Okay but would it be weird to make an AU where no one dies and, instead of going to rendezvous, they have to go to a safe house and hide out for a few weeks for things to die down and they end up becoming a mob family, or whatever, and mr orange and mr white can explore their relationship and they find out about vic and eddies friendship (👀) and how vic isn’t a huge psycho and mr brown finds out mr pink was too much of a fucking professional to watch any movies so he makes him binge watch them all.
I just want my first impression of them being a crime family to be true, even if it doesn’t work, it’s indulgent for me.

The Consigliere has a crush on the Vampire Hunter and is heartbroken when he becomes vig. Also, despite the word Consigliere being French and Mafia being Italian, I headcanon the consig’s name is just “Larry” because apparently Consigliere is pronounced like “console-larry”

That Time I Almost Got Mercedes Lackey Killed...
So let me tell you about Gen Con 2018 and how I almost got Award-Winning novelist Mercedes Lackey killed...
To get the story started, you'll need to know that I am acquainted with New York Times Best Selling Novelists Larry Dixon and Mercedes Lackey. If you are unfamiliar with their work:
 * Misty is the author of over 100 fantasy novels. She also has a successful superhero series under her belt. And despite being in her 60s, does not look like she is going to stop writing anytime soon.
 * Larry is also an author, who has collaborated with Misty on several Valdemar novels. He is a fantastic illustrator. Both are avid bird enthusiasts. Remember the giant eagles from Lord of the Rings? Those are thanks to the film and footage taken by Larry. The same footage has been used by Weta Workshop to create the griffons in the Narnia and Warcraft films.
 So, anywho...
Larry recently succumbed to an old shoulder injury he received during his days as a volunteer fire fighter. It was pretty bad. He had limited mobility, had to wear a sling, and could not lift more than 5 pounds for risk of tearing his shoulder out of its socket. As it was only three weeks from Gen Con, and they had already promised their fans they would be there, Larry asked if I could drive Misty to Gen Con and watch over her during the convention. They were also going to be sharing a booth space with my favorite independent film crew Zombie Orpheus Entertainment; for whom Larry has been doing script writing recently.
Previous to this, I was not planning to attend Gen Con this year. Financially, 2018 has not been a good year for me. I have been making enough money to pay my share of the household bills and groceries. But I have not been making enough to save up for extra fun things like vacations or conventions. Ah, the life of a freelancer! So, getting asked to go to Gen Con was made me very happy. Knowing that the room and expenses would be covered helped greatly! All I really needed to do was acquire a badge and save up as much money as I could for the next three weeks to have a little extra spending cash for the dealer room.
In the three weeks leading up to Gen Con, I had managed to accumulate about $300 of extra spending cash. Not bad, but not nearly as much as I usually have to spend in previous years. However, the week before we leave, Rogue Genius Games drops $1,500 on me for recent sales of my newly-released Super Powered Legends Sourcebook. Suddenly, all of my financial worries for Gen Con vanish! Yay!
Sunday -- four days before Gen Con -- my friends marc and Tom drop me off at Larry and Misty's home so I can spend the next day helping with packing and sorting. About 10 AM Monday morning, we have a tsunami roll through the area and it knocks out the electricity. Given the rural area, the power does not get turned back on until 4 AM the following day. Needless to say, we were able to get nothing done with no power available. Tuesday is a mad rush to get everything done that we had not done Monday. Books are packed, posters and art prints are signed, Larry is trying to put EVERYTHING in the Ford Flex -- and I do mean everything! He wants us to take a giant printer, camera tripods, and several Go-Pros for ZOE to use. My foot goes down at 3 PM. Nothing more is going in that vehicle and we are leaving. Larry is literally trying to give us more stuff as we are backing out of the driveway. Bye, Larry... bye!
Once we get on the road, everything goes smoothly! We have driven through St.  Louis, Missouri around 9 PM and stop at a Motel for the night at 10 PM. The next morning, we awaken at 11, get some breakfast, and go. According to the GPS, we are only three and a half hours from Indianapolis. And, thanks to smooth traffic, we get there in that time. Check in to our hotel, I go and grab my badge from the VIG Lounge, deliver some buttons I made for BJ Hensley, and all is good!
