HUBBELL AND DONOHUE COMPOSE A HALLELUJAH
January 11, 2021
Madison Hubbell and Zach Donohue have hit a sort of “Hallelujah” trifecta. Certainly they’re the first team to marry skating’s favorite versions of the Leonard Cohen composition—those of Jeff Buckley and k.d. lang—in a single program, and the first to present two separate programs to the song. And more than this, they tapped a choreographer who skated to it himself: Scott Moir, who in 2012-13 used Buckley’s version for an exhibition with partner Tessa Virtue.
The Buckley connection, though, was purely fortuitous. Last season, a year after his retirement from competition, Moir offered his first choreographic insights to former training mates Hubbell and Donohue, adding some input on a program they’d already forged with coach Marie-France Dubreuil.
The plan was always for more, given a special connection between Moir and Donohue, who first shared training space in the 2010-11 season, in Canton, Michigan, when Donohue was paired with Alissandra Aronow and Moir and Virtue had an unusual season including surgery for her and an overdue return to competition. The bond grew years later in Montreal, with Virtue and Moir training there from 2016 through 2018.
“They had something unique, where I think a lot of us train hard, we all have a very supportive quality within the school, but Zach and Scott were able to push each other a little bit, almost challenge each other to be pushing harder or motivating each other in a little bit different way,” said Hubbell. “So I think that kind of started the spark that was like, maybe this would work and maybe this would be a good addition. You know, I connect a lot with Marie in choreography and we have a lot of amazing people here, but I think that Zach was able to find a different part of himself working with Scott, and the coaches were able to see that that would be a good combination.”
Timing, however, was trickier. “It turns out that when you’re one of the most decorated skaters of all time, you got some stuff to do, so he was hard to nail down,” said Hubbell. “So I think that actually, this really strange year, where everything was on pause, was a big blessing for us because it gave Scott a lot of time that maybe he would have otherwise been using to tour or go to competitions with his own students.”

The team estimated that they’ve worked with Moir about five times now, including for four days in mid-December a week before our conversation. “It’s pretty amazing, but he always watches our competitions and gives us feedback,” said Donohue. “And he’s in close communication with Marie, so he comes in with a pretty solid plan every time. And we’re just able to breathe a little bit of life into transitions that we thought we understood and get a deeper understanding of them, another energy, a little bit more of a connection to each other within that music. And we both feel the music so well, sometimes it’s easy to get lost in it ourselves, so it’s nice to have him there to kind of give us those focus points on how we can really bring everyone into our story.”
Moir’s recent competitive experience is a boon, noted Donohue, and so too his ability in retirement to focus more on process than results. “From my standpoint of having trained with him and always only seeing the push and the drive and the intensity that is Scott Moir, it’s really interesting to see the way his mind works and the details,” he said. “The way he thinks about starting and finishing a movement, why that movement registers to him, why certain ones work and why others don’t, why they can seem disingenuous. To be able to pinpoint what it is, no, there’s no way, and even if I could, to be honest, I wouldn’t put it out there, because that’s his thing. It’s not for me to share.”
“I was surprised at his specificity,” said Hubbell. “Even now, when he was here, you know, we have the whole program set, but we might spend the entire two-hour lesson with him on one little 10-second transition, because he was very dialed into these moments that he wanted a certain way. There was no rush to get there at a certain point—he was going to spend as much time as needed to get the result that he wanted.”
But that attention to detail was also critical for the team. “That’s part of, I think, why we’re able to feel so comfortable in the piece as well,” she concluded. “Like, there aren’t any sticky moments, there aren’t things that are up in the air or like, oh, this isn’t comfortable, but just push through because it looks fine.”
Moir’s other priority has been keying in on the team’s assets. “Really committing to the fact that if we stay true to what we’re good at and what we like to perform, that that would be enough, and we don’t have to necessarily try to attain all the things from each team or be the best at everything,” said Hubbell. “We have to be the best at what we are.”
And what that is, they’ve determined, is something Moir knows a bit about: the basics. “We love stroking, we love footwork, we love edge quality more than any flashy tricks or more acrobatic moments,” she continued. “We like the human connection of looking each other in the eyes and the simplicity that can come from something that looks simple, but really isn’t simple to execute.”
The free dance made its full public debut in October, via an at-home video performance submitted to U.S. Figure Skating’s International Selection Pool Points Challenge—a new event introduced to allow elite skaters a competitive opportunity in the wake of COVID-related event cancellations. Its only traditional outing so far came at late October’s Skate America, before a live audience of judges, tech panelists, and whimsical cardboard cutouts of fans, pets, and the GEICO Gecko®. Any subsequent outside feedback has also come long-distance—thanks to video submissions to judges and the federation—but despite the uncertainties of the season beyond the U.S. Figure Skating Championships, the team has found ways to stay focused.
“I’d say that staying motivated, at least for myself, has been pretty easy because first, we chose programs that we both really enjoy performing, and second, that we really connect to,” said Donohue. “And then on top of that, we have some of our closest competition here with us. So I think that’s a pretty fortunate situation for us.”
“And especially working with an outside choreographer has helped, I think, kind of put almost competition dates in our mind,” added Hubbell. “It’s almost like those little milestones where it’s like, okay, we know Scott will come back in a month and a half and he’s left us with these projects, and now let’s develop those. And then we get feedback from him.”
The open schedule has, in its way, taught patience. “There were some moments in there that maybe the choreography was a new feeling for us, and instead of having to make it work or simplify something because a competition was coming, we were just able to really commit to the project,” she continued. “And things have remained relatively stable, which is actually, I think, better in the long term for the development of the program.”
***
There’s another bond involved here—that between Hubbell, Donohue, and “Hallelujah,” a connection they’ve discussed since first using lang’s rendition for their short dance in the 2015-16 season. It’s a song closely tied to the early days of their partnership, when Donohue would sing the piece to Hubbell to ease her nerves. In the strangeness of this year’s off-ice off-season, coach Patrice Lauzon suggested the team choose a piece for their free dance that felt like home for them, or a concept that felt underexplored. The answer—including the choice this time of Buckley—was obvious.
“I think we feel like we never really got to fully experience what ‘Hallelujah’ was or could have been because it was missing the feeling that we get… I mean, any time we’d be in the car on a road trip, we’d play one, we’d talk about the other,” said Donohue. “Play the other one, we’d talk about the other one. I mean, they were always kind of synonymous with each other because of the balance of what they brought to the other piece.”
Lang’s version, with a more pronounced 6/8 beat and warmer arrangement, was the more obvious choice for a short dance pairing a Ravensburger Waltz and march. “And it was a good time, I think, in our career, the first year of coming to these new coaches, to explore the more hopeful and outward expression of ‘Hallelujah,’” said Hubbell. But the free was another story. “We knew that the Jeff Buckley version was very important to our relationship. And the Jeff version is Zach for me—like, that is him personified. So it definitely wasn’t going to be the right program without it.”
Dubreuil asked the couple which elements of each song they most wanted to utilize, and she, Moir, and music editor Hugo Chouinard took command of the final arrangement, while Karl Hugo composed a bridging piece to connect the two versions. The full edit has remained untouched since its creation—an unusual situation for elite ice dancers in general, and particularly for Hubbell and Donohue.
“We’re usually the ones nitpicking here and there,” said Hubbell. “And I think she knew that we were so attached to this song that even talking the first time, it was like, which parts do you like? And I was like, well, I like this verse and this verse, and I definitely want to use this verse. I think she knew that she had to take an outsider’s approach. Definitely there are verses that I am very attached to myself that aren’t in that song, and I just carry that energy into the music, even though the words aren’t there.”
Musically, Buckley’s version in particular can be challenging for a skater, incorporating unusual rhythmic moments and spare instrumental backing, while the soaring vocal line and steady pace of lang’s version demands creativity to avoid any obvious choices. An inability to choreograph on ice until after the song’s final edit disrupted the team’s typical hands-on approach to working through music, elements, and layout as an ongoing process.
“Twizzles, for example, was a part where we had a completely different feeling of where it should start, and Marie said something like, ‘oh, we should start it on this music,’ and we were like—” Hubbell offered a dubious expression. “’Not sure, that seems like the weirdest accent to start.’ And then we tried it, and it was like, wow.” So too, she said, with the choreographic sliding move that closes the program.
The outcome has been a program with each element custom-set to the music, intricately woven with even the subtlest accents—even if it means scrapping planned work. “We had a lift in mind that we wanted to put in, and we’ve been working on it throughout the season,” she continued. “And as cool as the lift is, it doesn’t seem to fit. It’s like too dynamic for the quietness of the music, so I think it goes into the log for another year.”
“Hallelujah” itself is often custom-modified by its interpreters. Leonard Cohen claimed to have composed around 80 verses for the song, shifting lines in and out in live performance and giving future artists an opening to craft the story they most wish to emphasize. Hubbell and Donohue similarly prefer to leave their own program open to viewer interpretation.
“We chose it because it’s something very personal and it’s very home for us, and even in the creation of the program with Scott, he never asked to go too far into that bubble,” said Hubbell. But for the team, the messages conveyed by Buckley and lang transcend words.
“[Buckley] has this kind of broken vulnerability about him,” said Donohue. “Like, you hear his voice, and you just kind of don’t move. Even the way he just exhales in the very beginning of the music—we didn’t cut that out because we really felt like it set the tone for what he was feeling and the way he was expressing the lyrics.”
Hubbell finds in Buckley’s rendition a sense of loss, “a painful kind of plea,” whereas lang’s version offers a sense of catharsis. “Jeff’s, each verse, you just feel a little bit more broken inside, a little bit more empty,” she said. “It’s part of why we put Jeff at the beginning, because we felt like we needed to build to a moment of, okay, everything is going to be okay. We all go through this, and there’s light on the other side.”
And then there’s the sense of subject matter—the interpretations of “Hallelujah,” of course, ranging from the spiritual to the sensual.
Of Buckley’s, Hubbell noted, “there’s an intimate, more of a human quality, where I feel like he’s singing about someone or about a lover. There are moments in that song where it feels so much more of a human to human connection. And then k.d.’s, where it really feels ethereal. It feels like she’s singing to God, it feels like she’s asking for some help or some guidance from something that is not understood.”
And while Hubbell and Donohue’s free dance is the merging of two musical perspectives, it’s good to remember that so, too, is its design—Moir joined by the veteran Dubreuil.
“For me,” said Hubbell, “working with them and doing their choreography, it’s like Scott is the Jeff Buckley version and Marie-France is the k.d. lang version. Scott has this grounded, very real—like, there’s no faking the emotion, there’s no contrived story, there’s just real connection, intimacy. You know, just that kind of earthy version that is Jeff Buckley. And working with Marie-France is a lot more giving, it’s a lot more bringing something to the audience that’s watching you, open and graceful and specifically very feminine.”
It’s been said that “Hallelujah” is a song that didn’t quite find its own final form until transformed by new interpretations—first by John Cale, who inspired Jeff Buckley, the impact of whose version then, on some level, inspired many others that followed.
And while it’s easy to look at one team’s free dance as a revision, or perhaps addendum, to an earlier short, it’s more compelling to consider the idea of a genetic thread between interpreters. As Cohen begat Cale begat Buckley and lang, Virtue and Moir’s own “Hallelujah” was choreographed by Marina Zoueva, who injected into that exhibition a few moves drawn from decorated pair Ekaterina Gordeeva and Sergei Grinkov. Hubbell and Donohue’s free in turn carries not only Moir and Dubreuil’s DNA, but echoes of their forebears. The complex but intimate transitions would’ve suited any Virtue and Moir free dance of the early 2010s; the emphasis on utilizing every inch of music through contemporary dance is a legacy of Jennifer Swan and Guillaume Cote.
But my own investment in identifying the program’s intricacies, from musical nuance to choreographic accent, is also just another way of interpreting the enigma that is “Hallelujah.”
“We hope that when people watch it, they have their own experience,” said Hubbell. “Even for us, each time we skate it or practice it, it can bring out a different feeling based on what we’re going through in that moment, so I don’t think there’s a story that should be known. I mean, ‘Hallelujah,’ for me, is like life. Whatever you need it to mean for you in that moment is what it should mean.”

Catch up with Chapter 12
**
The boys had no clue about your plan. Frankly, no one knew what your plan was. You weren’t trying to be secretive, no, you just didn’t want all the fuss. One week was more than enough time to host someone in your home. Two weeks was outlandish. You would simply tell them later in the week that you were staying in Boston for an additional week. On your own.
You had rented a one bedroom apartment in the city near the harbor. Chris had been putting a lot of extra effort into your relationship recently by coming to stay with you every few weeks. You wanted to see if Boston was a place you could see yourself spending a lot of time in. Staying with Scott or Chris for the second week wouldn’t really allow for you to see if you could be comfortable there by yourself. You wanted to check out the coffee shops, parks, and small eateries. You had read through numerous travel sites and blogs by locals who boasted the neighborhoods that were not only hip, but had low crime rates.
Chris had gone back to Massachusetts from his latest visit just over a week ago and you had already begun to miss him. When he sent you a text three days after leaving, telling you he was missing you, you instantly felt relieved. The two of you had spent a lot of time talking on his visits which ultimately brought you closer. He slept in your bed all three days of this last trip, never pressing for more than a cuddle and a few kisses. Chris spent a great amount of time talking with you into the early morning hours about how it would be when he was away filming. The two of you would need to survive on Skype or Facetime as he was often away for months at a time. He said that you could visit him on set, but your time together would be limited.
The additional week in Boston was born from the vacation time you had to use or lose with the Orlando Sentinel. Asia was quick to agree that your start date with News Now could begin a few days after you returned from your trip. Having the ability to work from anywhere was a huge positive. Your lease would be coming up for renewal in February and you were honestly struggling with staying or leaving Orlando.
Central Florida had been your home for sixteen years, but you were still only renting. That had to mean something. You didn’t miss the long winters of Minnesota, but you did miss your family. Minnesota felt safe and comfortable for a place to start over again, but you still weren’t sure that was the right step for you. Logically, it was too soon to move to Boston. You were never the girl to move somewhere for a guy. Chris was one of the people closest to you, but the two of you were barely a couple. But why the hell was your heart telling you to give it a shot? At least you had a couple of months to figure it all out.
**
You had swung by Krispy Kreme on the way to Jana’s office armed with a coupon for half off a dozen. Not that you needed a dozen donuts, but a deal was a deal. That’s how you’d always been. You weren’t one of those coupon clippers, but you always shopped on sale and always looked in the clearance section. If there was a bargain to be had, you were a willing participant. This is why even looking at places to rent for the long term in Boston frightened you. Sticker shock was an understatement. You could buy a new, large family home in the suburbs of Minneapolis for the same price you could purchase a studio apartment in Boston. Technically, you could look outside of the city, but that’s something you’d have to think about later when a decision needed to be made.
“I brought food,” you greeted her, shoving the box in her face as she signed you in to the building.
“That’s not food.”
“You can eat it Jana. I’m pretty sure Brooks consumes these five days a week.”
“Fine. Maybe just one,” she replied, reaching into the box and pulling out a glazed one once you got to her office. You gave her a satisfied smirk before grabbing one for yourself. “You ready to work with Brooks again?”
“Is one ever ready? But seriously, I didn’t exactly work with him when he was at the paper so even now I still won’t see him,” you shrugged, taking a huge bite and promptly licking your fingers to Jana’s dismay.
“When are you starting again?”
“Like the twenty eighth. Some time that week. I’m going to try to have something to submit that week. Maybe about my time in Boston. Who knows?”
“You call me the workaholic, yet you’re working on vacation,” Jana said.
“Well, I’m nervous as shit, so I just want to be ready to go with something.”
With promises of dinner together when you returned, you left her office with the box of donuts in hand. Rather than heading straight for the elevator, you decided to stop by Ethan’s office. His door was open, but he was engrossed in a law book.
“Hey,” you called out loud enough for him to hear you but soft enough not to startle him.
He looked up, grinning when he saw it was you. “How are you?”
“Good. I’ve come to tempt you with sugar,” you said holding up the box.
“No bribing needed. Whaddaya got?”
“A little bit of everything,” you said, stepping into the room and placing the box on the desk. You opened it for him to pick. He quickly pulled out one of the custard filled ones, moaning at the taste.
“Thank you,” he murmured, mouth still full.
You gave him an honest smile. Speaking to him the last time you were in the office really got rid of that tension about seeing him.
“You’re welcome.”
“What are you up to?” he asked.
“How much time do you have?” you asked.
