SPOILERS FOR A LAST OF US PART 2 (don't read if you don't know what happened in part 2)

So hear me out because I'm loseing my mind. I didn't play the game, but I mostly know what happend.

What if they made a small change for the season 2 and Joel tells Ellie the truth few days after they came back. Ellie knows that he lied, because she could sens that, and is not mad about this per se but she doesn't get it, so she asks him why he did it. Joel says that at the time it seamed like the only choice and that he already let one dughther die, he couldn't let it happend to another. He also says that if one day she decides to do it he will support her, but that it's not her resposabiility to save the world, that had been broken before she was even born and that she most than anyone deserves to live a happy life ( she's only forteen for fuck sake)

They both cry by the end and Ellie accepts this and forgives him and they leave together ( because it's insane to think that after what they been throught this two could leave in differerent homes without having anxiety and worrying about the other constantly, don't let me even mention they condependency) and have an amazing years even if full of hardships, because they both broken people.

Thought Abby still comes and Joel still dies (or he doesn't but we don't know until part 3 - can't you imagine the fucking reunion ❤) and Ellie still sees it. Would't it have a more impact on her, if they were in a good place and he's reaped from her life suddenly, instead of whatever they did in the game? 😢

I'm not ok with Joel dying, but I get it's important for this storyline, but at at least let me have this? 😭😢 This is the only way I will be able to accept this even if watching this will ruin me for sure.

ellie’s question is like a kid asking their parent to push them on the swing, or give them a piggyback ride.

and joel’s response is as if they’ve known each other for years, and not just two years like they have. it’s just such a dad response. he’s answering it as if he’s watched her grow up (which he kinda has for a while now), but like for much longer than two years.

“oh, i’m too old for that now. i can’t give ya’ rides like i used to when you were a kid” and they’ve literally known each other for only a couple years by this point.

i’ve literally had interactions like this with my parents. “remember when you and i used to do this…?” and they’ll be like “yeah, but i’m definitely too old and you’re too big for that now” in a reminiscent sort of way.

joel is dad. and don’t even get me started on the “kiddo”

What if that was Geo? What if they used to be friends? And then Geo scaped the dungeons and Vania simply though he was imaginary, thus forgetting about him?

It would make sense that Geo would not spend a lot of time with other Munce since he was pretty much treated like an outcast, so imagine baby Geo finding and making friends with an even babier Vania. Also, both of them doing art together (Since Vania did the Ninja cardboard, so she prolly likes art).

Anyways, Geo spending time with baby Vania and thinking of her as a little sister. Done? Got it? Great. Now imagine Cole telling him about Vania and his heart breaking about being remembered only as an Imaginary friend. You are welcome.

the fact that their bond and good moments were so short lived because now ellie knows he’s lying and she’s trying not to believe it but SHE KNOWS and it’s going to set up their strained dynamic in season 2 fuck this story so hard man

guys hear me out on this take……. but with caitlyn becoming more violent and blinded with the idea of revenge i couldn’t stop thinking about ellie from tlou (second part specifically) 😭 like the way she also lost a parental figure because of one particular person and starts mindlessly chasing them seeking for revenge and some kind of justice…… im so SO scared for caitlyn’s further story considering how everything ended for ellie with her losing literally everything 🥲🥲

the real tragedy of tlou is that in saving ellie’s life, joel dooms their relationship. it’s not tragic that he killed a hospital of ppl and prevented a cure bcus we have no emotional attachment to any of those people or the notion a cure might actually work and fix the world. we’ve travelled across that world with ellie and joel and seen how it’s in pieces and how unlikely it could ever be fixed the way the fireflies imagine. but emotionally we ARE with joel and ellie and as we see them in that car and hear joel tell his lie and see ellie’s face, we know that things can’t be the same for them again. i am now and have always been of the opinion that joel lies in that moment to protect her from her feelings of guilt and the burden of thinking she has 2 save the world (and ive always said too he should have told her the truth eventually instead of her having to force his hand to get it), but regardless of that the choice joel made and the lie is always going to be between them. things will always be a little different now. an unspoken thing that eats away at the space between them, making it bigger and bigger. and that’s why it’s really tragic because joel picked ellie’s life over and above anything else cus he loved her and thus knew her life had value independent of being a cure to save the world and she should get to live it, but whilst she is living it (something she is only able to do cus he saved her), he has to watch from afar. he saves her and loses her at the same time.