Thursday, everything goes great. I escort Misty to all her seminars. At the first one, I get to meet the authors of the Expanse! When we get to her autograph signing time, she lets me know that I am free to do what I want for the rest of the day, and I go through the dealer room. First day of Gen Con done! That evening, Misty lets me know that she only has one seminar to attend at 4 PM the next day and that she will otherwise be at the ZOE booth until then. I am otherwise free to do what I want until 4.
 Then Friday...
Misty's 9:00 alarm goes off and she re-sets it. But she does not get out of bed. Seeing she wants more sleep, I make quick use of the bathroom, dress, and make my way out. It's 10:00 Misty is still asleep, as far as I can tell. I am standing in line to sell some miniatures at the CoolStuffInc booth when Larry calls me at 11:30 to tell me that Misty has had a stroke and my stomach drops to my feet. She is currently at the hospital. I run back to the room, and try to answer all the doctor's questions that I can. I pack an overnight bag for Misty, which is grabbed by her ZOE handler, Judy, and taken to the hospital. Otherwise, I am in the hotel room alone for most of the day, fretting and worried. I get calls every couple of hours for updates. At 4, I am coaxed out of the room by Larry, who convinces me to put on my game face and help show the con that we are still there for the fans. The show must go on.
I still can't help but feel like shit because I was not there for Misty when she needed me.
I finally get some food -- my first in the day -- about 9 PM.
Saturday, I am awoken by a phone call. Misty is okay. I was NOT a stroke. In fact, it was a toxic reaction to the outgassing of the new room we were staying in. The hotel wanted to impress Misty with its newest-refurbished room, not realizing they needed to let it vent from all the paint and redecorating. And given we were 11 stories up, none of the windows are able to open for outdoor ventilation. But, Misty is otherwise okay. I am up and out to the ZOE booth. The show must go on. We are here for the fans!
I have a curtain call for the Gamers: LIVE! show at 11:40 AM. At 11:20, Misty calls me to say I should gather my things in the room, as the hotel will be moving us to a room that is not so... newly refurbished; one that has already undergone its full outgassing period. I am internally screaming my entire way to the room, throw everything into my suitcase on the bed, and run all the way back to ICC 500, where the show will be. I am pouring sweat from what should have been a 30 minute round-trip done in 15 minutes. But I am there for the show!
Obviously, I sucked, because I have no improv skills -- especially when compared to the comedy talent of the ZOE crew -- which is why I quit acting during my Jr. High School years. But where I missed out on improv, I excelled at artistic comedy; holding up quick illustrations of goblins going "pew-pew-pew" after Owen Stephens suggested the villain of the show was a space ("SPACE!") goblin. Close to the end of the show, Satine Phoenix and Rudy Rootenburg appear, along with the rest of the Maze Arcana crew, and steal the show. This is the first time Satine and I have meet in person. We have spoken many times over private chat; both being fans of tabletop rpgs and both being professional artists. She gave me the biggest hug.
At that moment, I realized something... I was no longer sweating (thank the gods!), but I was no daisy either. Also... Satine Phoenix is a fucking ANGEL! She just... radiates... positively, joy, compassion, love... all the things that are good and wonderful and being a human. I really hope I get to meet her again, maybe for more than 5 minutes.
After the show, I return to the (new) hotel room to find Misty there with several of her author friends. They are laughing and talking about the experience Misty just had. As Misty describes it: "I have never been to Woodstock, but last night I went to Woodstock! Those hallucinations were something!" She went on to describe seeing a woman with brown hair and an astronaut suit standing in between the paramedics who took her from the hotel room. She saw visions of the actors from ZOE, and all the different characters each of them played, having a rave. In the MRI, she saw a sheet of  red blood cells covering her. As the MRI machine made a noise, the sheet got closer and closer to her face. Misty was aware that if she blew her breath at the sheet, it would be pushed away...
Yeah... she has new material for her next several novels.
By Saturday afternoon, Misty is back at the ZOE booth, signing books for fans and telling the story of what happened to her to each one. All of them are crying, glad that their favorite author is not dead. I am sitting next to Misty, putting on my brave face and trying not to break down, either... I still feel like crap for not having been there for her when she needed me. but she's safe. She's smiling.
