Eduardo wasn’t about to pass up the chance to stop his friend from losing his soul and so he got up, “Thanks… I think.” He said again, tapping the table they’d been sat at before he sped off towards his friend, who didn’t seem at all happy to have Eduardo dragging him by the arm away from the girl he’d been hoping to hook up with.
END.
eduardofaukes:
Eduardo just laughed quietly, “Well, it is what it is.” He flashed her another boyish grin and shrugged. “I don’t know any deity’s, but I suppose they’ll just have to judge me when I get to it.” He agreed. Eduardo had never been sure what he believed when it came to the afterlife. “You think I have boyish charm?” He asked with a slight lift to his eyebrow.
“Yeah.” Eduardo confirmed, “Should I be saving him from having his soul recycled right now?”
“ They will judge you regardless, it’s what deities do. We demons are the fun, they are the boredom. ” Layla would know, she used to be one, a long time ago. “I wouldn’t start a career in acting, relying solely on your boyish charm, but yes, you have something.  Perhaps it´s the wolf part.”
She chuckled, watching how Eduardo´s friend was about to be lured into the seediest part of Absynthia. “ Run little wolf. You might catch him in time.”

Daphne was sat up in the grand four-poster bed in her bedroom, pink bed linen pooled around her as she sat with a book in her lap. She was reading, while slowly taking out the pins that had kept her curls secured to her head. She let down the last of her long blonde ringlets when she heard the noise downstairs. Her brow furrowed and she pulled on a satin robe as she made her way down the many, many stairs with easy speed. Something about the sound was familiar.
Daphne was met with the sight of Chris crumpled on the floor by her coat closet, his nose bleeding. “What happened?” She knelt down beside him, her hands gently cupping his face to bring his eyes to her. She hadn’t been with Layla for two decades without getting to know when a portal had been created in her home. “Was Layla here?”
Tumblr media
He glanced over when he heard footsteps and saw Daphne almost floating down the stairs like some kind of angel. When she settled in front of him sounding so concerned, Chris let his gaze drop to the floor. He knew the instant he looked Daphne in the eye the whole truth would come out and he’d have to face her probably being disappointed with him. “Not really here, more like she dropped me off.” He was feeling mostly alright now, but he stayed where he was. “Layla says ‘hi’ though.”
Time to face the music. “I visited Absynthia.” He dragged his eyes up to her unfairly blue ones. “I wasn’t planning on doing anything, or getting drunk, I just heard the name so many times and I was curious.” Now that he said it out loud it really did sound stupid. “And that’s where Layla was.” How the hell was he supposed to explain how their conversation had gone down? “She didn’t like, hurt me or anything.”

Visiting Hell always brought the worst in Layla to the surface. It was infuriating how she allowed herself to feel. To display a weakness so unbecoming. It made her feel sick, nauseated to the depths of her soul. She could still taste the ashes and the stench, probably psychological at this point, that only brimstone produced. Purging the terrors from her mind the only way she knows how, Layla indulged in all Absynthia had to offer. Three days in a row, the demon visits the infamous nightclub, not caring what the owner might do or say.
At 9 am sharp that morning, Professor Kassin entered the classroom with no traces of her scandalous behaviours the past nights. Being a demon had its perks. Hours after, Layla the demon, was moving her body to the hypnotic sound of the beat. Like a spider she had lured humans closer to satiate her hunger. Someone was watching her, not a novelty. When they approached, she turned around quickly. " What do you want?." Eyes displaying an unnatural glow, that in hindsight could be explained by the psychedelic nightclub lights.

