I wonder when will "law of ueki plus/ueki no hosoku plus/うえきの法則plus" gonna turn into an anime..? I wish i could see more advanture and journey from ueki.. i hope Tsubasa Fukuchi is still with us now to make it happen.. ☹️

Ueki no Housoku – Law of ueki

Kousuke Ueki is a Middle School student that is selected by a Celestial King Candidate to enter a competition to choose the next God of Heaven.

There are 100 candidates to be the next God and each chooses one middle school student to fight on their behalf. The winning Candidate will become the God of Heaven and the student will receive the ‘Talent of Blank’, a power where they can choose to have any talent and be the best at it.

Each student is given a superpower from the God Candidates, Ueki receives/chooses the power to turn garbage into trees. This competition leads most student to become greedy for power, however Ueki takes upon himself to win the tournament and keep the power away from them.

The anime has 51 episodes and the manga is separated in ‘Ueki no Housoku’ and ‘Ueki no Housoku Plus’.

Let me tell you why Law of Ueki is a great series.

I’m sorry but even after all these years I still love this series and I want more people to know about it.

LoU has a very weird but actually very simple story: There’s a tournament hosted by the “Celestials” that brings the Candidates to choose a kid, give them a power and make them compete to reach the top. The kid that wins the tournament will be gain a Talent of their choice, and their Candidate will become the new God King.

One would say “Meh, I don’t see anything special about this plot.” But here’s the deal: the protagonist, Ueki, is a kid moved by a strong (and I mean strong) sense of justice which was granted the power to change trash into trees. And while this may sound not interesting, the story develops in deeper ways. Seriously, there’s a lot more to it than what I wrote just now.

And while I do like the story a lot on its own, what I really like... is the art.

At first glance one would say “Oh god this looks awful”. Especially if you try reading it from the start. But hear me out. The author grows during the serialization. I believe more than anybody else I’ve read.

Just look at this. This is how he drew in the first volume:

And this is how he drew in the last volume (sry couldn’t find a better example without giving out spoilers;;):

The manga has 16 volumes. That’s a huge improvement if you ask me.

And don’t make me start on how he drew in the short sequel that he drew shortly after he ended LoU on 2005, Law of Ueki Plus:

That’s so encouraging somehow??? Especially after reading the end-series note he left after finishing LoU Plus:

Seriously, if you have some free time or are looking into reading a new manga, go read Law of Ueki. And if you can’t stand the art style, or even if you do, go watch the anime. The art in it is outstanding, and the story is exactly the same as the manga so you won’t miss out on anything the original has to offer.