The rest of Gen Con goes smoothly. The drive back goes so smoothly that we get Misty home in one day (apparently I have my father's endurance for long-distance driving). I call my friend Marc and ask if he is willing to pick me up. I really want to sleep in my own bed. It's been over a week, and I want to be home. Marc does, indeed pick me up, and I recall all of this to him on the three-hour drive home.
It's 2 AM on Tuesday when I get to sleep in my own bed. At this point, I am really glad that I had the forethought to wash my sheets before I left for Gen Con. I was tired of smelling my own body odor. I slept so good that night.

Trump's Request For TikTok US Cut Is Never Before
TikTok Interact: Trump's Mandate For US Break Is Unparalleled Microsoft is in talks to purchase parts of TikTok, a forced deal, despite Trump's demand that the Chinese streaming app will be banned. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); The desire of President Donald Trump for the US government to cut off a potential Microsoft purchase of TikTok is in an extraordinary scenario the most recent remarkable condition. Microsoft is in converses with purchase portions of TikTok, a constrained deal after Trump took steps to boycott the Chinese-possessed video application, which claims 100 million US clients and several millions internationally. TikTok is a national security threat, says the Trump administration. How a boycott would have functioned was not satisfactory; that government authority has never been utilized with a shopper application. TikTok declines to give the Chinese government US consumer records. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Microsoft didn't address a potential cost when it affirmed the discussions. Trump on Monday told correspondents that the US "ought to get an exceptionally enormous level of that value since we're making it conceivable," including that "we need and we think we have the right to have a major level of that value coming to America, going to the Treasury." (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); Trump now and then buoys thoughts or activities that get put aside without finish. Showing up on the Fox Business Network Tuesday, White House financial consultant Larry Kudlow seemed to stroll back the possibility of an installment to the Treasury, saying "I don't have a clue whether that is a key specification."
The United States Foreign Investment Committee known as the CFIUS audited TikTok, a federal department led by the United States Treasury Secretariat to interpret national policy blends for the acquisition of a new video application, Musical.ly. A reform made by the interagency board can be endorsed or rejected by the President. But the charges are $300,000 (generally Rs.2.2 crores). The service fee is paid to CFIUS. (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); "I question that is the thing that Trump has as a primary concern," said Hal Singer, an antitrust master and overseeing chief at counseling firm Econ One. "Outside of that, I can't think about any methods by which the US could essentially get its vig on its constrained exchange." A "vig" is slang for enthusiasm on a credit, as a rule with regards to criminal behavior, or the expense charged by a bookie for a wager. There's no lawful point of reference in antitrust law for such an installment, said Gene Kimmelman, a senior guide at the support bunch Public Knowledge and a previous antitrust authority at the Department of Justice. "As far as an unfamiliar organization consenting to offer resources for a US organization subject to antitrust survey, I can't perceive any coherent premise under which Treasury or the White House would arrange components of the money related bits of the arrangement." (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); While taking note of that he isn't a specialist in every aspect of US law and the wide power that the president has, he said the TikTok bargain and the White House's job in it was exceptionally strange. "Not I would say have I seen any commitment from the White House thusly," he said. "It's now a one of a kind circumstance through and through with the administration mediating to forestall utilization of an assistance in the US." There are no "conspicuous antitrust or other lawful bases" for the interest for "what is as a result a result to the US government," said Eswar Prasad, a financial analyst at Cornell University. "The thought of an installment to the US government sets a hazardous point of reference of unequivocal ensnarement between national security and monetary contemplations." (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany avoided an inquiry Tuesday about what authority the central government needed to gather a segment of continues from the possible offer of TikTok, saying "I'm not venturing out in front of the president on any official activity." Depository didn't answer to inquiries regarding what legitimate point of reference Trump is depending on to get an installment for the TikTok bargain. In an announcement Sunday, Microsoft had said that that it was focused on the arrangement "subject to a total security audit and giving appropriate monetary advantages to the United States, including the United States Treasury." (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({}); TikTok has said that it is cherished by Americans and "will be here for a long time to come." In an update ByteDance CEO Zhang Yiming sent Chinese representatives Tuesday, a deciphered adaptation of which ByteDance sent to The Associated Press, he said that he felt the objective of the Trump organization was not the constrained offer of TikTok's US business to an American organization through CFIUS, yet "a boycott or considerably more." A delegate for Microsoft didn't answer to inquiries regarding the installment request Tuesday. TikTok declined to remark past its Monday proclamation.

