Title: end of beginning
Fandom: Yuuri on ice
Characters: Yuuri on ice ensemble
Fic type: series
Pairings: Chris x male reader
Warnings: male reader, reader insert, angst, reader is dense, slight fluff, reader has features technically but that's for plot, reader is in love but doesn't realize
Notes: you are going to look like Yuuri, you're siblings but reader will have some differences to make up for it for plot purposes
🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️🕯️
Every few months, the two brothers would schedule to meet up for lunch, Yuuri moving to Russia and (name) living in Canada made things hard but the two made it work.
"This is Chris and you remember Phichit!" Yuuri introduced them as (name) shook their hands, Yuuri always teasing about how westernized his brother had become but (name) knew he was happy for him.
"Pleasure to meet you, how are you enjoying Canada?" He asked as they sat down and Yuuri grinned "everytime I visit, it's like it's completely changed but hasn't at the same time!" He liked Toronto, he associated it with his brother so therefore it was perfect.
"Very loud! And the lake smells" Phichit said simply and (name) chuckled "yeah, it smells really bad... Apparently it's because of pollution" (name) was so casual and calm as he spoke, body covered in tattoos and looking at them they were obviously siblings, same smile... Though (name) looked considerably more wild and trendy where Yuuri looked more refined and conservative.
"An artist?" Chris seemed curious as (name) beamed and pulled out his phone to show all his work on Instagram "I work with all sorts of mediums-- I always try new things" Chris could see the passion in his words and his art spoke for him, it was genuinely quite impressive as Phichit was already looking through it and liking every photo "whoa! You made a sculpture of (insert celebrity)!" He gawked as he showed the photo to the others "yeah, it was for an auction..." (Name) Said shyly, Chris could now see the personality similarity.
Both were very bad with compliments.
The four chatted for about skating and life and by the end, (name) had two new numbers in his contacts as Chris kept getting closer to him "you got good cologne..." (Name) Said bluntly as he sniffed the others jacket, Yuuri sighing at the fact that Chris was clearly flirting with his brother and (name) was a dense fucker who had no qualms with getting closer to people.
"You can come to my hotel and smell it better if you like~" Chris teased and (name) raised an eyebrow and tilted his head "maybe when I see Yuuri again you can give it to me" he said simply and smiled at the other, Chris was a little shocked at how dense he was "anyways, I better get going! It was nice seeing you!" (Name) And Yuuri hugged and the other two watched how tightly they hugged, clearly missing one another.
Yuuri always worried for (name), the man tended to isolate himself in his art as he and Viktor went back to Canada two months later to check on him "(name)?" Yuuri called as he looked around the large apartment, his brothers works giving him the finances to afford this place. "Wow..." Yuuri said as he walked into the livingroom area where (name) stood in a messy t-shirt and joggers, feet bare as he painted with his bare hands on a large canvas..." Is that Chris?" Viktor asked his husband who nodded, the two looking around to see that the Japanese man had painted and drew amongst other forms of media, works of Chris everywhere.
"(Name), what the fuck" Yuuri said in Japanese, looking around in shock "oh... Hey" (name) said casually, exhausted but somehow still standing and painting "want to explain ALL THESE PAINTINGS" Yuuri waved his arms around to the paintings as Viktor let the siblings to at it "great dimension, (name)!" Viktor said pointing to a landscape painting and (name) looked proud of himself "he has excellent facial proportions, like drawing Aphrodite..." (Name) Smiled as he looked around "I don't know why... He's just perfect for painting... He's a muse"
Yuuri and Viktor looked at each other, the two knew (name) well enough to know what this was, Viktor only a few years but Yuuri... He knew what this was.
(Name) Never really shown interest in others, always in his own world and tended to do his own thing.
He was in love, even if he didn't know he was.
Yuuri ordered food for his brother, knowing the fucker didn't know how to cook for the life of him.
"How do you survive without being able to cook" Viktor said slightly horrified and (name) huffed "I can cook the important stuff! Like rice!" He said indignantly as Yuuri rolled his eyes "yes yes, you can cook the thing you ate everyday" the two siblings bickered as Viktor drank his coffee and watched, his brother in law being a shitling (fondly) as Yuuri scolded him "ordering party servings of food and eating it over a week isn't good!"
"It's called efficiency!"
It was nice despite the bickering, to see the love between the two.
"Do you even talk to him?"
"We talk like daily" (name) said crossing his arms "he's quite a chatter, though he keeps talking in cryptic messages" he said showing the texts where Chris was just blatantly flirting "I don't understand it at all!"
"(Name), never change" Yuuri said simply and his brother looked confused before looking at the messages with a squint.
Yuuri and Viktor looked at the paintings, they were detailed now to the light freckles on the Swiss man's face during the summer, (name) must have been looking at those photos intently as Yuuri set down drinks "how much was that one painting again?" Viktor asked and (name) shrugged "you can just have it if you want" he said simply and Viktor was gonna leave a few hundred, he was not taking that painting for free.
"So what brings you back so soon?" (Name) Asked curiously, sipping his iced coffee as he sat incorrectly on a chair "you have been radio silent for two months, you sent me a single picture of a snail and said 'hes for rizz' and nothing else" Yuuri said incredulously and (name) nodded "lil man had mad game with the lady snails" he said like he was inspired by the snail and Viktor felt the need for a drink with his brother in law "(name) you basically dropped off the face of the earth, you don't do that.. Im worried"
(Name) Sighed and closed his eyes for a moment before opening them "I don't know, genuinely... I got lost in my art and... Mari messaged me... I'm just freaking out" he said softly and looked at his brother "sorry for ghosting... I'm just --- mari wants me to visit and I have been putting it off for forever and I just don't want to deal with mom and dad"
It was no secret to Yuuri and Viktor that (name) had a complicated relationship with the Katsuki parents, it was partly why he moved to Canada.
"We can go together next month, how about that?"
"...fine..." He said simply and Yuuri hugged him, the conversation moving to other topics and the two ended the visit with a photo taken by Viktor who smiled at the brothers, no one realizing the painting of Chris in the background as it was posted.
"It's like looking in a mirror" Chris said simply as he stared at the photo of his friends.
He needed to call Viktor.

