SwynWriMo Day Sixteen – Character #Inspo

Kleopatra Schreiber's Character Blueprints

Okay, so, I was excited to do this for Kleo because I am still kind of feeling out her personality. And I am SO pleased with how this turned out, because I think it captures all the aspects that she is and how they kind of work together.

Characters: Georgianna Darcy (from P&P), Baby (from Dirty Dancing), Beth March (from Little Women), Mary Margaret Charming aka Snow White (from OUAT), Blue Sargent, Sun-Hwa Kwon (from Lost), Rose Dewitt Bukater (from Titanic), Cora Crowley (from Downton Abbey), Cosette (from Les Miserables)

The first row is called "soff blonde girls" and the second row is called "soff brunette girls" and the third row is "ladies in big hats <3". Anyway, the vibe is really "little sisters" and "soff girls" with a little bit of "rebellion and sass" sprinkled in. If I wasn't lazy, I'd redo this aesthetic so Baby and Beth were swapped, so the diagonal would be the spicy, sassy characters that Kleo takes after: Rose, Baby, Blue.

The bottom row also highlights Kleo's upperclass lifestyle, which I feel like is a big part of her personality. Way more than I meant for it to be! But her family is well-known and in the government, and her family has a lot of pride in their family and their sorcery.

Blue, on her own, is the only character that I put on here that I didn't get taking the quiz. (All the other characters are 80% or more of a match, with Georgianna being 88% and her top match.) But, Blue was really important because her and her family really gave me the final piece of Blue's story that I needed. I wanted Clio for a really long time before I got her but I couldn't decide what I wanted her backstory to be, and I also always imagined her older.

When I read the Raven Cycle, I found Blue's eclectic family to be so fun and then I considered a younger Clio discovering her magic and the rest just kind of domino'ed into place. In personality, I don't think she shares tooooo much with Blue, but the extended family is heavily inspired by that. (As were my one shots lol.)

Anyway, I didn't do this task properly but oh well. <3

Musical Theatre Themed Ask

Okay, I’m gonna answer... all of these! (Because I have a paper to write and zero motivation. And also: musicals.)

Oh, and by the way, I’m going to assume that every “Broadway” is a “Broadway/West End” because Tumblr is a free platform.

1. What was the first musical you saw?

Mary Poppins, West End, 2006 (not 100% sure about the year)

2. What musical got you really  into theatre?

Les Misérables - saw the film, started stalking the actors, you know how it goes.

3. Who was your first Broadway crush?

Aaron Tveit (he’s the main one) and Samantha Barks - like I said, stalking the Les Mis actors...

4. Name three of your current Broadway crushes.

Um... still Aaron Tveit? Plus Rob Houchen (Les Mis London) and Cleve September (In the Heights London and soon Hamilton London) - Also, I get “talent crushes” not physical attraction crushes.

5. Name four of your dream roles.

Only 4? Natalie Goodman, Enjolras, Maureen Johnson, and HERCULES MULLIGAN!!

Gotta be Hamilton, it’s just such a well-produced album. Bonus points for including nearly the entire show.

Broadway: I guess Hamilton - There are way too few that I actually know.

West End: Les Misérables forever!

10. A musical that closed and you’re still bitter about. Rant a bit.

In the Heights London! Though I can’t really complain, they extended their initially run several times and now they’ve cast my amazing Sonny as Laurens/Philip, so... But it was just so good!!

11. Best stage to screen adaptation?

Les Misérables. Controversial, I know, but I usually kind of hate movie musicals. With this one they did something new and different and I think it works. The Last Five Years is pretty good too, though it lost a lot in the adaptation (couldn’t be avoided).

12. Worst  stage to screen adaptation?

Rent. I’m sorry, I love the show, I love the cast, but it all feels so staged and wrong and meh. Also, they cut Goodbye Love and left in fucking Santa Fé which adds exactly nothing to the plot!!

13. Favourite #ham4ham?

Gotta be the Schuyler Georges, but there have been so many great ones...

14. A musical you would love to see produced by Deaf West?

Oh, tricky... Maybe Next to Normal? That has a lot to do with people holding things in and failing to see each others’ struggles.

