Lately I've been reading a bunch of romance and it's always with alpha males. I'd really love to read more romance like The Rakess with an alpha heroine where the woman is the dominant personality and the man is not. BDSM is fine so long as it is actually romance and not just erotica. I want to see women in heterosexual relationships being awesome and dominant and the dude totally being okay with it. (Like Kamala Harris and her husband Doug Emhoff.)
Please help! It feels like romance tends to forget that het/bi/pan women with alpha personalities need love too.
Alpha females are definitely not the norm in most romance, you’re quite correct. We’re glad you already discovered The Rakess by Scarlett Peckham; that author has written a couple of submissive males in her BDSM historicals. Also weirdly enough, some old school historical romance totally gets into this trope - probably because Elizabeth Bennet/Mr. Darcy is the original Alpha Heroine/Beta Hero (unless you count the Taming of the Shrew which depending on the production and interpretation is viable.) And as you likely already know, OP, having an alpha personality doesn’t mean that the woman has to be unfeminine. It just means that in the relationship the woman is the dominant partner.
We’ve scoured around and found a few more you might enjoy!
Historical
The Duke Who Didn’t by Courtney Milan - M/F, Victorian Romance, Asian Romance (heroine is Chinese, hero is half-Chinese), alpha female, Open Door

Men Are Frogs by Saranna DeWylde - M/F - Contemporary Fantasy - Fairy Tale Retelling, Interracial Romance, Heroine is a Wedding Planner, Book 2 of a 3 book and counting series.
----
Science Fiction
Finders Keepers by Linnea Sinclair - M/F, SciFi Romance, Smuggler Heroine, Open Door - you cannot go wrong with Linnea Sinclair. Her entire catalogue fits your ask. Try Gabriel’s Ghost or Games of Command or An Accidental Goddess, too.
Grimspace by Ann Aguirre - M/F, SciFi Romance, Pilot Heroine, Closed Door - book 1/6 in the Sirantha Jax series. Each book has an HFN and book 6 Jax and March get their HEA.
----
YA Romance
You’ll actually find quite a lot of kickass heroines (and the heroes who adore them) in the YA genre. From Katniss in The Hunger Games to Celaena in Throne of Glass and Jaenelle in the Black Jewels trilogy. However, these are not always romance, in that they don’t always fulfill the promise of the HEA or even HFN (Jaenelle doesn’t get either, in particular). It’s very common for the HEA not to come until the end of the series, so bear that in mind when looking at the recommendations below (and any other YA series).
Graceling by Kristin Cashore - M/F. YA Fantasy Romance, Unknown Heat Level, Assassin Heroine - book 1 in a series of 4.
Grave Mercy by Robin LaFevers - M/F, YA Fantasy Romance, Open Door, Assassin Heroine - book 1 of a trilogy.
Cinder by Marissa Meyer - M/F, YA Science Fiction Romance, Open Door, Cyborg Heroine. Book 1 of a series of 4; each featuring a different strong heroine.
Hunted by the Sky by Tanaz Bhathena - M/F, YA Fantasy Romance, No Sex, Magic User Heroine, Book 1 in a Duology.
----
Contemporary Romance
Vanessa’s Winter Romance by Christina Rose Andrews - M/F - Open Door - Interracial Romance, Law School Heroine, Black Heroine, Hispanic Hero, Beta Hero. (Bood 2 of a 3 book series)
Take a Hint, Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert - M/F - Open Door, Interracial romance, College Professor Heroine, Black Heroine, Muslim Hero, Bisexual Heroine, Beta Hero (Book 2 of a 3 book series)
Dirty Sweet Wild by Julie Kriss - M/F - Open Door, Disabled Hero (Amputee and PTSD), Sex Worker Heroine, Veteran Romance, Billionaire Romance (Book 2 of a 4 book series)
Tramps Like Us/Kimi wa Pet/You’re My Pet by Yayoi Ogawa - M/F - Open Door - MANGA Series, CW: Homelessness, Love Triangle. Heroine is a successful Business woman.

