Amanda Rollins does not deserve Sonny Carisi

i am pretty much always in support of women in relationships (especially fictional) just because statistics are on women’s side, HOWEVER, amanda rollins is genuinely a terrible person and I don’t understand why she and carisi are together.

amanda victim blames women constantly (but gets defensive if the victim is a man?? like pick a standard) and she has done this for like a decade, she forgives men around her for the worst transgressions though.

she will always side with cops even in situations where they’re CLEARLY in the wrong like that woman who’s husband was abusing her. on top of that her simply being mean to people around her. she insulted nick multiple times and called carisi stupid and hasn’t apologized for it. she only goes to him when she’s having problems and even hijacked a moment where he was having his feelings about a vic DYING IN HIS ARMS to make the situation about herself.

meanwhile carisi is kind, he’s open, he’s always there for the victims, he helps with her kids, he cooks, he’s forgiving and she takes major advantage of that. she knows how he feels about her and it’s only after he starts seeing another woman that she suddenly realizes she feels the same? bull.

i’m not saying she had to get with carisi just because he liked her, it’s her choice. i just think the writers should have had him end up with someone better.

yeah yeah, amanda feels like she doesn’t deserve a good man because of her past blah blah blah. i get it abuse and trauma can warp the mind, believe me. i get it. but this doesn’t give her the right to be toxic as hell and rarely ever apologize for it.

let’s all just be very honest for a minute if amanda didn’t look the way she looked ✋🏻, would anyone have put up with her mess this long? i think we all know the answer to that question.

carisi deserves someone like him, kind, caring, loving, so he can taking a freaking day off of caring about everyone else around him. instead he’s become a permanent babysitter. and they have completely altered his character to fit with hers. i don't know if it's just me, but from season 16-20 carisi was very bubbly and kind, now? he has become so mean. the best way I can explain this is through the relationship between kat and sonny. seasons 16/17 sonny and kat would be best friends. in the seasons kat is actually in they couldn't be any more different.

let me ask you. would early seasons sonny be caught dead in a situation that could even be misinterpreted as cheating? no. what happened to him?

and then the ship has the audacity to be forced and boring. r*llisi shippers are very insufferable to me and I want you to know now. no one cares about your opinion or the canon of the show.

i think what pisses me off the most is that they never even gave sonny a chance. we basically only got one serious sonny relationship which was with nicole (a black woman btw) and she was in what? 2 episodes??? then she never appears again and we’re supposed to assume they broke up or something before sonny makes out with rollins.

i feel like sonny was the most himself around amaro and barba, since they left he’s just…different.

If they had given a little more focus/storyline to Carisi instead of deleting anything related to his personal life, it would have been interesting to see the number of women who were attracted to Carisi

Season 20 - Amy Gardner (deleted scene)

Season 21 - Dara Miglani (seemly implied attraction)

Season 22 - Nicole Harper

In the end Rollisi came on top

I gotta be honest, in an AU where Rollins didn't have to go to Atlanta, she would have met Nicole. And there would be a lot of awkward moments, someone giving the stink eye and maybe a loud argument fight. Rollins be asking Carisi a lot questions about her: how much he likes her? how long they've been together? when they first met? if he saw himself falling in love with her? Maybe a heart to heart conversation between Fin and Rollins about her and Carisi not acting on their feelings due to fear. As well as advice on telling her not to wait 20 years like what he and Phoebe did.

Maybe Carisi would have broken up with Nicole at the end. Even if she was doing everything in her power to save her sister, he should of saw that she didn't fully trust him and went behind his back. The honeymoon phase he was in ended the moment she went to the press and showed who she truly is. Not the partner he was looking for. But in all fairness, she was just a rebound to him trying to get over Rollins for good and Nicole wasn't that interested in him according to the showrunner.

Now that I'm thinking about Nicole, I just realized that Liv never offered any advice to Carisi about his relationship but she does with Rollins about Al and Fin about Phoebe.

She really does have a bias issue, something fans have been pointing out for a while.

I really, really, really hated the whole Nicole storyline. It served no purpose whatsoever - they could easily have done the ep about Nicole's missing sister with her and Carisi being friends rather than involved with each other. We never saw Amanda get jealous that Carisi was seeing someone, because she never even met Nicole! From that one episode where we saw Carisi and Nicole together, it was clear that his heart wasn't in the relationship and that they were all wrong for each other. Did I mention how much I hated that storyline?

