue within the spreadsheet

Something I’ve been thinking about a lot lately is Sam being able to control his leaps following “Mirror Image” (knowing that he’s the one ping-ponging himself across existence, not anybody or anything else) and how much control he’d potentially have over them. I think as he gets more used to the idea, he might be able to leap at will, maybe even to certain specific dates and to certain specific events that have happened and what the ramifications of that might be...

the harbinger.

the harbingers have been through fire. you've got the scars to show for it. some people say harbingers are jaded- scary, even, to people who don't understand that the harbinger has seen the edge of the world and survived it. but being the harbinger means you're cursed to watch younger, brighter eyes fall for the same traps you did. trying to help isn't enough for you; you know what they're getting themselves into, and you want to protect them the way no one ever protected you, so why won't they just listen? it's frustrating. it's terrifying. no one should have to live through what you did, and i hope you know that you can't protect everyone but it's damn noble of you to try. it's not your job to save the world but i hope you know you've already made a difference to everyone who has taken your words to heart.

Anon my beloved you have no idea the can of worms you’ve just opened so let me tell you about a little something called the leapboot

So a while back me and my beloved friend @augustheart were watching quantum leap when we started brainstorming what a hypothetical quantum leap reboot and it nested in our brains like a bird and it refuses to leave.

So the basic idea that it’s a modern reboot on like cbs where all the 80s reboot shows are with the “modern” part taking place probably ten years before now like the original was. Sam is still roughly the same except he’s a lot more misogynistic and a lot less likable and kind. Al is a problematic pansexual girlboss who’s dating Tina and is constantly cheating on them with men but is also in love with Sam she’s still an admiral but she’s somehow younger than Sam. We have no set casting for either of them but we like to joke that it will be grant gustin for Sam so we can get cameos from cw actors

Highlights of the leapboot include:

The episode where Sam tries to stop 9/11 and accidentally causes it (I don’t think cbs would actually let it air but man it’s so funny that I can’t bare to get rid of it)

Homage to fbi shows where Sam leaps into an FBI agent post 9/11 and has to teach them that not all Middle Eastern people are evil!! Just this specific group are the evil ones that are the worlds biggest stereotypes

The evil leapers being introduced probably season 2 season 3 as overarching bas guys and being played by the McElroys

Episode that’s supposed to be an homage to the leap home part one and part two. Scott Bakula comes back to play Sams dad in either that same terrible old age make up or de aging cgi and instead of Sams brother dying in vietnam it’s Sams sister dying in Afghanistan because feminism. Part two has Sam going to Afghanistan and saving her and it’s incredibly poorly handled

Tina is non binary and Gooshie is a wheelchair user because they’re #woke but they still get negative screen time and tinas just woman lite™️

Episode where Scott Bakula comes back again but this time he plays like an angel or something and he keeps hinting at it and Sam is just a not catching them at all

I’m sure there’s some I’m missing and I’m sure fern will be able to add some but let me tell you we think about it all the time. I do and I don’t think their should be a reboot but if there ever is it will be terrible I mean just fucking awful