“For you? As much as you need.” He gestured to one of the empty chairs in front of his desk.
You told him about the new job and how much you were looking forward to the change. You left out the part about possibly moving since nothing was set in stone, so there was no need to get into that.
“I’m sorry Y/N,” he started, you giving him a questioning look. “When I said that stupid thing about your job. 100% didn’t mean it. I was just angry and I aimed low. You’re a great writer. I read everything you wrote when we were together, and I still read it today.”
You gave him a small smile. “Thanks for saying that. And you still read it?” you asked surprisingly.
“Got to get my Disney news from a reliable source,” he shrugs.
**
Boston’s weather seems to be all over the place with predictions for the next two weeks being anywhere from the fifties to the low seventies. You packed a large suitcase and your trusty leather carryon with a few sweaters, sweatshirts, t-shirts, jeans, leggings and a couple pairs of short boots. You’ll wear your sneakers to the airport. At least that’s one less thing to pack. You’re staying with Scott and Zach, but you toy over bringing your cute yet flirty pajamas and lingerie. You and Chris aren’t exclusive, at least not technically. He told you he isn’t seeing anyone else and isn’t planning on either. But the words boyfriend and girlfriend or partner haven’t been uttered. Taking a guess, he’s most likely waiting for you to say it since he doesn’t want to push you. You’re not even sure how much you’ll be seeing him this trip. He said he’ll be around, but never made actual plans with you. Picking up your cell, you shot him a text.
Y/N: When am I seeing you in Boston.
Chris: All the time?
The fact that he adds that question mark makes you laugh.
Y/N: Well, we never made plans, so I wasn’t sure if you have stuff going on all week.
Chris: You’re such a dork. You’re coming to my town and you have to question when you’re going to see me?
Y/N: I thought it was Scott’s town, you know, since I’m staying with him.
Chris: What?!
Chris: That’s not fair. You didn’t even give me the chance to offer 😔
Y/N: My poor baby. I’ll be sure to kiss it all better.
Chris: You better
Yep, you were packing the cute underwear.
**
You sent Scott a text as soon as you landed.
Scott: On my way. White BMW.
Grabbing your bag from the conveyer belt, you grabbed a coffee before going out to short term parking where he said he’d meet you. The temperature was a cool sixty-three degrees, so you were dressed in a cozy hunter green sweater, jeans, and browns boots. You thought about throwing on a jacket, but figured the boys would tease you. Minnesota you would have teased you, but you’d been in Florida too long now. Sixty was cold.
Crossing over to the ramp, you looked around for a white BMW as instructed. A sudden honk jolted you, causing coffee to spurt out through the cup’s cover.
“Mother fucker!” you whispered to yourself.
The offending driver jumped out of the car, jogging toward you. “Shit! Sorry!” It was Chris rather than Scott. NASA hat on his head, Pats sweatshirt, and jeans. The epitome of casual, yet it he looked good.
When does he not look good?
“You scared the shit out of me,” you said, dropping your carryon to the ground and hugging him with your free hand. “I should be smacking you rather than hugging you.”
“M’sorry. Wanted to surprise you,” he said pulling away.
You kissed the pout on his lips, Chris smiling as soon you pulled back. He bent down grabbing your bag from the ground and then grabbed the handle on your suitcase. You followed behind him, admiring the view.
He really is America’s Ass.
The drive to Scott’s didn’t take long. He had a large two-bedroom condo in the city. Parking was a challenge, but Scott had purchased a second spot a year ago and since Zach wasn’t’ home, Chris parked there.
He grabbed your two bags while you easily toted your purse and now empty coffee cup into the building’s entrance and up the elevator. Chris walked in without knocking, but you supposed Scott knew you were coming since you did text him when you landed.
“I brought you a gift!” Chris called out.
Scott walked into the entry and living room giving you a big smile. “Oh. Is there a return policy?”
“You are such a brat!” you spat out. “Does your mother have room at her place? Feel like I’d getting a warmer welcome there.”
“Sassy, don’t give me no lip. You know I love you,” Scott said, pulling you into a hug. You let your arms hang to give him that bit of attitude, plus you still had your purse and cup in hand.
“Ahuh, love you too,” you replied.
Scott showed you to your room for the week while Chris followed behind, setting your bags on the floor. Light blue walls with dark wood furniture made up the room. A queen size bed placed in the center with a chest of drawers sat on the opposite wall. A relatively large flat screen TV mounted to the wall above the chest. On each side of the bed were a matching set of night stands. A vase of white daisies sat on the right-hand side.
“Bathroom is across the hall. Dinner is at six. Don’t be late. No fucking in your room,” he said, pointing between you and Chris, closing the door as he left. “Or at least be quiet about it,” he said through the door.
Chris looked at you with raised eyebrows while you shook your head. “Uh, we don’t have to,” he said.
“Well, definitely not now.”
“Yeah. Yeah, totally. That’s just Scott,” Chris said, shrugging. He was nervous and it made you smile.
Chris stayed for dinner but left around eight kissing you breathless before wishing you a goodnight.
**
Scott, Zach and yourself hit the road early starting with the Freedom Trail, making sure to see the graves of Samuel Adams, John Hancock, and Paul Revere before stopping at the Old State House. Chris had wanted to join the three of you, but when you mentioned he would draw in a crowd being that you would be surrounded by tourists, he was quick to change his mind.
Scott brought you to Beacon Hill where you fell in love with the architecture of the beautiful brick homes. When he told you the average price, you choked on your breath, quickly deciding it wasn’t anywhere you would be able to live.
You moved on to Charles Street, stopping in a few shops to buy something for Jana as well as yourself. When it was time for lunch, Scott and Zach brought you to Cheers bar on Beacon Hill. Scott told you there actually two locations, this one was used for the exterior shots for the show. It was everything you imagined it would be. You were too young to enjoy the show when it aired originally, but picked up on the reruns when you were in your late twenties.
Harvard University was as grand and as beautiful as you imagined it would be bathed in the gorgeousness that is fall. You treated to the boys to ice cream, finding a nice spot on a grassy lawn filled with students and tourists alike. Scott took a few pictures of you with ice cream cone in hand and red and orange leaves all around you. You did the same for each of them. The spontaneous photoshoot turned into a leaf fight as Zach dumped a large handful on Scott’s head.
**
Nervous seemed like such an inadequate word to describe how you were feeling. You weren’t even a nail biter but you couldn’t keep your thumb out of your mouth as you chewed the corner repeatedly.
“Would you stop it? You’ve met her,” Scott said, taking his eyes off the road briefly to look at you.
“Yeah and she thought I was some floozy.” Scott snorted. “Do people still say floozy?”
“I’m pretty sure they don’t. And you know that’s because she didn’t know you were you. It’ll be fine. She loves you. I talk about you all the time. Well, not all the time, but I talk about you and she loves you.” You took a deep breath. “Now keep that finger out of your mouth. She will judge you for jagged fingernails.”
“Such a brat,” you said softly.
“Me? Do I need to have Chris take you and all your luggage back to his place tonight? Why’d you pack so much anyway? Must’ve packed like three winter coats or somethin’.”
“Shuddup,” you murmured. You’d only been in town for four nights and weren’t planning on having this conversation until Friday. “Was going to tell you later, but might as well tell you now. But do not tell Chris. I will tell him later,” you warned.
“Sounds serious,” he said.
“You know how with this new job I can pretty much work from where ever I’d like?” Scott nodded his head. “I’m still trying to figure that all out. Not that I don’t love Florida. Jana and Brooks are my family there, but I’m thinking it might be time to make a change. I thought about Minnesota since my parents and brother are there, but I also wanted to see how I’d like Boston.”
“What are you gettin’ at Y/N?”
“I’m staying in town next week. I rented an apartment to see if I feel comfortable here.”
Scott let out a low whistle. “Chris is going to be pissed,” he sing-songed the last word.
“You think?” you asked.
“Oh yeah.”
“Like pissed because I’ve thought about maybe splitting my time here or moving here?”
“Oh god, no. He’d probably love the fuck out of that. He’s going to be pissed you aren’t staying with him.”
You didn’t even think of that. The idea of having your own space to see if you’d like being here was still the right decision, but he was right. Chris would probably be upset you didn’t tell him what you were thinking. And he’d probably be mad you weren’t staying with him.
“Shuddup,” you said again.
**
“Ma! Your favorite son and Sassy are here,” Scott called out after opening the front door to his mother’s house.
“I’m already here,” Chris called from what looked like the kitchen. He walked into the entryway pulling you into a hug. “Missed you.”
“You just saw me at breakfast,” you replied, kissing his lips quickly before anyone else came in the room.
“Still missed you.” He interlaced your fingers and pulled you toward the kitchen. “Cah’mon.”
Lisa, the boy’s mother was in front of the stove, a few pans sizzling on the burners. It smelled delicious, so you knew you were in for a good meal.
“Y/N, it’s nice to see you again. How are you enjoying your stay?” she said turning to face you.
It was all so formal, you instantly jumped into interview mode.
“It’s been quite wonderful. Scott’s been a great host,” you replied.
She smiled warmly and went back to her pans.
“When are the girls getting here?” Scott asked.
“Should be here soon. Why don’t the three of you show Y/N around?”
Chris gave you the tour while Scott plopped himself on the sofa in the family room.
“And this was my room,” he said, opening the door. It was set up as a guestroom with a full-size bed pressed against the center of the far wall.
“So, is this where the Sandra Bullock poster used to hang?” you said pointing at the ceiling.
“Et tu, Brute? Never going to live that down.” Chis said, shaking his head.
“Oh, everyone does it babe. I’m pretty sure I had a couple of NSYNC pictures torn from magazines hanging on my walls. I know I had one of Joey Lawrence.”
“Joey Lawrence?” he chuckled.
“He looked good in Blossom when I was a kid. He had great hair.”
“Yeah? What do you think of my hair?”
You ran your fingers through his hair, giving the end a slight tug. “This hair?” you said softly, your face close to his. “This hair, I can’t get enough of. Probably the sexiest head I’ve seen in a week.”
“A week? You runnin’ your fingers through someone else’s hair?” he asked, his breath hot against your lips.
“Wouldn’t dream of it.”
He pressed his lips against yours. Arms instantly tugging you closer while you kept one hand in his hair and the other around his neck. Kissing Chris would never get old. He walked backwards until his legs hit the edge of the mattress, lowering himself down and pulling you onto his lap. You wrapped your arms around his neck, his hands instantly going to your ass as he pulled you to straddle him closer. A moan broke from your throat, catching you off guard.
“That’s it baby,” Chris whispered, lips attaching themselves to your jaw.
Instantly you were reminded that you were indeed in his mother’s house. The same mother who thought you were just a hook up when she first met. You sighed, loosening your grip from around his neck. Chris continued to kiss across your jaw and down your neck.
“We’re in your mother’s house babe,” you said.
“And?” he muttered into your neck.
“And, she probably wouldn’t appreciate this going on in her guestroom.”
He pulled back a bit, finding your lips and placing a kiss there. “I beg to differ, but I suppose this isn’t how you want to meet my sisters.”
“Nope,” you said, popping the p. You crawled off his lap and a ran a hand through your hair. It was a good thing that you only had on lip balm, because surely had it been lipstick it would have been a mess on your face. You tugged at your sweater, making sure the neck was straightened before turning back to Chris and smiling. “Why don’t I spend the night at that construction zone you’re calling a house tomorrow night?”
“Really?” he asked, eager smile on his face.
“Yes, really.” You’d tell Chris tomorrow about your extended stay. It would just be the two of you tomorrow, so it would be easier to talk to him about your thoughts on possibly moving. You hoped he’d be honest with his feelings on it as well.
The two of you made your way back to the family room, immediately spying Chris’ sisters. Scott told you tonight’s dinner would just be the siblings as his mom wanted to keep it small and casual as they got to know you. Saturday would have the whole Evans’ clan in attendance for a potluck type lunch.
“Nice of you two to finally join us,” Chris greeted Carly and Shanna.
“We’re on time, you’re just always early,” Shanna said.
“Wait until you have kids. You’ll see how long it takes to get out of the house,” Carly spat.
“Anyway. This is my girlfriend Y/N. Y/N, these are my sisters Carly and Shanna.”
Whoa. Girlfriend. I guess he’s saying it first.
You felt your face heat up, but you quickly extended your hand to Carly first who pulled you into a hug and then passed you to Shanna who did the same.
“Great to meet the often talked about Sassy,” Shanna said with a giggle.
“Oh boy. Hopefully only good things,” you replied.
“Maybe. Siblings never rat each other out, so we simply can’t say,” Carly added shrugging her shoulders.
“You know damn well, no one is saying anything bad about you Sassy. It’s  Chris that needs to worry,” Scott said. Shanna instantly nodding in agreement.
“Let’s get a drink!” Carly said, putting her arm around your shoulder and dragging you to the kitchen.
With beers in hand, the five of you went back into the family, sandwiching between Chris and Shanna on the couch. A few minutes later Lisa came and joined you. “Dinner in ten minutes kids,” she said, squishing next to Scott on a large oversized chair.
“Sounds good, Ma,” Chris said.
“What are you kids talking about?”
“We were just getting ready to interrogate Y/N,” Carly said, giving you a wink.
“No, we most certainly were not,” Chris said, putting his arm around you and pulling you close.
You chuckled lightly, patting his thigh with your hand. “Babe, it’s fine.” You pulled away and looked at each of the three women. “What would you like to know?”
“Dinner’s almost ready, why don’t we wait until we sit down?” Lisa offered.
**
With dinner on the table, you readied yourself for an onslaught of questions.
“So, you’re from Florida?” Carly asked.
“Actually, I’m from Minnesota. I moved to Florida for college and just stayed.”
“And you’re a Disney person?” Shanna asked.
“Absolutely,” you smiled. “I worked, well, still work for the Orlando Sentinel covering anything and everything Disney parks. I’m not sure if the guys told you I recently took a different job, but I’ll still be covering some Disney parks’ news.”
“They did. Congratulations Y/N. It sounds like it was a change you were looking to make,” Lisa said.
“It was. I love covering the parks, but I’ve written a lot of current events articles for various magazines and I’d really like to delve into that.”
Chris squeezed your knee pulling your attention to him. He beamed at you, literally beamed. You knew he was happy for you but this told you that he was happy with how this meeting was going.
“Do you have any siblings?” Shanna asked.
“I have one brother and his name is Heath. He’s three years younger than me. And I have a bunch of cousins that are all around our age, so they always felt like siblings growing up.”
“Are you all still close?” Lisa asked.
“My brother and I are, but it gets harder to keep in touch with my cousins as we get older.”
“Have you ever been married?” Shanna inquired.
“Shanna!” Chris hissed.
You looked at Chris and gave him a smile. “It’s fine. No, I’ve never been married nor engaged. I’ve had a couple of long-term relationships, but not in the last few years.”
Shanna smiled, apparently satisfied with your answer.
**
After dinner, you offered to help Lisa with pouring coffee and dishing up the cake she had made.
“Y/N, I just wanted to apologize for that day I met you in Epcot. I didn’t treat you fairly and I honestly feel awful about it.” She turned away from the cake to face you. “Scott has always spoken so highly of you. I truly am sorry that I wasn’t as welcoming as I should have been.” Lisa stepped closer to you, grabbing both of your hands with hers. “Chris hadn’t mentioned that you were the same friend that Scott had told me about. So, when he said he was meeting up with a friend, I was a little annoyed. I thought that this friend was someone that he just had met, so I was disappointed it was taking time away from the kids.” She chuckled softly. “That sounds awful. It’s not that Christopher does that regularly. He never does that.” She took a breath and started again. “Oh boy, I’m probably getting him into trouble with you.” You chuckled at her words and shook your head. “My point is, I’m sorry and I hope we can be friends because you are obviously a very important woman in both my sons’ lives.”
“No hard feeling at all and I hope we can be friends as well.” You leaned forward and wrapped your arms around here. She quickly followed suit, patting your back gently with one hand.
“Are we getting cake or what?” Chris asked, stepping into the room. “Didn’t know I was breaking up a Hallmark moment.”
“Har-har Christopher. Come grab some of these plates,” Lisa said.
Chris stepped close to you, grabbing a plate while you poured another cup of coffee. “Everything okay?”
“Completely,” you said with a smile.
**
“Are you really leaving me for my brother?” Scott asked in his best daytime soap opera voice.
“Well, I’ve seen him naked, so...” you trailed off, shrugging your shoulders.
“All you had to do was ask,” Scott offered.