Pumpkin faced
This was based on one of my inktober drawings. Sorry if this got a little confusing, I didn’t really edit this one. @pabstite @foofybunnji @blrwere @pingo1387 @invadeur @axelotled @clcloudsh @chibigikochin @mogadeer @enby-phoenix @marshmallowace, you reblogged the artwork from @blockswingperry. If you don’t want to be @’d again for this kind of thing please tell me
“There has to be at least one person in this town with a phone,” muttered Wirt. He was tired, and he wanted to go home. He walked up to one of the doors and knocked. Nobody answered. He tried the door and found it unlocked. Which wasn’t that weird the more Wirt thought about it? Nothing much to steal from farm folk.
“Hello? Anybody in here? I just need to borrow a pho-” Wirt stopped dead in his tracks. A turkey (dead maybe?) laid across the table and really caught him off guard. “Um, I was just wondering if you had a phone I could borrow?” The turkey raised his head. They looked at each other in silence for a moment before Wirt felt awkward. “I’ll just go,” he said and closed the door. The turkey laid it’s head back down.
Okay, so he wasn’t expecting a turkey citizen. Did all the houses contain turkeys? Surely turkeys had no use for the pumpkin fields that were littered around the town. As he was thinking over the complications of turkeys and pumpkins, he did not notice a rock in the middle of the road. He tripped on his shoelace and smacked his head hard on the rock. And that was how the townsfolk found him. Lying on the ground and his head all bloody.
“Tell Enoch we got another one. He might be ready next month. A little late for the party, but the more the merrier.” A person, all dressed in pumpkins and corn husk, almost like the cornhusk doll Wirt himself made when he was little and living in the country, remarked.
The pumpkin’s companion agreed and went to alert Enoch of their soon to be newest citizen. Wirt was buried in the middle of one of the empty fields. The townsfolk worked quick to cover him with dirt. _______________________________________________________________________
Greg could not find his brother. He had wandered off to go find someone with a phone, but when checking a few houses he gave up. “Hey, Beatrice have you seen my brother?” Greg asked turning to the little bluebird. “Could you send a magic tiger to go find my brother? I haven’t used my wish yet.”
“For the last tim-” Beatrice was about to really scold the kid, but then thought better of it. “Hey, look kid! There’s a bunch of people going into that building! Let’s go check it out!” She sighed in relief when Greg agreed to go.
As they entered the barn the duet noticed a couple of things. One, the people were wearing pumpkins and dried cornhusks. Two, there seemed to be a festival going on. Three, no sign of Wirt. Greg went up to one and started asking questions. And that was how their night went. Stopping to dance or join in the festivities. Eventually, the head of the town realized they had crashed their party and accidentally smashed a few pumpkins.
The punishment for their wrongdoings was to finish shucking corn and cleaning up after the festivities in the barn. They did their work as all the pumpkin wearing citizens marched out to complete whatever last hurrah that would complete the festival.
“What do you think they’re doing out there? Do you think Wirt will hear the pumpkin people and come and find us? Wirt is a very good finder. He found our frog!” Greg rambled as he worked to Beatrice, who wasn’t doing much work at all. (In her defence shucking corn and picking up large objects with her little bird feet is a hard task.)
“I don’t know. Maybe. Your brother couldn’t have possibly wandered far, considering that he knows we’re here. Maybe,” Beatrice paused for a moment thinking of the horrible beast, her curse, and her own numerous siblings, “he’s looking for food? No not food, uh, I think he told me he heard a magic tiger around here.” Greg’s distrust of this answer was clear on his face, but he didn’t press on. _______________________________________________________________________
They stayed in the town, on Beatrice's request, with one of the pumpkin people. The couple they stayed with was Marget and James. They were lovely folk, but their slightly strange behaviour combined with Wirt’s disappearance, they were more than weary. What if...Wirt was still with them? Just not on the plane of the living. This thought borrowed into their heads.
Now that they thought about it, when they first got here didn’t the ground look disturbed? Just large enough a patch that it could possibly hold...a body. They both looked at each other with horror. They made plans to check the dirt out in the middle of the night, so as not to wake what could be pumpkin murders. _______________________________________________________________________
It was dark out. Greg and Beatrice slowly creeped out into the night, heads sharply turning at each sound. They made their way into the empty field, where the dirt laid disturbed, possibly because of the load it may now carry. Greg had grabbed a shovel earlier and now used it to take in shovelfuls of dirt and throwing it to the side. Beatrice kept watch, ready to take Greg and leave this place forever.