IT HAPPENED AT THE ART MUSEUM
@professorlehnsherr-almashy @exoticb-utters @soviet-supersoldier
HAMILTON, ONTARIO, CANADA
THE MCMASTER MUSEUM OF ART HAD BROUGHT INTO ITS HALLS, FOR A FEW BRIEF DAYS, AN EXHIBITION OF TRADITIONAL POPULAR ART FROM BRAZIL:
VARIED STATUES, IN DIFFERENT SIZES, CARVED IN WOOD OR SCULPTED IN CLAY, OF FEROCIOUS LOOKING FIGURES, MIXTURE OF MAMMALS AND REPTILES, KNOWN AS CARRANCAS .
BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPHS SHOWED THOSE FIGURES ORIGINALLY INHABITED THE BOW OF BOATS, WITH TEXT CANVAS ACCOMPANYING THE STATUES AND PHOTOGRAPHS EXPLAINING THEY WERE A PROTECTION AGAINST MONSTERS AND SPIRITS THAT LEGENDS TOLD HAUNTED THE SÃO FRANCISCO RIVER AND COULD TURN THE BOATS UPSIDE DOWN, AND IDENTIFIED HOW OLD WAS A CERTAIN PIECE, WHO SCULPTED IT, AND WHICH OF THE FIVE STATES BY WHICH THE SÃO FRANCISCO RIVER FLOWED CAMED DETERMINED PIECE AND PHOTOGRAPH: MINAS GERAIS IN THE SOUTHEAST , BAHIA, PERNAMBUCO, ALAGOAS OR SERGIPE IN THE NORTHEAST.
AMONG THE PEOPLE WHO WATCHED THE EXHIBITION WITH ADMIRATION, THERE WAS A YOUNG WOMAN IN HER LATE TWENTIES: SHE HAD A LONG FACE, SHORT, FEATHERED HAIR COLORED AUBURN BROWN, WITH A BRONZE TINT TO THE SHADOW.
SHE WAS WEARING A YELLOW JUMPSUIT, A PAIR OF WHITE TENIS, AND FRAMING HER EYES WAS A PAIR LIGHT OF SILVER OVAL GLASSES: WHILE THE RIGHT EYE WAS VISIBLE, SHOWING A BRIGHT GREEN IRIS, THE LEFT EYE WAS COVERED BEHIND A ONE SIDE BLACKED OUT LENS. AND SHE HELD A METAL WALKING CANE.
CAREFULLY THIS YOUNG WOMAN MOVED THROUGH THE EXHIBITION, OBSERVING THE ARTWORKS, INTRIGUED BY THEIR HISTORY AND THEIR CULTURAL MEANING …
AND THEN, ANOTHER VISITOR OF THE MUSEUM CAUGHT HER ATTENTION AMIDST THE CARRANCAS:
LOOKING TO BE IN THEIR MID THIRTIES, THEIR LARGE, MUSCULAR BUILD BODY WAS COVERED FROM FOREHEAD TO TOE IN LONG, FUZZY BLUE FUR, WHILE THE HAIR THAT COVERED THEIR HEAD, WITH FLARED OUT EDGES CUT AND COMBED IN A WAY REMINISCENT OF WOLF'S EARS OR OF HORNS, ALONG WITH THE MUTTON CHOPS AND CHIN STRAP BEARD THAT FRAMED THEIR FACE, WERE IN A DARKER SHADE OF BLUE.
THEIR FACE WAS COMPLEMENTED BY POINTY EARS, THICK BLACK EYEBROWS AND BLACK EYELIDS, BRIGHT YELLOW EYE PUPILS AND BLUE IRISES, A FLATTENED NOSE WITH A FELINE MUZZLE, AND A SMILE THAT REVEALED A FULL SET OF FANGED TEETH.
THEIR ARMS WERE RELATIVELY LONG, THEIR GARGANTUAN HANDS PRESENTED SHARP CLAW-LIKE NAILS ON THEIR FINGERS, AND THEIR BAREFOOT FEET REVEALED OPPOSABLE GRASPING THUMBS BEHIND EACH OF THEIR HEELS ...
