“My Little Pony” convention raided by Russian authorities for “LGBT propaganda”
A convention celebrating My Little Pony in Russia was deemed “LGBT propaganda” by authorities and shut down by federal agents. The pint-sized ponies are just too gay for diminutive Russian president Vladimir Putin. Related: Russia investigates Duolingo for spreading “traumatizing” LGBTQ+ content The popular language learning app includes “everyday depictions of LGBTQ+ life” that “show queer people… in an unsensationalized and normal way.” The raid was conducted to break up an event mounted by fans of the popular pony series and toys. The event was called “Mi Amore Fest,” according to Russian-language news site The Insider, based in Latvia. Global perspectives delivered daily Our daily newsletter bridges borders to bring you LGBTQ+ news from around the world. Organizers went so far as to change the rainbow-colored mane of the central character, Rainbow Dash, to a Russia-themed tricolor pattern of red, blue, and white on fliers advertising the event. It didn’t fool authorities. Federal agents in Moscow have raided and ended a My Little Pony convention on the grounds that it constituted "gay propaganda." Even painting the animal's mane in the Russian tricolor couldn't save this one. https://t.co/KIv00sKoeN pic.twitter.com/p68hiFCmWm— Kevin Rothrock (@KevinRothrock) February 17, 2024 Attendees shared a world-weary reaction to the latest Kafkaesque scene in Putin’s anti-LGBTQ+ drama. “Apparently, you won’t be able to get to the festival anymore. While we were drinking coffee, a squad arrived and dispersed everyone. They wrote a statement for LGBT propaganda. Well, let’s go home.”  Another Russian and English-language news site, Meduza, reported that Russian government-aligned movie database Kinopoisk added an 18+ symbol next to the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic television series. Telegram channel Sota speculated that the decision was based on the character Rainbow Dash’s rainbow mane. In addition to the rainbow-hued Dash, MLP has featured multiple characters with nonconforming character traits since its introduction as a toy by Hasbro in 1982. The first animated series debuted in 1986. A recent Russian Supreme Court ruling at the urging of Putin’s Ministry of Justice declared the so-called “international LGBT rights movement” a terrorist organization, just one of several laws aimed at erasing LGBTQ+ identity from Russia and passed at Putin’s direction. The convention raid was just the latest crackdown in that effort. Last week, two women were taken into custody after video they posted on social media revealed them kissing in a pizzeria not far from one of Putin’s palaces in the city of Krasnodar in southwest Russia. Another woman was recently arrested and charged after she and her companion were accosted at a restaurant by an angry mob complaining about her rainbow-styled earrings and her companion’s Ukraine flag lapel pin.   A Russian federal watchdog group is investigating language app Duolingo for “distribution of information that promotes LGBT,” and a Russian rapper spent 15 days in jail for the LGBTQ+ crime of wearing only a sock at a party. In Yekaterinburg, Russia’s fourth-largest city, a video distributed by local news outlet Ura.ru revealed riot police storming a dance club and ordering patrons out, while in December, a crackdown in Moscow saw police raid a nightclub, a male sauna, and an LGBTQ+-inclusive bar in the Russian capital, with officers checking and photographing patrons’ IDs.  http://dlvr.it/T3CLK9

Reasons why I think Hws Switzerland is trans man:
Like it would make much more sense than him being cis.
1. In Japan he's voiced by a woman
2. He's shorter and slimmer than most of other male characters.
3. At first he was meant to be female. (For example my little pony fandom often headcannons one pony as trans bc she was planned to be male at first)
4. In one episode Japan was dreaming about him as female in a dress, like he didnt knew yet about his transition.
5. Tbh the way he dresses gives me trans vibes (rather baggy clothes, for example hoodies as on photo below).
6. (Tw: social dysphoria) He rather doesnt like to express his emotions, like it's due to social dysphoria bc being sensitive is considered as "feminine" (i hdc him to have low body dysphoria but quite a lot social one)

Del’s ideal Eurovision winners keeping win records
We’re well into June and post-Eurovision season now, and I’m going to start posting my full winners ranking sometime next week. However, as I was doing a first rough ranking back in April, I started thinking about how some countries’ only victory comes with a song I don’t like, and I’d much rather something else had won that year, but I feel bad about that because it’s their only victory – if only they’d won with a different song in another year. This got me wondering if I could come up with a list of winners that keeps every countries’ win record (Ireland 7, Sweden 6 etc.) which suits my tastes more. I gave this a shot back in April, with the only rule being that the final list had to keep every countries’ win record – I could keep actual winners, I could put ties to get to the total 68 winning songs wherever I wanted, and I could pick a winner from 2020, since this is a fantasy list after all.
