Meeting Lars from Metallica

July 10th 2019. Copenhagen, Denmark.

One day before Metallica's concert in the heart of the city.

It was a warm day of summer. Sunny. Clean sky. The bluest of all.

I was chilling out at home on my day off from work. I woke up quite late since I had been working the night before. I was checking Messenger when out of the blue some of my colleagues started sending me messages saying "The Metallica guy is here!"

I jumped out of the bed and my chest felt a sort of pressure from the excitement.

I didn't know how to proceed. My only thought was "I have to be there before he leaves". I got ready. Took my bike. Went straight to the train station near my place. Got in the first train I saw and I was at the Cafe in 20 minutes when it usually took me much longer.

Previously that week I had been imagining, daydreaming what it would be like to have the chance to encounter Metallica's members. I had never bought meet and greet tickets for a gig due to their insanely expensive prices. I pictured in my mind the whole sequence. All the time. Metallica coming to eat to where I was working as a kitchen assistant. Everyone being emotional. Delusional with their presence. 

Once I arrived I left the bike parked outside. Locked it. The Cafe was empty. Lars and his wife were having lunch inside. No one else.

I entered the place. I was trembling. I pretended to act normal but I was nervous as hell. Lars was sitting there. Eating.

I have always had the belief that it is discourteous to interrupt people while they are trying to enjoy a moment on their own. Especially the most famous ones.

They are always surrounded by those claiming a photograph, a signature and so on. I perceive it must be exhausting to live constantly in that situation. Not being able to have a small normal moment for yourself.

Anyway. I approached them in the kindest of manners. I talked to him just a bit. I told him I felt I was bothering so I was going to leave but he kept chatting for a while and said it was okay. That my behaviour did not irk. I guess he is used to strangers talking to him. 

At the end he signed the ticket order and now that is my treasure. 

Who would have thought I was going to meet the member of one of my favorites metal bands at my workplace?