The Vig: Winners and losers from Week 3 of the 2018 NFL season
Tumblr media
Jimmy Garoppolo might be done for the year, and rookie quarterbacks are all up in our business.
The third Sunday of the 2018 season is officially a wrap. The Cleveland Browns unlocked the Bud Light refrigerator on Thursday with their first win, the San Francisco 49ers lost Jimmy Garoppolo to what is believed to be a torn ACL, and we had a huge upset destroy Survivor pools.
Week 3 comes to a close on Monday with another dose of Fitzmagic. Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers host Ben Roethlisberger and the drama-filled Pittsburgh Steelers on Monday Night Football. Jameis Winston returns from suspension in Week 4, so this might be our last chance at the magic.
Every week will bring its share of wild games, unexpected results, and plenty of money changing hands. Sports gambling is not new, but the Supreme Court’s decision allowing states to legalize it opens the door for a huge expansion. And so, it’s time to keep an eye on the important news, the gut-wrenching news, the quirky news, and how we can best help you make a few bucks each week. Welcome to The Vig!
Survivor pools are destroyed
When we think of NFL gambling, we think of picks against the spread, point totals and futures. But Survivor pools are growing in popularity as a way for people to win some money. In the pool, you pick a team each week to win straight up. Once you use a team, you can not use them again during the season. If the team you pick wins, you stay alive; if they lose you’re out (unless it’s double elimination).
This week, the most popular pick in virtually every pool by a wide margin was the Minnesota Vikings. They were as much as a 17 point favorite against the atrocious Buffalo Bills. Only, somebody forgot to tell the Bills. They took a 27-0 lead in the first half, and cruised to a 27-6 victory behind a solid effort from Josh Allen.
The second and fifth most popular picks in Week 3 were the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots. Jacksonville lost 9-6 to the Tennessee Titans, while New England lost 26-10 to the Detroit Lions. Those two losses combined with the Vikings loss, might have resulted in nearly 75 percent of various pool entrants taking an L in Week 3.
Day of the dog
Beyond just Survivor pools, it was a wild day for underdogs. Along with the Bills, Titans, and Lions, the Saints, Giants, and Washington all won outright. Additionally, the Cardinals and Colts pulled out covers. Favorites led the way in Week 1, but underdogs have stepped up the past two weeks.
Jimmy Garoppolo injures his knee
The 49ers quarterback suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter of the team’s Week 3 loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said the fear is a torn ACL, but it will be confirmed on Monday via an MRI. C.J. Beathard took over for one play, and will be the starter as long as Garoppolo is sidelined.
The injury is as big as they come for the 49ers. The folks at BetDSI have said if the torn ACL is confirmed, they will drop the 49ers Super Bowl odds from 30/1 to 70/1. Prior to the weekend, the 49ers were a 4.5-point underdog to the Los Angeles Chargers in the Week 4 lookahead line. On Sunday evening, the line officially opened at Chargers -9.5, and is up to 10.5 at several sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. BetDSI believes Garoppolo is worth five to six points to the spread, depending on the opponent.
How ‘bout them Browns? Part 2
What a week for Cleveland and its football team! The Browns claimed their first straight up win since 2016, resulting in the opening of Bud Light coolers! The Browns are now 1-1-1, but if you are the betting sort, they are 3-0 against the spread. An unbeaten ATS record doesn’t get a team to the playoffs, but it can win bettors money.
The Browns head west to face the Oakland Raiders who are struggling to get anything going. The line opened as a pick ‘em, but has quickly moved to Raiders -2.5. Will we see an overreaction the other way as the week progresses now that the Browns are the talk of the town?
Rookie quarterbacks galore
Speaking of the Browns, they got Week 3 going with the mid-game debut of rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield. Tyrod Taylor couldn’t get anything going on Thursday, and after he got hurt, Mayfield replaced him. Cleveland seemed dead in the water, but Mayfield then completed 17 of 23 passes for 201 yards, and even caught a pass for a two-point conversion. Cleveland has every reason to finally be excited.