“I’m sure Zach and Chris would love to hear that.” You patted his head, grabbing your carryon bag from the couch, making sure you had everything for the night. “I’ll be back with you tomorrow night for our best friends sleep over party like we planned. No boys allowed except for you.”
“Damn right! I’ll be sure to stock up on raspberry vodka.”
“No! Only wine. I learned my lesson when you got me drunk.” Scott scoffed, but waved you off. Chris was down stairs circling the block since he couldn’t find a spot to park. “Tell Zach when he gets up from his nap that I’ll see him tomorrow.”
“I will. Have fun and use protection!” Scott yelled out. You promptly flicked him off and shut the door.
**
Chris’ house was beautiful, even if it was being remodeled. The rooms that were currently being redone were the two guestrooms, the office, a guest bathroom, and the deck.
“See, you totally could have stayed here the whole time. Plenty of space for just you and me.”
The two of you were laying on his really comfortable couch. You between his legs and back against his chest. He kissed your neck and you hummed.
“Well, I remember someone telling me his house was practically unlivable. Then Scott offered and who am I to refuse? You’ll just have to have me stay another time.”
“Oh, I will,” he replied, then kissed your neck again.
“Your house is gorgeous. I really love this room and I’m sure this wall of windows out to the deck will look even better when it’s finished.”
“It’s going to be great. Like a second living space. At least that’s what the designer tells me. How are you likin’ Boston?”
You turned to face him slightly, tucking one leg underneath yourself. You licked your lips nervously.
Now or never.
“Actually, I wanted to talk to you about that.”
“Okay, what’s on your mind?”
“Now, don’t get mad,” you started, Chris raising his eyebrows. “That’s not what I mean. Um. Okay, so you know how I mentioned that with this new job, I can spend time here with you or I could spend time with my family and work at the same time?” He nodded his head. “Well, I’m thinking about maybe relocating. I’m not sure what I want to do yet and I don’t need to make a decision right away. My lease isn’t even up until February.”
Chris face lit up, his smile as big as you’ve ever seen it. “What are you saying, Y/N. You movin’ here?”
“Not sure yet, that’s what I’m getting at. I’m staying in Boston another week.”
“You want to stay with me?”
“That’s the thing. I gotta make sure I’m comfortable being here. You’re not always here. Months at a time when you’re filming even. So, I actually rented an apartment for a week to see if I like the area.”
“Sweetheart, you could still stay with me and figure out if this is the place you want to be.”
“I know, but if I did move here, I’d have my own place so I wanted to get the feel of it. I didn’t mention it to you or Scott because I didn’t want you both insisting that I stay with you.” Chris narrowed his eyes at you. “Don’t give me that look. It’s way too early for me to be moving in with you. We both know that.”
“Fine. You’re probably right,” he murmured.
“Maybe I can cook you dinner at my pretend apartment next week,” you offered.
“You better. Don’t think you’re staying a whole ‘nother week and not seeing me almost every day.”
“Babe,” you sighed out. “The whole point of me staying another week is to see if I can get along on my own. If we are hanging out every day, that’s not how life is always going to be.”
“Five days.”
“Two days,” you offered.
“Two days?! Sweetheart…Four days.”
“Three, and that’s my final offer,” you concluded.
“Deal. But that’s you and me time. No Scott.”
“That’s fine by me. But it’s not an all-day deal. I want to try to work.”
“Yes ma’am,” he said, grabbing your face and pulling it to his lips.
“Let’s go to bed,” you said, standing up and pulling him up with your hand. The two of you walked into his room, you slipping into the en suite.
You pulled off your sweater, cami, and jeans, folding them neatly and placing them on the far side of the vanity. You took a deep breath, admiring the see-through black bra and matching panties. You were ready to be intimate with Chris again and you hoped he was feeling the same. Giving yourself one last look, you ran your fingers through your hair and pinched your cheeks. You were feeling confident and you hoped it showed. Taking one more deep breath, you steadied yourself and opened the bathroom door, walking back in the room to Chris who had changed into a t-shirt that he wore with his boxers.
“Sweetheart,” he said with a shaky breath.
“Hi, Chris,” you said, moving closer to him. He sprung to his feet to stand in front of you. Your hands went to his chest, placing both palms on him. “Make love to me.”
It came out more like a statement than a question and you were proud of yourself in that moment. Chris visibly gulped, licking his lips, he nodded. His arms instantly wrapped around you, caging yours to his body.
“Oh sweetheart, I’ve missed you,” he said softly. His lips trailed from yours to your neck, back up to that spot behind your ear that made your knees shake. He walked you to the bed, gently laying you down with him coming to lay beside you. His knee went between your legs opening you up to him. One hand caressed your pussy over your panties as he mouthed your nipple through your bra, causing goosebumps to erupt down your body. “Are you sure?” he asked.
“Yes, god yes. I want you babe,” you moaned as his mouth went to your other breast.
While the first time the two of you were together was fun and full of nervous energy, this time was the two of you truly making love. Chris took his time worshiping your body. It was slow and soft and you knew that it was absolutely right.
**
Lisa’s home was stuffed to capacity, much of the guests spilling into the backyard. It wasn’t just the Evans clan in attendance today. Everyone brought friends who they considered family. The names of everyone you met started to swirl together. The family was easy enough to get down as you met the kids back in May. Carly’s husband, Shanna’s boyfriend, a few cousins, and uncle were added to the list. Chris had a few buddies there as well as Scott that they introduced you to. Everyone was warm and welcoming and you felt at ease as they all seemed to want to get to know you. These were the important people in Chris’ life, so they were important to you as well.
Chris was relaxed which you loved to see. He had a few beers but wasn’t out of control. When you were around each other, he kept a hand on you. On your back. On your side. Around your shoulders. On your cheek. It was sweet and welcome, especially after the night you spent together.
You decided to stick to lemonade during the day, switching to white wine as the day went on. Getting drunk in front of these people wasn’t something you wanted to do even if Scott was trying to make that happen. He’d walk by with a bottle in hand and you’d quickly cover the top of your glass with your hand. It was slumber party night back at Scott’s, one of you had to be responsible enough to drive you home later.
One person you hadn’t even thought of meeting was Courtney. It was foolish of you to forget about her since Scott had told you she had been a long-time friend of the family, not to mention Chris’ on and off girlfriend for years. You wanted to like her and you wanted her to like you. It was such a weird thought to have. She’s Chris’ ex after all. She had been around for his other girlfriends including his longer relationships.
“Y/N, this is Courtney,” Scott introduced.
She gave you a polite smile and a wave which you returned. “The famous Sassy! I’ve seen you on Scott’s Instagram account,” she said.
Okay. This isn’t so bad.
“That would be me. It’s nice to meet you.”
She was prettier in person than she was in pictures. The kind of girl that didn’t need makeup but wore it anyway and it only enhanced her natural beauty. She was dressed casually in jeans and sweater, yet she looked unbelievably put together.
“You in town long?” she asked.
“Another week, then I’m back to the warmth,” you said with a smile.
“Suppose this is quite the change for you. Plus, the Evans family can be quite overwhelming.”
Scott scoffed at that, pushing her shoulder. “Only some of the Evans’ are overwhelming. I’m wonderful.”
You grabbed him around the waist, kissing his shoulder. “You sure are sweetie,” you said sarcastically, earning a laugh from Courtney.
Scott excused himself, leaving you and Courtney to chat. She was nice and sweet and easy to talk to.  You immediately understood why she remained friends with the family when her and Chris broke up the first time. It was still odd in away to be friendly with your boyfriend’s ex, but if everyone else loved her, you needed to give it a shot. Boyfriend. That was another thing. Chris was your boyfriend. You really liked the sound of that.
It was close to seven and Scott was itching to take off. He wanted to order pizza and have a dance party. Zach was staying with Chris for the night so the two of you could have that sleep over. You both had great boyfriends to put up with you. Confiscating Scott’s keys earlier in the day, you went in search of Chris to tell him goodbye.
You found Chris with a few of his friends you had met early in the day along with Courtney standing on the patio outside. Chris was telling a story, animated as ever. His arms flailing about, head tipped back as he laughed at his own joke. You stood back to admire him as he had the group enthralled with whatever tale he was telling. Courtney stepped forward, wrapping an arm around his middle. It seemed innocent at first until she placed a hand on his sweater clad chest, hand trailing lightly. Chris looked down at her hand and then to her face, neither of them noticing you had stepped outside. He lifted her hand from his chest, much to her surprise, and then stepped out of her embrace. “I have a girlfriend,” he said softly, but you still heard it.
“I’m sorry, I didn’t know.” Courtney quickly replied.
You wanted to escape without being seen. It definitely felt like a moment you weren’t meant to witness even though you were happy with the outcome. You were mere inches from the patio doors when Scott popped out, calling out your name drawing the attention of the group standing nearby.
“Hey sweetheart,” Chris said, leaving the group and walking up to you, kissing your temple to greet you. You wrapped an arm around his middle and leaned into him. “Are you taking off?”
“M’hmm,” you replied. “Just coming to say goodnight.”
“I’ll walk you out,” he said.
“Hey, Y/N? Can I talk to you for a moment?” Courtney asked. You turned around to see a small frown on her face.
You nodded your head. “Sure.” You squeezed Chris’ hand. “I’ll see you inside,” you said to him.
Courtney followed you further into the backyard, taking a seat on a small bench.
“I’m not sure what you may have seen, but I wanted to apologize. I had my arms around Chris and If I had known he was with someone, I wouldn’t have been as handsy as I just was. That’s not me and I don’t want you to get that impression of me. M’sorry and I hope that you can accept my apology.”
Scott had not introduced you to Courtney as Chris’ girlfriend, so you did believe that she didn’t know and she did seem sincere. You didn’t want things to be weird, especially if you did end up moving here at some point.
“Already forgotten. I’d like for us to be friends, so no hard feelings,” you replied.
“Thank you,” she said, giving you a soft smile.
Both of you stood up, you walking back into the house and Courtney staying outside. Chris intertwined your hand with his, walking both of you out the front door to Scott’s car. He pulled you into a rocking hug, before pulling back, placing both palms on your cheeks and kissing you deeply.
“I’ll see you Monday for our day one of three?” he asked with a grin.
“I’d like that.” You kissed him again before climbing into the driver’s seat of the car. Scott already asleep in the passenger’s seat.
“Oh, Scott,” you said, shaking your head. He was lucky his car had GPS and you had his address.

hi💕 did you get my ask yesterday? anyway it’s okay if you didn’t, i just got another idea because i’m feeling shitty today, what about chris and you liking each other but you don’t want to say anything because you don’t feel worthy of him so when he insinuates you just dismiss him and he thinks you don’t like him like super angsty but happy ending?
This one was fun, I hope I got that bit of angsty feel to it, while keeping it light hearted. If he ever told me he had feelings for me, I would be all adkfjakldfjqier HOT MESS. Lol. If you like this kind of theme, @jtargaryen18 has a great chapter one with this feel called Jealous Guy with Chris x Reader. Its so good!
Tumblr media
You looked at Chris as you popped open his fridge, and stuck your head in. “Buddy, if you are out of beer before this bbq even begins, can we even call it a bbq?” Straightening and looking at the thread bare shelves, you arch a brow. Did he even eat?
“Its out in the garage Y/N, trust me I know better then not to have beer.” He rolls his eyes at you, making burger patties and setting them on a platter, a splash of Worcester sauce, salt, pepper. Yea good enough. You make your way to the garage through the kitchens side door and grab two bottles. Okay, thats better. He had a full fridge in the garage, as well as the extras to bring out into the back yard when they go to set up.
Going back in, you make sure the door is firmly shut, outside was sweltering already, and you considered the idea that you all maybe should have extra ice on hand. “Yes I got plenty of ice to” Chris says with a grin as he rips off some saran wrap and covers the burgers before handing you the platter to place into his fridge.
“I promise, I only asked you here to hang out. I got all the rest covered." Chris moved to wash his hands and you hip check the fridge shut.
"Okay! Okay! I give! I'm here.... Only as a guest...."
He paused, knowing it was coming.
".... Who feels like she should help you get ready."
That earned you a hand towel being chucked at you, the two of you laughing as you both headed out to his patio, calling Dodger to join you two, and Chris snagged his sunglasses while waiting for his pup to join you two.
The two of you has been best friends for many years, it was an easy going, no expectation kinda deal. There we're times, you wanted to take it further, you knew those little over the top things he did privately for his girlfriend's, after all you had helped him brainstorm a few of them. But they were never for you, always the best friend, you weren't complaining. You valued this, but you wondered what it could have been like.
You were out of his league anyways, you knew that, he knew that. Life is what it is. These were your thoughts on the subject.
But the past year he pulled back from that scene. Seemed to focus on himself, what he wanted to accomplish after his Marvel stint. You had asked him a couple times if he was seeing anyone. Chris would just kind of shrug, become elusive in his answers. "He, I'm to busy"
Somehow you would never catch his glance your way when you would go back to what you were doing. He was not to busy, he was conflicted.
You were his best friend. He didn't want to ruin one of his most valued relationships by asking for more. Even if it could be the best thing in his life.
"When's everyone supposed to get here?" You ask, as you move over to sit on the edge of his in ground pool. Kicking off your flip flops and lowering to dip your toes in, and sinking your leg in as you sat down, careful with the glass bottle. He loped over next to you, already barefoot, he lowered next to you and took a drag before he set it next to yours.
"Couple hours yet, although Scott and Zach will probably be by sooner."
"They are so damn cute" you remarked, having just met Scotts boyfriend a few weeks ago when you were invited to a party they were throwing
Chris chuckled softly, watching Dodger on the other side of the pool, rubbing himself in the freshly cut grass, staining his white fur green. "They really are, and Scotts so happy, probably the happiest ive seen him in a long time." You picked up on that wistful note, glancing over at him and let your shoulder nudge him. "Did I just hear a note of longing Christopher, Mr. I like being a bachelor?"
You were only teasing, but he looked thoughtful at you, blue eyes scanning over your face, and you felt that all familiar tingle flushing the tops of your cheeks. Damn it y/n, check yourself woman.
"Well maybe, yea. I would like something more then the occasional fling, and just sex. But I'm not sure she be interested in me like that. We've never discussed it, and shes never necessarily hinted in more then what we got."
You, so completely not picking up on what he was really saying, cause in your mind, he couldn't ever be into you. "Well doofus, you have to tell her. Come on, your a catch Chris. Any woman would be happy with you, and with luck, she will make you happy to." You tipped back your bottle, the icy cold beer tingling your lips in that delicious way, your tongue would swipe along your bottom lip, Chris trying to keep himself from getting to distracted.
Playing with the neck of his bottle, he sloshed it a bit, and then set it aside before taking a drink from it. “Okay, I will. Y/N, what do you say, would you like to go out on a date with me?” You just about choked on your beer, sputtering and he reached over to tap his hand against your back. “Jesus Christ woman, breath!”
“You-you want to go out, with me? why in the world would you want to...?” Your voice drifted off, and Chris arched his brows, reaching out to take your hand, which you let him. Still shocked at his question.
“Really Y/N? You cant really be questioning why? Ive known you for years. We have fun together, you already know about all the risks that come to dating me. Youve never, wondered about what it would be like for us? Cause I have many times.”
“Well yea Chris, I mean... ive noticed, dont get me wrong. But im me... your you, it just...” You gave a shrug, not really wanting to say those words. Chris tilted his head, blue eyes searching for what you werent exactly spitting out, and shook his head.
“I dont get what you mean Y/N, what does that have to do with anything?”
“Come on Chris”pulling back your hand, you splashed your leg a bit while drawing it out, and wrapping your arm around it as you bent it, watching the water run down to the tips of your toes, suddenly they were fascinating, you could really just watch those droplets race away all day then to answer Chris’s question. But he wasnt backing down, and you could feel his incredibly blue in the sunshine, im innocent but also know what Im doing to you babes, eyes fucking staring at you. “You are so out of my league, Ive seen the woman youve dated in the past.”
Taken aback, his brows furrowed in frustration. “Thats bullshit Y/N, you think I would think anyone wouldnt deserve me cause I happen to make movies?” He went silent, contemplating what he wanted to say next. The fact that you felt that way about yourself just proved that he was going to have to show you how incredible you were. “Just a chance Y/N, if you have any feelings for me. Its all I ask for.” Turning back to you, he dipped his head to hover near yours.
Waiting for you to give an answer, your heart race cause he was that close. You could feel the soft breaths of air coming from his soft breaths and your eyes darted to those full lips, making your own throb with wanting to brush against them. But hes your friend, your mind screams and then a soft whisper. But he can be so much more.