After some time, Greg’s shovel hit something. He hurriedly started to dig out the outline of the object. Slowly, the truth was revealed. Wirt’s body laid snuggly in his grave, surprisingly not as decomposed as it should be. His body was mostly whole, besides a huge patch of flesh that was missing from the left half of his face. His skeleton was visible just a few inches from the jaw and surrounded his eye. It almost looked intentional, like an obviously fake Halloween costume with gore, except his skin was a terrible white colour, with his lips tinged with blue.
They screeched, and they could hear the citizens of the town waking up and heading their way, but at the moment they were a bit occupied. Their screech of fear was involuntary and had awoken Wirt. Wirt’s body struggled, not completely dug up. “Wha-, WHAT THE ACTUAL FU-” Wirt’s body was cut off when the head of the town yelled in a bellowing voice, “WHO DISTURBS THE RESTING?” The three scrambled a bit, blurting out unintelligible answers and jumping and avoiding each other when Wirt tried to get out of the hole he was in and Greg and Beatrice dancing around his arms.
“I’ve seen you woken up our newest citizen, that wa-” Enoch was cut off by Greg’s high pitched, “OH GOSH YOU KILLED WIRT!”
“What? Oh, you mean the young lad? He fell and hit his head and died. We were merely doing a kind act when we got there and it was too late. A tad strange you were able to wake him up earlier than the ground would allow. Unless. Hmmm. Perhaps we were a little bit too hasty to let him join us.”
Enoch had bent his streamer-like arms in thought, the villagers muttering that it was strange Wirt was able to move around in his current state, and they didn’t check if he had stopped breathing had they?
There was a brief moment of silence when, in a tiny voice, Wirt asked, “ ᵂʰᵃᵗ ʰᵃᵖᵖᵉⁿᵉᵈ ᵗᵒ ᵐʸ ᶠᵃᶜᵉˀ” He had finally gotten out of the hole, looking a little worse for wear. His clothes were, of course, dirty, and his skin still that awful white and blue. The only difference was his confused expression.
“Er, it appears you were...too early.” Enoch, who usually held such authoritative command in his voice, sounds deeply ashamed. “It’s how things are run here. The dead are brought here to us, we bury them, and the dirt gives them a new life. But since you weren’t entirely dead when you were placed, I’m not exactly sure what you are. Undead perhaps?” _______________________________________________________________________ Wirt, Greg, and Beatrice had a whole lot of questions, but as soon as Enoch said Undead both Greg and Wirt whispered Zombies and promptly forgot their questions.
As they soon found out, Wirt was not unlike a zombie. The soil he was buried in had special properties. It decomposes and in return, a new life as a byproduct occurs. The pumpkins and other crops grown in the soil were special too, as they sustained the now living skeletons with more of the strange energy found in the soil and the evolved plant life.
Since Wirt wasn’t completely dead when he was placed, he died in the soil which screwed up the dirt’s properties. So instead of using his dead flesh as a means to rejuvenate him, it was stuck in a loop trying to eat away at his head wound and repatching it. It also reached into his still-beating heart, effectively chaining his life to the soil. Enoch had a remedy for this. As the trio started back up on their journey home, he gave Wirt (who had already taken up wearing a pumpkin head) a small sack of pumpkin seeds, so he could grow his own.

youtube! jungkook "Close your eyes and hold out your hand" in so excited you're back you've been missed my dude
Ary’s Drabble Bonanza: August ‘17 Edition Character Jeon Jeongguk (Jungkook)AU YouTuber
“Is it on? Alright. Hello! I mean, aloha, guys!”
“What a dork,” you mutter, laughing and shaking your head.
“I heard that,” Jeongguk says, looking at you through the camera. “Anyway. As you can probably see, we’re still in Hawaii right now, and hot damn is it nice out here, you guys. Stunning. Oh, and _____’s here too, I guess.”
“Wow. Thanks,” you say, rolling your eyes, but waving at the camera regardless. “How’s it going, guys?”
“Today is day… uh, three?”
“Yep. Day three.”
