Hello Gamers me and some friends made a game in 72 hours for Ludum Dare 42 where you’re an aspiring young prodigy who has just too many trophies.
Check It Out Here!
It’s like five minutes long but I feel its worth it.

Ludum Dare 42!
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/vupu
https://limitiv.itch.io/vupu
Me and some friends of mine whipped up a game for Ludum Dare 42, to the theme of “running out of space”. Funnily enough we didn’t have internet connection at the time the theme was announced, so a friend read the theme off as “running outer space” and the rest is history :) It’s rock-hard and the hitboxes for the eyeball enemies are completely out of whack but you should definitely give it a try ʕ•ᴥ•ʔ

LD42: Last Land Heroes
Hi everyone, participated in Ludum dare 42 last week. Theme: Running out of space (72h)
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/last-land-heroes
direct to HTML5 (web) version: https://johgames.itch.io/last-land-heroes
Last Land Heroes is a survival game, You have to claim the land to keep it from falling into darkness. However Many foes (Slimes) take away the claim causing loss of land.
Don't fall to your doom, Kill the enemies and don't Die! Things do get progressively harder!
Oh and there's many class to unlock!
Apparently its a bit on the easy side. (I underestimated yall, but you can try to beat me)
Here's my latest score to beat!
https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/last-land-heroes
If you participated in the jam, id of course appreciate rating, comments would be appreciated too. you can put them here too. Hope you like it.

A new engine?
I started using Unity in 2011. And from then on, other than the occasional dabble into Game Maker, Unity + C# is my go to for making games. It’s not the BEST GAME ENGINE EVER! But it gets the job done, and is easy to use.
But for the last few months, I've been thinking about moving on to something else(I can do another wall of text for this). And so, for Ludum dare #42, I decided to try a new game engine. Was split between Defold and Godot. Some of the considerations I had were:
Pricing
Proprietary[Defold] vs Open source[Godot]
Updates
Lua[Defold] vs engine’s custom script[Godot’s gdscript]
Engine workflow
Store/social integration APIs
Support for mobile
Ability to extend the engine, using other libraries e.g. OpenCV, native iOS/ android features
Help and tutorials
In the end I picked Defold mainly for this 2 reasons. 1) I'm not comfortable relying on Godot to make games that are for commercial purposes. 2) Lua > engine's own custom script. I'll take a more well established scripting/programming language over anything else. Which is also why I do not use Game maker.
And here is the game we made using Defold(engine) + Affinity designer(art) + Spine (animation).
Sweatin’ Spinnin’ Spacin’

Knowing that we probably shouldn't do anything too complicated, this is what we came up with. I will discuss about my experiences with Defold in a later post.

I decided make a game for Ludum Dare this past weekend as a way to brush up on my game dev/RPG Maker skills since I’ve been feeling pretty rusty lately. I didn’t finish in time to submit it for judging but I’m actually pretty happy with what I did manage to get done so I wanted to share!
The theme for the jam was “Running out of space” so I made a game called “The Commute”, which about the struggle of having your phone run out of storage space at really inopportune moments lol. It’s basically a survival game, with the main goal being to complete your commute to work without having your “mood gauges” drop to zero.
During your commute, you encounter lots of different things that will affect your mood, like crowds and annoying, screaming kids. You can boost your mood back up again by using various apps on your phone that help distract you from the chaos going on. But since your phone is running out of space, you can only have a select few apps on your phone at a time. Before the start of each level, you can decide which apps you feel are the most worthwhile to keep based on the benefits they provide, how much battery the use up, and how much space they take up on your phone.
I’m gonna try to finish up this game over the next few days and hopefully have it released next week!

SO my #ludumdare #gamejam team this weekend ended up having so many artists that I had enough time to design my own visual take on our idea using our team’s palette. It’s a #pixelart #taco #boi that is aiming to fill itself to order for various customers with the ingredients randomly falling from the ceiling... to then be dragged off screen and eaten lol. It is basically #tetris with #platforming and #recipes, within a taco theme. Yay! #pixel #gamedev #gameart #videogames #gamedev #cartoon #cooking #retro #mexicanfood #digitalart #game #ld42 #LDjam (at Lemon Grove, California)

Ludum Dare 42
Hey!
Ludum Dare has come back around, and this time the theme is “running out of space“. We’re going with a triage simulator, where you’re constantly running out of beds.
Currently we’re at a point where most of the engine is done, but still a lot of placeholder art.
Across the bottom of the screen, we have the belongings of the patient, then available medicines, and then a button to call the nurse.
Across the right is shown the important information for the patient, and across the top of the screen is the triage options to choose for the patient.
If you’re wondering what patient I’m talking about, there’s meant to be someone in the bed. We just haven’t done that part yet :).
So yeah, progress is going well. Look forward to showing you all the finished project!

Okay - calculated the correlation of each category to the Overall rating for the top 20 games of the last 5 #LDJAM . The percent column refers to how much of your effort you should focus towards each category if you want to emulate the previous top 20s.
Take this with a GRAIN OF SALT.