THAT VISITOR WAS DRESSED IN SIMPLE DARK RED PANTS AND A ORANGE SHIRT OF LIGHT FABRIC, AND ALSO WORE GLASSES, BUT THE FRAMES OF THEIRS WERE ROUND, LARGE AND IN THE COLOR RED.
IT WAS LIKE IF ONE OF THE CARRANCAS HAD COME TO LIFE, AND THE YOUNG WOMAN FELT COMPELLED TO TALK WITH THEM, AND SEE IF SHE WASN’T DREAMING …
“AREN’T THEY BEAUTIFUL? ”
THE TALL, BLUE FURRED PERSON HEARD A VOICE ASKING, AND TURNED TO SEE IF SOMEONE WAS TALKING TO THEM. THEY WERE SURPRISED TO FIND A LADY LOOKING AT HIM, SMILING WITH CURIOSITY. BUT DIDN’T REACT WITH SHINESS.
INSTEAD, THEY ANSWERED:
“YOU ARE THE FIRST PERSON TO TELL ME YOU FIND THE SCULPTURES BEAUTIFUL. NORMALLY, ONE WOULD THINK OF THEM AS SCARY. I THOUGHT OF THEM AS FUNNY. ”
“I HOPE THE MONSTERS AND SPIRITS OF THE LEGENDS DIDN’T LAUGH AT THE STATUES. IT JUST WOULD MEAN THEY FAIL THEIR FUNCTION IN PROTECTING THE BOATMEN. ”
“BUT WHAT IF BY MAKING THE HAUNTINGS LAUGH, INSTEAD OF SCARING THEN AWAY, THE STATUES ENACTED A MORE EFFECTIVE FORM OF PROTECTION FOR THE BOATMEN IN THE SÃO FRANCISCO RIVER. ”
“THAT IS AN INTERESTING POINT OF VIEW… ”
“EXCUSE ME FOR CHANGING THE SUBJECT A BIT, BUT I NOTICED THAT YOUR ACCENT DOESN’T SOUND LOCAL … ARE YOU A TOURIST FROM THE UNITED STATES AS WELL? ”
“WELL, YOU’RE RIGHT IN GUESSING I WAS BORN IN THE UNITED STATES, BUT I’M NOT A TOURIST. I LIVE HERE IN CANADA NOW. ”
“INTERESTING… WHERE IN THE US YOU CAME FROM?”
“ MISSOURI. ”
“ A MIDWESTERNER! I’M FROM ILLINOIS! ”
“WE WERE NEIGHBORS! WELL … ALMOST! ”
“WHO WOULD IMAGINE TWO PEOPLE FROM THE AMERICAN MIDWEST WOULD MEET UP NORTH! ”
THE YOUNG WOMAN WAS ENJOYING THAT CONVERSATION, AND OFFERED A HAND FOR HER FRIENDLY NEW ACQUAINTANCE TO SHAKE.
“I’M CARLY. ”
THEY TOOK HER HAND AND SHOOK IT EAGERLY:
“HENRY, BUT YOU CAN CALL ME HANK.”
THE TWO RELEASED THE HANDSHAKE, AND WALKED MORE TROUGH THE EXHIBITION, CONTINUING TO TALK, EXCITED.
THEN, CHEEKS BLUSHING, A BIT NERVOUS, HANK ASKED CARLY:
“WELL … IF YOU AREN’T BUSY THE REST OF THE EVENING, WOULD YOU LIKE TO GO FOR SOME TEA OR COFFEE? ”
“ACTUALLY, THERE’S A PLACE ON THE NEXT CLOSE TOWN THAT IS BOTH A DINOSAUR THEMED AMUSEMENT PARK AND A BARBEQUE RESTAURANT. HAVE YOU VISITED IT YET? ”
“I HAVEN’T! IT WOULD BE WONDERFUL IF YOU SHOWED ME. ”
CARLY OFFERED THEM HER ARM.
“SHALL WE? ”
HE TOOK IT, AND THEY WALKED TOGETHER OUT OF THE MUSEUM.