It was all interrupted when Scott called from inside the house, and you pulled away, scooting back and moving to a stand, grabbing the emptied beer bottles. It was an excuse to get away from what you actually wanted to say. “Let me grab us another!” Racing away to go greet Scott, Chris lets his head falls into his hands, groaning. I was so close, and scared you away.
Scott busted through the door to find Chris pulling himself to a stand, catching the drawn look he had, he tilted his head “Out with it, I know that look, and thats the one you use when something is bugging you.”
“Nothing is wrong Scott” Chris lied, Dodger promptly coming over to greet his “uncle”, in which Scott immediately ruffled his ears. Not to be distracted though, he gave another spill it motion.
“Okay, if you MUST know Scott, I might have told Y/N I had feelings for her.”
Scotts eyes widened, and he grinned. “Well its about damn time Chris! You two have been dancing around each other for a year. Even Zach said we should just push you two together to kiss.”
“Yea well, it didnt go as I hoped.” His hand went up to the back of his neck, rubbing it. “She feels shes not in the same league? How is that even a worry.”
Scott shrugged and loped his arm over his brothers shoulder. “Hey, shes probably just nervous and caught her by surprise. Talk to her again after the party, and relax bro. Trust in your gut.” Chris wrinkled his brow as he listened to Scott, he made some good points. It was unexpected after all. He had certainly never hinted it before at you that he had any real interests. “Come on, let go see what those two are up to and finish setting up.”
Inside, you and Zach were dicing up some fruit they had brought for a fruit salad, having avoided bringing Chris that second beer, and Chris didnt remark on it once they came back inside. He smiled over at you and you glanced down right quick, moving to drop the strawberries in. Was it going to be awkward? Fuck you hoped not. But to your relief, there was no change. Everyone fell into an easy chatter, Chris went and started his grill, and before you all knew it, the party was underway with people showing up, bringing more food, games were played and most likely to much beer got consumed.
The evening started winding down, and you bid your goodbyes, touching Chris’s arm “So im going to head out, it was a great time, dont forget to drink some water before bed though. You will wake up with a headache.” A frown plays on his lips.
“Wait, your really leaving? I thought we could talk.” His eyes flashed hopeful at you, and honestly right now it was all more then you wanted to get into.
“Yea, I got an early morning and stuff I need to take care of.” White lies werent harmful, right?
“How about I come over tomorrow then?” He was still trying, one thing about Chris, once he set his mind to something, he rarely backed down.
“Text you, I promise!” You say a bit overly cheerfully and dart out the door, leaving him on his own once more. Digging out your keys, you escape to your car and pull out of his drive. Driving around, you ended up going nowhere near home, instead you drove around, trying to process your thoughts.
Why couldnt you Y/N? Dont you deserve some kind of happiness and youve always been attracted to him. Just always putting yourself down, you did that with your ex to. Here Chris was saying he had feelings beyond just friends and you ducked out the door before telling him that you might have as well for years.
This was how it went for a couple hours, getting dark you turned on your head lights, and before you realized where you were, your car pulled into Chris’s driveway, tapping your fingers on the wheel. His lights were still on, but everyones cars were gone. Were you really going to do this? Yes... Yes you are. Y/N, you have someone who wants to see if you two are meant to be something more, someone you actually care for as well. Stop holding back.
Going up the front steps, you consider letting yourself in, but you simply knock instead, twisting your fingers together. Dodgers bark emits, and you can hear Chris on the other side. “Hush boy, its okay. Back up buddy.” And then the click, he opened his door and a quirk of a smile folds up the corner of his mouth. “Hey.... “ You take a deep breath and step up to him, grasping his face in your hands, and sweep up to your toes to reach him. Why he have to be ridiculously tall? The sharp taste of beer and him flooded your senses, and his arm tilted around to brace you in close, holding back enough so you could control this kiss, it was yours, and he wasnt about to scare you off again.
Pulling back, you smooth your hands down to his shoulders, clearing your throat. “First of all, Chris you know I dont want to loose our friendship, second I want to see how good we could be. And third...”
Suddenly Scott appeared in the background, grinning wide. Apparently he didnt leave. “ITS ABOUT TIME YOU TWO!!!”
Cats out of the bag, you and Chris were going to see where this would go.

Finding Peace In Another Part 19
A/N: T/W: Discussion of drug addiction and dating violence. This chapter is coming out a few days early and I’m sorry for the delay, I've been really busy with school. I hope everyone is coping well with the virus and isn't going to stir crazy. Also note that this is a work of free fiction and as such I’m not sticking to exact US immigration protocol. Much love!
A few weeks after my dinner with Scott, things were going well. His suspicions were quelled, Monty and I were good and there were no lingering issues with me hanging out with Scott. Since things had calmed down some, I decided to partake in my new favourite pastime. Recently I started surprising Justin at Monet’s after his shifts.
“Hey Justin, can I get peach tea and a raspberry scone please?”
“Coming right up. Usual table?”
“Depends, do you have leftovers?”
“You’ll just have to wait and see. I’m beginning to think you’re only using me for a baked good fix.”
“Maybe. I do bake as a hobby though, so its definitely more that I like you.”
He laughed as I took my drink and wandered over to the table. I people watched while he finished his shift.
“So, how are things with you?” I asked, casually after he sat down.
“You know, things are going. Clay is kind of oblivious to things, mom and dad are trying to judge what they should and shouldn’t push me on. The usual stuff. You?”
“Yeah. Things are going with me too. Dad still occasionally pops in town for a few days before going to wherever he needs to again. Still acts like I don’t essentially live on my own. I think he’s going to be in town for like two weeks sometime soon so that will be interesting.”
“Oh?” He asked, surprised. “Interesting how?”
I had to be careful how I answered. Man, this hiding our relationship thing is getting hard. “Well, he could decide to actually parent me. I’m an adult though so that could cause problems. May end up being a very silent couple of weeks.”
“Sounds like a trip.” He said, laughing.
“Justin. The last time he was home for any length of time, he told me to go look for a job.”
“Uh, why?”
“I have no idea. I can’t even legally work here. Dad’s work did something with the paperwork or something because I am still in high school. I literally can’t work, even if I wanted to.”
“I know. That makes no sense. Could tell him to send you home really.” He said, jokingly. There was a skepticalness to his tone that seemed to indicate he was nervous for my answer.
“What? No. I have finally finished settling in and have begun to think of Evergreen County as my second home. Alberta will always be my home, but that doesn’t mean I want to move back. I still don’t understand your reluctance for universal healthcare but that’s fine. Technically it hasn’t been long enough to be removed from Alberta Healthcare, but I’m not about to go to the trouble of going all the way home to deal with something that can be dealt with here. Dad haggled and made them give him really good insurance to move here and give up the free healthcare.”
“Okay good. Because we like you and don’t want you to leave.”
We talked about some school stuff for a while before I noticed him start to seem a little restless. I knew about his addiction issues and we talked about it often. “Hey, you still with me Justin?”
“Hmm? Oh, yeah. Sorry what were we talking about?”
“Math test, but that’s not important. How are you doing right now?” I asked, subtly referencing the possible cause of his restlessness.
He sighed before answering, “I’m doing okay I guess.”
“Do you want to talk about it? We can go for a walk if you’re not comfortable talking here.”
After a moment he nodded. I got up and went to order us two coffees to go while he waited, trying to organize his thoughts.
“You ready to go?”
“Yeah, let’s go. Your usual?”
I rolled my eyes at him. Obviously.
We left the shop and wandered around a bit before he broke the silence. “It’s just harder than I expected it to be. Even with going to meetings, it’s hard to manage sometimes.”
“I get it. Have you talked to your sponsor at all?”
“I call him every afternoon to check in but that doesn’t mean it’s not hard. And I want to talk to Jess about it, but I don’t want to scare her or push her away. And I want to talk to mom and dad about it but I don’t want them to be mad or….”
“Or what Justin?”
“Or kick me out or something? I don’t know.”
“Well, I’m pretty sure that wouldn’t happen, but I hear you and I understand what you mean.” We sat on a park bench and people watched for a while. “You should tell Jess. Trust me when I tell you she is probably going to figure something out sooner or later.”
He looked at me in surprise, “You…?”
“No, not me. My ex-boyfriend was a prescription drug addict. Percocet was his drug of choice. He was in quasi-recovery, still drank and smoked weed so not actually trying stay sober, when we started dating. It wasn’t pills though so I wasn’t going to push the issue. But as time went on, he started using again and tried to hide it from me. It wasn’t that hard to figure it out. Things got… bad towards the end. Not that you would ever… just. I knew.”
“Oh. I-I didn’t know. Are you like, okay?”
“Yeah. It wasn’t that bad. If we stayed together it would have been worse, but thankfully we ended up breaking up after he went on a bender and I said enough was enough. But we aren’t talking about me, we are talking about you.”
“Do you think she would understand?”
“I think so. It might be hard at first, but I think she will. And she needs to hear it from you, not figure it out on her own like I did or be told by someone else. That will make it easier.”
“And my parents?”
“If you want, I can go with you to talk to them.”
“I think that would be good, yeah.”
“What do you want to do Justin?”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, what do you need? Do you need to go to more meetings? Do you need someone to take you to meetings? Do you need to consider going to rehab? What do you need?”
“I don’t know. I know I need help. I just don’t know where to start. Why?”
“Because I want to help you. You’re my friend. And your parents will ask, so maybe thinking about it before you talk to them would be helpful. If not though, I understand. And if you need anything, just call me. Okay? Day or night.”
“Okay, I will. Thanks Becca.”
We chatted randomly for a while again before calling it a night and parting ways.
The next day went smoothly as well. At least until lunch that is. The guys were goofing off as usual and since Scott had seemed to quell his suspicions at least for now, Monty and I didn’t have to walk on eggshells as much around him anymore. Bailey called me about halfway through lunch. It wasn’t unusual for him to call me in the middle of the day, given he had a spare after lunch, but he didn’t usually call and then text and then call again. Odd. I hope everything is okay….
“Someone’s popular? Hot date you forgot about tonight Becca?” Garrison joked. I wasn’t looking at Monty but I knew his eye twitched ever so slightly, as it did whenever someone made a comment like that.
“Uh, yeah sure. Whatever Garrison.” I said, distracted as my phone began to ring again. Something is going on. I answered it at the table rude I know, but I don’t think a bunch of teenage boys care much about table etiquette. “Hey Bailey, what’s up?” I asked.
“Hey so I didn’t want to get involved or get you involved since you aren’t here to defend yourself, but I feel like you need to know. And it’s my problem because you’re my best friend.”
“Need to know what?” I put my hand up to quiet the boys down a bit.
“James has been… saying stuff. About you. And your relationship.”
“Uh okay? Why is that a problem?”
“Because of what he has been saying and what it involves regarding your relationship.”
“What has he been saying Bailey?” I felt my cheeks begin to warm and Monty and Zach’s eyes on me.
“He’s been telling our friends uh… intimate details about your erm… private relationship.”
I laughed in disbelief. That little prick. I took a deep breath to centre myself, though it did little to quell my growing anger. The table grew silent as I started to vibrate, “well Bailey. You tell James that if he keeps running his damn mouth, I will get on the next plane home, find him, and shove my foot so far up his ass he will taste it.” I heard Bryce let out a laugh and glared at him threateningly.
“Okay. Is it wrong that I would pay to watch that? Because that would be great.”
“Bailey.”
“Sorry, just trying to break the tension.”
“Has the little slime ball been saying anything else?”
“I mean, he complains about the end of your relationship, which I don’t like but that’s not unusual.”
“Remind him that I kept my mouth shut about a lot of shit he did, to protect him. And remind him about the little agreement we made when we broke up. I may not live there anymore, but my phone plan has international calling and I am on very good terms with the school resource officer.”
“What agreement Rebecca?”
“The agreement that keeps his dumb ass out of jail for various things that I cannot talk about right now. And certainly not with you.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t have money to bail you out of jail and the exchange rate is terrible right now. That’s why.”
“O-okay then. Talk later?”
“Yeah, I might call tonight but if not, later this week. Depends on my plans for the evening.” I heard a bell on the other end of the line.
“Gotta run, love you Becky.”
“Love you too Bear.”
When I looked up, the table was staring at me, slack jawed. Scott looked the least surprised out of the group, considering he had a little more insight than everyone else regarding my last relationship. “What?”
“What the fuck was that?” Matt asked.
“My ex was talking about shit he shouldn’t have been talking about.”
“Okay we got that much but… what was that?” Zach asked.
“You’re so small. How can such a small person have that kind of anger in them?” Garrison added.
“Could have something to do with people not watching where the hell they walk and stepping on me, or it could have something to do with my tolerance for bullshit getting lower and lower the older I get.”
“But you hang out with us. So, I don’t see how that is possible? That was kind of hot though.” Scott asked.
“No offence, but I’ve met second graders who exude more bullshit than you guys do all put together. Well if I knew that’s all it would take to turn you on Scott, I would have told Bailey to call me during lunch a long time ago.”
“Okay, that’s fair. Hurtful but fair. What can I say, it’s the simple things. Are you going to eat your apple?”
“Depends Scotty. Are you going to take it anyway?”
“I plead the fifth.”
“Uh huh. Since I don’t get a choice anymore, knock yourself out.” I chucked my apple at him, half hoping he would miss. He never did.
Zach and Monty shared a look. Still haven’t grasped subtlety yet I see. “Do you want my carrot sticks Monty? I’m not very hungry.”
“Why?”
“Big breakfast.”
“Right. Sure, not one to say no to free food. Even if they are someone’s leftovers.”
“They aren’t leftovers you meatball. I cut them this morning. I had green beans last night.”
“Do you eat other vegetables Becks?” Monty asked, teasingly, taking a bite of the stick.
“Dude, chew your fucking food.” Bryce chided.
“Why? What is this? Interrogate Rebecca day or something? Eat your damn carrot sticks.”
There was a beat of silence, where the boys sat with perplexed looks on their faces. Zach, bless him, jumped in with some game related question that I tuned out as it went over my head. I’m dating a sports player. I never said I understood any of it. The heat seemed to be off of us again, though I could feel Scott glancing my way every now and then while I tried to brush up on some geometry before math class.
I had full intentions to lessen Scott’s once again raised suspicions, so instead of waiting for Montgomery a minute or two after the lunch bell as usual, I merely waived goodbye to my friends and ran to math. I was the first one there so I pulled out the book I was reading between classes.
“Good book?” Cyrus asked, startling me as he sat down.
“God! You scared me. Yeah, I have read it a few times though.”
“Cool. Did you want to come hang out tonight? Mack is going to Chad’s place to talk boys or something.”
“Maybe, I’ll have to check my schedule.”
“Dad is making baked ziti for dinner. You can have a corner piece.” He bribed.
“A corner piece of ziti you say? Well in that case, my schedule is clear as day.”
“It’s a plan.”
Mr. Daniels started class a few minutes later. Will geometry ever get easier?
I met Cyrus at my locker after school and yelled a goodbye to my friends, who were having an animated discussion about who would in a fight, someone I had never heard of or some other guy I’ve never heard of. There was a chorus of ‘byes’ and grunts of acknowledgement. We parted ways and met again at his house.
“Hey Andrew.” I greeted his dad.
“Hey kids. How was school?”
“It was school dad. The establishment and crap.”
“I see you had a good day Cyrus.”
“At Liberty? Sure.”
“I had a pretty good day. I told my friend at home to tell my ex where he can stick his opinion. Do you need help with anything?”
“No, that’s okay thanks though Becca.”
“Oh this I need to hear.” Cyrus said, grabbing a Coke from the fridge.
“Pass me a Diet and I’ll tell you.” After opening my drink, I told the father and son the story of the lunch phone call.
His dad raised his brow and muttered something about punk ass little shits who don’t know their cocks from their feet.
“That is awesome dude. You should have told him to Facetime you when he told this James dickwad.”
“That would require me seeing the asshat’s stupid face. So no sadly.”
“Fair point. We are going to my room to do some homework Dad. Call when dinner is ready? I bribed her with a corner piece so save one for her.”
“For sure kids. Have fun.”
With that, we ran off to his room, but we didn’t work on the non-existent homework. Instead, we went through his records and Spotify account and argued about which to play. “Just go to a radio if it’s going to be an issue Cyrus.”
“No no. You’re my guest, you choose.”
“I already chose and you said no.”
“Fine. Defy it is. You’re lucky I like you.”
“Mhmm. Just play the damn album Cy.”
He laughed as he hit play and the sounds of Of Mice & Men filled the room.