Three days later, we saw another first round pick make his debut. The Arizona Cardinals started Sam Bradford on Sunday, but after a late fumble for his third turnover of the game, the Cardinals switched to Josh Rosen. He completed 4 of 7 passes for 36 yards and threw an interception, but given the healthy swap, one has to think Arizona will be rolling with the rookie moving forward.
Rosen’s debut potentially gives us four rookies starting in Week 4. The Cardinals (Rosen) host Seattle, the Browns (Mayfield) travel to Oakland, the Jets (Sam Darnold) travel to Jacksonville, and the Bills (Josh Allen) travel to Green Bay. As a betting man, I’m intrigued by the Bills-Packers line. The lookahead line this past Thursday was Packers -14.5. Following the Vikings stunning upset of Minnesota and the Packers ugly loss in Washington, the line is between 10.5 and 12 points at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark. I have a feeling it will keep rising, but if you can get the Packers at 10.5, jump on it.
Bad beat of the week
We almost had a crazy cover in the Bears-Cardinals matchup in Glendale, Arizona. The Bears were a 5.5-point favorite, but struggled all day long. Their defense kept them alive however, and they took a 16-14 lead with 4:31 remaining in the fourth quarter.
After a Cardinals interception and a Bears punt, Arizona had the ball on their 20 with 43 seconds remaining. On 2nd and 1, Josh Rosen was picked off on a pass intended for Larry Fitzgerald. Safety Eddie Jackson intercepted the pass and ran it to the house for what would have been six points and the cover. However, Khalil Mack made possibly his first mistake in three weeks with the Bears, jumping offsides and negating the interception and score.
If you had the Cardinals covering, you lucked out. If you had the Bears cover, you probably threw your remote against the wall.
Futures assessment
Divisional and win total futures bets don’t pay off until the end of the season, but you can feel pretty good if you bet on the Los Angeles Rams to win the NFC West. The Rams handled their business at home against the Chargers. The 49ers lost Jimmy Garoppolo to a potential torn ACL, which would seem to remove them from the picture. The Seahawks won their first game to improve to 1-2, but find themselves in the midst of Earl Thomas drama, a shaky offensive line, and a rebuilding defense. And of course, the Cardinals just moved to a rookie quarterback and lack much talent depth.
Save your Rams divisional ticket, because they could lock it up by the beginning of December.
Monday Night Football pick
Pittsburgh Steelers at Tampa Bay Buccaneers (-1): The big question is whether or not the Fitzmagic can continue. Ryan Fitzpatrick and his 2-0 Bucs host a scuffling 0-1-1 Steelers squad. Ben Roethlisberger has struggled on the road, and the Bucs defense is getting healthier at the right time. Add in the Antonio Brown drama and Le’Veon Bell’s continued absence, and the distractions are piling up for Pittsburgh. But honestly, it probably all comes down to what you think of Fitzmagic against a garbage Steelers defense. At some point he has to come back to earth, but this is a great matchup for him. I’ll say the magic continues with a win and the cover.
Looking ahead to Week 4
The first lines for Week 4 have arrived by way of OddsShark, and change is already afoot as this is published. The 49ers-Chargers line was briefly delayed at some sportsbooks given Jimmy Garoppolo’s potentially torn ACL, but most have released a line. The lookahead line on that game was Chargers -4.5, and we have already seen a six point swing in light of Garoppolo’s injury.
That game and the Bills-Packers are the early front-runners for biggest line of the week. The lookahead line in Green Bay was 14.5, but the Bills stunning upset of Minnesota coupled with Green Bay’s loss in Washington has resulted in a big adjustment. This could be ripe for betting the sizable favorite.