How to Create a Stunning Gallery Wall: A Step-by-Step Guide
A gallery wall is one of the most stylish and impactful ways to personalize your home. Whether you want to showcase family photos, art prints, or a mix of textures, a well-curated gallery wall can transform empty walls into a stunning focal point.
The key to a successful gallery wall is balance, creativity, and thoughtful planning. In this step-by-step guide, we’ll walk you through how to create a perfectly styled gallery wall that reflects your personality and enhances your home decor.
1. Choose the Right Wall for Your Gallery Display
Before selecting artwork, decide where your gallery wall will go. A good gallery wall should feel intentional and proportional to the space.
Best Locations for a Gallery Wall:
🖼 Living Room – Above the sofa, behind the TV, or near a fireplace 🛏 Bedroom – Over the headboard or along an empty wall 🛋 Hallway & Staircase – Great for displaying personal photos 🎨 Home Office – Inspiring artwork for a creative workspace 🍽 Dining Area – Adds character and depth to the space
✅ Tip: Avoid walls with too many distractions (like doors and windows) to keep the focus on your artwork.
2. Pick a Theme & Aesthetic for Your Gallery Wall
A cohesive gallery wall looks curated, not cluttered. Decide on a theme, color palette, or overall aesthetic before choosing artwork.
Popular Gallery Wall Themes:
🎨 Minimalist Black & White – Simple, elegant, and modern 🌿 Nature-Inspired – Botanical prints, landscapes, and organic elements 📷 Family & Travel Photography – Showcasing personal memories 🖌 Eclectic Mix – A combination of art styles and textures for a curated feel 💡 Typography & Quotes – Motivational phrases and graphic text prints
✅ Tip: Stick to 3-4 main colors in your artwork for a harmonious look.
3. Select & Frame Your Artwork
Now that you have a theme, it’s time to choose the actual pieces for your gallery wall. A mix of prints, photography, and framed elements adds dimension and interest.
How to Choose Artwork for a Gallery Wall:
✔ Mix different sizes – Large statement pieces with smaller accents ✔ Vary between frames and canvas prints – Adds depth to the design ✔ Include a focal piece – A bold, eye-catching element to anchor the display ✔ Balance colors and textures – Combine framed artwork, mirrors, and textural elements
✅ Tip: Use Canada Photo Lab’s high-quality canvas prints and framed photo prints to bring your vision to life!
4. Plan the Layout Before Hanging Anything
Before hammering nails into the wall, plan your gallery layout to ensure balance and symmetry.
Best Ways to Plan Your Gallery Wall Layout:
📝 Floor Arrangement: Lay your frames on the floor and arrange them until you find a perfect composition. 📏 Paper Cutouts: Cut paper to match your frame sizes and tape them to the wall to visualize placement. 📲 Digital Planning Tools: Use apps like Canva or Pinterest to mock up a digital version of your layout.
✅ Tip: Aim for 2-3 inches of spacing between each frame for a well-balanced look.
5. Hang Frames with Precision & Ease
Once you’re happy with the layout, it's time to secure your gallery wall with the right hanging tools.
Best Methods for Hanging Frames:
🔨 Nails & Hooks: Ideal for lightweight frames and canvas prints 🛠 Command Strips: Perfect for renters who want damage-free walls 📏 Wall Anchors: For heavy artwork or larger framed pieces
✅ Tip: Use a level and measuring tape to ensure frames are aligned perfectly.
6. Add Depth & Dimension with Unique Elements
A great gallery wall doesn’t have to be just prints and photos—mix in unexpected decor to make it more dynamic.
Creative Additions for a Unique Gallery Wall:
✨ Mirrors – Reflects light and adds depth 🕰 Clocks – Stylish and functional decor 📌 Floating Shelves – Perfect for displaying small sculptures or books 🖌 Macrame or Woven Wall Hangings – Introduces texture and softness
✅ Tip: Use a mix of frames, objects, and prints to create an engaging and dimensional display.
7. Keep It Balanced & Cohesive
Even an eclectic gallery wall should have a sense of balance. Whether you’re going for a symmetrical grid or an organic freeform layout, maintaining a visual flow is key.
Gallery Wall Balance Tips:
📏 Stick to a common spacing rule – Avoid overly large gaps 🌈 Unify with colors – Keep a consistent palette across the wall 📸 Anchor with larger pieces – Position bigger frames centrally and balance with smaller ones around them
✅ Tip: If using different frame styles, keep the colors coordinated for a polished look.
8. Maintain & Update Your Gallery Wall Over Time
A gallery wall isn’t static—it can evolve with your style and life changes.
How to Keep Your Gallery Wall Fresh:
🔄 Swap seasonal prints – Update with holiday or seasonal artwork 🖼 Rotate new pieces – Change out photos or prints for a fresh look ✨ Add new decor elements – Introduce 3D pieces like woven art or decorative wall sconces
✅ Tip: Use interchangeable frames or clip-style hangers to make updating prints easy!
Final Thoughts: Create a Gallery Wall That Reflects You
A well-designed gallery wall is more than just a collection of frames—it’s a storytelling element in your home. Whether you prefer modern, eclectic, or minimalist styles, the key is to curate pieces that resonate with you and complement your space.