“Day three of the Adventures of Jeon and _____ are well under way. Today, we’ve got snorkelling on the agenda, which reminds me,” Jeongguk says, padding over to the bed where you’re currently lying, holding your phone over your head. “I need to charge my GoPro. Hold this for a sec, babe.”
You take the camera from him, adjusting the view finder to see your reflection before continuing on from where Jeongguk left off.
“We’re also going hiking up a volcano crater so, uh, pray for me guys,” you say. “And pray for Jeongguk too, because he’s gonna have to carry me on his back when I get tired. And to top that off, we’re going on another sunset cruise.”
“I’ve also heard there are nude beaches around here,” Jeongguk says, putting his charging camera down onto the side table before jumping onto the bed next to you. “So if you guys know where they are, comment down below and let me know so we can go to one before we leave.”
Scrunching up your nose, you smack his chest.
“We’re not going to a nude beach, you nerd.”
“That’s what you think, babe.”
“Oh my God, that was…”
“Okay, I swear that fish winked at me,” Jeongguk says, holding the camera out in front of the both of you as you squeeze the excess water out of your hair. “When we get back to the hotel room, I’m gonna look back at the footage and show you, _____.”
“Jeongguk and his winking fish aside, you guys have to do that if you ever get the chance,” you say, laughing. “The water is so freakin’ clear, I can see my own feet.”
“She’s just jealous a fish didn’t wink at her. But, exactly what _____ said. It is beautiful down there. Legit. The camera didn’t do any of it justice. You really need to see it all for yourself.”
“We should do that again before we leave, babe.”
“For sure.”
“Right now, though, we’re gonna stuff our faces with some spam musubi, so we’ll see you in a bit!”
“Alright. We’re about halfway there,” Jeongguk says, adjusting his cap. “How you doin’, babe?”
“I crave death,” you say, panting from where you stand, a few feet behind Jeongguk, dragging the back of your arm across your forehead. “Kinda wishing this damn volcano was active so it would consume me already. Who’s idea was this?”
“Hey, you were the one that said you wanted to see what it was like to stand on top of a volcano.”
“Yeah, but I thought we’d, like... take a helicopter ride or something. I wasn’t looking for no Sound of Music ‘Climb Every Mountain’ experience while we were here in Hawaii.”
With a soft chuckle, you watch as Jeongguk treks down the path to where you are, camera still in hand and held above his head. He stops right in front of you, turns around until his back is facing you, and the camera doesn’t fail to capture the look of surprise on your face when he crouches down.
“Wait. Really?” you ask, laughing with disbelief.
“Didn’t you say I’d carry you on my back when you got tired?”
“Babe, I was just kidding.”
“Oh.” Jeongguk looks at the camera, blank-faced. “Nah, still. Climb on. No girl of mine is gonna suffer, even if she is the reason we’re doing this in the first place.” You shoot the camera a look, but you’re praying the trees have blocked out enough sun for it not to pick up the slight flush on your cheeks that has nothing to do with hiking uphill. “You’re gonna have to hold the camera though.”
You take hold of the camera, other arm wrapped securely around Jeongguk’s neck as he curls his hands around your bare thighs, pushing you up and adjusting your position so that the both of you are comfortable. He starts to walk, and you turn the camera around to face the both of you again.
(You can cut out unnecessary parts later in editing. The wonders of the digital age.)
“Well, it’s nice to know all those trips to the gym were not in vain,” you say, resting your chin on his shoulder.
“Hashtag worth it,” Jeongguk says, wiggling his eyebrows.
You’ve been with Jeongguk long enough to know his filming style, and while you can’t replicate it exactly, you know now when he’d take a certain shot, put the camera down, and then bring it back up to shoot a certain view, so much so that he barely has to ask you to film something during the rest of the hike. You have a little pride in knowing that you’ve gotten better over the years, progressing from crappy, low quality videos filmed on your laptop’s webcam to softboxes and microphones attached to your proper camera set up on a tripod. It’s all so interesting to see how far you’ve come -- how far the both of you have come -- not just in terms of your careers on Youtube, but as a person, and as one half of a couple.
You’re so lost in nostalgia that you don’t even realise the both of you have made it to the top until Jeongguk is gently squeezing your thighs to grab your attention.