“I mean I don’t know the criteria exactly for a clean and healthy soul,” Eduardo chuckled, “But I’ve told a few white lies in my time, sworn in church, laughed at someone walking into a glass door… how corrupt does that measure at exactly?” Eduardo asked with a boyish smile, though he was genuinely curious, when he probably should have been more concerned for his safety. “Nah, I think my soul is one of my only redeeming qualities. Better leave that one in place.” He replied.
Tumblr media
The wolf huffed quietly, amused. “Have you been to many human clubs recently? There’s much less risk of being left a soulless husk there. Though the music is pretty terrible.” Especially to Eduardo’s sensitive ears. He glanced back at his friend, still chatting up the girl at the bar.
-
“ You are definitely going to burn in hell when you die.” Layla replied, the amused tone betraying her words. “ It´s the sacrilege in church, deities are awfully vindictive. If it was a christian church those fuckers take punishment and guilt to epic levels. Is it your soul? I believed it was your face and sort of boyish charm. ”
Tumblr media
“ The risk is still there, the only difference is that here the recycling soul system is more efficient. Technically , no one dies.” She looked at the girl the man was talking with. Ah yes, he was fucked. Layla chuckled. “ Is he your friend?”

“I suppose that’s… somewhat moral.” Eduardo breathed a laugh he didn’t quite believe in and shook his head. If he was being honest he wasn’t used to being in this kind of environment and seeing a demon feed from someone— even if the people who came to Absynthia were supposedly willing— Eduardo wasn’t quite sure it was his idea of fun, or if he fancied being next. “Werewolf.” Eduardo answered. “Suppose species doesn’t make much of difference in this place when it comes to souls, though?”
Tumblr media
eduardofaukes:
“Kinda, yeah.” Eduardo replied with a shrug, though he was looking at the professor differently now he had seen the demonic gleam in her eyes from across the club. “Although now the disappointment in humanity speech makes more sense. Though this method of punishment for cheating seems kind of extreme.” He added, unsure of whether he was joking or not. Eduardo glanced over at where the group of women were guiding their friend out of one of the booths towards the exit, “Did I interrupt your dinner?” He asked.
Tumblr media

She laughed, a clear sound that was lost under the beat of the music. “ While I do enjoy giving punishments in various ways, my professional and personal life don´t cross.” Not entirely true, but she did wait for her students to finish their courses before introducing the chosen ones to demonic deals.“ That was dessert. Her soul will bounce back I didn’t take that much. And what may you be? Since our little secret is out in the open, there is no need to pretend."

“I don’t know, I like to think that I have a pure-ish soul.” Eduardo replied with a shrug. He had never killed anyone, or done anything too terrible, beyond dumb pranks and a few lies here and there. “Though I suppose that means more indigestion for you.” Eduardo replied with a smile of amusement, chuckling slightly, “But it would be an efficient way of doing things, don’t you think?” He asked, but ended up shrugged, “Though I think there’s probably too many loopholes to be found with that.” The omega looked around, “So that’s what this place is for? To make it more fun?”
Tumblr media
-
“ Pure-ish? Do tell me more about the reasons why you wouldn´t consider your soul entirely pure.” Layla raised her eyebrows clearly amused. “ If you want we could test it. I can deal with some indigestion for the sake of science.”
Efficiency would be a good argument in favor of his theory. However, other supernaturals had moral issues with that. And honestly, without the pleasure of the hunt, souls tasted like frozen food that you throw into the oven for a quick meal. Could be nutritious, but left you yearning for more and better.
“ What are night clubs meant for? Listen to good music, dance, drink, have fun and find the occasional fuck. Absynthia is no different.”

Eduardo’s brow lifted slightly at her response. While he knew she was making a sweeping comment about sleeping with a wolf, it still made him struggle for words for a second. But eventually Eduardo managed to close his mouth for long enough to come up with something. “Corrupt souls? Huh, for some reason I thought pure souls would taste better.” He replied with a shrug, though he supposed he felt fractionally better that they were eating souls of people that had potentially done questionable things? “Can’t they just send you guys into a prison or something and let you buffet out on the bad guys?”

It was almost adorable to watch him searching for words. He must be quite an interesting sight in wolf form. Perhaps he would be easier to convince than Augustine. “ Not for me. Pure souls give me indigestion. Do you think your soul would be bad or good? Ignoring the fact that you are a wolf. Buffet out on the bad guys?” She had to repeat his words. “What are we? The garbage truck? Food served in a cage makes for a lousy dinner. No fun.”