“You better not have been lying about the corner piece man.”
“Lie to you about dad’s cooking? I would never.”
“Right. And I’m the Queen of England.”
We joked around for a while before dinner. Andrew called us down later and as promised, I had my crispy corner slice of ziti.
“Thank God it’s Friday. I want this week to be over. Thank you for dinner again.”
“Everything okay Becca? It’s no problem.” Andrew asked.
“Yeah, it’s just been busy. Lots of assignments and stuff.” Too much work and not enough boyfriend time.
“Well you have the weekend to relax at least.” Cyrus pointed out, waving his fork.
“If you don’t stop that, you’ll poke your eye out one of these days. Are you going to the game next Saturday, Cyrus?” “Maybe. Not really my scene.”
“Oh come on, it’ll be fun. We can not care about the sport together. It’s high school. You only go once.”
“Fine, but you are buying me popcorn.”
“Deal.” I said and shook his hand.
Andrew made sure to send me home with leftovers and a standing invitation to come for dinner any time at the end of the night.

Winston/Monty pt. 11 part 1 out of 2 because its loooong
Scott cleaned the dishes while Winston took his medicine.
"You should visit his grave. You know... I dont think you failed him. He's not disappointed in you- but proud of thta you tried."
"Maybe."
"He really trusted you to do that. Did he told you that?"
Scott nooded.
"Then you already know that he wont be disappointed in you."
"You really think so... right?"
"Yes. He's your friend."
Scott sighed and looked down in the sink.
"Jeff was really a nice guy- he had a huge heart and supported so many. The funeral was the absolute worst. So many people crying, disturbed. He died to young."
"You really liked him."
"Well of course I do."
Winston smiled.
"No."
"'No' What?"
"I didnt mean it like that. Not as your best friend."
Scott didnt responds to that directly.
"He was just a friend. I told you."
"Would you say the same if you'd look at me? Almost everytime you talk about him you won't look at me. You're hiding something."
"Theres nothing to hide."
Winston sighed and stood up.
"Maybe you'll tell me later. I wont pressure you into something you dont want to say. I'll go to sleep now. You can chose one of the quest rooms. One is near mine, the other ones are on the 3rd floor. Good night."
Winston left and leaves Scott alone in the kitchen.
"Fuck it. I wasnt in love with him." He whispered to himself.
"He was my best friend, not my first male crush:"
Why would he even think about that if he wasnt?
He stood there for some seconds more until he decided to go to one of the guest rooms.
He choosed the one near Winstons.
They didnt saw each other until the next day.
Scott checked on Winston- He'ss still asleep- all the stress and probably the medicine knocked him out pretty hard.
He took a shower and got dressed- after that he decided to drive hom to grab some stuff. He left Winston a note in case he would wake up while he was gone.
He took Winstons car to drive home where he packed up some clothes and put on new ones.
Scott looked at he clock. Must be lunchtime at Liberty now. There was still some unfinished business in this school for him. And since he was in town now anyway he could visit this hellhole.
He get back into the car and drove to the school. He went there long enough but after 8 month and the second visit... it still felt weird.
He was the one the school chose to give Montys stuff to since his parents didnt care enough for it.
After he arrived at school he parked his car in a parking lot near by the school, then he stepped out and took a deep breath.
No one was around so he felt at least a bit more comfortable. All that changed after he entered the school building. The halls were filled with students. People he know and some he dont.
But no one seemed to notice him. Luckily. At least he thought so.
Without any further thinking he walked straight towards the principals office- but stopped after someone grabbed his arm and some other called his name.
"Scott!"
He got dragged away by the one who grabbed his arm.
"Long time no hypocrite. Didnt expect to see you around here anymore after you buggered off after the whole Bryce "rape" thing."
Scott tried to stay calm.
"What do you want?"
"We just wonder why you're here and that you still have the courage for it."
"Why? Should I feel afraid of you?"
"Maybe."
"I dont. Let me go, I have somethng to take care of."
"What is it?"
"Non of your business."
"You know whats our business?"
"What?"
"Why are you walking around with a fucking faggot?"
"I dont understand."
"We saw you with hime- the last days. The one guy with pale skin and black hair. The faggot."
He just looked at them.
"The faggot? Yeah?" taking this word in his mouth made him feel disgusted.
"Dont you think its time to stop using thie word? How old are you? 10?"
"Why are you defending him? Are you one of them now too?"
The other guys laughed.
"I mean look at him- hes probably going back to him. Thats why hes wearing his bes clothes."
The guys continued to laugh.
"And even if I am- it not your problem anymore. I'm not your friend anymore. So I can do what ever the fuck I want."
"So youre fucking him. Disgusting. Monty would have beat the shit outta you. Sadly he died because someone rat about what he did."
Scott laughed this time.
"I bet he would have. Totally. Except I was a trued friend of him and he never judged me."
He turned around and pushed past between the other students- he still could hear them shit talking.
Scott didnt glanced over his shoulder and turned left around he almost ran Alex over.
"Scott."
"Alex."
"What are you doing here?"
"Taking care of Montys stuff."
"Hm. Jeard you talk with these guys over there. Are you staying with Winston."
"Maybe."
"How does it feel to be around someone whos fighting against us?"
"I dont care. You did something wrong and have to pay for it. Why are you even so angry about it? At me? You can stop that now. Its getting annoying."
Scott walked down the hall and Alex followed him, he entered an empty room.
"I am because I want to."
Zach appeared behind Alex, out of knowhere. As well as Clay, Justin and the rest of the group.
"So childish. You know I didnt sell out Montys trust so the next moment you could pin the murder of Bryce on him. I'm not your friend- The only one I actually just cared about in thsi whole group was Clay. And because I dont owe you anything I can do what I want. Step up for what you did wrong. You cant serve justice while cobering up a murder."
Alex blood boiled with every word he siad.
"Why do you even care? I mean Monty was a criminal. Murder or not."
"Because- surprise- he was my friend."
"Why are you helping Winston?"
"Because he thinks the same:"
"Yeah? Really?"
Zach grabbed Alex arm ad whispered a silent "Lets go". But Alex didnt want to stop.
"You're just helping him because you think hes hot."
Scott blinked in confusion.
"And I think you just killed Bryce because he wanted to fuck up Zachs life. The person you love so much but wont admit it because you're a coward. Wont even notice hiw much he liked you back."
Alex got furious and shoved Zach away from him, angrily.
"How dare you?"
Scott laughed.
"Thank me later."
Zach looked back and forth between them and started to blush.
"Wha... not true!" and he rushed away.
Alex looked afte him.
"You're gonna pay for this" and then he followed him.
Clay stared at Scott for some seconds.
"What? Do you want to complain too? Because I really dont eanna end up in a fight with you."
"No I .... who told you to look after me?"
Scott rolled his eyes.
"Should be pretty obvious. Dont it? It was Jeff."
"Oh... really...?"
"Yeah."
"Why?"
"I dont know. Maybe bevause he knew you neeede help or something."
"But he was around most of the time."
"He was but it was for the time he couldnt be around."
Clay nooded to that.
"So... do you really think Winston is hot?"
Justin started to laugh.
"Dude dont ask that."
"But..."
"What the fuck Clay?" Scott said in confusion.
"I'm sorry."
"You know..." Scott started. "Everyone finds Winston hot- even the most hetero guys alive."
Clay laughed at this and pat him on the shoulder.
"Good joke man. You looked so serious saying that."
"Thats beause I was being serious.
He shook his head slightly and then walked away. Grabbing Montys stuff from the office.
After that he took the emergrency exit and rushed to the car- with it, he drove home.
He entered the house and went straight to the kitchen- the box with Montys stuff still in his hands. He placed it on the counter.
Scott made some coffee and was about to open up the fridge as he heard steps that stopped right in the doorframe.
Winston stood there- with a bit of a shocked look on his face.
It made him worrying.
"Somethings up?"
Winston just hsook his head, still kinda tired because oth the meds.
"I just..." he rubbed his eyes."
"Its just the... look on you. The clothes. Monty used to ear the m all the time."
"Oh...yeah... I can change it for something else if you want me to. If its more comfortable for you."
"No." Winston shook his head. "Its fine. Really."
He noticed the box on the counter.
"Whats that?"
"Montys last belongings. I thought you might wanna have them. Its not much but enough for you I hope..."
Winston took a seat and grabbed the box.
"You were in school right? How was it?"
"Seems like everyone of my former so called "friends" hate me now. But I dont really care. Met Alex and his friend again to. Had a little fight. But wasnt that bad. Still feels weird going back there..."
"I can imagine that."
"Anyway Winston... how are you feeling?"
"Good. Better than yesterday."
They had breakfast together as Scott received a message.
Sheri. She wanted to meet them.
"Hey Winston?"
"Hm?"
"Gotta problem coming with me to visit Jeffs grave?"
"You really think I should come with you? Why do you even want to visit him now?"
"Sheri just wrote me - she wants to go there. And she invited you."
"Oh really? If she wants me to come I'll say yes."
He wrote her back, that they would meet at 2pm.
Sheri: "It really didnt sound like you want to visit him yesterday.
Scott: "That was yesterday. Now is today and my mood is better too."

Scott took the bag with his clothes out of the car after they finished eating and headed upstairs as Winston stopped him.
"Already feeling like home here dont you?" he siad, pointing at the bag.
"Oh- I just thought that I should stay for some days more. Just in case."
"Right. I know that." Winston smiled.

He carried his bag up the stairs and placed it on the bed, he sat down next to it. He choosed some dark clothes for that occasion even though he knew that Jeff probably wouldnt like that.
Winston watched him from the door frame silently. Scott ddint notice him because he was stcuck in a daydream.
"Are you ready?" Winston said finally and Scott almost jumped.
"I am - I think."
They got into Winstons car and drove the long way to the graveyard.
There he parked the car in an empty spot and togther they walked up the way- Sheri was already waiting for them there.
"Finally here- I think I was to early." She laughed and looked at Winston.
"Nice to see you again- now we'll introcude you to our best friend." she whispered quietly, not to disturb the other visitors.
Together they walked to Jeffs grave - which was decorated with many flowers.
"Looking good." Scott said, after seeing all these flowers.
"Obviously it must be. Jeff was such a sweetie."
Sheri claimed, Scott secretly agreed to it.
"So why'd you chose to come? Yesterday you sounded a bit stressed."
He looked at Winston for some seconds.
"Well... Winston helped me to understand that I shouldnt feel resposible for Montys death."
Sheri tilted her head slightly.
"What does that has to do with Jeff?"
"I...." he looked at Winston again. "I guess... I ahve to tell you something."
And he told her. About everything. About what Jeff told him- what he ased him for. About Monty. About Clay. That Scott flt like the burdern was all on him.
He strayed calm through all of it.
"He had to much hopes in me- Monty and the others dragged me deep into their darkness. That non of theri fault. If only, thene mine. Because I knew what would happen."
"Oh damn... But... he should've never left it all on you. Ther was no chance of you to handle it all alone."
"I did it anyway- I wanted to."
Sheri and Winston both waited for a clear answer.
"I wanted to make him proud. Ther are still things I will always deny. For the fact that its now to late and never was about any relevance."
Sheri laughed.

Can I pls request an imagine with Alex standall for prompt 19. “I just need a hug.” :)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A/N: I can not tell you how unbelievably excited I was to see this in my inbox! Partially because the 13 Reasons Why fandom is slowly disappearing and I’m more than happy to try and bring a little bit more life back into the fandom and partially because I didn’t expect anybody to request from my prompt list! The requests I got have been overwhelming so give me your patience while I try to write all of these! (But don’t let that stop you from requesting; I just need time!!!) Also, I think this is the longest imagine I’ve ever written???
Word Count: 2,316
Warnings: Angsttttt (but happy ending-ish), Swearing (but honestly if you watch this show is that even a warning???), Death, Underage drinking,
Not Okay
Your longtime best friend Jeff stood in the doorway of your room as he tried to persuade you to go to Jess’ end of summer party. You and Jess knew each other through a few classes and had hung out at Monets a few times,  but didn’t start to get close until you had started to date Alex Standall. Because Alex and Justin were so close, you and Jess had started to hang out a lot more in group settings and that soon blossomed into a beautiful friendship. However, a few weeks ago, you had broken up with Alex- well, technically he broke up with you. You two were going through a rough patch in your relationship and rather than stay and fight for it, he walked away. Since then, Jess had been closer to you than ever before, as she understood your pain on a personal level. Jess had already tried several times to get you to come out to this party fo hers, but you knew Alex would show up and you couldn’t face him sooner than you would have to, what with school starting in a few days. You stood next to your closet, putting away some laundry as Jeff pleaded with you to go. “Y/N, please. Leah is sick and can’t go; I can’t show up to the party alone.” Jeff complained as he leaned against your doorframe. You chuckled and continued putting clothes away.
“Yes, you can. You’re Jeff Atkins.”
“Y/N, please?” Jeff asked again with a sigh. You groaned and turned around to face him with your hands on your hips.
“Is Alex going?” You watched as his face changed as he tried to come up with an acceptable answer.
“I don’t know… maybe… probably… yes.” He finally admitted to you.
“Then I don’t want to be there.” You said, shrugging your shoulders as if it was the most simple thing in the world. He groaned and pushed himself off of your doorway and for a brief moment, you thought you had won.
“Y/N, I am so sick and tired of you sitting around here moping. Sure Alex broke up with you. But HE broke up with YOU! It’s his loss, not yours! You need to get out of this damn room and have some fun, drink a little, kiss a boy! So you’re going to that party, no excuses! Alex was not a forever thing! He’s a high school douchehole who doesn’t care about you! He walked away from you so you have no excuse to be sitting around, throwing a pity party for yourself! Get over yourself and move on!”  You stood in shock for a few minutes. Jeff was a generally kind, calm dude and you had only ever seen him angry a few times in the 16 years of friendship, and he even liked Alex.
“Douchehole isn’t a word.” You muttered and Jeff threw his hands up in the air. “Ok, ok, fine! I’ll go to the stupid party!” You grumbled.
-
An hour later, the two of you sat in Jessica’s driveway. You looked at the house in contempt; you were regretting giving in to Jeff right about now. You two walked up to the door silently and Jeff knocked. He looked over at you and sighed while you stood with your arms crossed, glaring at the door. “Hey, look, I’m sorry about yelling at you earlier. You didn’t deserve that. I should’ve been more understanding, I just can’t keep watching you beat yourself up over this because you deserve so much better.” he apologized, giving you a sincere look. You sighed and turned to him.
“Don’t be sorry. I kinda deserved it and I needed to hear it and much better you than someone else. Lord knows I’d probably only listen to you anyways.” You said, with a slight chuckle at the end.
“Are you sure?” He asked to which you nodded in response. He pulled you in for a hug and you wrapped your arms around his tall frame. “Still friends?” He asked, laughing.
“Always.” You laughed along with him. You both turned to the door as it was finally opened. Scott came into view and his smile grew when he saw the both of you. Jeff and Scott bro-hugged and Scott gave you a side hug as you walked into the Davis home. He leads you to the kitchen, where you found Zach, Justin, and Jessica.
“Look who I found!” Scott announced as you walked into the kitchen. The three cheered as they saw you. Jess was the first to run over to give you a hug, followed by Justin, then Zach.
“Didn’t think you’d make it!” Zach exclaimed and you laughed.
“It’s not a party without me and my charm, Dempsey.” Everyone laughed until you felt a pair of eyes on you. You turned around at the sight of your friend’s gazes. There stood Alex, with Clay behind him, who looked extremely uncomfortable. You locked gazes with Alex, but quickly turned away and cleared your throat. “So where’s the alcohol?” you questioned.
“Oh my God, Y/L/N, drinking??” Justin questioned, laughing. You laughed with him and playfully shoved his shoulder.
“Shove it, Foley.” He slung an arm around your shoulders, chuckling.
“Come on, it’s out back. I’ll show you.” You two made your way to the backyard and you stood awkwardly next to the keg as he poured you a drink. He handed it to you as he poured himself one. “How are you holding up?” You stared at the drink in your hand.
“I’m here, aren’t I?” You asked rhetorically, avoiding his gaze. He once again slung his arm around your shoulder, chuckling.
“And that in itself is a miracle.” He said, causing you to giggle. “Come on, drink up.”
-
Two or three hours later, you stood out on the front porch, enjoying the cool breeze and just gazing at the stars. Out of the corner of your eye, you saw Alex talking to a few kids from school but you don’t think he had noticed you yet. You stood there soaking in the peace until you heard your name being called. You looked out to see Alex, who was now standing only a few feet from you. “We need to talk.” He stated harshly and you felt the eyes of the few people outside on you. You walked down the front steps.
