I could feel my heels clicking too loudly against the marble floor as I walked into the banquet hall, trying to steady my nerves. Another event. Another endless parade of corporate games and social politics. I’ve attended these my whole life, yet I never quite fit into them. Maybe because I knew exactly why I was here, to play the part of my father’s obedient daughter. His shadow. His assistant.
I glanced toward my father, Chuck, standing near the bar, laughing too loudly with his PR manager, Gabriel. My jaw clenched involuntarily. Chuck, CEO of Shurley Enterprises, always had a plan. And his latest one? Marry me off to Gabriel so his precious company would be safe in the hands of someone he trusted.
I was nothing more than a chess piece in his game, even though I had graduated top of my class in business. He refused to see me as anything but an assistant.
“Smile, Y/N,” I muttered to myself as I forced my lips upward, brushing a few strands of hair behind my ear. This evening was already a disaster in my mind, but it wasn’t like I had a choice. I had to show up, play the role, and endure Gabriel’s slimy attempts at wooing me while pretending not to notice.
As I made my way toward the bar, scanning the room for any chance of escape, my eyes caught sight of two men across the hall. One of them was Sam Winchester, if I remembered correctly. HR and PR for their family company, Winchester Industries. I’d heard about him before, calm, intellectual, and known for being fair. He seemed like the type of person who would actually listen when you spoke.
The guy next to him was unmistakably his brother Dean Winchester, CEO, and the last person I wanted to get involved with. He was practically Gabriel’s mirror image—flirty, arrogant, and always surrounded by a swarm of women. But at least Dean looked like old money.
I tried to avoid looking at them, but for some reason, Dean’s gaze caught mine. There was something intense in his green eyes, something that made my heart skip a beat despite myself. It wasn’t like the way Gabriel’s gaze crawled over me—this was different.
There was curiosity there, maybe even recognition. I quickly turned away, shaking my head at how ridiculous I was being. The last thing I needed was to get caught up in another man’s game.
“Hey there,” a warm voice said from behind me. I turned and found myself face-to-face with Sam. I wasn’t sure how long he’d been watching me, but he gave a friendly smile.
“Hi,” I replied, straightening up. “Sam Winchester, right?”
“Yeah,” he nodded, offering his hand. “And you’re...?”
“Y/N,” I said, leaving out my last name deliberately. I was tired of being “Chuck’s daughter.” Tonight, I just wanted to be me.
Sam’s eyes softened in recognition, but he didn’t comment on my identity, which I appreciated. He seemed like the type who wouldn’t. We chatted for a few minutes, and it felt strangely easy. Maybe it was because he didn’t look at me like I was just an accessory to my father’s empire.
“So, what do you do, do you work for Chuck?” he asked, tilting his head.
My chest tightened. How did I explain that my father had me locked in a role way below my potential? “I… well, I just finished my business degree. I’m looking for something in management, but my father…” I hesitated. “Let’s just say, he has other plans for me.”
Sam frowned, clearly sensing the frustration in my voice. “I get that,” he said, his voice gentle. “Family expectations can be… stifling.”
I opened my mouth to respond, but before I could, a figure appeared at Sam’s side. Dean Winchester. Up close, he was even more intimidating than I’d expected—confident smirk, dark blue suit, and eyes that seemed to see right through you.
“Who’s your new friend, Sammy?” Dean asked, his voice low but teasing. He looked at me then, that same intensity in his gaze, and I felt the butterflies in my stomach all over again. Damn it.
“This is Y/N,” Sam introduced me, not missing a beat. "Chucks daughter."
“Y/N,” Dean repeated, a slow grin spreading across his face. “Beautiful name.”
I could feel my cheeks heating up, and I cursed myself for blushing like a schoolgirl. I didn’t want to fall into Dean Winchester’s orbit, not when I knew the type of guy he was. But there was something magnetic about him, something that made it impossible to look away.
“What brings you here, Y/N?” Dean asked, his eyes locking onto mine. “I’m... just here for the event,” I replied carefully, not wanting to reveal too much.
Dean raised an eyebrow, clearly amused by my non-answer. “Well, you certainly brighten up the place.” I rolled my eyes internally. It was such a line, and yet, coming from him, it didn’t feel quite as cheap as it should’ve.
He was testing me, seeing how I’d react. But something in his expression told me he wasn’t completely joking.
I stared at him, my heart pounding. Was this really happening? “I—” I stammered, trying to gather my thoughts. This was insane. I’d just met them, and yet, they left me speechless.
Dean smirked at my hesitation. I glanced between the two brothers, my mind racing. But as I met Dean's gaze again, that familiar flicker of something deeper passed between us.
Maybe I didn’t need to trust Dean. Maybe I just needed to trust myself.
Dean’s smirk widened, but there was a flicker of something more in his eyes—respect, maybe. Sam, meanwhile, felt clearly annoyed with his brothers flirtations.
“Y/N!” my dad’s voice rang out sharply through the crowd, sending a chill down my spine. I closed my eyes for a brief second, praying he wouldn’t ruin what little progress I had made with the Winchesters. When I turned around, Chuck was already striding over, that infuriatingly smug expression plastered across his face.
Dean’s jaw tensed the second he saw him, and I could feel the shift in the air—heavy, hostile. “Chuck,” Dean greeted curtly, his voice dropping to a low, almost threatening register. Sam looked equally uneasy, but tried to keep his calm, offering a small nod in my father’s direction.
“I see you’ve met my daughter,” Chuck said, his tone oozing with false charm.
“She’s beautiful, isn’t she?” Chuck continued, turning toward Dean, his words cold and calculated. I knew my father too well—this wasn’t a compliment, not really. It was a reminder. A reminder that I was nothing more than a pawn in his grand scheme. A means to an end. My stomach twisted, and I wanted to disappear.