As far as Liv not offering advice to Carisi about his relationships, I wouldn't be surprised if scenes like that exist, but ended up being cut, like the deleted scene from 20x13 where Carisi is in Liv's office while Amanda's in hospital in labour, and he tells Liv that he just wants Amanda to be happy (that scene gets me every time).

Whistle Down the Wind, Chapter One

You were late.  Again.

Practice had run over (again), and so you found yourself sprinting down the street (again), your violin case banging against the side of your leg as you dodged around pedestrians, hollering apologies over your shoulder when you ran into anyone.

Luckily, it was only Sunday at lunchtime, so you probably would still get a table even if you were late.  Unluckily, if you were late again, Sonny would never let you hear the end of it.  Luckily, you were just sprinting with your violin and not, say, your cello or your keyboard.  

Unluckily, you hadn’t seen much of Sonny since he got himself a girlfriend.  So you tried to maximize your time with him when you could get it.

You had been friends with Dominick “Call me Sonny, everybody does” Carisi Junior since college.  You had gone to school with his younger sister Bella, and she had quickly adopted you and made you a member of her family.  How many holiday breaks, how many weeks each summer had you spent in the Carisi household on Staten Island?  Too many to count.  And while you loved Bella like a sister, it had taken even less time to fall in love with Sonny.

Who, sadly, did not seem to return the sentiment. 

You pushed the thought out of your head as you jay-walked and then entered the restaurant.  Sonny was already there, and when he saw you walk in, he tapped his watch in an exaggerated manner before standing up to wrap you in one of his patented hugs.

You allowed yourself to melt against him for a briefest nanosecond, breathing in the scent of his cologne and soap, before you pushed yourself away, stashed your violin, and shed your coat.  Sonny pulled your chair out for you, and your flashed him your winningest grin as you sat down across from him.

He looked good.  He had finally shed that ridiculous mustache that made him look like an extra in a 1970’s porno, and his hair was swept up and gelled to perfection.  He was wearing his grey Henley and the jeans that looked perfect on him.  He crinkled his eyes at you and grinned back.

“I know I didn’t just see you jay-walking,” he said by way of greeting.  

You rolled your eyes at him and scanned the menu.  “Don’t be such a cop.”  

He picked up his own menu.  “Over 6,000 people died in pedestrian related accidents last year,” he said, his voice stern.  “I’d hate to see you go out that way.”

“I plan on dying tragically while rescuing my family from the wreckage of a destroyed sinking battleship,” you replied, dead-pan.

Sonny snorted by didn’t reply.  That’s what the two of you had originally bonded over: movies.  Bella didn’t have the attention span for movies – especially indie ones – so there were many summer nights in college that you found yourself on the Carisi rec room couch, curled under Nonna Carisi’s crocheted blanket in the frigid AC, watching some Wes Anderson or David Lynch (or once, very uncomfortably, a Harmony Korine film) with Sonny.  The first movie you had watched together had been “the Royal Tenenbaums.”

The two of you ordered lunch and then caught up.  He told you about his new stint at Manhattan’s SVU and his classes at Fordham Law.  You told him about the multiple gigs you had with your music – your cover band, your work at weddings, your growing portfolio of producing work.  He told you about his parents (bored empty nesters), you updated him about yours (bitter divorcees who lived halfway across the country).  Then you came to the topic that made your stomach turn with jealousy.  Significant others.

“How’s Nicole?” you asked, keeping your voice level and nonchalant.  

Sonny swallowed his bite of food.  “She’s good,” he replied.  He wiped at his mouth.  “We’re good.”

You nodded.  “That’s good.”  You focused on your plate, pushing the remains of your chicken piccata around. You could feel Sonny watching you, but you didn’t want to look up at him.  You had met his girlfriend exactly one time, at a Carisi family dinner. Nicole was the opposite of you: polished in perfect makeup and perfect clothing that fit perfectly.  She obviously went to the salon regularly – she didn’t have visible roots (despite Bella snarking to you once that Nicole wasn’t a natural blonde), and her nails were polished to a high shine.

In your meaner moments, you would reflect that she wasn’t very nice – she spent that dinner stealing glances at her phone, and she didn’t talk about anyone but herself.  But you tried to be happy for Sonny.  If he was happy, you were happy.  You could deal with the bittersweet feeling of being invisible.

“So everything’s good then,” Sonny teased, and you looked up to see his bright blue eyes twinkling at you.  “What about you?  Seeing anyone?”

You gave half of a shrug.  “Nah.”  You pushed your plate aside and flagged down the waitress for the bill, which Sonny snagged from you before you could get it.  He put down some cash and replied.