Looking back at that list post Eurovision, I wanted to challenge myself even further, and I made some new rules: 1. To really keep the win record as it stands, the UK, France, The Netherlands, and Spain need to have a four-way tie one year – no other ties are allowed. 2. 2020 didn’t take place, so I can’t pick a winner from there. 3. I can’t pick any songs that actually won – this was both to make things more interesting and challenge myself to not fall back on the obvious choices, and also to avoid spoiling my upcoming winners ranking
All that said, here’s my list of ideal winners (maintaining win records by country) by year:

Tumblr media
If I lose the light of the sun, I will write by candlelight, moonlight, no light. If I lose paper and ink, I will write in blood on forgotten walls. I will write always. I will capture nights all over the world and bring them to you. – Henry Rollins
Hi! I’m George. One day, I will be a professor of history, who wears tweed suits and lives in a library. Right now, I am a graduate student, who wears jeans and t-shirts and… um… lives in a library.
Reviews and PMs.
I don’t demand or even expect reviews. They do, however, make me happy. So if you are kind enough to leave one after reading, please know that even though I may not reply, I read every single one, and I am incredibly grateful - your few words of praise have brightened a moment of my day. :-)
If you send me a Private Message and don’t receive a response immediately, please know that I am not deliberately ignoring you. I find it a little difficult to keep up with replying to PMs; if I haven’t responded to your message in at least three months, it’s usually because I’ve, er, lost it. Feel free to send me another one calling me a giant prat and demanding a response.
Fanart and Translations.
I am perfectly okay (quite ecstatically happy, actually) with people doing whatever they like with my fics – whether that be translations, fanart, cosplay, AMVs, whatever. You do not need to ask permission - I will always say yes. All I ask is three things. One: please credit me as the author (and a link to the original story would be fantastic). Two: please let me know so that I can check it out and thank you profusely! And three: something I hate to have to mention, but please never do anything to make money out of these works. Obviously, Hetalia does not belong to me – it belongs to the amazing Hidekaz Himaruya, who is incredibly awesome for giving us such fantastic characters to play with. :-D
MY STORIES
THE VERAVERSE
The Veraverse is a Hetalia World War Two AU, of fics involving different characters and pairings, all living within the same time period and all interconnected in some way. As each story in the series is named after and loosely based on the lyrics of a wartime song sung by Vera Lynn, I flippantly dubbed it the ‘Veraverse.’ The name has sort of stuck, however. I have posted a list of character's birth dates here: http://george-de-valier.deviantart.com/art/Hetalia-Veraverse-Birth-Dates-340315828
This series is, at its core, about the power of love over war. It's about the real reasons people fight, and the real reasons they survive. It's about finding something beautiful in the midst of something ugly and evil. But overall, although I hope there is more to these stories than just romance, they are essentially about love.
Don’t expect every fic to be updated quickly. These stories intertwine, and will be published simultaneously, and it may be a while between chapters for each specific story. Most can be read separately, however a few will require that you read at least one other story in the series to make sense of it (e.g. ‘My Echo’ does not make much sense unless you also read ‘Lily of the Lamplight.’) Rest assured, they will all be completed.
We'll Meet Again Alfred Jones/Arthur Kirkland (America/England)
Complete - Thirteen Chapters
‘We’ll Meet Again’ is about love arriving when you least expect it, and how it can transform loneliness.
Keep Smiling Through Alfred Jones/Arthur Kirkland (America/England)
Complete – One Shot
Just a little mini-sequel to ‘We’ll Meet Again’ about a brief moment in Alfred and Arthur’s lives.
Auf Wiedersehen, Sweetheart Ludwig Beilschmidt/Feliciano Vargas (Germany/Italy)
Complete - Eighteen chapters
‘Auf Wiedersehen, Sweetheart’ is about love being blind, proving stronger than hate, and lasting longer than war.
Bésame Mucho Antonio Fernandez Carriedo/Lovino Vargas (Spain/Romano)
In Progress – Fourteen chapters
‘Bésame Mucho’ is essentially about love overcoming fear.
