#ugh this month just keeps being the worst#xcz personal#my apartment is full of secondhand cigarette smoke#the air filter isn't really making a dent#every time i get a downstairs neighbor they're exponentially worse than the one before#nearly thirty years here and i've never had to deal with smoke like this before#last year they got me wearing earplugs 24/7 i'd hoped them moving out might be a better change#nope these people are noisy in the middle of the night#so during the day: apartment construction/maintenance and during the wee hours of the morning (2-5am): downstairs#and of course they smoke inside! (it's rainy here right now)#and of course i'm super sensitive to it bc i grew up in a house with two chainsmokers and thus have crap lungs#also both my parents died of copd/lung cancer so#i keep looking for places to move but the market here is ridiculous#and how do i make sure i don't move and end up in exactly the same predicament *plus* paying at least 50% more in rent?#i'm feeling that tumblr post about being employed as a hermit by a rich person right now#i'm quiet i don't smoke or have a tv i have no pets kids loud or involved hobbies or any visitors i pay rent reliably and on time#surely someone with an air conditioned hermit shack out there needs a decent tenant#no matter what happens if i say something the downstairs neighbor will resent me but i can't just suck it up#bc i literally have had headaches and a cough the past few days and i was wondering why i was waking up feeling so much worse#than when i went to bed - i thought it was a cold but i haven't been anywhere except the grocery store for 20 minutes#in the past 3 weeks plus: runny nose?#i was like we're not expecting an actual cold front for another week and that's when my sinuses tend to go bonkers#or i thought maybe it was leftover from the paint fumes thing last week which#they never got back to me or offered an explanation which leads me to think it WAS them doing after-hours work#she started to say 'well sometimes when we refinish countertops there's fumes but we send a notif-' probably realizing#that i would then be asking 1) why i *didn't* get any kind of notice and 2) WHY WERE THEY DOING IT AT 2AM?#anyway i just feel like if they were at all concerned about it being an ac leak they would be covering their butts by checking my ac?#but since they don't seem worried about it to me that means they already know what it really was and don't want to admit it#circuitous logic but being deprived of sleep by noxious fumes twice in two weeks can cause justifiable paranoia i'd guess#and i can't even open my windows bc of multiple layers of blackout and sound dampening curtains and furniture in the way