15. If you could revive any musical, which one would it be and who would you cast in it?

Not exactly a revival, but bring Next to Normal to the West End already! That show’s got a sodding Pulitzer. And London’s only a 2 hour flight away from where I live, not a transatlantic one, so I might actually be able to go see it.

Oh, and give Spring Awakening another chance, West End. Maybe adapt some American Sign Language into British Sign Language and...?

Also, maybe revive Rent, Broadway? (And cast Aaron Tveit as Roger... please?)

16. If you could go to a concert at the 54 below, who’s would it be?

That list would be waaaaaayyy too long...

17. Do you watch broadway.com vlogs? Which one is your favourite?

I’ve seen a few, but I don’t really watch them on a regular basis, so no favourites...

18. Make a Broadway related confession.

I really, really hate South Pacific. It was part of our American drama syllabus, as an example of a musical. Quite apart from the fact that I think it’s a godawful, sort of racist and sexist show (it’s from the 40s, go figure), it displays LITERALLY EVERY cliché about musicals!

19. What do musicals mean to you?

Hard to say... Apart from hours and hours of ALL the emotions, some awesome internet buddies (looking at you, @frei-und-schwerelos), I’ve got generally more interested in and knowledgable about theatre, which is a great asset when you study English. Musicals have also introduced me to a wide range of music I wouldn’t normally listen to and so many talented people I wouldn’t have known about otherwise...

20. Express some love for understudies and swings!

Okay here goes: I went to see the West End production of Memphis because of Killian Donnelly and then he unexpectedly wasn’t on that night - bummer. But then Jon Robyns just knocked it out of the part (and I only ever listened to Avenue Q and Spamalot because I watched clips of him when he was in those shows).

My first Thénardier was Adam Pearce and his version of “It was me wot told you so...” is the funniest one I’ve ever heard (he kind of went “No? Sorry, fair enough.”).

The second time I saw the show Adam Bayjou was Valjean and his Bring Him Home was one of the best I’ve ever heard (effortless high notes).

Also, Charlotte Kennedy was Cosette that time (she’s principal Cosette now) and her performance was so incredibly sweet! (She also brought some brunette power into the sea of blond that were Marius and Éponine.)

And Jordan Lee Davies was Bamatabois both times and he was great!

Oh, and my Christine from Phantom was the wonderful Lisa-Anne Wood.

21. Best Disney musical:

Mary Poppins - My first ever musical, fond memories, I still wear the Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious shirt my dad bought me (11 years ago... didn’t fit then, fits now).

22. Which Disney movie should be made into a musical?

Uh, I don’t know. Tangled’s funny...

23. Which musical fandom has the funniest memes?

Hamilton and Les Mis. I mean, the Les Mis/Mean Girls crossovers alone...

24. Name a character from a musical you would sort into your Hogwarts house.

Well, the test sorted me into Hufflepuff (great house), but I know that I am a Ravenclaw (and, as we know, the hat listens to you). Okay, Ravenclaw... maybe Melchior from Spring Awakening?

25. Name a Broadway star you would sort into your Hogwarts house.

Ugh, that’s even harder! Sorry, no clue.

26. Best on stage chemistry?

Hmm from what I’ve seen live, Rob Houchen and Carrie Hope Fletcher were pretty darn amazing together.

From what I haven’t seen live, Jennifer Damiano and Adam Chanler-Berat, and Justin Johnston and Michael McElroy seemed fantastic.

27. A Broadway duo you love.

I’m gonna say Jonathan Groff and Lin-Manuel Miranda, but I’m not sure I understand the question...

28. What book, tv show, movie, biography, video game, etc. should be turned into a musical?

Umm... I don’t know. Supernatural sort of is a musical... A Lord of the Rings musical in the style of A Very Potter Musical might be fun. The Fellowship of the Sing? I’ll show myself out.

29. If you could make a jukebox musical, what artist or genre would you pick?

I doubt many people know her but: Vienna Teng. For three reasons (aside from me liking her songs): 1. Her songs tell stories. 2. She often writes from the perspective of “characters.” 3. Her songs are actual poetry!