The best layout depends on your style! Symmetrical grids look clean and modern, while asymmetrical arrangements create an organic, artistic vibe.

It depends on your wall size. A smaller wall looks great with 4-6 frames, while larger walls can handle 8-12 pieces.
3. Should all frames match in a gallery wall?
Not necessarily! A mix of frame styles can add character, but sticking to one color scheme keeps the look cohesive.
4. What’s the best way to hang a gallery wall without damaging walls?
Use Command Strips for lightweight frames and wall anchors for heavier pieces to prevent damage.
5. How do I make a small space feel bigger with a gallery wall?
Use mirrors, light-colored frames, and a vertical arrangement to create the illusion of a larger space.

Each kit comes with everything you need, including a pre-printed canvas, diamonds, applicator tools, and wax.
The Benefits of Diamond Painting
Stress Relief: Engaging in diamond painting can help reduce stress and anxiety. The repetitive motion and focus required can have a calming effect, similar to meditation.
Creativity Boost: Diamond painting allows you to unleash your inner artist. Even if you don't consider yourself creative, following the pattern and watching the picture come to life is incredibly satisfying.
Sense of Accomplishment: Completing a diamond painting project gives you a sense of achievement. You can display your finished artwork proudly or gift it to someone special.
Choosing the Right Diamond Painting Kits
When selecting a diamond painting kit, consider the following factors:
Design and Theme: Choose a design that resonates with you. From landscapes and animals to abstract art and portraits, there's something for everyone.
Size: Kits come in various sizes, from small projects that can be completed in a few hours to large, intricate designs that may take weeks. Beginners might prefer starting with a smaller kit.

34. If you could choose any talents to have, what would they be?
There is no end to the list of talents I would wish to have. I would have loved to have been a recognized mathematician. I would, in fact, have just settled for liking Calculus. I could only on my wildest dreams see any hope of being a great singer or painter. I would have been jubilant to skate like Barbara Ann Scott, who in 1948 won the Olympic Gold Medal for Canada in figure skating. Since my earliest memories, I wished I could play the piano. When I retired just prior to age 65, I bought a piano thinking I would now have time for lessons and practice. I am now 87 and have yet to arrange for my first lesson.
That I was never a mathematics wizard would be no surprise to anybody. I hated mathematics classes and homework which is no useful approach to learning anything. At no time in my life did I make a great effort to master trigonometry. It simply passed me by and these days I am content to be mathematically endowed enough to add my Dominoes score
in my head.
I think the clear recognition that I had absolutely no singing talent was due, at least in large part to the fact that I do not hear properly and likely haven’t for most of my life. As a child I had frequent earaches and when I was in my mid 30’s my otolaryngologist put tubes in my ears. That put an end to burst ear drums every time I flew. What a gift to be able to hear and be pain free at the end of a trip or the start of a vacation. I still cannot sing or recognize most notes beyond middle C on the piano but although limited, I still hear. Great singers are rare so no being in the ranks is quite understandable.
In Washington I took a painting course at Catholic University and hoped to one day produce memorable works of art. I loved painting but with a growing family time was of the essence. A dogged dedication seemed to be the basic requirement. One day when I was pregnant with Peter I was busy painting as the girls napped. My neighbor came running over to tell me President Kennedy had been shot in Dallas, Texas. The world has not been the same since that day. My neighbor. Rose and I stood all night in the November rain to file past the coffin lying in State in the Capital rotunda. Some time later I took out my easel and paints again.
Today, I have only two of my paintings. One is a still life with a tankard and apples, a pear and knife on a bare wooden table. Kalote wants this canvas and I am glad of that. At this time Jay was separating from the family. he was absent more often than he was present and most financial support of the family was also increasingly absent. Money for canvas as not in the budget. One day I was gardening and emptied a bag of peat moss. It was a burlap bag. I opened the seam, washed the bag and stretched it on a 36 by 48 inch frame. I painted it with two coats of gesso and voila, I had a canvas. this is now the second painting I still have. It pictures women huddled from the cold probably in New York. It is reminisent of Kirshner in the early 1900’s. Both Jaylyn and Anne want this painting so it will find a home and my talent will be somewhere long after I am gone.
My skating talents were sufficient to impress my grandchildren as we skated on a small frozen pond on the farm in Warner. That was satisfying enough. I still wonder at times if I could still glide easily around a rink and stay upright. I never get curious enough to make the attempt.
So here I am feeling certain I have no finely honed or even discernible talent. I am glad I have always had enough curiosity to try many things. I am not a seamstress by any measure but I have sewed my children and grandchildren things to wear. Anne once told me she liked the jumpers I made her for school because they had big pockets. Harry wore his granny made pyjamas until the bottoms were knee high. My great grandchildren get hand stitched baby blankets as my fingers become more arthritic and my Parkinson’s has more influence on my needle work.
I still enjoy gardening, not to be interpreted as a talent but I am grateful for what I am able to do. I am grateful for the talents God has given me, if in fact, he is the deliverer of talents. No talent i acquired reached an “expert” level but all were useful and for that I am truly thankful.