“You shouldn’t be so picky,” he said.  “I’m sure you could find someone if you didn’t have such high standards.”  You winced at this unintentional barb but tried to cover it up with a smile.  Of course you were picky – of all the people in New York City, there was only one Sonny Carisi.  And he was unavailable.

“You’re right.”  You stood up, put your coat on, grabbed your violin, and waited for him to follow. “The next time a guy with a rapey vibe hits on me after one of my gigs, I’ll just be less picky.  Thanks for the official advice from Sex Crimes.”

Sonny snorted as the two of you walked out of the restaurant, but he looked serious as he turned to hug you goodbye.  “Be careful out there.”

You hugged him back awkwardly, shielding part of your body with your violin.  Between both of your busy lives, you never got to see your friend anymore.  Lately, you only had time for these quick lunches before each of you went back to your separate lives.  

When you had graduated from college, you had moved to Manhattan to start your musical career, and Bella had stayed behind in your college town to wait for her boyfriend Tommy to finish his stint in prison. Sonny was a new detective, and the two of you spent a lot of time together, watching movies and cooking for each other when the other was busy.  

But as many times as you fell asleep on his couch, it never progressed beyond friendship, and your time together waxed and waned depending on if Sonny was seeing anyone.  And lately, any free time that Sonny had was spent with Nicole.  He had cancelled and rescheduled this lunch three times before it actually happened.

So you only hugged him back halfheartedly. Because you could feel him pulling away from your life more and more, and when you were nestled in his arms, even in a friendly hug, it reminded you of what you didn’t have.  Of what you’d never have.  

You pulled away after a moment, then smiled up at him. It made your heart ache to feel that you were losing him, but you could always channel that pain into your music. Maybe sell it as scoring to some sad romance movie where the woman dies at the end and the man walks away into the rain when the end credits start.

“See you around soon, stretch,” you said, trying to keep your voice light.  “And thanks for lunch.”

“Sure thing, kiddo,” he replied.  He chucked you on your shoulder, then turned and walked away.  You watched him for a moment, enjoying the sight of those jeans that really did fit him perfectly.  Once he rounded the corner and was out of sight, you checked the street both ways and jay-walked towards your own apartment.  

Because you weren’t joking about using your heartache for your music.  The sharp sting of your unreciprocated infatuation would make for a great string piece, and you already were composing the main theme in your head.

Really only watching this for Eames to hurt myself....

I still say Bobby Goren 'Moving on' from Major Case really made zero fucking since after the Criminal Intent finale. I haven't seen in like 13 years, but I remember Bobby begging for his job to not be taken away.

But I guess I'm glad Alex "decided it was time for a change" soley because that meant she could stay there without Bobby.

But still, the only thing I feel like could drive Bobby away from Major Case was either Alex rejecting him, or him just not being able to handle working with her anymore because of his feeling for her and not wanting to take the chance that he would hurt her (as established by either something Nicole said or that basketball coach, I can't remember because it's a blur right now) or he was afraid of her rejecting him.

Istg, I hope Alex went after him after that little Convo with Benson.

I love Alex so much, this episode made me really hate the SVU team for not listening to her. Like this is fucking infuriating.

I HAVE to assume Kathryn decided to put her hands behind her back in this interrogation scene. That was an acting choice, no director would ask her to do that (unless the person who directed this did CI too). That's a Goren thing and she mimicked it. And that little move there at the end? The way she lifted her head and the angle her eye site was at, and that breath she let out? Goren too. Fucking brilliant, Kathryn, geezus!

God this second interrogation. Hands behind her back? Bobby. THE FUCKING LEAN OVER?! FUCKING BOBBY! (courtesy Vincent D'onofrio) God I screamed. I knew it was coming and I screamed.

UGH. Beautiful. I wonder how much Kathryn put Bobby/Vincent into this episode. How much was her idea. Unless someone was good enough to do that themselves.

My thoughts as I‘m watching 24 seasons of law &order svu:

Season 1

Favorit Episode is definitely 1x21. The victim becoming the abuser was quite interesting. Also the fact that the actual abuser was caught at the start of the episode and barely said a word in the 44minutes.

For some reason, the episodes feel really long. Not sure if it‘s the amount of scenes or why exactly. But i feel like i‘ve just watched a movie after every episode.

There are a lot of familiar faces, also baby faces. Lance Reddick is one of them. The crazy lady from Scrubs (Nicole Sullivan). Also interesting to note, that Jennifer Esposito’s character was killed in the first season and she later comes back as a different character.