30. Favourite role played by _________________?

I don’t get it. What am I supposed to put here?

31. What musical has made you cry the most?

I don’t actually cry often at musicals (internally I do), but It’s Quiet Uptown from Hamilton got me bad the first time. And I once listened to Next to Normal when I was already feeling like shit - bad idea! (Don’t listen to There’s a World when you kind of want there to not be a world, kids...)

32. What musical has made you laugh the most?

Probably Avenue Q and Something Rotten

33. Current showtune stuck in you head:

Well, you just put Hard to Be the Bard in my head!

34. A musical that has left you thinking about life for a long time or deeply inspired you.

Les Misérables... I haven’t spent a single week without thinking about that show (or, indeed, the book) since early 2013.

Next to Normal also gave me a lot to think about.

I keep discovering new little bits of genius in Hamilton lyrics. Also, I’m writing a paper on the early US for the second time in under a year and characters from Hamilton (otherwise know as historical figures) keep popping up. Seriously, I’m writing about the Whiskey Rebellion and every time I read Hamilton’s name my brain goes PAY YOUR FUCKING TAXES!

I’ve also thought quite a bit about Heathers and The Last Five Years, because both of them have had productions where they genderbended (genderbent?) a main character, which made me think about how it changes the story and why.

35. If you could perform any ensemble number , which one would you pick?

“If you could...” Are you implying that I don’t?! Come on, any theatre geek who claims never to have done a solo rendition of One Day More is definitely lying! Oh, and I rapped myself all the way through One Shot the other day and made only one mistake - one that Lin’s made before, so I’m proud!

36. Name a musical you didn’t like at first but ended up loving.

I don’t think that’s really happened... There have been shows where I thought “What in the holy hell is this?!” and ended up loving it. I mean, what in the holy hell is Avenue Q?!

37. What are some costumes you’d love to try on?

Give me that red vest! Also, let me play Enjolras! Yes, I know I’m a woman and can only hit that low “foooorm” when I’ve got a really bad cold, but fuck all that!

I’d also really like to try on Elphaba’s Act II dress, because it’s epic!

38. Favourite dance break.

Hmmm... I don’t really have one? The one in Cool and the ballet in Somewhere where they sort of replay what’s happened are pretty amazing (both West Side Story).

39. Favourite Starkid musical:

A Very Potter Musical is the only one I know... Sorry...

40. What’s a musical more people should know about?

Well, where I live, most people have heard of Cats, Phantom, and Mamma Mia and that’s about it.

But in general, I’ve never met anyone who’s even heard of Assassins (although many people who have met me have now heard everything about Assassins - I’m that kind of person).

41. What are some lines from musicals you really like?

Okay, this is gonna take a while...

Verses I have that I realize I haven’t gotten to use much of, even though I’ve had this blog for over three years.

Take any of these ideas, CLAIM THEM AS YOURS, and I will stab you in the eye.

v: Une Rose Dans de le Nord (A Rose in the North)

I know that a bunch of other Margy’s have this verse but it’s a verse I had since I started this blog, Margaery’s brought to the North by her father to be a ward for House Stark, & is betrothed to Robb Stark. The idea is that since the Tyrell’s fought for the losing side each child after Willas was sent to a different place. Garlan to the Vale, Loras to The Storm Lands, & Margaery to the North.

v: The Reluctance of The Wolf. (forced marriage au)

Forced into marriage with one another. Margaery tries to make the best of her fate. Lady Catelyn is a joy and kind to her. Wonderful in every way. While Robb… Robb is cold to her. Margaery becomes scared that she is trapped in another loveless marriage and struggles to understand her cold & grim husband.

v: Westlander (a pun on outlander and a verse in the same vein.)

Margaery Tyrell went away on a trip to the northern area of modern day Westeros. The brunette was having a nice time until she awoke after a walk to find herself not where she had fallen asleep. The land she awoke in was covered with snow.

v: Cursed

When his daughter was born, Mace Tyrell had a big party. Unknown to him, one of the gifts his daughter was given was cursed by a witch across the sea. The child would wed, but each husband would die until one came that could break the curse.