Dean’s eyes flickered with something dark, though he kept his face impassive. “Yeah,” he said after a beat, his voice tight. “She is.”
There was a flicker of something in Chuck’s eyes—satisfaction, maybe—but it didn’t last long. His smirk deepened, and he turned the conversation in a direction I knew was meant to hurt.
“Speaking of beauty…” Chuck said, his voice suddenly softer, more venomous. “I’m so sorry about what happened to your sister. Charlie, right?”
I froze, my heart plummeting. The sneer in my father’s voice was unmistakable, and I could see the ripple of tension that went through Dean’s body, the way his grip on his glass tightened as if he was seconds away from shattering it in his hand.
A flash of pain crossed Dean’s eyes, but he held it together, though just barely. I could see how much he wanted to hit my dad, how much rage was boiling just beneath the surface. The mention of Charlie—Dean’s sister, who had died in a tragic accident years ago—was nothing but a low blow. A calculated jab to make Dean lose his cool in front of everyone.
“Dad—” I started, stepping forward, wanting to stop him before this got any worse.
But Sam was already moving, stepping in front of Dean, his hand resting on his brother’s shoulder. “Thank you for your condolences, Mr. Shurley,” Sam said smoothly, his voice filled with forced politeness. “We appreciate it.”
Chuck’s eyes gleamed with something like triumph, as if he’d won whatever sick game he was playing, but Sam’s calm deflection seemed to stop him from pressing further.
“Let’s go, Dean,” Sam said quietly, guiding his brother away before anything could escalate. Dean’s eyes lingered on me for a moment longer, and in that brief second, I saw the raw anger he was trying to keep at bay. He gave me a tight nod, then turned on his heel, following Sam across the room.
I stood there, frozen, my hands shaking with a mix of anger and shame. My father had just humiliated one of the most powerful men in the room, all because he couldn’t resist the opportunity to remind him of his loss. And worse, I was caught in the middle, powerless to stop it.
Chuck turned to me, a satisfied smile tugging at his lips. “Don’t bother with them, Y/N. The Winchesters are bad news,” he said dismissively, as if that justified everything.
I stared at him, my chest tightening with fury. “That was low, even for you,” I snapped, unable to hold back any longer.
Chuck’s eyes narrowed, but he didn’t seem fazed. “It’s just business,” he said with a shrug, as if my feelings—and Dean’s—meant nothing in the grand scheme of his plans.
But as I watched the Winchesters disappear into the crowd, I knew one thing for certain: I couldn’t keep playing my father’s game. Not anymore. I had to find my own way—away from his control, and away from his cruel manipulations.

Soooooooooooo I'm afraid your friend in doll collecting may have gone a tiny bit off the rails today. IN MY DEFENSE--I just got a refund from Aliexpress for an order that failed to arrive within their 'Delivery in 30 days or it's free!' window. So technically the money had already been spent. I just...stretched it a bit further ;p
The cloth doll in the middle is from HarperIman, another Black women-owned toy company. Their main business focuses on made-to-order, customizable, handmade linen dolls in the 18"-20" range, but they also have a line of 'petite' 14" handmade dolls that can be found at Target, FAO, and a few other retailers. The one I purchased, Sadie, is of the latter variety. I've seen this brand around for awhile, but this is the first time I've felt compelled to add one of their creations to my collection. I have a soft spot (LOL) for cloth dolls, but I'm also rather particular about them, so I don't have very many. This one spoke to me, she just feels like a good fit. I'm already having thoughts about embroidering flowers on her overalls ^_^
(Screenshots of some of the more bespoke dolls available directly from the HarperIman site)
I swear I made a genuine effort to choose between the two HBC girls and only get one for now...but I just couldn't. I made the mistake of browsing their Instagram, and the hair on these dolls is SO GOOD I am powerless to resist. I cannot wait to start designing outfits and accessories for them!
*sigh* so yes...I probably should have saved that money, but I'm also not exactly sorry it's gone...BUT REALLY THIS TIME, no more dolls. For a good minute. Between these latest shenanigans and Isabela and Moana and the factory Blythe from AE that hypothetically is still on the way, albeit extremely late...I have six dolls in transit. I need to slow the hell down and focus on making clothes for all these girls. I will make an honest effort to not go on ebay or Mercari or anywhere else I might be tempted by a deal at least until the end of the month. After that we'll see XD

How to Be a Girly Girl: 7 Tips of How to Be More Girly
So, how to be awesome? Well, opinions are divided. There are some that think being feminine is old-fashioned, while others see it as an advantage. Honestly, it’s all about your personal preference. If you are drawn to girly things like dresses and makeup and flowery accessories, then embrace it. If you’re more laid back and like to dress like a tomboy, then go for it. Don’t force yourself to change for anyone else. Accept yourself the way you are.
However, if you are willing to break outside of your comfort zone and embrace change, we can offer you some advice on how to be more of a girly girl. However, you don’t need to be a delicate feminine flower to be happy. You have the power within you. You simply need to be willing to embrace it.
How to Be a Girly Girl: Key Tips
If you wonder how to be happy, it starts with loving yourself. Yes, love yourself the way you are. And never, ever change yourself for anyone else. Always remain true to your heart.
And being feminine doesn’t mean you have to wear frilly dresses, sport a strand of pearls, sit at home baking and knitting all day and wear high heels 24/7. You can find jeans, skirts, slacks and blouses that are feminine, as well. And cute flats and platform shoes can be just as cute as heels. Not everyone can walk around all day in 6-inch stilettos. So, take this article with a grain of salt and pick what works best for you. It’s also all in the way you carry yourself and in your mindset, as well. Hopefully, some of our tips on how to be a girly girl can get you started!