Neither of you are saying anything, just letting a comfortable silence blanket the both of you while the view speaks for itself. The sun is getting ready to set, waves still rolling against the side of the yacht. By some stroke of luck, the two of you have ended up as the only passengers at the front of the boat on the deck, the voices of other passengers just a distant noise behind you and Jeongguk. The air is still warm, and you can feel the skin of your back and Jeongguk’s chest is sticky with sweat, but neither of you make the first move to shift away from each other.
There’s a tap on your shoulder, and you turn to see Jeongguk silently ask you to hold the camera, nudging his head back towards the rest of the boat. You nod, interpreting his gesture as the signal for a bathroom break, and he leaves you with a kiss on your cheek.
You barely hear him return, flinching when he comes into view in your peripheral and sits down in front of you. He laughs quietly, taking the camera from you and setting it down a few feet away from where you both sit, keeping you both in view. Your eyebrows furrow slightly in confusion, but you don’t say anything.
“Close your eyes and hold out your hand,” he says.
“Why?” you ask, narrowing your eyes when you realise he holds one of his own behind his back, out of sight. “Last time you told me to do that, you handed me a baby frog and scared the shit out of me, Jeongguk.”
“I won’t do that again. Promise.”
You jut out your bottom lip, skeptical, but there’s a look in his eyes that makes you comply eventually. Jeongguk takes a deep breath and licks over his lips, taking your outstretched hand and turning it over so that your palm faces down.
Your eyes snap open when you feel something sliding onto your finger.
“Don’t call me out. I know I’m three years late with this,” Jeongguk says, chuckling sheepishly as he stares down at your hand, avoiding your eyes. “But when we first started dating I could barely afford to buy myself dinner some nights, and I didn’t wanna buy you some cheap-ass couple ring from some little stall in Hongdae because you deserve so much more than that. I know we’re still young, and we still have so much we wanna do individually, on Youtube or otherwise, but I can’t wait for the day I get to slap a different kind of ring on your finger and to spend the rest of forever with you, _____. You settled for convenience store cake and one half of a kiddy ‘best friends forever’ necklace set I won at the arcade on our hundredth day, and I told myself that the next piece of jewellery I’d give you would be a hundred times better than that.” You watch him gnaw on his bottom lip before nervously lifting his head to meet your gaze, not even realising tears had fallen until he stops talking to reach up and wipe your cheek. “I love you,” he continues, smiling fondly. “I could write hundreds of songs in my lifetime and still never run out of things to say about you, _____.”
You lunge forward and kiss him, cutting him off before he can say anything else.

The Las Vegas desert brings in scorching hot summers, which is why we don’t like leaving the apartment until sundown. Even when going you’re out at night, it feels like there’s a hair dryer blowing hot air on you.
Now that we’re more experienced adventurers and we slow , we can be more strategic on where we explore. We reserve late to early for outdoor activities, and when the heat sets in, you’ll find us indoors. If you’re visiting in the summer or live here and can’t seem to escape like the other sunbirds, here’s a list of the best indoor activities in Las Vegas.

25 Fun Indoor Activities in Las Vegas for Scorching Hot Summers and Rainy Days
It is our second year working with CORT, and it has been such an amazing experience being able to move from city to city without having to worry about our furniture.
For the first 4 years, we would either move our own furniture or deal with the stress of buying and selling every year. Once we discovered that we could rent furniture from CORT, it was a game changer.
We order the pieces that we want, they deliver it right to our apartment and help us get it set up. When we’re ready to move, they’ll come pick it up! Check out our home tour here.
Having a comfortable home was extremely important for us moving back to Vegas. Not only will we be spending a lot of time indoors during the summer, we’ve been hosting guests every other week. It’s been nice having a home furnished and decorated to help us relax and host. Read more on the CORT blog

2. Las Vegas Escape Rooms
We did our first escape room in NYC when we lived there, and then proceeded to do 8 more that winter when it was miserable outside. Now it’s the summer heat we have to worry about.
We’re making our way through all the top rated Las Vegas escape rooms so we can report back on which are the best. So far our favorites are Lost Games Chapter 2 and the BASEMENT.