When Mace found out about the curse it was already too late, Margaery had grown into a beautiful woman and he couldn’t stop himself from setting up her marriages.

Each one ends in tragedy.

Margaery returned to Highgarden and vowed to never marry again. After all… Who would want to marry a woman who was cursed?

When Margaery was a child she always knew there was something different about her, and her family. She always just thought it was odd that her father could influence those around him with a word, her grandmother’s plants never died, and her brothers… Well, Willas’ super memory and intelligence were next to none, and his ability to seemingly communicate with Animals, Garlan and his super strength, Loras and his agility, she wondered what her powers would be.

At nine the voices started. She could hear them even in her sleep, it was all so very loud and overwhelming, she just wanted it to stop, but it didn’t. It just got worse and louder, it wasn’t until later that she learned these voices were not in her head, they were in the heads of others. She also learned that she could feel other’s emotions as well and project her own on them. Margaery harnesses the powers of empathy and telepathy, her grandmother does her best to help her control it.

Her family is heavily involved in the Hellfire club, and Margaery didn’t have much of a choice, but to do the same. She has always admired the X-Men though and is considering switching sides.

v: Manners Maketh Woman.

Margaery was recruited to MI6 when she was 21 years old in the middle of her third year of college. She hadn’t even planned on being an agent, but now she can’t exactly get out of it. She discovers The Kingsman and works with them more times than she thought she would. She enjoys it, though she doesn’t always trust them especially since they are a rather secret organization.

Virgin Queen: Margaery marries Tommen, but he dies shortly after the union. With no heirs to the throne. (Myrcella is dead.) Margaery takes the throne for her own ruling as Queen after the small council decides that it’s the only way to keep the Tyrell’s in the fold. (Cersei dies shortly after Tommen)

New Beginnings ~ Chpt 7

Rosalie had never seen so many people in the small room above the Caf�� Musain. After the rally les amis slowly began filing in with Marius being the last one in but soon other joined their group and couldn't help but to notice that even though Enjolras was not smiling his blue eyes sparkled with the happiness he was feeling at seeing the people coming to help with the preparations.

They were gathering guns and gun power and anything else they could possibly use. Enjolras began delegating jobs out to people and Rosalie watched, a small smile playing on her lips. She didn't even know she was staring until she was startled by Marius clearing his throat before sitting next to her. "Forgive me, mademoiselle, it just seemed like you know what I'm feeling."

Rosalie smiled at Marius and squeezed his hand. "You're forgiven Marius I hadn't even realized I had slipped into a daydream. Now, what are you talking about?" She asked.

Marius sighed. "I met a girl today. She was the most beautiful girl I think I have ever seen. I think I'm in love Rosie."

Rosalie smiled wide which was easily returned by Marius. "That's fantastic news Marius," He face then dropped as she saw everything going on behind him, "Does she know about the revolution?"

Marius shook his head. "Rosie, can I trust you with this secret?"

Rosalie nodded. "Of course, Marius."

Marius took a deep breath. "I might not join. I have my doubts and I want to be with her Rosie and I can't have that guaranteed."

But as fate would have it the room quieted just as he said that and the people close to the pair heard. Grantaire poured a glass of wine and handed it to Marius. "Take this. Now, what's going on?"

Marius took a sip of his drink before answering. "I saw a girl today at the rally. She was like a ghost to me. One minute there then she was gone."

Grantaire chuckled. "I am agog! I am aghast! Is Marius in love at last?" He teased as he stood and pointed towards Enjolras. "You talk of battles to be won and here he comes like Don Juan. Why, it's better than an opera!"

Enjolras came over and sat down next to Marius, his usual firm look set in place. He was having none of this. He needed Marius' support. He couldn't just throw everything away because he thought himself in love. This wasn't some game boys played in the garden. "Do we fight for a night at the opera now? Have you asked yourself what's the price you might pay? Is this simply a game for a rich young boy to play? The colors of the world are changing day by day." He stood, going back to the maps he was looking over, hoping he had given Marius enough to think about.