Keep Up with Current Fashion
You don’t have to wear designer clothes or attend Fashion Week, but it can’t hurt to keep up with current trends. Check out fashion magazines and fashion bloggers online to stay informed about the latest trends. You don’t have to spend a lot of money either. You can always pick clothes on sale. It can’t hurt to add a pretty dress or skirt to update your wardrobe. You don’t need to dress like a runway model, but it would be nice to up your game and dress a bit more feminine.
ACCESSORIZE
Girly girls love their accessories. A cute pair of heels, a hat, a purse, some lovely earrings, a bracelet or necklace. A fun feminine accessory can really spice up an outfit and will make you feel more feminine. Treat yourself to that nice purse that you’ve been eyeing for weeks. Throw on some hoop earrings and pull those kitten heels out of your closet. A little bit can go a long way when it comes to accessories!
Experiment with Makeup & Hairstyles
One of the best things about being a woman is the ability to experiment with different hairstyles and makeup. There is a huge variety out there today, from funky colors to daring haircuts to fancy makeup styles. There are plenty of tutorial videos available online for both hair and makeup ideas, so go to town and have a blast playing around with different looks. Embrace the playful young girl inside you and try that bold new look!
Don’t Forget the Fragrance
Traditionally, there are fragrances that are considered masculine or feminine. Specifically, musky scents are more masculine, while floral and fruity scents are more feminine. Stay away from heavy musky scents and become a girly girl. And don’t wear anything that’s too overpowering. Spritz just a little behind your ears or on your wrists.
THINK LIKE A GIRL
If you really have trouble getting into the right mindset, read some “chick lit,” or watch some “chick flick.” Read some magazines that are issued for women. Also, don’t be afraid to express your emotions. That is, don’t be overly sappy, but don’t be cold either. Girly ladies are a bit more open with their feelings. Smile and laugh more and bat your eyelashes sometimes. Toss your hair over your shoulder and cock your head to one side. A little innocent flirting can go a long way! If you act the part, it will soon be your second nature!
BE CONFIDENT
Be confident, but not cocky. Girly ladies are also easy going. Have some faith in yourself and carry yourself with some attitude. Embrace the girly lady inside you and let her shine through.
REMEMBER YOUR MANNERS
Always be polite and courteous. Say please and thank you and make eye contact. Let a man hold open a door for you or hold your bags. Just because you are a strong independent woman doesn’t mean chivalry is dead!

Hii! I was scrolling through your page a bit---I empathize with your long list of fandoms---and I saw that you did match ups, so if that's still an option, I would love one for The Last of Us 2, Arcane, and Percy Jackson (I didn't really see a limit to the match ups so I hope that three is okay!)
My pronouns are she/they, and I'm a lesbian, so women are what I'd like to be matched with. I'm 5' 1", with a midsize build, and dark blue curly hair that goes down to my upper back. I'm fair skinned, with grey-blue eyes, and my style can be both masculine and feminine; it depends on the day. I LOVE to accessorize (my jewellry box is crying for help T_T).
I tend to be a bit more introverted, if only because I like sticking to people I know well and enjoying my solitude, but I don't find it hard to meet new people. From an outside perspective, I'm pretty outgoing. One thing I do have trouble with is filtering myself around people that don't know me well. Sometimes I can come across as intense or weird, and it's mostly because I tend to say whatever is on my mind. It used to make me insecure, but now I'm more confident then I've ever been! Last time I took the MBTI test, I got ENFJ, but every time before that, I got INFP.
I'm a very artistic and creative person. I'm really into reading and writing, and if I leave my silly little movies behind to go outside, there's a high chance I'm thrifting. I like to sing, so it's no surprise I like music, and the music I usually listen to is a lot of indie, pop, and rock.
When it comes to partners, I'm not usually picky, but I do like someone who doesn't really fit the cookie-cutter mold. Someone who's a little nerdy, or a little weird/unconventional (I JUST NEED SOMEONE TO MATCH MY FREAK!)
Thanks so much!!!
Your TLOU2 match is…
Dina
Dina would be totally into your unfiltered nature
She’d find your quirks adorable and would encourage you to express every oddball thought, even if it sometimes catches her off guard
Dina would happily go thrifting with you, always curious to see what quirky treasures you find
She’d make it a bit of a scavenger hunt, turning it into a fun day out and possibly a competition
She’d love that you sing, joining in with you whenever a favorite song comes on
Her casual humming would turn into full-on duets with you, both of you belting out songs in the safest corners of the apocalypse
Dina would adore your accessory game and might even swipe a few pieces, considering it her own way of keeping a part of you close when she’s out on runs
She’d share your taste in music, bringing whatever records she can find from old abandoned houses back to you, and you’d both geek out over the rare finds together
Dina would support your writing and artistic side, always asking to hear the latest thing you’re working on. She’d encourage you to keep up your hobbies as a way of holding onto yourself in a difficult world
With your confidence and intensity, Dina would sometimes jokingly call you “wild,” saying it like a badge of honor
Her playful teasing would be filled with admiration
She’d respect your introverted side and would enjoy being part of your “inner circle.” Dina wouldn’t need tons of friends, as long as she has you
When you’re least expecting it, Dina would sneak up and pull you into a dance
Whether in a safe moment or while cleaning up camp, she’d make sure your life together has moments of spontaneity
Given how confident and quirky you are, she’d find herself feeling oddly protective, constantly making sure you’re safe while secretly in awe of your strength
Your Arcane match is…
Vi
Vi would immediately be drawn to your unfiltered honesty
She’d love that you say whatever is on your mind and wouldn’t be put off by your intensity—she’d find it exhilarating
Vi would love that your style switches from feminine to masculine
She’d always be curious to see how you’d dress each day, and she’d be right there hyping you up
Being fiercely loyal, Vi would totally appreciate your creative, unique vibe
She’d see you as her “ride or die” and would fiercely protect you, even if you didn’t always need it
Vi would get your introverted side, giving you space when you need it but always being around when you want someone close by
She’d be happy just chilling with you in silence
Vi would tease you about your love of singing, but she’d secretly melt whenever you sang for her, considering it one of her favorite things about you
She’d think you’re the best kind of weird and would brag about having a partner who’s just as unconventional as she is.
