I’m thrilled to have my poem “Blue Ice, Lake Wonish, 1935” included in the gorgeous @canadianpoets anthology, ‘Heartwood: Poems for the Love of Trees.’ The poem is the first of my manuscript-in-progress inspired by the life and art of Beaver Hall Group member, Anne Savage, to be published. Really proud to be holding a contributor copy of @canadianpoets’s beautiful, hand-stitched chapbook on mental health and resiliency, ‘You are a flower growing off the side of a cliff.’ Swipe to read my featured poem “Work in Progress.” I struggle with how much or how little to share as someone who lives with a chronic mental illness. On the one hand I strive be an advocate and help support others who find themselves struggling. On the other hand, I tend to worry about oversharing and how I’ll be perceived. The stigma of living with a mental illness is still very real. But being a part of a publication like this with others who have been able to open up about their truths has been much appreciated and helpful. I truly feel so honoured to be included in volume two of this chapbook anthology. Thank you to editor @rayanne_haines and the League of Canadian Poets for the chance to be a part of this project. One of the exercises he had us do was to take a completed poem of ours and he had us rewrite the poem backwards, meaning writing the last stanza first and so on.