Lily of the Lamplight Gilbert Beilschmidt/Roderich Edelstein (Prussia/Austria)
In Progress – Eighteen Chapters
‘Lily of the Lamplight’ is about selflessness, survival, and how love can change you for the better.
My Echo Unrequited Vash Zwingli/Roderich Edelstein (Switzerland/Austria)
In Progress – Six Chapters
‘My Echo’ is about how true love is selfless – even if it is unreturned.
Jealousy Ivan Braginski/Yao Wang (Russia/China)
In Progress – Six Chapters
‘Jealousy’ is a little different to the other stories in this series. It is about control, madness, and how love has the power to destroy as well as to save.
Something to Remember You By Sadik Adnan/Gupta Muhammad Hassan (Turkey/Egypt)
In Progress – Three Chapters
‘Something to Remember You By’ is about losing love, and yourself with it.
UPCOMING VERAVERSE FICS
Somewhere in France With You Francis Bonnefoy/Matthew Williams (France/Canada)
Darling, where better to meet again than the most beautiful city in the world?
It's a Lovely Day Tomorrow
Toris Laurinaitis/Feliks Łukasiewicz (Lithuania/Poland)
Art. Music. Passion. Destruction. Young, wild love, in the streets of Berlin, on the eve of war.
When I Grow Too Old to Dream Berwald Oxenstierna/Tino Väinämöinen (Sweden/Finland)
“What would you do if I just… took this tree? Claimed it for Finland?”
“I’d let ye take it.”
“This lake?”
“Ye can have it.”
“This entire forest?”
“’t’s yours.”
“Would you let me take your whole country, Berwald?”
“Yes. And you? What’f I just… took this rock?”
“You can’t have that rock. That’s a Finnish rock.”
You’ll Never Know
Elizaveta Héderváry/ Lili Zwingli (Hungary/Liechtenstein)
“But who knows? Maybe you'll meet a charming little Swiss girl with plaits and a basket who likes to yodel on mountaintops."
Elizaveta always hated it when Gilbert was right.
When the Lights go on Again
Eduard Von Bock/Raivis Galante (Estonia/Latvia)
"I will stay with him through this darkness. I will give my soul to keep it from him. And I swear, whatever I must do, that Raivis Galante will live to see the lights go on again.”
Room Five-Hundred-and-Four
Herakles Karpusi/Kiku Honda (Greece/Japan)
“Life's most important conversations take place in bars. Perhaps in places not too dissimilar from this - perhaps between people not so different from ourselves. Bars, after all, are where people meet, and where they rejoice; where they forget, and where they say goodbye. They are the crossroads of life."
"You sound like a philosopher. Though your name suggests a hero."
Faraway Places
Bad Friends Trio (France, Prussia, and Spain)
“Ah, those were the days, huh, Gil? Remember the time you tried to take on the entire Parisian police force?”
“Or the time you knocked yourself out running from that bull in Pamplona?”
“Or that time Francis tried to seduce your grandfather?!”
“Francis what?”
“Oh, look at that, I’ve finished my drink.”
Autumn Leaves
Augustus Roma Vargas (Ancient Rome)
But I miss you most of all, my darling, when autumn leaves start to fall.
OTHER FICS
THE MAPLEVERSE
This is a currently small modern AU, set in modern day Canada.
La Patisserie de la Rose Francis Bonnefoy/Matthew Williams (France/Canada)
Complete – Six Chapters
A birthday present for Claudia, aka ThisCouldTheoreticallyBeSparta
An essentially fluffy Franada with lots of cameos and cake and general silliness. I like to think this story is about friendship as much as it is about love. It's also about seeing something in someone that no one else can - not even themselves.
Libelle Hall Gilbert Beilschmidt/Roderich Edelstein (Prussia/Austria)
In Progress – Three Chapters
A Gift for Kay, aka Kay the Beta
‘Libelle Hall’ is about change, and about love growing from self-realisation. It’s also an examination of Gilbert and Roderich’s characters, and how they aren’t that different from each other, after all. And it’s a gift for my beta Kay, because she loves PruAus, and she’s awesome.
Of Ponies and Edelweiss Gilbert Beilschmidt/Roderich Edelstein (Prussia/Austria)
Complete – One Shot
A Valentines’ Day present for Claudia
Just a fluffy, romantic little fic for Valentines’ Day. Well, as romantic as Gilbert gets, anyway.