Vi would have an endearing habit of grabbing your hand or putting an arm around your shoulders
She’d love physical connection but would be subtle about it when others are around
Vi would absolutely borrow your accessories
She’d feel connected to you when she’s wearing one of your rings or necklaces and might even make you a piece to add to your collection
Vi would be highly protective and always keep an eye out for you, admiring your quirks but wanting to make sure you’re safe, especially in the dangerous world of Zaun
Your PJO match is…
Thalia Grace
Thalia would love your intensity and confidence, considering it a perfect match for her own no-nonsense attitude
She’d feel instantly at home with your boldness
She’d totally get your love for indie, rock, and pop, especially with her love for punk
You’d both introduce each other to different bands, spending countless hours listening to each other’s playlists
Thalia would absolutely enjoy your sarcastic and quirky personality, especially your unfiltered comments
The two of you would have a hilarious back-and-forth, often confusing those around you
Thalia would be the first to volunteer for thrifting trips
She’d be fascinated by your style, admiring how you switch between masculine and feminine looks with ease
Thalia would understand your need for solitude and wouldn’t push you to socialize if you weren’t up for it
She’d be happy to enjoy quiet moments with you, even if it’s just sitting side-by-side
Thalia would love to take you outside when you’re willing to leave the movies behind
She’d insist on camping or hiking, jokingly calling it “real-world training for any monsters you might run into
Thalia would low-key steal your accessories, loving the way each piece connects her to you
She’d probably even find some cool items to add to your collection
She’d be totally supportive of your love for reading and writing, occasionally poking fun at how “bookish” you are but secretly admiring it
Thalia would respect your introverted side, understanding the value of comfortable silence
She’d never pressure you to be “on” all the time and would enjoy just existing together
Thalia would admire your confidence and unapologetic vibe, feeling incredibly proud to be with someone as true to themselves as you are

〉A round of twister . . .
Before I write the slightest word; I hope you're having a wonderful day and also, I wanted to congratulate you on the latest achievement you've had regarding your followers ( including me among them * ) you deserve this achievement and much more ~ !
⸻ And among all, also, I would look for a request to the tornado round of your sleepover but, at the same time, clarify that I would understand if you didn't find yourself with the time at your disposal or inspiration to give an answer⸻.
My fandom of choice would be " The Hunger Games. "
I'm a young woman in my early twenties, a college student and finding myself in what would be a psychology major. My height would be around 1,70cm, my body would be small, slim and with curves, especially in the hips area; " typical " of Latin American women and being one of my insecurities about my physical appearance. My hair is long and brown with some natural reddish highlights as well as the colour of my eyes. I'm heterosexual; although I tend to take certain distances with respect to my opposite gender, tending to be extremely reserved in all areas of my life but, above all, when it comes to forming a sentimental bond. Practically, I never formalised a relationship until less than a month ago. My sun sign would be Scorpio and ironically; with a peculiar combination of a moon in Gemini and also the rising in the same sign. Chaotic, isn't it ... ? My personality enneatype is INFJ. And my Hogwarts house is Slytherin. I would consider myself a person focused on my responsibilities, making it my only goal in life. I wouldn't consider myself someone who brought with them the slightest trace of ambition. I would just be realistic about what day-to-day life would be like and the ripple effect it would have on our lives. In my free time I usually escape to nature, in the silence, next to a book to read in complete harmony. Or I play the guitar, sing the odd song and write poetry. In absolute solitude, of course. I am not afraid of it. It's my company. I tend to be someone who doesn't usually talk or at least not to anyone, from what I've been told. As I said, I keep to myself. I also tend to take care of the physical activity I do, getting up every morning to do pilates and going for long walks in the afternoons. Although I wouldn't even be totally focused on my physical appearance, when⸻ literally, I tend to wear any outfit that is black most days and when it comes to events, I opt for dresses that show more colours such as emerald green. Of course, I always wear the odd accessory like gold earrings. But that's about it. I prefer the natural, I prefer the simple and the basic. Without falling into the ordinary, of course. I just don't like to draw attention to myself. Finally, " my language of love " are usually words that I would write in my poetry or any event that would lead to a conversation with words of affirmation of the love I would feel for the person and the simple physical contact that I don't usually allow from anyone around me.
That would be all. From the bottom of my heart, I hope and wish that you are having a wonderful day, as I said, regardless of when you are reading these words. Thank you very much in advance. ♡
⸻ And also, apologies for my level of English in terms of my writing; well, it's a fact, it would not be my first language⸻.
𝐉𝐎𝐈𝐍 𝐌𝐘 𝟏𝐊 𝐒𝐋𝐄𝐄𝐏𝐎𝐕𝐄𝐑
i ship you with...
coriolanus snow !!!
i think it was when you mentioned enjoying solitude that this sort of clicked for me
we know coryo is a busy guy, so it helps that you dont mind being alone
i think he would be so in awe of you playing guitar, just kind of sitting there, watching as you pluck at the strings without feeling like he needs to say anything.
i feel like he would try and get you to wear stuff that draws more attention to yourself, maybe a pop of red in your outfits.
i think you two can sit in comfortable silence a lot of the time, not needing to say anything and just enjoying each others presence.
working on totally different things but just the knowledge that he's there is comforting.

