Channel 4 Idents from Optical Arts on Vimeo.

Optical Arts worked with 4creative and Art Practice to direct and create five new idents for Channel 4, following their new masterbrand launch.

The idents consist of 25 unique looping scenes, designed to reflect what life is like in the UK today – through the eyes of 17 creatives, artists, and filmmakers. Each scene was developed from an open brief which invited each creator to interpret one of five themes: Identity (who we are), The Land (where we live), System (what controls us), Release (how we escape) and Love (all that really matters), with the idents being divided up into 5 sets of 5 films, each with its own distinct style and voice.

Our work is included alongside that of a diverse range of hugely talented directors, creating a unique and ambitious project, portraying a snapshot of Britain today.

Two of our scenes highlight some of the dark realities that technical advancement brings - widespread digital observation, and machine control. Whilst the other two address more human themes - the effect of serotonin on the brain and the experience of a broken heart.

We are thrilled to see our work within these idents as part of this epic and memorable project. Channel 4 have made some of the most iconic idents in TV history, and we are delighted to play a small part in continuing that legacy with this work.

Optical Arts directed and created 4 scenes: Shattering Room, Chemicals, Robotic Fulfilment Centre and Digital Tracking. Dinner Party was directed by Dan Tobin Smith, the studio’s founder.

Napoli: "Il Cinema indimenticabile", film gratis per un mese a San Giorgio a Cremano.  I film intramontabili, la storia della Settima Arte. A San Giorgio a Cremano, nel napoletano, prende il via "Il Cinema indimenticabile", rassegna gratuita curata dall'associazione Arci Movie. Trenta film e ospiti animeranno gli spazi della Fonderia Righetti nella storica Villa Bruno. Si parte il 12 luglio con una serata speciale alla presenza di Giorgio Zinno, Sindaco del Comune di San Giorgio a Cremano che patrocina l'iniziativa culturale. Sul grande schermo arrivano trenta opere cinematografiche di grande spessore che hanno avuto particolare successo negli ultimi decenni. Arci Movie, storica realtà che promuove il cinema in tutte le sue forme, li ripropone con la rassegna ospitata nell'elegante dimora sangiorgese alla quale si accederà gratuitamente. La serata di inaugurazione è mercoledì 12 luglio alle 21.15 con il film "C'è di nuovo la valigia sul letto" di Eduardo Tartaglia. Il regista sarà presente insieme al cast - Gianni Parisi, Massimo De Matteo, Veronica Mazza - e al sindaco Zinno. Poi la rassegna proseguirà fino al 10 agosto per incontrare i gusti di persone di ogni età. Così in tanti avranno l'opportunità di vedere, magari per la prima volta, le pellicole in alta definizione sul grande schermo condividendo reazioni ed emozioni della sala in presenza. Le opere saranno proiettate ogni sera, sempre alle 21:15. Il pubblico potrà apprezzare sul grande schermo i cult del cinema internazionale, i più importanti registi che ci hanno donato opere uniche. Tanti film d'oro degli anni Novanta: da "Ritorno al futuro" di Robert Zemeckis a "Pulp fiction" di Quentin Tarantino, da "Forrest Gump" dello stesso Zemeckis a "ET l'extra-terrestre" di Steven Spielberg. Non mancano capolavori come "American graffiti" di George Lucas e "La finestra sul cortile" di Alfred Hitchock. Altro appuntamento imperdibile è quello con "Scarface", film di Howard Hawks. Inoltre, la rassegna di Arci Movie porta nella speciale location di San Giorgio a Cremano anche le opere di Stanley Kubrick, "Orizzonti di gloria", e di Randal Kleiser, "Grease". E quelle di tanti altri importanti registi del panorama internazionale. Tra i film in rassegna ci sono anche quelli dedicati ai più piccoli che si proiettano ogni domenica. Così "Il Cinema indimenticabile" ripropone le avventure subacquee dei pesciolini più cinematografici della storia: in proiezione, infatti, ci sarà "Alla ricerca di Nemo", apprezzatissimo film del 2003 di Andrew Stanton. Insieme a questo anche "Toy story. Il mondo dei giocattoli" di John Lasseter e due film di Wolfgang Reitherman, "Robin Hood" e "La spade nella roccia", opere che hanno fatto la storia del cinema dedicato ai più giovani. Il pubblico potrà apprezzare anche i film selezionati per "L'Italia che non si vede", rassegna itinerante di UCCA, Unione dei Circoli Cinematografici Arci. Quattro i lungometraggi proposti: "Piccolo corpo" di Laura Samani, "Re granchio" di Alessio Rigo De Righi e Matteo Zoppis, "Il legionario" di Gieb Papou e "Margini" di Niccolò Falsetti. Si tratta di opere poco conosciute, spesso programmate brevemente soltanto nelle grandi città nonostante gli importanti riconoscimenti dei festival internazionali e le recensioni positive della stampa. Il ricco programma della rassegna mette insieme anche i cortometraggi premiati dal Fantasy Day Film Festival che seleziona le opere audiovisive del mondo fantasy come sci-fi, horror, sovrannaturale, onirico, e così via. In tale sezione si proiettano "La nueva" di Ivan Villamel, "Sir" di Maurizio Ravallese e "Bestie" di Luca Di Paolo. «Sono ormai trent'anni che Arci Movie è impegnata nella promozione del cinema in estate.