Considering i got into watching svu due to elliot and olivia. They don‘t have that many stand out secens for me on the first season. Except for the stalker episode with the OJ scene

One more thing i noticed: they ask a lot of leading questions. Wonder if that is gonna change over the years.

Law & Order Special Victims Unit Season 22 Ep. 16 "Wolves in Sheep's Clothing"

The Special Victims Unit is working to assist a single mother who is being exploited for sex to continue living in her comfortable apartment. During their investigation, they uncover that she is a victim of human trafficking and must persuade her to cooperate with them in identifying the perpetrators. In the meantime, Fin and Phoebe are making arrangements for their wedding.

Rollins walks her dog and talks to Fin about his wedding. She is happy that he is getting married. Meanwhile, a homeless womand and her son stop to pet a stranger's dog before going to a shelter. The boy feels that the shelter looks like jail. He has to do his homework outside because there is no WiFi inside. A man wearing a security hat gives them a number. The apartment is huge, and the boy is excited.

Rollins asks Carisi to officiate for Fin.

Meanwhile, the landlord is seen having sex with the woman from earlier. Ms. Swanson, a neighbour, knocks on the door and tells Rosa that their building is not that kind of place. Rosa slams the door on her. Ms. Swanson files a complaint with SVU and demands to speak with the boss. She reports to Benson that she suspects prostitution is taking place in the apartment but doesn't want the little boy to go into a shelter. Benson agrees to investigate.

Kat believes Ms. Swanson is a busybody. Fin insists they investigate regardless. Rosa denies any wrongdoing and claims Swanson is making false accusations. Fin spoke to Felipe, who said he puts on his headphones when his mom is in the bedroom. He does this because if they do anything wrong, they will be sent back to the shelter. Fin and Benson concluded that Rosa is being trafficked. Rosa refuses to speak with the police. Her son is content.

SVU obtains surveillance footage and identifies Paulie, but not the other men. SVU attempts to question a previous tenant who claims that Betty Swanson continues to cause problems even when absent and declines to identify any of the other men. Benson informs Garland that a man namend Anton, who works for Paulie, arranged for the woman to live in the apartment. However, Garland is interrupted by his assistant, who informs him that he needs to be deposed in the Brown case again.

The police visit a woman who was once homeless but now holds a doctorate in social justice to gather information about the trafficking world. She will assist them as much as possible. She will discover who runs the lottery. A Congressman's chief of staff calls her away. Rollins recognizes him as one of the men on the tape.

Carisi ends the call with Nicole. He informs Benson that Nicole believes weddings are a tool fo the patriarchy. They had an argument because he wants to get married and have children.

Garland is meeting with a chief who is angry about his desire for police reform and accuses him of thinking he's better than everyone else. After the meeting, Garland asks Benson and Carisi if they overheard anything. They discuss the case, and Garland expresses doubt that Ortiz is part of the trafficking ring. Benson suggests bringing Ortiz in. Garland states that more evidence is required before taking action against someone of such power. Benson realizes the power of word of mouth.

Rollins conducts an undercover investigation by conversing with low-income women in a laundry room. It is discovered that one of the trafficked women is the ex-girlfriend of Fin's friend who shot a man outside the courthouse. Fin and Rollins visit him to gather more information. The ultimate goal is to reunite the woman with her daughter. She claims not to recognize any of the men. According to her, she obtained the apartment legitimately. Although she initially refused to speak, she eventually revealed that Ruben Ortiz is her boyfriend and that she signed a non-disclosure agreement. She then asked them to leave.

Later, Fin expresses his frustration with Phoebe for inviting people to the wedding during the COVID pandemic.

Ortiz enters the room and asserts that his relationships are consensual and that he was informed as such. He refuses to disclose the identity. According to his lawyer, he possesses significant information about prominent individuals involved. Ortiz revealed Congressman Howard, Paulie's superior, and several other influential figures, all of whom are associated with Proud Life. Benson cautiously suggests to Garland that Marcado might be implicated, but Garland disagrees. He consents to dispatch a confidential informant.

Lulu, who was questioned by the police about Ruben, asks Marcado for a new lawyer. She believes that the police will assist her in reuniting with her daughter. Marcado reminds Lulu that she owes her a favour for what she made her do with those guys. Benson must obtain clearance from Garland despite obtaining the necessary information. Benson and Carisi spoke with Garland, who appeared upset and disappointed. He also seemd to be experiencing chest pains. McGrath and some other officers turned their backs on Garland, causing him additional stress.