Clothes and Home Dec And the Gamine Look
This picture comes from a page headed "Decorate to your way of living" in the ring-bound Better Homes & Gardens Decorating Book originally published in 1953, again in 1961. Today, I guess we would use the word lifestyle. 5 different sketches appear with 5 different women. Colonial style goes with a woman in a shirt-waist dress who likes things cozy. An ornate chair goes with a woman with an updo and a black dress who likes what is elegant. The sentimental woman with frills on her shirt has a ruffle on her chair. And a formal home and a wingback chair has a woman primping in a hand mirror with pearls on her neck.
And smack in the middle we find this gamine type, the only one in slacks, the only one with cropped hair, in a striped, boatneck top like a French sailor. Gamine is the French way of saying tomboy, by taking a name for a boy and adding the "e" to make it female. She might remind you of Audrey Hepburn in the movie Funny Face which came out in 1957 although the haircut is more like Hepburn in Roman Holiday from 1953.
It was a young look at the time and the sketch described someone who preferred "easy-care materials for informal living." And she preferred a mid-century modern chair. The book offers up the same kind of advice on colors, on harmony, on playing up good points and distracting the eye from bad points for home decoration as the Dress Doctors taught for clothing. For example, "Reserve bright colors for accents of accessories" refers to a bright red paint on the lower half of a wall, when it could just as easily refer to a hat and bag in red.
It sent the message that fashion styles cover both clothing and home decorating. The woman who wanted to modern casual chair would also be the woman who wanted the latest in casual clothing.

Pink Power Rankings, Pt. 3
You’ve (hopefully for me) waited, now you have it. The next chapter of Pink Power Rankings! I had a good time doing Parts One and Two and have been wanting to do Part Three for some time and I needed to look for more pop culture sources involving the color pink. Here I look at moments in TV and Film featuring women and girls (and other feminine presenting folks) moments in the color pink and I analyze if this is a case of pink representing feminine power or vulnerability under a Patriarchal structure.
Spoilers Ahead
Pictured above are the many versions of the Pink Ranger from the Power Rangers series.
Mei Lee
We are gonna take a trip into Chinese Culture, early 2000s fashion, adolescence, and the push and pull between family traditions and honoring your own spirit. Buckle up.
First Red: Mei Mei lives in a multitude of cultures. First she is a Millennial who likes boy bands and soda pop who tries to be a straight A student and proper daughter to her (likely) Boomer elders, she is a Chinese Canadian girl who wakes up find herself as a giant fluffy red panda. Chinese Flag, Chinese Culture, Canadian flag, red pandas, anger, passion, menstruation: what do they have in common? The color red. In Chinese culture, red (along with the complementary yet opposite on the color spectrum, green) is a lucky color; it’s a festive color, the color of beauty, good fortune, vitality, and happiness. Mei is an adorable girl who has a bright future ahead of her and she is a energetic, go-getter who hardly lets things get her down. According to Ericksen Translations, Red in the Western World evokes excitement, love, danger, passion, and anger, Indian cultures consider red to be the color of purity, Latin America can pair red with white for religious connotations, and red is infamously used by totalitarian regimes. That last part is important because Mei Mei is butting heads with her green (another lucky color in Chinese culture, unless you are a man wearing a hat) and blue (the color of sadness and motherhood in Western culture) clad mother, who lacked the community of good friends with different perspectives (or any) and was so bound up in duty and guilt/intergenerational trauma to see that her daughter needs to join in the pursuits of her age group.
This even shows up in how Mei was dressed (and as a testament to the film, showcases the changing seasons in Toronto, coinciding with the themes regarding puberty): she starts the film wearing a red cardigan sweater, a flared skirt, leggings, sneakers, still a hip little girl but cardigans (along with collared shirts) evoke “Classic Fashion”, they evoke an image of British aristocratic women, 1950s housewives and secretaries, D.C. Office Ladies, they transcend time and are safe. TL;DR, they are “Good Girl” clothes, the kind of clothes that don’t make waves (sartorially nor with the status quo).
On the other hand, polo shirts (especially if they were layered), were the it shirt for the 2000s. After Clueless hit theaters in 1995, there was a resurgence in preppy styles, especially for young women, with palettes becoming brighter and brighter. And when we see Mei Mei at the end of the film: we find her in a light pink polo shirt with the latest in Y2K accessories (spot the hair clips, earrings, and choker), showing that she has embraced her own voice and panda and living openly. It’s a good thing her outlook is so bright, she is gonna be one of many Millennials likely affected by the 2008 Recession and the now current COVID-19 pandemic.
Power Ranking: A 10, 24/7, 365!
Monica Lewinsky
Here we will focus on dissecting the serialized interpretation of Monica Lewinsky (as played by exquisite Beanie Feldstein) rather than the real person I simp over; Monica, in real life and in the series based on events in her 20s, is an utterly femme-y woman but pink is not a power color within the series. We see her wear it in loungewear, chatting on the phone with her treacherous friend (the never can be too maligned) Linda Tripp (Sarah Paulson in one of her problematic roles) or in a sleepover scene or as a robe or in a romantic nightie and here, in a scene where she has a tumultuous argument with President Bill Clinton (Clive Owen looking a tad svelte) where they finally break up. One can surmise that Pink is the color of vulnerability for Monica, as it makes her small and easy to take advantage of by an older colleague and lover.