Except he never reached the maps for Marius had reached out and grabbed his arm. "You should know how I feel. I see the way you look at her when you think no one is looking, how you treat her. You should know how it feels when your world changes in a single burst of light and what was right seems wrong and what was wrong seems right."

Enjolras scoffed, shaking his head. He didn't want to even think about how he was going against his feelings towards Rosalie. He hadn't even admitted them to her. He couldn't. He didn't want to give either one of them a false sense of hope in case the revolution was not successful no matter how much he prayed that it would be. "I do not doubt you mean it well, but now there is a higher call. Who cares about your lonely soul? Right now we don't matter, freeing France is all that we should be focused on and maybe then you can go after your mademoiselle."

Rosalie couldn't believe what she was hearing. She took Marius' cup and finished it off. She knew that this was going to happen. Eponine had warned her but that didn't mean that it didn't hurt any less, especially after all they had been through the past couple of days. The only thing that kept her from fully escaping was Gavroche, who had just come up the stairs.

The small boy tugged on her dress, a sad expression on his face. Rosalie crouched down and he whispered the news in her ear. Rosalie gasped, this couldn't be. "Everybody listen!" She cried.

All of the students turned to face her and Gavroche. "General Lamarque is dead." He announced.

Enjolras and Rosalie locked eyes. This was exactly what they were talking about earlier before the rest of their friends came. Rosalie nodded and Enjolras turned to address the room. "Lamarque's death is the sign we await! They will honor his name with the light of rebellion ablaze in their eyes with their candles of grief we will kindle our flame on the tomb of Lamarque shall our barricades arise! It is here gentleman. France can finally be free!"

Everyone in the room cheered. Rosalie smiled when Enjolras looked back over at her briefly before turning back to preparing for the rebellion. Rosalie then crouched back down to Gavroche. "I'm going down to get some water. Thank you for bringing us that news." She placed a kiss on his cheek causing the child to beam before he took off running towards Courfeyrac.

Rosalie took one look back at the room full of students planning on bringing France to the freedom that it deserved. She smiled but then soon went down the stairs. She needed to get away just for a moment. She needed to recollect herself. If what Enjolras had said to Marius was true then she needed to get her act together. Nothing was going to happen between her and Enjolras. She needed to be away from his infectious pull in order to lock away all of her feelings for him in the deepest, darkest places of her heart. So, she began her walk back to the Enjolras estate.

Marius came over to where Enjolras was working and sat down. "Enjolras, I need to speak with you." He implored.

Enjolras looked up and sighed, taking a seat and motioning for his friend to continue.

"I know that it is foolish falling in love at a time like this but Enjolras how can you say those things when you have Rosalie? So many of us would have liked to have courted her and yet we knew rather quickly that you two only had eyes for each other. Why do you deny it even now after everything?" Marius asked.

The leader ran a hand over his face. "It's more complicated than that, Marius. We both know the risks of this rebellion. I do not wish to get our hopes up just to not have us live without each other once it is all over. France's freedom is the thing I have to focus on now so maybe after all this is over I can express to Rosalie how I feel."

Marius shook his head. "Love doesn't make you weaker, it can only make you stronger and give you a will to survive. You should tell her Enjolras."

Enjolras glared at Marius, not wanting to admit that his friend was right. How was it that the same speech, well practically the same speech, given to him by his mother didn't launch him into action but this speech coming from Marius, Enjolras was planning on doing just that? Marius smiled at his friend and then noticed Eponine at the top of the stairs. He offered a goodbye before rushing to the brunette to hear if she had news about his mystery girl.

Enjolras looked back down at the table and took a deep breath before looking back up to see where Rosalie could be. Wait, where was Rosalie? She was no where to be seen. He jumped up and went over to Courfeyrac. "Do you know where Rosalie is?" He asked.

"She told me she was going to get some water from downstairs but she hasn't come back up yet." Gavroche answered.

Enjolras nodded and rushed down the stairs. He couldn't find her there either. His heart was pounding out of his chest. Where could she have gone? Why did she leave without telling him? She said her father was locked away. Did he manage to escape and steal her away? He took off running towards his house, hoping, praying that she was there.