Minnesota Vikings @ Los Angeles Rams (-7) Philadelphia Eagles @ Tennessee Titans (+3) Buffalo Bills @ Green Bay Packers (-10.5) Detroit Lions @ Dallas Cowboys (-3.5) Tampa Bay Buccaneers @ Chicago Bears (-2.5) New York Jets @ Jacksonville Jaguars (-9) Miami Dolphins @ New England Patriots (-9) Houston Texans @ Indianapolis Colts (-2.5) Cincinnati Bengals @ Atlanta Falcons (-5.5) Seattle Seahawks @ Arizona Cardinals (+3) Cleveland Browns @ Oakland Raiders (-2) San Francisco 49ers @ Los Angeles Chargers (-10.5) New Orleans Saints @ New York Giants (+3) Baltimore Ravens @ Pittsburgh Steelers (-3) Kansas City Chiefs @ Denver Broncos (+4.5)

2017 NFC fantasy predictions, betting tips and more
Tumblr media
Aaron Rodgers is the best player in the league, but it’s the Seahawks who are the team to beat in the NFC this season. (AP Photo/Jeffrey Phelps, File)
With the 2017 NFL season days away, let’s pick every playoff spot and make a few bold fantasy predictions along the way. FYI, we did the same thing with our AFC predictions.
NFC East
1. Dallas Cowboys 9-7 2. Philadelphia Eagles 9-7 3. New York Giants 9-7 4. Washington Redskins 7-9
Comments/Fantasy predictions
The Cowboys have a tough schedule and a shaky defense, but they can regress plenty and still win 9-10 games…As a 23-year-old rookie, Dak Prescott’s 7.86 ANY/A ranked No. 3 in the NFL, ahead of quarterbacks such as Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Andrew Luck. And he did that with a banged up Dez Bryant. Prescott sure looks like a star…Despite a tough schedule against top cornerbacks, Bryant scores 12 touchdowns.
The Eagles finished fourth in DVOA last year and are loaded on defense, so expect them to be right in the playoff race until the end…It’s unclear if Carson Wentz is any good, but a year two jump would be huge for the franchise. The additions of Alshon Jeffery and Torrey Smith should help…Zach Ertz, who turned 78 targets into 569 yards over the second half last season, finishes as a top-five fantasy TE…LeGarrette Blount goes from leading the NFL in rushing scores to not being a top-50 back.
The Giants have an absolute dominant defensive line, but Eli Manning showed major signs of decline last year. Adding Brandon Marshall should aid in a bounce back…Evan Engram looks like a future stud, but it’s tough to produce as a rookie tight end…Paul Perkins finishes as a top-20 fantasy back…Odell Beckham is decent at breaking tackles.
Washington is a solid team, but this is such a tough division…I’m a big Kirk Cousins fan and believe he’s the real deal, but Jordan Reed suffers through another injury-riddled season, really hurting the QB. Vernon Davis is a deep sleeper…124 teams have had multiple 1,000-yard receivers in the same season. Washington is the first to lose both in the following offseason.

NFC North
1. Green Bay Packers 11-5 2. Minnesota Vikings 8-8 3. Detroit Lions 7-9 4. Chicago Bears 3-13
Comments/Fantasy predictions
It took a six-game winning streak to end the season for the Packers to get to 10 wins last year, and their defense allowed the highest YPA (8.1) in the NFL, but Aaron Rodgers made up for it and will continue to do so. Green Bay should have little trouble running through this division in 2017…Martellus Bennett scores 10 touchdowns.
Despite starting 5-0, the Vikings finished 8-8 last season, and while Sam Bradford has improved, he still limits Minnesota’s upside…Kyle Rudolph led all tight ends last season in targets (132), including inside the red zone, the 10 and the five. Yet his ADP is just that of the TE10.
The Lions made the playoffs last year despite getting outscored, and they are a long shot to make it back to the postseason in 2017…Ameer Abdullah disappoints yet again, while Marvin Jones greatly outperforms his ADP.
The Bears have one of the league’s worst rosters, won three games last year (none on the road), were outscored by 120 points, will be starting either a rookie QB or Mike Glennon and lost Cameron Meredith to a torn knee (and Alshon Jeffrey through free agency), yet their total is 5.5 wins. Hammer the under (although there’s a decent vig)…Despite starting just 13 games and playing for a poor team, Jordan Howard had the third-most runs of 15+ yards last season. He’s legit.