“Fine, talk.” you said, putting your hands on your hips.
“I can’t believe you.” He seethed.
“What the hell are you talking about Alex?”
“Oh, come on, we’ve been broken up for like 2 weeks and you’ve already moved on. Please. You’re such a slut.”
“Excuse me?” You asked incredulously.
“You know, I always thought you had a thing with Jeff while we were dating but God, I mean, he has a girlfriend, (Y/N).” At this point, it became very apparent Alex was drunk.
“W-what?”
“But you know, you never needed me. You’ll just whore it up with the entire baseball team to get over me? Fine by me. Go. I don’t need a bitch like you anyway.” you stared at Alex in shock.
“Standall shut the hell up.” Jeff’s voice came from behind you and you turned to see Jeff standing with Clay on the porch and coming around from the back of the house was Zach and Justin.
“You know, you should probably tell your little bestie Jessica that you’re gonna sleep with her boyfriend. She’ll hate you really quickly. God, you’re just like Hannah. The school slut. Go whore it up with Justin; let Jessica come running back to me. I always loved her anyway. I don’t give a damn about you. I never loved you.” Ouch. that one hurt… a lot. You had always been insecure about Jess and Alex’s history, but Alex always assured you he was happier with you.
“Standall, I’m gonna kick your ass so hard…” Justin yelled as he moved toward Alex. Zach drunkenly tried to hold him back.
“Justin.. don’t.” You mumbled, voice thick with tears. You turned away from the boys and began to head down the street. God, how you just wanted to hid and never come back to this shitty ass town.
“Clay… Clay… I don’t have time for this.” You heard Jeff say and for a moment you thought to turn and wait for him but your feet kept moving, wanting to get as far away from Alex as possible. Clay said something back but you didn’t quite hear it. “Clay, I had two beers, two hours ago. I’ll be fine.” Soon enough, you heard footsteps and paused as the slightly out-of-breath Jeff came into view. “Damn, you’re a fast walker.” It was at this point that you realized you were crying. Jeff pulled you into his chest, wrapping his arms around you. You had no clue how long you stood there but Jeff held you in his arms until you could cry no more.” You slowly pulled yourself away from his embrace and wiped your eyes.
“I’m going on a beer run; do you want me to take you home on the way? I can even come over after I drop the beer off.” Jeff asked gently. You looked up at him.
“Jeff, haven’t you been drinking?” You questioned, more concerned about his safety then getting home. He sighed.
“Like I told Clay, I had two beers, two hours ago. I’ll be fine.”
“Are you sure?” You questioned. You had a weird feeling about all of this.
“Yes.” He insisted. “Do you want me to take you home?” You shook your head, both in response and an attempt to clear yourself of this odd feeling.
“I really just need to clear my head.” Jeff looked uncertain.
“Alright, well if you need anything call me, ok?” He said, pulling you in for another hug. You nodded, breathing his scent and shutting your eyes shut. Every red flag in your head was going off and you hugged Jeff even tighter. “I love you, (Y/N/N).”
“Love you too Jeff.” He pulled away and headed back down the street to where his car was. You watched him walk out of view and then turned back in the direction of your home. Another 20 minutes or so passed as you walked home in the silence. All of a sudden, you heard a screeching noise and then a crash. Your curiosity got the better of you and you headed towards the noise. As you approached the scene of the wreck, Clay came into view. “Clay?” You questioned as you moved towards the oh-so-familiar car, you recognized the boy sitting in the front seat. And at that moment, the sky seemed to fall in on itself.
-
And when the sun rose that morning, the news of the tragedy that had occurred in the darkness of the night came with it. It had been two weeks since that horrific night. You had felt so numb since you watched the ambulance take away Jeff’s lifeless body and the true pain of losing him hadn’t hit you, even at the funeral. You sat on your bed, mind at a blank. You heard footsteps and you looked up to see Alex. Strangely, you weren’t angry with him anymore. Jeff’s death had overridden every other little thing, including what Alex had said that night. “Look, (Y/N), I am so incredibly sorry. I was drunk and I didn’t mean a word I said. I didn’t even know what I said until Scott told me the next morning. I was so scared that you’d move on, that you’d see me the way I see myself and I just got so terrified that I left you before you could hurt me. But I never meant to hurt you and I feel so awful that I did. But I’m going to be here for you through this in any way that I possibly can if you’ll let me.” Alex spoke and you looked at him for a brief moment.
“I just need a hug.” You said, standing up. Alex moved towards you to bring him into his arms and at that moment, the grief of losing your best friend since birth hit you full force. You let go of everything as Alex held you close. The concept of time seemed to slip away as you grieved. Alex held you through every heart-wrenching moment. Even after you had stopped crying, Alex continued to hold you as you listened to the comforting rhythm of his heartbeat. The more you thought about that night, the more you realized that it could’ve been you. If you had agreed to let Jeff take you home, it could’ve your lifeless body Clay found. It could’ve been your funeral Jeff attended. And in all of this, you had realized that you were no longer angry with Alex. You just wanted to be with him; you couldn’t lose him too.
“(Y/N), I am so sorry. About everything, About what I said, about Jeff, I just…” He mumbled into your hair but you stopped him from getting very far.
“Alex, it’s ok.” You said, even though you knew that was the farthest from the truth.
“No, it’s not. It’s not ok. Nothing is ok.” Alex said, pulling out of the hug and looking you dead in the eye.
“You’re right, nothing is ok. But you don’t need to keep apologizing for what happened. It could’ve been me instead of Jeff that night and I can’t keep living like I don’t still love you. And I need you more than ever right now.” You said, and you began to feel yourself tremble at the weight of everything.
“Ok.” Alex whispered, pulling you close again. “Ok. I’m gonna be here until you’re ok again, no matter how long that takes. I promise.”

Trust | Montgomery De La Cruz | Part 2
Tumblr media
Summary: Reader was having a normal morning until someone decided to pull a stupid prank
Warning: None
Montgomery De La Cruz x Reader
Its been about 2 months since you broke up with Montgomery and you had no intention on getting back together with him.
Everything seemed so better, you got to wear your favorite perfume that Monty told you sent like shit, and dress, shirt, or shorts you want without him yelling at you about ‘walking about with you ass half out’.
But like everything there was a bad side Monty had been calling and texting you almost nonstop half of which were happening while he was drunk, he ever showed up at your house one night thank god your parents weren’t home, having to sleep alone with no one to cuddle with even though Montgomery was cheating on you he held you so close to him at night that he might have thought you would evaporate if he didn’t.
You also started to notice him getting into more fights at school or coming to school with bruises that weren’t there the day before leaving you to conclude that he had been sleeping at home most nights.
The bell had just rang for third period while you were on your way to ap history when a hand went over you mouth and one around your waist. You start to kick but soon after your feet are restrained as well.
When you finally set down you look around and your surrounded by guys in the middle of the boys locker room.
As you survey the faces of your attackers you realize it none other than the Liberty High baseball team.
“Thanks I’ve alway wanted to know what it felt like to be kidnapped.” You said sarcastically but still with and uneasy feeling as you knew what most of the baseball team were into. “I guess I can also say I know how Natalie Greendale felt at Sheri’s party.” You joked with a small laugh once you realized no one else was laughing you kept quiet....of a while.
“OKAY WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING HERE?!?” You yelled.
“Well explain in a minute just calm down.” Zach said.
“No zach I’m not gonna calm down in a room full of high school male and not a witness in sight.” I sneered.
“What do you think we’re gonna do Y/N?” Bryce asked taking a step closer to you.
“I don’t know Bryce you tell me, but I do know that if you don’t back the fuck up it will be the last think you do.” You replied.
“Alright let’s all calm down here.” You turn at a new voice entering the locker room.
“We’re all calm here coach.” Bryce says taking a few steps back.
“No were not I was just kidnapped.” You interjected.
“Look we’re sorry about that we just needed to talk to you.” Scott explained.
“And ‘hey Y/N.’ Wasn’t gonna workout for you?” You asked rolling your eyes.
“We didnt think you would listen if you knew what it was about.” Zach said making you have him a look to tell him to continue. “Monty.”
“Oh hell no.” You said turning on your heels and heading towards the door, only to find you path blocked by no less than 7 males.
“Hey Y/N, is it? Monty is one of the best guys on this team and as of late it’s been showing in his preformance on the field that something is off with him.” Coach spoke up. “And according to the team this all happened when you guys broke up.”
“Still not seeing what this has to do with me.” You interrupted.
“Look I’ve seen you around school with Monty and at the games in the stands cheering him on and you two seemed like a pretty solid pair and you don’t want one little fight to ruin that do you?” He asked condescendingly.
“Uh coach.” A random member started. “He was cheating on her for almost a month.”
“And that’s awful but everybody makes mistakes.” Bryce replied.
“Yeah and im not putting up with his ‘mistakes’ anymore.” You snapped. “I had to come to school everyday and see the girl my boyfriend was fucking behind my back, see them talking and flirting and act like I didn’t know anything so I don’t look like the crazy jealous girlfriend! For 3 week he looked me in my eye and lied to me and then had the nerve to accuse me of cheating and call me a slut!” You yelled causing half the team to flinch.
“Look no one ever said Monty was smart, but i since you dumped is ass he’s had a hair trigger and if he gets into anymore fights porters gonna bench him for the rest of the season, not that it matters is playing has sucked.” Scott quickly got to the point seeing you were running out of patience.
“I never asked him to be smart Scott I just wanted him to be loyal, or is that too much to ask from you people. You know if the roles were reversed I’d be slut-shamed out of the school, but when a guy does it we’re just expected to forgive him?! Well fuck you! I’d say fuck Monty but I’m sure someone is already on that now either you let me out of this damn room or I’m gonn a start screaming rape at the top of my lungs not that that would be beyond any of you!” You shout. “No offense Zach, Scott.” You said becoming a little calmer.
“All good.” Zach said at the same time Scott replied with a “no problem.”
After you exited the locker loom you went straight to class but you couldn’t focus on anything that was happening your thoughts were only on Montgomery.
Was he really that upset about your break up?
Of course not he wasn’t thinking about you when he was screwing Natalie.
But the team needs him.
So what has the team ever done for you?
Everyone deserves a second chance.
He had a second chance the first time he slept with her, the chance to come clean and never do it again but he wanted to her more than he cared about you.
Thoughts like these were floating though your head the whole day. Finally it was time to go home when you were trying to make your way to the door but a huge crowd was blocking your exit.
“I’m gonna beat your fucking as Adams!” You hear a familiar voice from the core of the mob.
“What the fucks your problem all I’m saying is it not my fault you cheated on your girl and got caught.”someone replied.
As you pushed your way through the crowed you saw just what you expected to see and angry Montgomery. What you didn’t expect was to see the face of the Asshole jock the tried to suck your face.
You felt a presence beside you causing you to look and come face to face with Bryce walker.
“What Walker?” You sighed.
“Nothing just wondering if your gonna let this happen?” He asked gesturing towards Monty.
“I’m not letting anything happen, this has nothing to do with me.” You replied.
“Yeah your probably right. But it’s no secret Monty has been looking for a reason to beat Adams to a pulp, and when he’s does there will be no more baseball he could miss the chance at a scout. Not to mention his dad will hear about it as we both know how that’s gonna end assuming no one presses charges and sends mont straight to jail, but yeah completely out of your hands it’s not like you could stop it or anything.” He went on and on.
Taking off your backpack and trusting to towards him which he takes.
“I hate you.” You say before walking to stand between Monty and Adams.
“Y/N what are you doing? Move.” Monty said still staring down the boy behind you who once you looked at him realized how scared he was. He knew he fucked up and that once Monty started it would take a lot for him to stop.
“Monty no.” You said holding you hand out keeping him from coming forward. “Think about this, even if you beat him up now what’s gonna happen to you after?” You asked.
“I don’t care.” He gritted out.
“I do Montgomery look at me.” You order but you demand went ignored.
You move closer to him and put your hand on either side of his face and gently guilt it down to the level of your eyes.
“Look at me.” You say softly as he finally submits. “I’m willing to talk about us Monty but you have to prove to me it’s worth it. Please just come with me and walk away. Please.” You quietly beg.
He started into your eyes for what seemed like forever.
“Fine.” Said causing you to let out a sigh of relief. You glance over to Bryce and nod.
“Alright, alright folks nothing to see here clear out!” He said starting to wave people off.
Once the group had dispersed Bryce had returned your bag to you and reminded Monty about having practice before the game tonight.
“Okay let’s go talk.” He said reaching for your wrist. You move slightly out of his reach.
“Not now Montgomery.” You replied.
“But you said.” He started.
“And we will, but you heard Bryce you have practice and a game. We can talk after.” You clarify.
“Your coming to my game?” Monty asked. You didn’t miss the joy fill his eyes as he waited for your answer.
“Yeah I’ll be there.” You say bitting your lips.
“Okay that’s great.” He exclaimed. Before you could stop him he quickly pecked you on your lips. “Oh I’m sorry.” He said once he realized what he didn’t.
“It’s fine, but just because I’m willing to talk doesn’t mean we’re getting back together.” You clarify.
“I know but if you do get back together I promise I’ll treat you like the angel you always were to me.” He said.
“You should go you have a game to win.” You said with a small smile.
“Yeah I’ll see you later.” He said walking backwards as if when he turned around you would disappear.
“I’ll see you later.” You said turning to walk away.
Once you got you your car you sat there staring straight forward.
“What the hell am I gonna do.” You said dropping your head down into the steering wheel a little too hard.
“Ow.” You quietly wined rubbing your forehead.

Justin Foley X Reader

word count: 1743
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Moving to a new school at the middle of your sophomore year sucked. Everyone had known each other forever and here you were, the new girl. You hated it. You were so mad at your parents for taking you away from your best friends in Canada and taking you to another country all together. You were hundreds of miles away from the friends that you'd known since preschool.
“Y/N wake up honey you don’t wanna be late for your first day” your mother said softly shaking your sleeping body.
“Urg im up” Y/N gronned.
You got up and tried to decide what to wear. Dress? Nope. Skirt? Nope. Everything you tried on, you hated. After ten minutes of trying on a variety of clothes you settled with a black pair of skinnies and a blue lace up tank top. You walked downstairs, kissed your parents goodbye and headed out, to walk to school.
What a school. A real life american school. You had seen them on Tv, but never in real life. You were hoping that it wasn't as bad as the high schools you and your canadian friends had seen on tv. What a big school. You walked up the stairs leading to the door. You could see and feel all the eyes on you. You really disliked it.
“Heey new girl, come here” you heard someone yell. You turned around to see a group of guys all wearing white and blue lettermans. They all looked at you waving you over. You walked over to them slowly, not sure if it was a good idea. As soon as you got there, a blue eyed boy, with brown hair and the sexiest smile you've ever seen, caught your eye. He was also the first one to talk.
“Where you from cutie?” the blue eyed boy asked
“Canada” you replied smiling at him
“Wow what brings you here? To liberty?” another blue eyed boy, with very prominent cheekbones asked you.
“Wow these guys are so hot” you thought to yourself before replying sarcastically
“well liberty is the only high school in the area so thats why im here.”
“No shit.. He meant what brings you to town” a tall brown eyed brown haired beauty asked you.
“Wow he's a jerk” you thought to yourself again.
“My dad owns a chain of stores and it brought us here to expand”
The bell rang signaling it was time to get to class. The first three periods went by, very, very slow. You sat alone in all of them. None of the guys you were talking to this morning were in your classes.  Now it was lunch time. you walked into the cafeteria and froze. “Wow this is just like an american high school” you thought to yourself looking around, at where you could sit.
“Hey new girl! Come sit with us” the sexy smile guy yelled at you from the other side of the cafeteria.
You walked over, and sat beside him.
“And my names Y/N Y/L/N. just so you can stop calling me New girl” you said looking at him.
“My names Justin. Justin Foley.” he replied giving you a killer smile.
“This is bryce, thats scott, thats monty, thats Zach, Thats jeff” Justin said introducing you to all the guys that were sitting at the table.
The rest of the day went by so fast. It was finally home time and you were just about to walk out of school when you felt a hand on your shoulder and heard “ hey Y/N can we talk for a second”
You turned around to see justin foley.
“Sure whats up justin?” you asked looking at him
“Uum. i was uh, i was wondering if you'd be, if you'd want to go on a date, with uh me” justin asked you nervously.