In short: it’s the color of both femininity and vulnerability and we see Linda and First Lady Hillary Clinton wear it themselves in subdued and pastel versions, nodding to their age. But onto Monica and how she could (or could not) fall into the same subued pastels as these women who are contemporaries of her own more youthful and glamorous mother (played by the uber-talented Mira Sorvino); pink for Monica symbolizes her femininity (which she was lampooned for as a bimbo and valley girl), her warmth (a quality that people are surprised to learn she has once meeting her), her beauty (her blessing and a curse, as she diets like crazy), her sexuality (despite the Sexual Revolution, society is still slut-shamey and hasn’t reformed enough for abuse of power to become a thing of the past), and her romantic nature and sadly due to Bill being the ultimate fuck-boy of the late-20th Century, is likely to become the embittered nag (Hillary) or hag (Linda) that is vilified in the media, or rather her ultimate fate as punching bag and sex object.
Monica was in soft pastels for her loungewear outfits but this sweater is a bold, saturated coral pink that matches her emotions. After screaming at secretary Betty Currie (the one and only Rae Dawn Chong), which bad move Monica, she gets Bill to lament how horrible she is (really the whole thing is his damn fault), projecting and using Betty’s history of being a Black woman under Jim Crow to manipulate Monica “a fucking 24 year old” and how he thought she was “a good girl” which earns him a hearty “fuck you!” from her and they decide to break off, her even turning down his pleas to resume after his term is over, but he resolves to help her get the job she wants and she quits the Pentagon for the greener pastures (or rather the lipstick) of Revlon where her intelligence and beauty savvy will be put to work.
Oh girly, you aren’t out of the woods. On a simp-y note: I want to note what costume designer Meredith Markworth-Pollack described Monica as an “innately a sexual woman, she’s flirtatious, she’s sensual, she’s curvy, she’s magnetic”...basically Monica has the same energy as Joan Holloway of Mad Men, another mistreated and sexualized woman who was a victim of her time and place and underestimated as a person and intellect due to her gender. But both women, as Tom and Lorenzo once said: “She took charge of her life and owned her mistakes” when comparing Joan to Liz Taylor (a vivacious dark-haired bombshell who was noted for her sensuality and mocked for her weight) and became producer. *chef’s kiss*
Power Ranking: 5.5 (like a phoenix she will rise out of the ashes).
Eleanor Wong
I love this look, it’s giving Grace Kelly meets Betty Draper Francis’s hidden Italian haute couture side. The chic updo, the jewelry, bejeweled bodice, cinched waistline, full pink tulle skirt, and the long gloves all scream “Mid Century Movie Glamour”. Eleanor showed up with her friend Devi to the Winter Dance stag to support friend Fabiola and her girlfriend Eve’s bid for Winter Dance Royalty. The girls also lament their love life, having broken up with boys before. But Luck be a Lady tonight, for these two ladies in fabulous formal wear. Devi gets to go with her older and popular boyfriend Paxton while Eleanor gets the attentions of Paxton’s dopey friend (they are so cute a couple) and gets to tell Ben, Devi’s entitled ex who always called Devi “David” and competed with her and called the girls the racist, misogynistic moniker of “Unfuckable Nerds” or UN (as Harriyanna Hook once said: “No boy alive who called me ugly was ever hotter than me”). Eleanor gets to tell a heartbroken Ben that Devi did care for him but she and Fabi told him he wasn’t good enough and gave a dismissive apology granted he ends up with Devi but Fab and Eleanor show that if wants her, he gonna have to prove himself.
Good. For. Her.
Power Ranking: 11.
Joyce Prigger
She emerges in a dusty rose suit and a floral blouse with grey-blue and orchid shades, youthful and ready to make an impression. Perhaps while wearing the colors of the gender binary and of power as defined by a patriarchal culture built on hierarchy. Sadly, this ambitious revolutionary has to kiss corporate ass and is failing. “The Matriarchy Awakens” is a clever tagline, but not a magazine title but there is a need for a matriarchy in an era when men can feel free to comment on other women’s bodies and their presentation with little to no consequence, where women are encouraged to diet but them exercising reproductive choice is taboo, where women are gaslighted into being silent about their concerns or wants. So young, Seven Sisters educated Joyce Prigger goes to a magazine convention to shop around her ideas for a feminist magazine that is sadly drier than the Southern California climate after being harassed by construction workers and to tone-deaf corporate heads who still like the idea of women building their whole lives and self-esteem around them.
So another man suggests he can sell her magazine with a crispier, tender title for his pornography publishing business: Minx. She is reluctant (she hasn’t made it to sex positive feminism yet) and walks off the convention getting harassed by the same construction worker and telling him to fuck off.
It’s a start, but articles about marital rape are gonna need pics of hot men in the buff.
Power Ranking: 6.
Kamala Nandiawanda
About four decades later and we meet another young woman who is coping with tone-deaf males in a profession she has ambition for, with the added weight of being a non-European woman in a White Supremacist Patriarchy. Kamala does what her aunt (and what nameless women in male-dominated circles) have done, keep her head down and smile while doing work that she is not getting credit for. And submit to their little games where they make her their video game damsel in distress and have her dress up according to their desires.
At some point she goes to her teenage cousin for help and her teenage cousin Devi (a known hothead) tells her she doesn’t has to take anyone’s shit and that men like her colleagues like seeing Asian Women as submissive and easy to abuse. Kamala eventually threatens her mentor with a lawsuit and going to feminist minded groups and reporting him.
Power Ranking: 5 (this was one of many straws that broke the camel’s back).
