Ray Turner, "Woman no. 18," 2008-2015, Oil on Glass, 12 x 12 Inches. This woman was one of the 85 participants I painted for the Long Beach Museum of Art. It was a full throttle preparation, having painted that many in ten weeks, several other GMBM pieces, a catalogue, and 350 street banners all over Long Beach. The only regret I have from that exhibit is I left out the thank you I had written for the director of the museum, from the catalogue. It was a major mistake, and one I still sort of cringe from, as he could not have been more supportive and generous. I needed an assistant and got one not long after that, which was a wonderful move. Anyway sorry again Ron Nelson! sending love and gratitude. That was nearly ten years ago. I love this new canvas painting at Shain Gallery. I did a series of large works in the studio with canvas hanging from the wall. I used huge brushes and lots of loose paint. I love the textures I got from the paint dripping on the canvas. I love the subtle colors I got from the canvas soaking in the colors and then the dramatic pops of colors I added back into the painting. I am extremely happy the way it turned out framed. The canvas and frame make the piece more formal which I love. I will be doing some more of these as it allows me to paint very large and it’s also away to dress my paintings up. He was an all American Scholar on the USC baseball team after graduating with them from Loyola HS. Kevin was part of a group of guys that we were always happy to have at our home. Her mother is a BF of my wife, having begun their friendship many moons ago, as HS students. We love her heart and soul. I liked his head, he happens to be the grandson of Oscar De La Renta, I painted two of him as well as the privilege that I had to paint Oscar.