ONGOING MULTI-CHAPTERS
Catch Perfect Berwald Oxenstierna/Tino Väinämöinen (Sweden/Finland)
In Progress – Twelve Chapters
‘Catch Perfect’ is basically proof that I can’t even write crack without some semblance of plot and angst. I am still writing this, just ever so slowly.
The Tiger and the Dragon Ivan Braginski/Yao Wang (Russia/China)
In Progress – Seventeen Chapters
I first posted this story almost three years ago. Last year I started re-publishing it, mainly to fix up the writing quality and some plot points. Yes, it’s melodramatic; yes, it’s a bit cliché. Basically, if this were a published novel, it would be the type to have GAY EROTIC ROMANCE in tacky writing across the cover. But really, what the hell, it’s fun. :-D
COMPLETED ONE SHOTS
Stay With You Germany/Italy
A rare story with the characters as nations, and my very first posted fanfiction. I had just discovered Hetalia when I wrote this, and loved the random humour of it, but also wondered what it could be like if it was a more serious take on the Second World War. Also, it has always been blatantly obvious to me that Germany and Italy are in love with each other. Like, duh.
Gallipoli Australia and New Zealand
Another nation story from me, about a conflict embedded in the consciousness of every Australian. We haven’t been given much to go on with Australia’s characterisation, so I went with my gut instinct – he’s anti-authority, he’s an easily broken optimist, and he cares deeply about his men. Gallipoli shattered the romantic idea of war for this country. I think it would have shattered Australia, too.
Sleep, Little Bird Berwald Oxenstierna/Tino Väinämöinen (Sweden/Finland) and Peter (Sealand)
There is not much I can really say about this one, except sorry. Oh, and that it’s not in the same universe as ‘Catch Perfect.’ I wouldn’t do that. ;-)

The Heck horse is a horse breed that is claimed to resemble the tarpan (Equus ferus ferus), an extinct wild equine. The breed was created by the German zoologist brothers Heinz Heck and Lutz Heck in an attempt to breed back the tarpan. Although unsuccessful at creating a genetic copy of the extinct species, they developed a breed with grullo coloration and primitive markings.  Heck horses are dun or grullo (a dun variant) in color, with no white markings. The breed has primitive markings, including a dorsal stripe and horizontal striping on the legs. Heck horses generally stand between 12.2 and 13.2 hands tall. The head is large, the withers low, and the legs and hindquarters strong. The hooves are strong, often not needing shoeing. The gait of the Heck horse is high stepping, which makes them comfortable to ride and which is considered attractive while being driven. The breed is described as being calm, friendly, curious and intelligent, although very independent. The physical description of tarpans was very similar – strong, approximately the same height, and with the same coloration and primitive markings.
The tarpan was a Eurasian wild horse that became extinct in the wild in 1879, due to hunting and crossbreeding with domesticated horses, and in 1887 the last captive horse died in Russia. The Hecks believed they could recreate the extinct tarpan by back breeding living descendants. They believed they could combine and rearrange the genetic material from these living descendants into a recreation of the extinct horse.
The Heck brothers bred together several European small horse and pony breeds hypothesized to be descended from the tarpan. They eventually integrated mares of the Konik, Icelandic horse, and Gotland breeds. These mares were bred to Przewalski's horse stallions. The Hecks believed the wild Przewalski blood would help to draw out the wild characteristics they felt lay dormant in the domesticated pony breed mares. The first foal born from the program who had the desired coloration was a colt born on May 22, 1933. The breeding program continued, using only those horses who showed the desired skull shape, bone structure and coloration. Relatively quickly, the breed's conformation and coloration became set, with parents reliably passing their characteristics onto their offspring.
The first Heck horse in the United States was a stallion named Duke, imported in 1954 by the Chicago Zoological Park in Illinois, followed by two mares in 1955. A third mare was imported by the Fort Worth Zoological Park in Texas in 1962. All four horses came from the Munich Zoo and in the early 1990s, all Heck horses in the United States traced back to these animals. Several private breeders in the United States now use these horses for riding and light driving. In the early 1960s, the North American Tarpan Association was founded by Heck horse enthusiasts to promote the breed. In 2002, there were fewer than 100 Heck horses in the United States, most of them having descended from the six foundation horses, all imported from Germany. As of 2013, a small number of Heck horses lived in a feral state in Latvia.
