I sort of agree that the ‘point’ of fanfiction is to see characters from a different point of view, but honestly I’ve been consuming fanfiction for the better part of over 10 years (not to be showing my age) and what I’ve learnt is yes, if there isn’t fanfiction you want to see in the world, you do have to write it. Because another core element of fanfiction is to fulfill areas of media that will never be fulfilled by the original creators. If Redacted will never do an audio that is Asher x Babe take a trip to the Bahamas and their flight gets delayed, and you so desperately want the ‘Babe falls asleep on Asher’s shoulder in the airport and they nearly miss the next flight because he can’t stand to wake them up’, WRITE THAT SHIT! Yes, fanfiction is in part to see other people’s point of view, but it is also a super effective way to put your ideas and your feelings out into the world. Just because people favour one pairing in particular, does not mean they are in the wrong nor are fanfiction writers responsible for fulfilling media for a pairing they aren’t passionate about. If you can’t find that convoluted Lasko x Coworker x Gavin x Freelancer story you want, make it!