“Uh um sure. When?” you asked with a smile on your face.
“ how about tonight? I can pick you up, say, 7?” he says with a big smile on his face.
“Ok” you reply writing down your phone number
“Text me and i'll text you my address.” You smile walking away.
You sped walked home. You were so excited. As soon as you got home you ran to your room, went to your computer, and messaged your canadian friends.
Y/N: Omg you guys will never guess what just happened!!!! Rose:WHAT? I NEED DEETS NOW!!!! Sabrina: OMG WHAT??? Julia: WHAT?? Stop with the suspense!!!!!!! Y/N: The hottest guy in my new school just asked ME!!!! Out on a DATE!!! You read that right A DATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Sabrina: OMG I WANT TO KNOW EVERY DETAIL AFTER!!!!! Julia: EEEEEEEEK ME TOO!!!!!! Rose: ME TOO ME TOO ME TOO!!!
You got ready for your date. A cute little black dress, with your hair straightened and black flats. Yoiur phone buzzed multiple times
“Hey Y/N”
“its Justin”
“ i need your address”
“so i can pick you up”
You gave justin your address and giggled to yourself. Roughly ten minutes passed when you got a text from justin saying he was at your house. You ran down stairs yelling “Bye mom, Bye dad” and rushed out the door.
When you got outside, you saw justin standing by a black suv with big head lights.
“Hey Y/N” justin said kissing your cheek then opening the passenger door. You got into the suv, and the blue eyed boy ran to the driver side.
“So where we going Justin?”
“ i was thinking Rosies. It's a diner. They have amazing milkshakes and fries and burgers” justin said looking over at you smiling his killer smile.
“haha i like all those things!” you replied laughing.
You got to rosies and you were in awe at how homey it felt.
“Wow we didn't have anything like this back home” you told justin.
“Ya rosies is great” he replies leading you to a booth.
You sat across from justin. You looked at the menu. Up and down. There was so many options. How were you going to make up your mind?
“Justin there's way too many options. Help me out” you asked over dramatically.
“ get a shake for sure. Classic chocolate is the best. And their cheese burgers are to die for.”
The waitress walked up to your table.
“ hello can i take your order?”
“ i'll get a chocolate shake and a cheeseburger please” you said
“ i'll get the same thing” justin answered, looking at you.
The food arrived, you took a sip of your shake.
“Oh my god this is so good” you said with a smile.
“Now try the burger” justin replied holding up your burger so you could take a bite.
You took a bite and shook your head up and down.
“This is good.”
You were mind blown at how nice this guys was. Justin fed you your french fries as he asked you about your life in canada, your friends and of course, the stereotypes.
“ no justin we don't live in igloos. We live in houses”
“No we don't have dog sled, we have cars.”
“No its not snowy all the time we actually get four seasons”
It was amusing. He was a nice guy. He as very good with his words as well. A smooth talker.
“ you know you're smile is amazing. And you look very pretty tonight. i .. i mean you looked pretty at school too, but that dress. Wow! Stuuuuuuuning” he smiled and laughed
“And you look just as nice!”
Justin stood up and sat beside you in the booth.  He smiled as he placed his hands on yours.
You looked at your intertwined hands and blushed. You sat there, looking at each other, smiling.
“ you know we could be the next power couple of liberty” justin said as he winked.
“Power couple?” you questioned.
“Ya” justin said as he move a strand of hair behind your ear, biting his lip. You bit your lip, looking from his eyes to his lips. He leaned in slowly, cupping your face. Your faces were so close you could feel his breath on your lips. He closed the gap between you guys. Your lips touching, they were in sink right away. Almost like you were made for each other. The kissing continued before the waitress broke your moment.
“Is this together or seperate for your bill?” she asked
“Seperate” You said at the exact same time that justin said together.
You blushed even harder.
“ oh wow justin you don't have too” you told him
“Naw its ok. I'm not gonna take a pretty girl like you out and not pay.” justin answered you.
He paid for the bill and grabbed your hand as you got up from your seat. You walked out of rosies hand in hand. Justin leading you to the passenger door of his black suv. Before opening the door, he pushed you up against the car door, cupping your face, kissing you again. You wrapped your arms around his neck, kissing him back. The butterflies in your stomach went crazy. You kissed for a few minutes before he pulled away.
“I should probably get you home. I don't need your parents hating me on the first date.” Justin said as he opened the passenger door for you
“Just so you know, i don't have a curfew. Never have.” you replied as he drove off in the direction of your house.
Justin pulled up to your house. “Thank you for tonight” you said as you leaned against the middle compartment.
“No, thank you for joining me. And making my night amazing.” he replied leaning in closer to you.
Your lips touched again. He kissed you passionately. Like no one has ever kissed you.
“So do you wanna be my girlfriend?” justin asked between kisses.
You pulled away asking “ did you just ask me to be your girlfriend?”
“yes . i did. I had great time tonight. And you're a great girl and i can be myself around you. And i like you.” justin told you as he grabbed your hands.
“ yes haha Yes ok i'll be your girlfriend” you said leaning in to kiss justin. He kissed you back.
“I'll see you tomorrow.” you said to him between kisses. You kissed a few more times before you opened the passenger door and walked out, waving to your new boyfriend as he waited for you to get into your house before driving off.
Jason’s Reason [Power Rangers 2017]
The Rangers decide after everything with Rita is said and done with that it was time to celebrate with a bonfire. This time it’s Jason’s turn to tell the others all his secrets.
~My headcanon revolving Jason and why he pulled that stunt but didn’t seem too broken up about not being able to play Football anymore. Pre-Poly Power Rangers – Jason/Billy/Zach/Kimberly/Trini~
Jason breathed through his nose when his foot landed the wrong way on the steep hill he was climbing up to get to the place where the others were waiting for him. Jason leaned against a nearby rock and massaged his knee as it throbbed a bit.
“There you are Red, you were taking your time so the others sent me to find you.” Zack’s voice rang out causing Jason to look up taken off guard.
“I’m fine Zack, thanks for looking though.” Jason straightened up and took another step only to grunt in pain as his bad knee gave out on him.
“Whoa!” Zack cried in shock, already moving to support Jason against his own side.
“Sorry about that, just landed funny.” Jason tried to brush it off but the look Zack gave him told him that he wasn’t fooling the Black Ranger one bit.
“We’ll ice your knee when we get to the others okay?” Zack’s voice was gentle and he hefted Jason’s upright and together they staggered up to where the others were already drinking beer by the roaring campfire.
“Jason!” Kim leaped to her feet to help Zack aid Jason and settle him his empty chair. Trini dug around in the ice cooler until she found an ice pack and tossed it to the Red Ranger who easily caught it and with a exhale he placed it on his knee.
“Thanks, Trini.” Jason nodded his thanks and she flashed him a small smile while Billy shuffled his chair closer to Jason while wringing his hands.
“I’m fine Billy I swear,” Jason reassured the other teen, fighting back the urge to hold Billy’s hand; unsure how Billy was feeling about psychical contact after everything they had been through lately.
“Fine is not collapsing on the trail.” Zack scoffed but his eyes gleamed with real worry as he sank into his own chair and Kim just pursed her lips but settled back in her own chair that was right next to Trini’s.
“Zack’s right, my knee may have been mostly healed by our ‘superpowers’ when we got our coins but every so often it still hurts and after the battle with Rita and those putties, it’s been hurting more often. I just need to take it easy and I’ll be fine, no reason to worry.” Jason explained and smiled when Billy was the one to reach over and lace their fingers together in comfort.
“Just tell us next time it starts to hurt okay?” Kim said firmly as she leaned against Trini who just finished passing Zack another beer.
“Yeah and I’ll be sure to carry you bridal style,” Trini smirked at Jason who just laughed.
“Seriously though man, don’t scare me like that,” Zack muttered and Jason reached over his free hand and smiled when Zack shuffled his chair over and let Jason rest his arm around his shoulders.
“I will I promise.” Jason made eye contact with each of them.
“Jason never breaks a promise so I know he’s going to tell us when he’s hurting next time. All of us will tell at least one of us, I don’t want anyone hurt anymore. I want everyone safe and sound.” Billy said firmly as he nodded to himself.
“You got it, Billy.” The others murmured their agreement, eyes softening as they gazed at Billy.
“So um, while we waiting for you, I told the others about what I did. The picture, punching Ty, everything.” Kim broke the silence that had settled over the group as the fire crackled and ashes rose up into the sky above them.
“That’s good,” Jason smiled when he saw Trini take Kim’s hand and the Pink Ranger just held on tight.
“Why are you two way over there? Come over here!” Billy exclaimed as an idea popped into his head and he waved his hands until Trini and Kim had dragged their chairs over to join them. Trini having kicked her feet up onto Zack’s lap with a wiggle of her eyebrows while Kim curled up in her chair and smiled when Billy slowly put his hand on her knee and she covered it with her own hand.
“I don’t actually like football,” Jason said out of the blue as he watched the fire spark and flare in front of the group. He knew without looking he had all their attention now. It was only fair that they knew about him now as well.
“For as long as I could remember I had been playing football, I loved it as a kid. It was the only time I had with my dad you know. It was easier back then before Pearl was born and then I had a little sister who I wanted to be there for. I wanted to go to her recitals and important events or just play tag with her in the backyard… Football always came first.” Jason shifted and before he could move to catch the ice pack, Trini snatched it and pressed it to his knee for him and nodded her head at him to keep talking.
“When I got on the team in high school, it was great my dad came to games we would spend hours together just going over plays… Then it hit me one day while looking at his jersey in the school hallway after he told me how he was contacting some scouts for scholarships to college for football… He intended for me to do this for the rest of my life, to go pro… I just couldn’t stomach the idea of it, I also couldn’t stomach the idea of telling my dad after all these years I didn’t want to play anymore… when the other approached me with the idea of stealing beefcake I realized that was the perfect way to get kicked off the team.”
Jason took a steady breath and carried on when Billy squeezed his hand in reassurance.
“It was a cowardly way but I rather have my dad angry at me than disappointed you know? I didn’t intend to get hurt in that crash, but having a busted knee really helped my cause of not playing football anymore… I had a concussion, a busted knee, and some blood loss so I agreed with my dad’s idea of pleading guilty… Then he left me alone and hurt in jail for 3 days and made me walk across town when I finally was let out. That may be one of the reasons I felt angry all the time, why none of my plans ever seemed to work out and why everyone in this town says my name like it was a curse word. So yeah what I said at the last campfire was true, everyone knows me. I’m Jason Scott, the town screw up.” Jason fell silent and chest silently heaving as he realized that was the first time he had said it all aloud and he felt lighter than he would have expected.
“Oh, Jason.” Kim reached forward and gripped the blond’s uninjured leg in a silent reassurance.
“That’s kind of messed up man.” Zach ran his fingers through his own hair as he absorbed what Jason just told them.
“No worse than some of the shit I pulled in my old schools,” Trini shrugged and winked at Jason who relaxed at the Yellow Ranger’s reassurance.
“You aren’t the town screw up Jason, they just don’t know the real you,” Billy said firmly as he nodded his head to himself as he tightened his grip on Jason’s hand.
“I thought I had a messed up relationship with my dad.” Kim shook her head and Jason sent her a small smile understanding what she was trying to convey.
“Doesn’t matter you’re with us now and your stuck with us oh Red Leader,” Zach announced firmly making the others crack smiles and the atmosphere lightened up.
“Wouldn’t be anywhere else,” Jason said firmly. “Now someone pass me a beer and let’s get this celebration started!”
“That’s what I’m talking about.” Trini beamed as she passed Jason a beer bottle.
“A toast!” Billy held up his own unopened beer.
“We faced down Rita and everything she threw at us and we came out the other side. We’re different now but closer and stronger. I wouldn’t go back and change anything since everything that happened means that we are here together now. So to us!” Billy took his time as he managed to get the right words out but none of them pushed him they just kept their attention on Billy with fondness and something else on all their faces.
“To us!” The others raised their bottles as the fire behind them let sparks and ashes rise up into the night sky.
Drunk
Summary: College roommates Kimberly and Trini goes out to a party and gets drunk. Let’s just say the night end with them sleeping together.
Rating: T
AN: Still set in the Power Rangers world, they just grew up and now in college.
“Come on, Trini. I know you’re this introverted, shy, and don’t like to really be involved but I am here to find you a girl… and that girl is going to be at the party… and you’re going to woo her and etc.” Kimberly continued to tug on her best friend’s arm to get her off the couch and off to start dressing up to go to the party. “Get up, Trini! We’re going to be late”
“Kimberly, I have told you so many times, parties like this are not my thing. A bunch of frat boys wanting to get in your pants and sorority girls just gossiping about appearance. No thank you” Trini retaliated her arm away from Kim, who pouted.
“Just this once… Please. Zach is out of the country, I can’t bring Billy cause… He’s Billy, and well… Since Jason and I broke up months ago, I think I’m ready to get back out there you know? So please please please” Kimberly begged, sitting down on their couch next to Trini.
“You know, Kim, you don’t need to flaunt yourself around parties just to get a guy. He’ll come when the time is right. Same goes for me” Trini faced her best friend to put some sense into her brain. “Besides, if your plan to go to the party is to flirt, I’ll just be a sitting duck”
Kimberly stayed silent. “Okay, fine. You’re right, ever since the break up, I’ve just been flaunting myself. No flirting at the party just you and I, some drinks, just two best friends having a good time.”
Trini looked directly into her best friend’s eyes. The girl that she has been in love with since her Queen Bee days back in Angel Grove High School, unexpectedly finding the power coins together and becoming Power Rangers, and now her best friend. Those eyes that she couldn’t resist. Kimberly had asked her to go to previous parties but Trini always rejected, Kimberly didn’t push since she had Jason by her side and going to that party would just be heartache for her to see Kimberly and Jason together.
“Okay… Just this once. If I say the party sucks, we go home, no exceptions, Hart!” Trini pointed, getting up from the couch, “Alright, let’s go” Trini pulled up her small bag messily placed on the coffee table.
Kimberly stared at her best friend in awe. Trini is not going to a college party wearing ripped capri jeans and a beanie. “Uh, no, you’re not wearing that”
“What? But this is totally me” Trini tried to argue but Kimberly already started walking towards Trini’s room. Trini followed right behind to find Kimberly raiding her closet.
“Let’s see… Bomber jackets, flannels, tank tops… Do you have a dress or something?” Kimberly asked still looking through the rack of clothing. “Wait, I think I might have something” Kimberly exited the room and headed to her own bedroom, opening her closet and pulling a yellow dress.
“It was on sale and I couldn’t return it. It was too short for my taste. I think this will fit you just fine” Kimberly shoved the dress towards Trini who immediately disapproved. “Go change”
Trini turned around to head to the bathroom, rolling her eyes, “This is going to be the worst party ever”
“You look like a scared chihuahua. C’mon breath in deep then release. Have more confidence in yourself” Kimberly placed an arm around Trini who was just dead scared not knowing what to expect, being her first college party.
As they entered the house where the party is handled, groups of people clustered together, loud music playing over people’s voices, and holding drinks in their hands and having a good time.
“C’mon let’s get some drinks” Kimberly led Trini to main room where all the booze was self serve. Kimberly grabbed two solo cups and placed them on the table. Examining the drinks, Kimberly grabbed the bottled pink lemonade, then adding vodka to both drinks.
“Hey guys,” Both Trini and Kimberly looked up from their drinks and saw Jason come up to them, grabbing two beers from the cooler. “Didn’t expect to see both of you here, especially you, Trini”
“Well, Kimberly dragged me” Trini forced a smile to Jason.
“Oh, yeah… Uhm… Just wanted to have a night out, y’know?” Kimberly played it cool. It’s not like Jason and Kimberly are in bad terms. In fact, they were still best friends since they are Power Rangers and they see each other almost on a weekly basis for training. To Kimberly, seeing Jason as a friend and teammate was different from seeing him in a party. A lot of people in this party knew ho Kimberly Hart is and her relationship with Jason Scott was. But everything is different now after not showing up to missed parties.
“So, you here by yourself, Jason?” Trini asked, noticing the two beer bottles in his hands.
“No, I’m… with someone. A friend. I should go though, I don’t want to keep her waiting. Have fun you two” Jason walked out. Kimberly and Trini’s eyes following his direction and then handed the drink so some blonde bimbo.
“Kim?” Trini asked breaking Kim out of her death stare towards the blonde.
“Hm?”
“You okay?”