Julia Child
In the HBO Max unofficial sequel to Julie and Julia, a film that partially focused on the beginning of Julia Child’s career as the co-author of a popular cookbook that demystified French cooking to ordinary Americans, we meet Julia Child enjoying her new life in Massachusetts and on the heels of the popularity of Mastering the Art of French Cooking as she works on the 2nd addition. As a promotion on public television, she spontaneously fixes an omelette on air in her folksy and comedic style and is offered the opportunity to host her own cooking show. Not a TV owner (much less viewer), she is somewhat skeptical but becomes increasingly enthused and considers hosting her own show despite the skepticism of a few.
Power Ranking: 10, bon appetit!
Robin Buckley
Here is Robin Buckley: in frills she is not accustomed to nor her preference (foisted on her by the more miniscule Nancy Wheeler) with the highly femme outfits constricting her, especially around her neck. Nancy gives the awkward (honestly likely neurodivergent) Robin a script to follow as they try to glean information from a mental institution about one of their patients. Robin, when the interview goes nowhere, Robin goes off script and talks about how no one takes girls seriously and gets them access to their patient.
Power Ranking: 9.5
Suga Mama
“When I’m an old woman, I shall wear purple, with a red hat that doesn’t quite go...”, welp Suga Mama doesn’t need to dress so garish and formal to command attention as a woman over 50. Ever since The Proud Family premiered in 2001, Suga Mama was a hip granny and a force to be reckoned, no one not even her son, held her back.
Power Ranking: 10
Heather Chandler
ModernGurlz sussed out Heather so well, so I like to look at the film a bit from her point of view from when she was alive.
Picture it: Ohio 1989. You are the Queen Bee of your high school with three loyal underlings who do your bidding, even humiliating the school fat girl. You act like you are better than everyone else but you deep down feel insecure, nothing impresses you, the boys are either bores or objectify you, so you hit a college party hoping to find a mature option. Big Mistake, as he coerces you into oral sex while you are really wanting to go back to the party. You then stare at your reflection in self-hatred and then the next morning you wake up in a hangover and your friend, who you feel screwed you over for fighting back with her own college hook-up is with the school weirdo. You drink their hangover cure and it’s disgusting and what?
You have entered the afterlife and it’s so boring.
Power Ranking: 0
Louise Belcher
The #girlboss of the Belcher Clan, her late grandmother’s granddaughter, the one who solved a murder and saved everyone from an explosion involving flammable teddy bears in a slow-moving ride. Owner of her grandmother’s pink cap turned bunny hat.
Power Ranking: 10
Lisa Simpson
The long-running The Simpsons is a subversive take on classic family sitcom tropes and American Traditionalist “family values”, where the straight A and principled Lisa Simpson is often clad in a light pink and puff-sleeved dress with a classic party dress design. American Christian Tradition and Values writ in fabric: but Lisa subverts these values by staying true to her moral compass and often that means pissing off the social order.
In this case it’s clearing her brother Bart’s name after he was framed as a thief during collection, the truth is he fell for the sweet looking and pretty preacher’s daughter’s manipulations who tells him no one will believe him because Springfield is classist and elitist like many small-towns (there I said it). Lisa takes the pulpit to urge people to confess their sins, no takers from Jessica Lovejoy so Lisa points her out and the town sees that Jessica kept several weeks of collection money under her bed, a cry for help to her parents who care more about looking right than being good parents.
Power Ranking: 11

Making Evening Dresses Your Everyday Go-To: A Style Guide
Let's face it - those gorgeous evening dresses shouldn't just collect dust in your closet waiting for special occasions. Fashion experts agree that versatility is key when building a functional wardrobe. As seen in the latest collections and fashion trends, evening wear has evolved beyond formal occasions. For more inspiration and expert styling tips, check out this stunning versatile and stylish Women Dresses that showcases formal wear options. With some creative styling tricks, you can rock these fancy pieces any day of the week. Trust me, I've turned plenty of "special occasion only" dresses into my favorite daily outfits.
Throw on a Casual Layer
Nothing brings an evening dress down to earth faster than tossing on a well-worn denim jacket or that leather moto you love. When the weather turns chilly, wrap yourself in a chunky knit cardigan - instant cozy chic! A classic blazer works wonders too, especially in neutral shades that go with everything. Don't be afraid to experiment with unexpected layers like a cropped hoodie or an oversized shirt tied at the waist - sometimes the most surprising combinations create the most stunning looks.
Kick Off Those Heels
The fastest way to make any dress feel casual? Swap out those sky-high heels for something comfy. I'm talking about your favorite white sneakers, those ankle boots you can't live without, or simple ballet flats. Sneakers especially give even the fanciest dress an effortlessly cool vibe. Platform sneakers are having a moment right now and can add just the right amount of height while keeping things casual.
Keep the Accessories Simple
Forget the statement necklaces and chandelier earrings. Think practical with a crossbody bag or cute backpack, and stick to minimal jewelry - maybe some dainty studs or a simple chain necklace. The key is keeping things unfussy. Consider adding a silk scarf as a headband or tied around your bag handle for a touch of sophistication that doesn't feel overdressed.
Layer Like a Pro
Try slipping a basic white tee or fitted turtleneck under that slinky slip dress. It's a street-style favorite for good reason - instantly makes any dress feel more laid-back and works great between seasons. For cooler days, try layering a thin sweater over your dress and adding a wide belt to create definition at the waist. This trick essentially transforms your dress into a chic skirt!
Go Neutral
Black, beige, navy, and gray dresses are your best friends for everyday wear. They're just easier to style casually and mix with your regular wardrobe staples. These timeless shades also make it easier to experiment with colorful accessories without worrying about clashing.