During a meeting, Garland was accused of not doing his job properly due to an increase in rape arrests. He mentioned Jayvon Brown and was accused of having an inflated sense of self-worth. He was called a failure.

Meanwhile, Carisi was on the phone with Nicole, who informed him that she would not be attending the wedding. Marcado came to talk, but Carisi stated that they were not open to a deal. Marcado believes she is doing the right thing by helping homeless mothers. Benson disagrees. Carisi is willing to listen. The lawyer mentions involvement from Senators.

Rosa worries they will lose the apartment, but Benson reassures her that the bad guys are being arraigned and she can keep the apartment. Rosa is crying.

During the wedding, Carisi informs Benson that Marcado is making a deal, but he wants to rehearse for the ceremony. Rollins is concerned that she might be late.

Fin arrives with Phoebe and announces that they will not be getting married today. They have decided against it because they have a good thing going, so they will be having a non-marriage party. During the party, Chief Garland makes an appearance. Benson informs him that he did not miss anything and asks about the meeting. He responds by saying that he will be taking a few days off. The doctor has requested some tests, and the Old Guard is after him. However, he is not going to surrender without a fight.

Stabler arrived late to the ceremony and apologized. Benson updated him on what he missed.

Carisi read his officiation speech to Rollins, who had tears in her eyes. Finally, Rollins kissed him and Stabler helped Benson put on her coat before she gave him wine. Stabler asks Benson how Fin and Phoebe met. Benson explains that she was Fin's first partner. Then, she and Stabler raise their glasses to partners.

Carisi should have dumped Nicole in 22x11 for going behind his back and breaking his trust for going to the press. It was a red flag that she was gonna do something like that again. Advocate or not, she didn't trust him enough. He just wasted his time by dating her for another almost 2 months.

I was never a fan of Nicole, and her behaviour towards Carisi in that episode, going behind his back, was really not okay. I wonder if, even then, Carisi kind of knew that things weren't going to work between them ...

Are we supposed to overlook the fact a black female character was treated so carelessly just to prop up a white coupling?

nope, absolutely not! but the writers want you to!

i was actually talking with someone about this — nicole was done pretty dirty, and basically dismissed. the episode as a whole was pretty dismissive of her, and while i think the moment of the kiss itself was sweet and a fan service moment for a good chunk of the audience, we should absolutely not ignore that as far as we know, sonny is still in a relationship with nicole (who as you said is a black female character) while amanda kisses him and he reciprocates.

in fact, while we see him and nicole have a discussion about marriage that does not go the greatest, the fact that her rejecting the invitation to the wedding seems very... i don’t know, sudden? they’re both career-driven people, sure, but it’s obvious her and sonny are in a very sudden rough place when just a few episodes prior he was getting into this relationship and they did seem very supportive of each other.

as i said in my previous post, it is a character growth moment for amanda in terms of her finally realizing that sonny is right in front of her and that’s who she wants, but it comes at a pretty hefty price. kissing him while being aware of his relationship (one that is known enough that olivia is shocked that nicole isn’t coming to the wedding) and sonny’s reciprocation is done in a way to make us forget that nicole is even there — typical erasure and trodding over a black woman. she is very much USED to make amanda see the light. it sucks. it does. and it does RUIN the moment if you think about it (which again, the writers do NOT want you to, do not think about tje black woman who is at home while her boyfriend is at a wedding she thinks he’s officiating). it makes it Very uncomfortable because no matter what sonny feels, it seems out of character for him to forget he’s in a relationship.

one thing i’m worried about personally is that they’ll further use nicole as a plot device for amanda and sonny’s “relationship struggles” and try to put her in the wrong and want us to root for rollisi later while completely ignoring the fact that at this point sonny is in the wrong for kissing another woman while in a monogamous relationship.

also we are not given any clue as to where sonny and nicole’s relationship stands, nor where it stands after the kiss or ANY of the ramifications following. it’s... yeah. like i said. very fan service moment. also extremely dismissive and rude to nicole to throw her into the trash, essentially, and reduce her to nothing more than barely an obstacle. it’s gross! they could’ve just... not had him have a girlfriend for amanda’s growth? at all? or give us a chance to see nicole as a person? or just... there are so many other options.

At this point It’s either deliberate or they’re painfully tone deaf. And I know I shouldn’t have high expectations with a show like this but I’m so over it it’s not even funny anymore.

And who knows if we’re ever going to see her again?

I’m so pissed.