NFC South
1. Atlanta Falcons 10-6 2. Carolina Panthers 10-6 (Wild Card) 3. New Orleans Saints 8-8 4. Tampa Bay Buccaneers 7-9
Comments/Fantasy predictions
The Falcons led the NFC in point differential (+134) last season and held a 28-3 lead late in the third quarter of the Super Bowl, yet they ended up losing by six points. It was the worst ending possible to an otherwise terrific year…Matt Ryan is coming off a historic campaign in which he got 9.3 YPA, but Julio Jones’ health is always a concern. It’s crazy Jones has scored more than eight touchdowns just once in his career and never more than 10…If Devonta Freeman goes down, Tevin Coleman would be a top-five fantasy back.
Carolina followed up a Super Bowl appearance with a last place finish last season, but that means they get a favorable schedule this year. This team is primed for a major rebound…Cam Newton was typically the No. 1 QB off the board last year coming off an MVP season, yet after a down year in which he played the second half with a torn rotator cuff, his ADP has fallen to the QB8. He’s still in his prime, and Carolina added weapons during the offseason, so expect a top-five finish among QBs in 2017. He’s my favorite quarterback target this year…Kelvin Benjamin scores 12 touchdowns.
Despite posting elite offenses, the Saints haven’t had a winning season since 2013…Drew Brees has led the NFL in passing yards in four of the past five years (finishing second in the other), yet you can still get +350 on him to win the yardage title. There are few better bets out there…Adrian Peterson is 32 years old, coming off major knee surgery and has 2,800+ career carries (counting the playoffs). No thanks.
The Buccaneers won nine games last year but were outscored. There’s a lot of hype after the team added some weapons during the offseason, but the recommendation here is to bet the under (8.5)…Jameis Winston is the only player ever to throw for 4,000 yards during his first two years in the league. That’s also been accompanied by 39 turnovers…After returning from suspension, Doug Martin is a top-15 fantasy RB, while Mike Evans leads the NFL in receiving touchdowns.
NFC West
1. Seattle Seahawks 12-4 2. Arizona Cardinals 9-7 (Wild Card) 3. Los Angeles Rams 5-11 4. San Francisco 49ers 4-12
Comments/Fantasy predictions
Seattle has a dominant defense and gets to play the Rams and 49ers in 25 percent of its games. Reach a round or two for them in your fantasy league…Playing on a bum ankle for most of last year, Russell Wilson bounces back and threatens the “big three” among fantasy quarterbacks…Only Odell Beckham and Antonio Brown have more receiving touchdowns than Doug Baldwin over the last two seasons…No Seattle back finishes as a top-40 option, although at his price, C.J. Prosise is the one to target…Jimmy Graham had just six red-zone receptions last year. He’s healthier now and scores 10 times in 2017…Even laying -300, bet on Seattle to win this division. It’s a lock.
The Cardinals had a losing record last season despite a +56 point-differential, and like Seattle, benefit from playing in a division with two of the worst teams in the league…Carson Palmer’s health is paramount and of some concern, but Arizona led the NFL last year with 48 sacks…Larry Fitzgerald is a huge bust, while John Brown finishes as a top-25 fantasy WR.
No team in the league saw a bigger upgrade in coaching over the offseason than the Rams, but there’s a very good chance Jared Goff just isn’t any good (and never will be). He posted the worst ANY/A+ since the merger in 1970 among quarterbacks with 200 passes or more (h/t Bill Barnwell)…Tavon Austin got 4.9 YPT last year, easily the lowest in the NFL…Goff kills Sammy Watkins’ value, as he’s not even a top-30 wideout.
Only the Browns were outscored by more points than the 49ers last season, although the franchise appears to be moving in the right direction with the coaching/GM change and what is considered a strong draft class. Still, they have a difficult schedule, and this rebuild process is going to take some time…C.J. Beathard has wheels to spare…Pierre Garcon catches 85 balls, while George Kittle is a deep sleeper in dynasty leagues…After Carlos Hyde gets hurt, Matt Breida steps in and is a surprisingly effective fantasy asset.
MVP: Aaron Rodgers
Rookie of the Year: Leonard Fournette
Defensive Player of the Year: Joey Bosa
AFC Championship: Patriots over Steelers
NFC Championship: Seahawks over Packers
Super Bowl: Patriots over Seahawks