Flow House in Toronto, Canada by Dubbeldam Architecture + Design
Dubbeldam Architecture + Design unveils Flow House, a semi-detached Victorian house in midtown Toronto that has been reconfigured for a creative couple and their children. The transformation of the 130-year-old home included adding additional living space on the back and top of the home, improving connections to the outdoors, and updating the interior and rear yards for contemporary living. The traditional front façade remains, while the interior is now a meaningful reflection of the family’s unique personalities, vocations, and shared experiences.
Also Read | 10 kitchen design ideas inspired by farmhouse style
Though less than five meters wide, with an added area of only 230 square meters, the home now seems much larger through a strategy of compression and expansion. Narrowed interstitial spaces enclose, creating a feeling of constriction, then open to larger spaces with lofty ceilings. And there are moments of surprise and delight – the merging of interior and exterior spaces, the introduction of natural light in unexpected places, and the playful sculpting of elements that establish an organic quality to the home.

Referencing one homeowner’s profession as a ceramicist, the notion of tactility and craft permeates the home through materials, forms, patterns, and textures. Suggesting a complementary hybrid of Scandinavian and Mediterranean influences, the wood cabinetry, screens, and flooring in warm white oak are accented by concrete and Carrara marble sinks, antiqued brass fixtures, and hand-moulded clay pendants. A clean backdrop of white walls and shelving provides a blank canvas to showcase the family’s collection of art, tapestries, and sculpture from local artists, along with artefacts gathered during travels abroad and the owner’s ceramics. Colour animates the interstitial spaces of the home – terra cotta tiles are laid in a herringbone pattern in the entry foyer, and a wall of geometric cerulean blue tiles defines the bar between the kitchen and dining room.

Underpinned by an aesthetic of fluid contours – a deliberate contrast to the rectilinear floorplan – the house’s interior elements appear sculpted rather than built. The helical staircase connecting all four floors is a focal point that expresses the home’s sense of flow. Awash in natural light from the skylight above, the winding balustrade and natural oak treads cast shifting shadows throughout the day.

“Curvilinear forms are employed throughout," says firm principal, Heather Dubbeldam. "Arched openings between rooms incite anticipation as they frame views of what lies beyond, resonating with curved walls, display nooks, the kitchen island and banquette, further enhancing the house’s sculptural sensibility.”
In addition to utilizing the latest sustainable systems and materials to promote well-being, large windows and skylights provide abundant light, natural ventilation, and connections to the outdoors. Mahogany-framed, floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors on the third floor provide access to a roof deck, while a similarly lofty door in the kitchen opens to the furnished back patio.

Similar spatial strategies continue in the design of the rear yard. The volumes of charcoal-coloured panels that comprise the new rear façade are stepped back on multiple planes to create a roof deck and recessed entrance. In the back garden, compression and expansion are further explored through narrowed planting beds that open to wider spaces designed for play, dining, and relaxation. The wooden pergola, brick pavers, and ochre outdoor furniture are a nod to the various temperate climates the family has experienced together. At the same time, the landscaping of lush plantings provides interest year-round.

