lucanis is a 'I could sit in our quiet kitchen on a grey tuesday afternoon drinking coffee and talking with you about nothing much in particular forever and be the happiest man who ever lived' romantic, not a 'classic tropes and grand gestures' romantic. this is a distinction and conceptual gap I personally feel is crucial to understanding what's going on with him when romanced. for all his almost painful sincerity and clear depth of feeling he's not a very effusive guy by nature, but in the history of time no one has ever, with their whole soul, chest and being, been so genuinely and openly happy to just do laundry and taxes with you.

okay i will admit it: i don't like 431 from a narrative standpoint (or really any standpoint) but if you view it exclusively as the true epilogue in an alternate universe of mha in which 5 year old katsuki is right about deku looking down on him and doing everything to spite him and wanting to bring about his downfall then the whole thing becomes kind of absurdly funny

Okay, it's wild that canonically Mei Nianqing only taught Xie Lian how to avoid the temptation of women. Even if you ignore whatever he has going on with Jun Wu, he had to have been around long enough to see plenty of queer relationships before he taught Xie Lian. You could argue that he clocked Xie Lian as ace (I head cannon him to be demi), but then why did he teach him how to avoid women? He doesn't seem explicitly homophobic. Just classist. His main issue with Hua Cheng was first that he was a street rat born under an unlucky star and then that he was a ghost king. Like when I first saw that Xie Lian was only taught about heterosexual relationships I dismissed it because heteronormativity is going to do its thing, but then we meet Mei Nianqing in the story's modern day and it didn't make nearly as much sense.

One of the things I just love so much about the Smallville fandom is that we've all just agreed that regardless of who you're pairing him with, Lex Luthor is a fucking Sex God.

It's particularly interesting because the show barely gives us ANYTHING to support this. We have one (1) Lex sex scene, plus one deleted scene, and while they're both hot, they're not at all spectacular. Zero characters, including Lex himself, discuss his sexual prowess (or lack thereof). And yet somehow, every single fic I've read (and written!) paints him as absolute dynamite in the sack.

Don't get me wrong: I'm not disagreeing or complaining about this! I fully support Sex God Lex Luthor (as evidenced by my inclusion of my own writing). I just find it SO interesting that we've collectively decided it. I feel like it's a competency kink sort of thing: Lex is shown to be someone who is generally very successful at everything he puts his mind to, so it does track that he'd be good at sex too. I don't know what, if anything, the comics have to say about his skills, so I can't draw any conclusions from that side of things.

I just adore the fact that we all looked at Lex Luthor in Smallville canon and went "yup, that guy FUCKS."
