Richard Dadd - Le Sommeil de Titania Le sujet de ce tableau est tiré du Songe d'une nuit d'été de Shakespeare, acte II scène 2. La scène montre Obéron, roi des fées que l'on devine dans la pénombre, jaloux de sa femme Titania. Il lui reproche son intérêt pour un jeune écuyer. Pour la faire souffrir, il fait verser sur les paupières de la reine endormie le suc magique d'une plante qui à son réveil la rendra amoureuse de la première créature entrevue. The subject of this painting is taken from Shakespeare's A Midsummer Night's Dream, Act II Scene 2. The scene shows Oberon, king of fairies who can be seen in the darkness, jealous of his wife Titania. He blames her for her interest in a young squire. To make her suffer, he has the magical juice of a plant poured on the eyelids of the queen  that when she wakes up will make her fall in love with the first creature she sees.