“Yep… Totally over it” Kim turned around again. Bottle of vodka still in her hand, she grabbed a shot glass and poured the clear drink in. The taking it without second thought. Trini’s eyes went wide open. Trini had seen Kimberly drink but not like this. Trini already knew that she was going to be taking care of her best friend tonight and tomorrow.
Kimberly took a drink of her pink lemonade and vodka mix to get rid of the burning sensation in her mouth.
“Not strong enough” Kimberly mentioned, adding a little bit more juice and a lot more alcohol. Without warning, Kimberly added more vodka to Trini’s cup.
“Oh, okay” Trini mentioned after having much more vodka in her drink. Trini estimated that there was probably two to three shots of vodka in her drink and probably more in Kimberly’s drink. Which will get them both fucked up.
“Cheers” Kimberly raised her solo cup and clinked their drinks together.
“Cheers indeed” Trini said in a low voice then proceeded to drink and coughed right after.
“What about her, she’s pretty cute?” Kimberly pointed at another random girl that she believes is perfect for Trini. As they sat together on the living room couch watching people, Kimberly kept on touching Trini on some places like there knee, her hand, getting a little too low on the back.
They had gone from vodka, to jello shots, and now nursing their second beer.
“Kim, we agreed no flirting” Trini was more sober but she was still drunk off her ass, but she knew her limit unlike Kimberly right now. Trini would catch Kimberly’s eyes wander around and landing on Jason and how his hands are on the waist of his ‘friend’
“I think it’s time to go home.” Trini laid her head back on the couch just to clear her head after all the alcohol.
“I think you’re right” Kimberly said sloppily. Trini got up the couch and straightened her dress. Kimberly drank the rest of her beer in one big gulp, dropped it on the floor and got up, almost tripping down but luckily caught by Trini. “Thank you, best friend… You’re the best” Kimberly gave her a kiss on the cheek which made Trini blush so badly.
Kimberly wrapped her arm around Trini’s arm tightly and made their way out the door, passing by Jason and his ‘friend.’
“Bye, Jason. See you next week, okay?” Kimberly let out a smile and then a laugh as she stumbled out the door. Trini gave a small wave and saw that Jason gave them a wave as well.
Luckily, the two girls went to the party early and left early so they won’t be going home with weirdos and creeps as they walk to their apartment, which is a couple minutes walk.
Trini basically had to drag Kimberly’s drunk ass home, drunk herself which is harder than Power Rangers training to her.
Trini opened the apartment door with her arm holding Kimberly steady. Dropping the keys down to the floor and locking the doors. She dropped Kimberly on their couch to catch her breath.
“Go to your room and sleep. I’ll prepare some water and aspirin for us tomorrow” Trini said going to the bathroom to grab the aspirin.
Kimberly’s eyes now followed Trini, watching her move from the bathroom to the kitchen in that yummy yellow dress. And all the sudden, Kimberly could only think of how nice girls’ hands are compared to boys, how smooth girls’ lips looks compared to boys’ not so well maintained ones, and how smooth girls’ bodies were compared to boys’.
Kimberly got up and got behind Trini. Kimberly’s hands on Trini’s waist, her head on Trini’s shoulder and her hot breath dangerously close to Trini’s ears.
“I think I now realize why you like girls” Kimberly whispered to Trini’s ear. Kimberly lowered the strap on Trini’s dress and started kissing her neck then shoulder.
“Kimberly… Kim… I—We shouldn’t be doing this” Trini replied but didn’t break away from Kimberly’s touch. Arms wrapped around Trini’s stomach and then Kimberly spun her around to face her.
Kimberly took Trini’s lips on her own. Trini can smell in alcohol in her breath and it was intoxicating. Years of wanting for this to happen… It happens on a drunken night where Kimberly wasn’t thinking straight (lol).
Trini resisted receiving kisses from Kimberly because she knows that none of this is real. That there is no feelings behind this kiss. But Trini gave in and indulged in Kimberly’s sloppy yet passionate kiss.
Trini broke away, she convinced herself that she is happy that she had finally kissed Kimberly at least once in her lifetime and she could not want any more from her. “Kim… Please” Trini whispered to Kimberly’s breath.
“Please what, babe?” Kimberly’s hands groped Trini’s ass. Kimberly starts walking towards the living room while kissing Trini’s neck bringing Trini with her.
Trini moans as hands continued to wander up and down her body. Trini places her hands on Kimberly’s waist. Losing control of herself to lust. She kissed Kimberly.
The two stumbled around the living room, lips not leaving each other. Eventually, they both reached Kimberly’s bedroom door, kicked the door closed.
Kimberly and Trini both fell on the bed with Kimberly on top.
The clothes shed off by each other, kisses, moans, and names called out in pleasure was all part of that night.
Trini woke up the next morning with a raging headache. An arm around a body, as well as the body’s arm around her. She immediately knew what happened and who it was in her arms. Trini looked up at Kimberly’s sleeping face. She still can’t believe the fact that she is naked in bed with her crush since forever.
Trini pressed her lips to Kimberly’s lips lightly, almost featherlike. Breaking away, Trini starts getting out of bed, lightly taking off Kimberly’s arm on her and making sure that Kimberly stays asleep for as long as she can stall the awkward conversation the best friends are about to have.
Trini picked up all her clothing and bringing it with her to her own bedroom, she put on some loose clothing and shorts, headed to the bathroom and splashed her face with water. Upon exiting, Trini made her way to the kitchen to grab the aspirin and bottle of water. As she stood in front of the counter, visions of last night came to her and how she could feel Kimberly’s touch on her body and Kimberly’s lips on her neck and shoulders.
Trini took the pills in her hand and popped it in her mouth followed by water. She placed two more in her palm and brought the water with her, entering Kimberly’s bedroom and placing the pills and water on her nightstand.
For the next hour, Trini had laid down on their couch watching netflix just waiting for Kimberly to wake up.
Meanwhile, inside the bedroom, Kimberly starts waking up with her raging headache. Noticing quickly, she looked under the covers and noticed she was fully naked and her clothing was on the ground. She saw a bottle of water and aspirin on her nightstand and took it without a doubt.
‘Jesus, I can’t remember what happened last night at all’ Kimberly stands up and puts on some loose clothing and shorts. She opens the door, about to head to the bathroom just to freshen her face but the television was on then Trini’s head popped up from the couch.
“Hey…” Trini starts, she gets up from her position and stands up with her hands and fingers fiddling near her torso and trying to look at Kimberly’s eyes but can’t find the courage to. “How are you feeling?”
“Like shit… I’ll be right back” Kimberly goes to the bathroom to wash her face, leaving Trini to her own thoughts.
Trini starts to wonder, basing off Kimberly’s expression, either she remembers everything and suddenly turns gay for Trini or doesn’t remember anything at all. Kimberly then exits out of the bathroom.
“So uhm… I woke up naked and I don’t remember what happened last night… Do you know… what happened last night? Like who I presumably slept with? Did he leave?” Kimberly walked past Trini and sat down at the couch with head leaning back trying to get rid of the headache still.
‘He’ is what Kimberly said. Kimberly presumed it was a man she slept with. It meant that Kimberly’s search for sexuality last night was all drunk talk.
Trini grabbed the remote and turned the TV off, taking a deep breath then standing in front of Kimberly.
“Kim…” Trini started, grabbing Kimberly’s attention. “We slept together last night”
Kimberly stared at her best friend straight in the eye. Surely, Trini wasn’t lying about something like this.
“I’m sorry, Kim…” Trini started crying and broke down at the floor. “I know what happened last night, well, it’s kind of blurry but you got drunk because of Jason and I got drunk with you and we went home and you started touching me and kissing me and…” Trini looked at Kimberly who had already stood up. “And I’ve been so in love with you for so long… That I just gave in to your touch and I let you take me”
Kimberly got down to the floor to comfort her best friend but Trini pushed herself away from Kimberly, who is left confused.
“Stop… You’re into guys. I don’t want you to be like me” Trini said in a defeated voice. Tears still flowing down her face, her legs and arms protecting her torso, body language for protecting herself. Protecting herself from further hurt.
Kimberly stays where she is and sits on the floor, processing all the information.
“Trini… After last night, things aren’t going to be the same between the two of us anymore. But maybe last night was like an awakening for me… Maybe I wanted to experiment of girls as well. Now that I think about it, I think I may be bisexual. I find boys attractive… but I also find you very attractive” Kimberly said trying to get her best friend’s eye contact.
Kimberly started moving closer to Trini and finally took her tiny friend in her arms and comforted her.
“I’m sorry I hurt you. I’m so sorry I’m so blind to not see how you feel. Oh God, I’m so sorry I used to bring Jason here and kiss him in front of you. I’m just so sorry that I hurt you” Kimberly’s hug tightened around Trini.
“You shouldn’t be sorry. I am. I’m the one with this… mentality” Trini yelled at herself.
“Stop it!” Kimberly took Trini’s face in her hands and forced her to look into her eyes. “There’s nothing wrong with being gay. It’s what make you… you. And I love you no matter what.” Kimberly said, stroking Trini’s back. “And now you’re going to help me awaken my sexuality, okay?”
“What?” Trini asked looking up at Kimberly’s sincere smiling face.
“How about a date… Next Friday night?”
Trini examined her best friend’s face. All Trini felt all the sudden was love just seeing her face. Trini felt calm.
“Are you sure?” Trini wiped her tear and let out a small smile.
“Absolutely” Kimberly took Trini’s face and kissed her cheek.
Thank you for reading!
I’m thinking of making the Roommates!AU into a collection of stories or something like that :)
Finding Peace in Another Part 3
Math class wasn’t as bad as I thought. Though, I had already learned most of what the teacher, Mr. Daniel was teaching. It was nice for me, given how my previous math classes had gone, to finally be on the same page and have somewhat of a firm grasp on the concepts. I saw Scott in my class but he was surrounded by other students so I couldn’t sit near him, plus it could be good to branch out and meet other people. I ended up finding a seat with a few people that looked nice enough. They introduced themselves as Alex, Jessica, Justin, and Clay. There was another boy next to us with jet black hair who introduced himself to me as Cyrus. He seemed like good people. He reminded me of my friends back home. I introduced myself the same way I had all day, my name and then my preferred nickname.
They all seemed pretty nice and like people I would want to spend time with. My left sleeve fell down as I asked a question during class, exposing both my old and fresh tattoos. Some lyrics that are important to me and a semicolon. Cyrus must have seen them because he threw a note at my desk that read, ‘nice tats. Good lyrics, wouldn’t have pegged you for a fan of them. Hang out sometime? And I’m sorry.’ I knew he was referring to the semicolon. I looked up and smiled at him, then wrote my phone number down on the paper and passed it back to him. After class, I said goodbye to the little group and saw Zach waiting for me to go to Peer Communications. We quickly got to talking and laughing as if we had known each other our whole lives, and exchanged numbers. I was dreading the whole ‘introduce yourself and tell us X about you’ thing in our next class. Zach assured me that it wouldn’t be that bad. Class was kind of interesting, and Zack was right. The introduction wasn’t as bad as I thought, Ms. Bradley simply said I was a transfer student and introduced me, and then I said to call me Becca. Quick and easy, just how I like awkward forced introductions to go. In class we discussed making people feel welcome, which I assume was selected because of my first day here. We went around in a circle and brainstormed ideas while she wrote them down. After class, Zach explained what the compliment bags were and I smiled at the idea. Maybe if we had those at my old school.... Zach and I walked out of class together and he kindly escorted me to my locker, where Bryce and Montgomery were chatting about something. I waved politely as I opened my locker. I felt my phone buzz in my pocket and checked the text, it was from an unknown number. Opening the text, I saw it was from Cyrus. ‘Hey Becca, it’s Cyrus. I was wondering if you wanted to hang out and work on some math or listen to music or something this evening?’ I heard Zach invite Montgomery over for some video games, which he declined saying he had plans. Quickly responding to Cyrus ‘can’t today, have to unpack the rest of my stuff. Rain check?’ Locking my phone and looking up, I saw Chloe latched onto Bryce’s arm making plans for him to go to her place since her parents were out of town for a few days. Getting my stuff together, I walked to my car, waiting for Monty to meet me. When he came, he apologized for making me wait, he was talking with Bryce and Zach and couldn’t get away. I told him it was okay and that I lived 4 houses up from Bryce, so he could just follow me there and we could get to the dirty work of unpacking. Laughing, he agreed and we met back up at my place.
Walking up to my door, I unlocked it. “Sorry about the mess, I’ve been trying to keep it clean in here but with the unpacking and organizing, it can be a little hard.” I explained, hoping he would understand. He nodded as we walked in and put our respective things down. “Did you want something to eat or anything? I went to the grocery store the other day and I’m fairly good in the kitchen.” I asked him, ever the good hostess.
“Sure. I’ll take a water if you have. As far as food goes, I’m good with pretty much whatever you feel like.” He responded, looking around at all the boxes.
“Sure. Here you go.” I tossed him the bottle and he caught it easily. Must be those sports developed reflexes. I noticed him looking around, “I don’t need to do all of it today, I just wanted to get some of my stuff done so my room feels a little more... mine, you know?” I explained, hoping he didn’t think I was just using him for manual labour.
“No problem, I’m happy to help.” He replied sincerely smiling at me. Going through the fridge, I pulled out various ingredients and got things together for dinner.
“How does chicken and rice sound?”
“Great. Need any help?” He offered, coming towards the kitchen and sitting at the island.
“Umm... I should be okay. I’m just going to run upstairs and change really quick before I get started.”
“Okay. I’ll be here.” He said nodding and smirking. I ran upstairs and looked through my clothes for something to wear that wasn’t too risqué but I could also move comfortably in. I settled on a pair of grey yoga pants and left my cardigan on my bed. Running back down, I saw him reading one of the books I left downstairs last night. When he noticed me, he tried to play it off like he wasn’t reading it, merely looking and filling time. I laughed and got dinner on the go for us, feeling him watch my every move. Deciding to make myself some tea, I tried to reach the mugs. They were on the second shelf from the top, so it was a feat to try and get them down with my short stature. I heard Montgomery chuckle at my difficulties as he came and grabbed one down for me. “Here you go. Need any other high up things while I’m here little one?” He said as he handed it to me.
“Haha very funny. Actually, I just decided on our first order of business. Can you please move all the mugs down to the empty bottom shelf so I can reach them?” I said rolling my eyes.
“No problem.” He said as he set to work on the mugs, and I got the last bits of dinner in the oven. While dinner was cooking, I grabbed the few books that were downstairs and took him upstairs to my room so we could get started on some of the boxes I had up there. I had already built two bookshelves for my books but had yet to get to putting them away. Pointing to the six boxes of books in the corner, I told him that was our first project and that it would probably take us the longest. He looked at the boxes all labeled ‘books’ and tried not to laugh. “What?” I asked him, raising my eyebrow.
“Nothing. Just imagining you getting all those books up here by yourself. One of those boxes is like half of your size” He replied before bursting into laughter. I glared at him but couldn’t keep myself from smiling.
“Well it wasn’t easy, but the movers took pity on me and carried most of them up for me. Now, time to get to work. I don’t remember how I put them in the boxes, and I like them organized a certain way, so we could be at this for a while.” I walked over to the pile of boxes and put my hair up in a bun to keep it out of the way. Motioning for him to come over to me, I opened the first box and explained how I like them organized. He listened attentively. “Starting with the shelf on the left, I want them organized by series first, stand alone second, and the box marked special books last. All in alphabetical order according to author. Oh and before you think about putting them where I can’t reach, start in the middle of the bookcase.”
“Maybe we should organize them on the floor first and then put them in the case after. To avoid any mistakes and things.” He suggested, opening a box and pulling out a few books. Forty-five minutes later, we had moved to sitting on my bed and had organized series from A-F and stand alone books from A-K. We heard the timer go off and decided to take a break for dinner. After dinner, we got back to work, talking and joking with each other and managed to get through 6 more letters in each category, as well as some of my decor pieces before we decided to call it a night and push the books out of the way. I walked him to the door and thanked him for coming over to help. “Any time Rebecca. Just let me know if you need any more help.” He grabbed his bag as I opened the door for him.
“Okay, I will. I had a good time tonight. Get home safe.”
“Will do. I had fun too. I’ll see you tomorrow at school little one.” He said, and then he surprised me. He pulled me in for a tight hug before leaving, waving to me from his jeep before driving away. I made sure he was out of view before closing the door. Climbing back upstairs with a smile on my face, I got ready for bed. Climbing into bed, I realized that I hadn’t even thought about Jake all evening, and also that my bed smelled like Montgomery. Curling up in a ball, I fell asleep surrounded in his scent.
