كان فريدريك تشايلد حسام رساماً إنطباعياً أمريكياً إشتهر بلوحاته عن المدن والمناظر الساحلية. جنباً إلى ماري كاسات، كان لحسام دور في نشر الإنطباعية بين جامعي اللوحات الأمريكيين وبائعيها والمتاحف. إستخدم حسام في لوحته طبقة رقيقة من الأزرق الفاتح، يتخللها القليل من اللون الوردي والأصفر، ليستحضر روح الشتاء في اللوحة. كان حسام مكرساً جهده لرسم الحياة المعاصرة، وتمكن من نقل رؤيته بمهارة من خلال ضربات الفرشاة السريعة وتركيزه على تصوير تأثيرات الضوء على عناصر اللوحة.