Haoyu is sticking the packaging seal and shipping label on each box of The Welcome Home, stacked on the table in the second room. There are about twelve boxes of 'The Welcome Home'. He had already attached them on his second box, so he has ten more to go. Haoyu folds the paper in half and slips in the mailing address into the pouch of the adhesive shipping label. He peels the foil to freed the adhesive, and sticks the label at the bottom of the box. It has been three months since he’s been working at The Goodness Gift on his first year. He has made a great connection to his coworkers, such as Pearl. The sound of the printer from the next room, the one next to the first room, the front entrance of the moon base, rings in his ear. Could it be that the job coach is printing out the remaining mailing addresses that the job coordinator is getting for him? Haoyu picks up another sound, footsteps. Someone is coming.
Haoyu turns around and see his job coach, Bhanupriya arrive, holding the papers in her hands. They are above a box. An Art Box.
“Hello Haoyu, since you are sealing the gift boxes and adding shipping label, there is someone who ordered an Art Box for a friend from the US just recently. The customer wants the gift box to be shipped tomorrow,” said Bhanupriya, playing the Art Box and the mailing address paper on the table he is working on. “The address is already printed out for you. So it is an easy to find thanks to the customer help.”
“Okay, thanks you Bhanupriya.” Said Haoyu.
The Goodness Gift accepts delivery to the USA. He told Naseem about this, in case he ever wants to give a gift to a friend or himself. He wonders what kind of person, the giver would be when buying an Art Box for a friend? Well a friend is just an assumption. Well it is for the best. He cannot assume the receiver is a lover. All he is aware of is that this person really wants to show their affection toward someone. Could the receiver be someone who wants create art as contents for their social media accounts? He has seem artworks in Tumblr and Bluesky. That receiver could be famous. Though, The Goodness Gift is not that large of a business. Haoyu shakes his head to focus and not get himself distracted. As Haoyu receive the Art Box from his job coach, he opens the box to check the materials inside the Art Box for quality checking: A Pebeo Acrylic Paint Set, RL Flat Brush #1, RL Flat Brush #4, RL Flat Brush, Palettes & Painting Knives, Canvas Board (12x16), Tutorial Book, a hand-written card, and an Activity Worksheets. They are all here and are protected by the crinkle papers, now to make sure there is nothing broken. He picks up the palette. There are no scratches, cracks, bents, and chips. The brushes are fine because the hairs are covered. The acrylic paint bottles are all in the set, looking new and not used. Or paints spilled. That is good. Haoyu put the palette back. He close the Art Box, remove the foil from the package seal and stick the seal, front and center of the box. Haoyu select the mailing address that reads: Sunny Langston 142 Corlington Drive, Townsville, Pokey Oak County, California. What a coincidence, Townsville is where his little half-brother, Naseem is living with his papa, Sanjay and their papi, Dennis. Honestly it is just the three of them in Townsville. He, Dolores, and Hoshi are living with their mamá at Bootsville, British Columbia, Canada. Hoshi is working at the Del Oro ranch with their grandfather in the sheep holding. Dolores is working at their papi’s tech company. Haoyu thought about reconsidering his papi’s offer in coming back to works at Chan Enterprise. Looking back, if he did help out in repairs, under his father and his senior employees’ wings, the Plumbers’ techs and supplying them with upgrades, he would be praise for his efforts. Only because he is his papi' son. While he is proud that his father for coexistence between humans and aliens in his diplomat missions in space travel and use technology for better communication, Haoyu desire make his own name.
Spending time with his maternal grandfather and paternal grandparents. So he got development socially and develop his values (through his paternal grandmother's strict discipline and internalized her lessons into him to be a proper grandson. Good thing his paternal grandfather stopped her actions from going even further, because he doesn't want her to be the reason that he doesn't want to visit their house again, since he is afraid Dennis won't be around, with the excuses of works, will decrease if Haoyu tell his papi, their son, Dennis about this. Their own son may have been in their life, in a struggle, after back then, but he is all grown up with a proud business after he did everything he could: standing his grounds to his wife, allowing his son to be himself and spend time with his childhood friend, Coop in the past after the Mr. Kat's identity as an alien is exposed to the entire town. It would seem they only gotten phone calls, text messages, and emails from him. At least he attend family outings and family's holiday events. So that is good.). Haoyu folds the mailing address paper in half and slips in the mailing address into the pouch of the adhesive shipping label. He peels the foil to freed the adhesive, and sticks the label at the bottom of the Art Box. Haoyu get off his seat and picks up the Art Box, and goes inside the To Be Mailed Room. The associate places the box on the black shelf. Finally, he exit the room and goes to the room where he continue his tasks of packages sealing and adding the mailing address on the rest of the ten 'Welcome Home' gift boxes. He hope that the person, Sunny whose receive her gift, The Art Box loves her gift.

Jean-François Provost: Présages
Solo exhibition
Premiere: 23 October – 21 December 2014 Art-image gallery @ Maison de la culture de Gatineau, Quebec, Canada
22 January – 23 February 2016 Maison de la culture Ahuntsic-Cartierville, Montreal, Quebec, Canada
The paintings are inspired by images of small solar system bodies obtained by space probes, including Rosetta’s images of Comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko and the (21) Lutetia asteroid.

Visual artist Jean-François Provost takes a break from his usual practice and looks at a natural phenomenon that is of particular concern to him: the real possibility that a geo-cruising asteroid collides with the Earth.
The artist was captivated by the images of asteroids floating in a totally black space, in an absolute void. He is seduced by the beauty of these celestial bodies, but also by the calm and disturbing silence that emanates from them. According to him, asteroids, both beautiful and fascinating, give us food for thought about our history, our collective and individual future and order a break in our frantic lives.
Text from the exhibition page (translated from French): http://w8.gatineau.ca/artimage/expositions/passees/jean-francois-provost.html

(25143) Itokawa, oil and acrylic on canvas, 2014, 96’ X 72’
Jean-François wrote: “My current work, which is diametrically opposed to my usual, abstraction-oriented work, addresses the threat of asteroids to humanity and questions the connection that the announcement of an asteroid impact that could cause a global catastrophe could have on our life. Far from being fatalistic, this theme is a sort of vibrant advocacy for life and mindfulness.”

