Nahia Gil Elizondo (who was u/s Meg in Paris and Copenhagen) made her debut in the West End last night (front center). But what’s really cool is that I have never seen a photo of Meg’s Final Lair hat that wasn’t of Lara Glew in Stuttgart.

Note
Could you make a photoset of Meg in her boy's costume, with the hat on?
That will be a quite tiny photoset… Basically, the costume design, plus Lara Glew. She’s the only one I’ve ever seen photographed with the knitted hat.
I mean, Meg doesn’t wear the hat for a very long time, and I know many Megs aren’t too fond of it. But still, 30 years of POTO and I have a whopping THREE photos of that exact costume. Just enough for a photoset… Coming up!

Gypsy Girl bodices:  1. Original West End (Janet Devenish), 2. Stuttgart (Lara Glew), 3. Hamburg (Renée Weibel), 4. Las Vegas (Brianne Kelly Morgan), 5. USA (Polly Baird), 6. West End (Anna Forbes).  Why oh why is the world filled with fantastic Gypsy Girl fabrics and I can’t find a single fitting one? I especially love number 2, a brown velvet with red flowers, and number 5, a multi coloured damask or brocade of sorts. I’m almost done with the Gypsy Girl skirt, and I’m itching to begin on the bodice. But despite actively hunting for a good fabric for months, I’ve had no luck so far. Baaah. What I DO know, is that I need a bodice with a lot of colour, as the mustard skirt with VERY bright red tabs needs something to balance it. I want a fabric with purple/brown as main shade. But I like how other colours are thrown in there in photo 2 and 5. Especially no. 5. But I like the drab, historical look of the velvet, especially with those golden Baroque shoulder straps.

This has been the "aprons in female Phantom costumes" appreciation post.  And this is only half of the costumes with aprons/apron drapes! 1. Brianne Kelly Morgan, Las Vegas. The lace! 2. Siani Owen, West End. The pose! 3. I wanna say Stuttgart, but I might be wrong. 4. Claudia Cota, Buenos Aires. I adore the drapings here. 5. Leigh Munro, Toronto. 6. Elizabeth Welch, US tour. 7. Judith Gardner Jones, West End. Love the red silk draped on red velvet.   8. Sierra Boggess, Royal Albert Hall. YES to Aminta apron! 9. Lara Glew, Stuttgart. 10. The "Frilly" costume on display in Hong Kong or thereabout.

Meg Giry's wardrobe.  Because of the many ballerina costumes she wears, she has more costume changes than the prima donna herself! 1. The Slavegirl costume (Patricia Ward) 2. The Degas rehearsal outfit (Elisa Heinsohn) 3. The Jeweller's Maid costume (Anna Grönros) 4. The Sylphide (Lara Glew) 5. Meg's Masquerade costume (Brianne Kelly Morgan) 6. The Degas outfit with shawl (Paloma Garcia Lee) 7. The Don Juan Gypsy costume (Sabrina Harper?) 8.  The Boy outfit (Lara Glew)

The only time we ever see Meg Giry in civilc clothes is when she sneaks down to the Phantom's lair to see what's really going on (alternately she goes down there to help Raoul/see her father/save Christine - it depends on who you ask...).  Now, the boy outfit is in no way what she would wear as a regular day outfit. She dress like that to disguise herself, hiding her blonde hair in a knitted cap, and her feminine shapes in boy's clothing. But this is the only time she's not in performance or rehearsal costume throughout the show. So it's kinda "the real Meg" you see here. Ironically few stage Megs like this costume. But it's the last the audience see, when the light zooms in on Meg and the white mask.  1. Maria Bjørnson's design, inspired by a picture in a opera costumes book. 2. Lara Glew in Stuttgart.  3. Lindsey Wise in West End. 4. Lindsey Wise again. 5. Japanese Meg from around 2007.  6. Heather McFadden and Christi Hubbard (?), Broadway. 7. Brianne Kelly Morgan and Michael Lackey, Las Vegas.  8. Rachel Horn, u/s in Essen. 9. Janet Devenish, original Meg.