He burst through the front doors, causing his mother to jump in her seat. "She's upstairs in her room. She said she wasn't feeling good and didn't get a chance to tell you before she left the cafe."

Enjolras let out a breath he hadn't realized he was holding. "Thank you, mother." He said before making his way up to her room.

He opened the door just a bit to peak in. She was lying peacefully in her bed, asleep. Enjolras sighed in relief and crept inside. He kneeled down by her bedside and tucked a stray piece of hair behind her ear. "Oh, Rosie how you scared me." He whispered. "I know you can't hear me but please never do that again." Enjolras then stood and placed a kiss on top of her head before pulling her blanket further up her shoulders. Just before he left the room, he whispered, "I love you, Rosie and I promise after this rebellion we will be together."

Kara’s super long plot ideas list

Verses I have that I realize I haven’t gotten to use much of, even though I’ve had this blog for over three years.

Take any of these ideas, CLAIM THEM AS YOURS, and I will stab you in the eye.

v: Une Rose Dans de le Nord (A Rose in the North)

I know that a bunch of other Margy’s have this verse but it’s a verse I had since I started this blog, Margaery’s brought to the North by her father to be a ward for House Stark, & is betrothed to Robb Stark. The idea is that since the Tyrell’s fought for the losing side each child after Willas was sent to a different place. Garlan to the Vale, Loras to The Storm Lands, & Margaery to the North.

v: The Reluctance of The Wolf. (forced marriage au)

Forced into marriage with one another. Margaery tries to make the best of her fate. Lady Catelyn is a joy and kind to her. Wonderful in every way. While Robb… Robb is cold to her. Margaery becomes scared that she is trapped in another loveless marriage and struggles to understand her cold & grim husband.

v: Westlander (a pun on outlander and a verse in the same vein.)

Margaery Tyrell went away on a trip to the northern area of modern day Westeros. The brunette was having a nice time until she awoke after a walk to find herself not where she had fallen asleep. The land she awoke in was covered with snow.

v: Cursed

When his daughter was born, Mace Tyrell had a big party. Unknown to him, one of the gifts his daughter was given was cursed by a witch across the sea. The child would wed, but each husband would die until one came that could break the curse.

When Mace found out about the curse it was already too late, Margaery had grown into a beautiful woman and he couldn’t stop himself from setting up her marriages.

Each one ends in tragedy.

Margaery returned to Highgarden and vowed to never marry again. After all… Who would want to marry a woman who was cursed?

v; don’t let yourself be hunted

When Margaery was a child she always knew there was something different about her, and her family. She always just thought it was odd that her father could influence those around him with a word, her grandmother’s plants never died, and her brothers… Well, Willas’ super memory and intelligence were next to none, and his ability to seemingly communicate with Animals, Garlan and his super strength, Loras and his agility, she wondered what her powers would be.

At nine the voices started. She could hear them even in her sleep, it was all so very loud and overwhelming, she just wanted it to stop, but it didn’t. It just got worse and louder, it wasn’t until later that she learned these voices were not in her head, they were in the heads of others. She also learned that she could feel other’s emotions as well and project her own on them. Margaery harnesses the powers of empathy and telepathy, her grandmother does her best to help her control it.

Her family is heavily involved in the Hellfire club, and Margaery didn’t have much of a choice, but to do the same. She has always admired the X-Men though and is considering switching sides.

v: Manners Maketh Woman.

Margaery was recruited to MI6 when she was 21 years old in the middle of her third year of college. She hadn’t even planned on being an agent, but now she can’t exactly get out of it. She discovers The Kingsman and works with them more times than she thought she would. She enjoys it, though she doesn’t always trust them especially since they are a rather secret organization.

Highgarden Raid: Highgarden is raided and burned by (the iron born or Dragons) In this Margaery loses a good portion of her family. Since this is a canon divergence ·the war of the five kings could still be going on.

Virgin Queen: Margaery marries Tommen, but he dies shortly after the union. With no heirs to the throne. (Myrcella is dead.) Margaery takes the throne for her own ruling as Queen after the small council decides that it’s the only way to keep the Tyrell’s in the fold. (Cersei dies shortly after Tommen)