Eduardo had never been to Absynthia before, in-fact he only ended up there that night because a group of friends had dragged him along. Eduardo just snorted at their comments about ‘hot demon chicks’ and relented to joining them for one drink. It was nearing the full-moon and Eduardo generally liked to stay away from those types of scenes on the lead up to a change. While he was a born wolf, fights and chaos always seemed to ensue around those types of places and Eduardo liked to avoid letting his aggressions get the better of him and getting caught in a fight when there were humans around.
Still, he was stood at the bar while one of his friends was trying their very best to score with a girl that was way out of his league, when Eduardo noticed someone in the crowd. She looked like she was dancing at her first, until she suddenly started to look weak, and like she might collapse. Eduardo got up in time to pull her away from the dance floor, and she seemed to regain herself a little when she was out of proximity. “You okay?” He asked as he got her to sit down. She seemed confused, but nodded, insisting she was okay. Eduardo got her some water, sitting with her a while. He couldn’t help but notice the way her eyes kept flickering towards a woman not far away from them. Her eyes were gleaming and Eduardo vaguely recognised her. The professor he’d met outside of the campus. When the girls friends came to find out what was going on, Eduardo left them to it and moved across to the professor. “Didn’t peg you for a regular here.”

Stealing someone’s food wasn’t a nice thing to do. Layla had been already full, the girl was only meant to be dessert or the demon would have reacted differently.
“ If I had a coin every time I hear that I would be even richer by now." It was clear that she was amused. Focussing his attention on the person in front of her, the demon recalled his name from that meeting at the campus. She had a good memory for faces, mostly when they were handsome. And he called her ma´am, that sticks with a person. ” Oh really? Did you expect me to be drinking tea and going to bed at this hour?“

“Huh,” Eduardo responded with a small huff, “Think we repel most species.” The omega added with a small chortle of amusement despite the subject matter. “Doesn’t it have anything to do with the condition of the soul? I always thought it mattered what the person was like.” Eduardo shrugged, as if it weren’t obscure to be having a conversation with a demon about eating souls in the middle of a night club.
Tumblr media

“ Depends on the situations.” Layla replied smiling. “ While I would prefer the soul of any human to yours in terms of sustenance, in bed a wolf would not repel me. Wolves have better endurance and don´t break as easily as humans.” Simple science or magic. It was no secret that she was sharing with Eduardo.“ Species matter more in my experience, but I can tell you that corrupt souls taste particularly sweet.”

Morals? The demon´s lips lifted in a smile before a laugh slipped between her lips. “ Oh please, no need to offend me, Eduardo.” Little puppy almost replaced his name. Layla always had a soft spot for wolves, the animal not the human part. “ You are wrong. Every species tastes different, your soul wouldn´t be as good as that of a human .It´s a good thing, if you think about it. No demon would go after you, unless they have a very specific preference. And we all have our kinks.”

Daphne knew she had recognised the sound of something going on in her house, even if Layla tried her very best to make it subtle. “Does she now…” Daphne trailed off, but she could save that conversation for another time.
Daphne searched her fledglings eyes as he finally lifted his gaze to her. “I think even Layla knows better than to do that.” The vampire replied, though her brow furrowed slightly as she leant in to collect the blood that had fallen down to Chris’ lip. “Come on, let’s get you up.” Daphne exhaled softly, looping her arm easily under his to collect them both to their feet. She walked them over to the sofa, sitting down onto it.
“It’s not a crime to want to go to Absynthia, you know, or anywhere else of that fashion…” Daphne told him gently after a moment, “But you have to know that going to those sorts of places, being at the stage you are, is only going to invite something you might not want. Most demon’s won’t be reserved in feeding from your soul, Chris, or tempting you to their blood… while they might be resilient to feed from and less likely to end in tragic circumstances like humans, you shouldn’t take their generosity at face value. They won’t hesitate to make you addicted to their blood and therefore reliant, indebted to them even.” Daphne explained. “I don’t want to see you get hurt.”