Belt It Out
Never underestimate the power of a good belt! A casual leather one can totally transform a dress's vibe. Play around with different styles - sometimes a fabric belt or cool vintage find is exactly what an outfit needs. The latest trend of chain belts can add an unexpected edge to a flowing evening dress.
Get Creative with Layering
Here's a fun trick: wear your dress over jeans or leggings. Sounds wild, but it works! Those high-slit dresses make amazing tunics. Just experiment until you find what feels right. Try playing with proportions by knotting the hem of a longer dress to create an asymmetrical look.
Keep Hair and Makeup Low-Key
Skip the elaborate updo and full face of makeup. Loose waves, a messy bun, or simple ponytail paired with natural-looking makeup keeps things casual and fresh. A tinted moisturizer, mascara, and tinted lip balm are often all you need for that perfect "everyday glam" look.
Mix Up Your Textures
Love that silky dress? Throw on a cotton jacket or cozy wool sweater. The contrast in fabrics makes everything feel more relaxed and daytime-appropriate. Don't shy away from mixing unexpected textures like sequins with denim or lace with leather - these combinations can create incredibly interesting and modern looks.
Embrace Simplicity
Want to know a styling secret that never fails? Stick to a single color family. Picture this: a deep navy dress paired with matching ballet flats and a structured bag in the same shade. It's effortless yet sophisticated, and the unified color palette makes you look taller and more put-together.
Weather-Wise Styling
Each season brings new opportunities to reinvent your evening wear. When winter rolls around, get creative with layers - a sleek bodysuit underneath your favorite sleeveless dress, paired with opaque tights and chunky boots creates a look that's both warm and fashionable. Come summer, that same dress transforms completely with strappy sandals and a woven basket bag, perfect for everything from weekend brunches to farmers' market runs.
The real magic happens when you stop thinking of evening dresses as special occasion pieces. They're just waiting to become the hardest-working items in your closet. Once you start playing around with different combinations, you'll wonder why you ever limited these versatile pieces to formal events.
Here's the truth about fashion: your confidence shines brightest when you break free from old-school style rules. That sparkly dress you've been saving? Wear it to run errands - you might inspire someone else to be bold too. After all, great style isn't about following rules - it's about writing your own.

What Are Good Dresses to Wear to a Wedding?
Weddings are one of the most joyful and fashionable occasions, where love, celebration, and style come together. Whether you're a guest, part of the bridal party, or the bride or groom themselves, finding the perfect outfit is key to feeling confident and looking your best. In this guide, we’ll explore trendy and timeless dress options to help you shine on this special day.
Understanding the Dress Code
Before selecting the perfect dress, it's essential to understand the wedding dress code. Many weddings specify attire like black-tie, formal, semi-formal, or casual. Always check the invitation or consult the hosts to make sure your outfit aligns with the event's dress code, ensuring you're stylish and appropriate for the occasion.
Elegant Evening Gowns
For formal or black-tie weddings, a stunning evening gown is a classic choice. Look for dresses crafted from luxurious fabrics like silk, satin, or chiffon, with flattering silhouettes that suit your body type. Trending styles include off-shoulder designs, dramatic sleeves, and statement backs. Designers like Oscar de la Renta, Marchesa, and Carolina Herrera offer breathtaking gowns that radiate sophistication, glamour, and elegance, perfect for those looking to make a grand entrance.
Chic Cocktail Dresses
Cocktail dresses are a great fit for semi-formal weddings or those with a cocktail attire dress code. Opt for knee-length or tea-length dresses in vibrant hues or trendy prints. This season’s top trends include bold metallics, embellished details, and asymmetrical cuts. Brands like Kate Spade, Ted Baker, and Diane von Furstenberg are renowned for their playful yet elegant cocktail dresses, offering a mix of modern design and classic appeal. Add a statement clutch and stiletto heels to complete the look.
Romantic Floral Dresses
For outdoor, garden, or spring weddings, a floral dress is the ultimate romantic choice. Look for flowing maxi dresses or chic midi-length styles with delicate floral prints. This season, botanical patterns in pastel tones or vibrant colors are making waves. Brands like Zimmermann, Reformation, and Free People offer an array of floral designs that embody romance and femininity, perfect for a whimsical wedding setting.
Stylish Jumpsuits
For those seeking a modern and fashion-forward alternative to dresses, stylish jumpsuits are the way to go. Sleek and tailored, jumpsuits in luxe fabrics like velvet, crepe, or satin make a statement at both formal and semi-formal weddings. The latest trends include wide-legged jumpsuits, halter necklines, and elegant drapery. Designers like Ralph Lauren, Elie Saab, and Galvan offer sophisticated jumpsuits that are as chic as they are comfortable, providing a fresh take on wedding attire.
Timeless Suiting for Men
For men attending weddings, a tailored suit never goes out of style. Choose a classic suit in versatile colors like navy, charcoal, or black for a sophisticated look. Trending styles this season include slimmer fits, double-breasted designs, and velvet blazers for a touch of opulence. Shop Luxury brands like Hugo Boss, Tom Ford, and Brooks Brothers are known for their exceptional craftsmanship and premium fabrics, ensuring men are dressed to impress from ceremony to reception.
Accessories That Elevate Your Look
No wedding outfit is complete without the right accessories. For women, add some sparkle with statement jewelry, such as chandelier earrings or layered necklaces. A stylish clutch bag and elegant heels will complete your ensemble, while trendy hair accessories like embellished headbands or chic pins can add a personal touch. For men, consider adding a polished pocket square, cufflinks, or a leather belt to elevate your suit. With the right accessories, you can take your outfit to the next level and make a lasting impression.
With these trendy dress options and accessories, you’ll be sure to make a fashionable statement at any wedding, whether you're dancing the night away or enjoying a serene garden ceremony.