(243) Ida, oil and acrylic on canvas, 2014, 72’ X 96’
“Over the past 600 million years, the Earth has experienced five mass extinctions that caused half of the world's plant and animal species to disappear almost simultaneously. These extinctions are due to asteroid impacts. Impacts that have allowed human life to develop. Asteroids have fascinated us since the dawn of time. Many civilizations considered them to be divinities or messages from God, sometimes as omens. Many artists have represented stars or shooting stars in their works, including Albrecht Dürer. Asteroids and comets brought life to Earth.” – JFP

(253)Mathilde, oil and acrylic on canvas, 2014, 96’ X 72’
“These magnificent and fascinating celestial bodies give us food for thought about our collective and individual future and call for a stop in our frantic lives. Are we ready for the announcement of an asteroid impact? The answer is no, of course. But if we were told that this was the case, what would be our reaction? Sooner or later, scientists predict that an asteroid will strike the Earth.
According to Edward Lu, a former NASA astronaut and founding member of the B612 Foundation, most large asteroids with the potential to destroy an entire country or continent have been detected. However, this hardly represents 10,000 of the one million potentially dangerous asteroids capable of destroying a large metropolitan area.” – JFP

(4179)Toutatis, oil and acrylic on canvas, 2014, 96’ X 72’
“Are we fully aware of our fast-paced life, of the seasons that follow one other at a crazy pace? According to Buddhism, it would be in our interest to become aware of the concept of impermanence to live the sense of urgency that should animate us.” – JFP

Phobos, oil and acrylic on canvas, 2014, 96’ X 72’
“How do we envision our future? Are we happy? And our current life? Have we become what we wanted? etc. These reflections transcend the subject himself and control, oblige in a way, a time to stop, thus pushing reflection and reasoning to the depths of our being. The human race must sometimes be confronted with its own fears or with itself so that profound changes may occur.
Far from being fatalistic, such a reflection brings us back to true values, the essence of life, its fragility and the urgency of living.” – JFP

Tchourioumov-Guérassimenko, oil and acrylic on canvas, 2014, 96’ X 72’
“The idea of an exhibition about asteroids came to me one day when I came across a photo of the asteroid Lutetia. This photo marked me deeply, and I later did more research to discover equally impressive images of other asteroids. I was fascinated by the beauty of these celestial bodies, but also by the calm and silence that emanates from them. A worrying silence, I would say.
So I began to draw these objects in compressed charcoal, using a technique in which you subtract charcoal with an eraser to reveal light areas and volumes. The works that will be presented for this exhibition will be large format canvases of real asteroids known to astrophysicists and to science. Some are NEOs (Near-Earth Objects), that is to say that they cross, at one time or another in their revolution, the orbit of the Earth or, at least, can pass very close and carry risks.” – JFP

(21) Lutetia, oil and acrylic on canvas, 2014, 96’ X 72’
“Since 2007, my work is moving towards a purification of pictorial space. This thread has become, over time, a second nature, a state that underlies my work. The artwork must breathe. Do more with less. Thinking of it, it is not by chance that I was subjugated by these images of asteroids floating in a totally black space, in a vacuum. That's where the purification is. In the minimalist images of asteroids. The reproduction of asteroids with charcoal and then on canvas comes to some extent close my inner debate on purification. It is a form of personal conclusion.” – JFP

Étude pour (21) Lutetia, oil and acrylic on canvas, 2014, 40 X 48 cm
“The soundtrack made by Alain Larose, which accompanies the exhibition, plunges us into a 24-hour day. It evokes in 24 minutes, one minute for every hour of the day, the tumult of everyday life in the four corners of the planet.” – JFP
Born in Ottawa in 1976, Jean-François Provost holds a Bachelor's degree in Visual Arts from the Université du Québec en Outaouais. He has received several awards and honors for his work as a painter and has produced nearly twenty individual exhibitions in the last ten years. His work in painting and drawing has been presented in Canada, Austria and Italy. The works of Provost are found in several corporate and private collections in Canada, the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
Drawing, is for him a gestural manifestation of the subconscious, plays a decisive role in the composition of his canvases. Provost says that since 2007 he has been exploring pictorial space in his work, in a process of constant refinement. “My approach to both drawing and painting goes far beyond straightforward execution. The drawings, in India ink, graphite, and red chalk, are produced in a stream of consciousness and are then cut out. Paradoxically, they become the embryo of a work that is constructed using a highly studied and rational approach that follows the logic of my investigation of space and its simplification. My work is mainly based on the study of composition in terms of line, depth, relationships between masses, gestures, and trompe-l’oeil”. Provost basically defines himself as a Plasticien.
