I have an idea for a language structure where there's base words, which have a neutral meaning, and changing a vowel changes the meaning. For example swapping I for E would change the meaning of a word that means okay to good, and swapping the E for an A would change the meaning to very good, but swapping the vowel for an O would mean bad, and swapping the vowel for an U would mean very bad. So each words meaning would be dependent on the vowels used, and for words that don't have variant with a positive or negative equivalent, I would be used for all vowels used in the word, and for words referring to past present or future a negative vowel would imply past tense, a neutral one would imply future tense, and a neutral one would imply present tense, for example if the word that preforms the same functions as the words do, did, and done was nilik(not a real word, just an example) then nolik would mean did, nelik would mean do, while nulik would imply far past tense(like months instead of days), and nalik would imply far future tense(like months instead of days), and by changing the second vowel, you can change the tense further, for example nalok would be mid future tense(like weeks instead of months or days) while nalak would be far far future tense(like years instead of months). Another example could be a word indicating understanding, for that purpose we shall make the neutral word be iwi, which will indicate that you aren't confused, but also don't fully understand something, while ewi would be some understanding and lack of confusion, while ewe would be a bit more understanding, and no confusion, awi would be almost complete understanding, and away would be complete and total understanding, owi would be slight confusion, owo would be a bit more confusion, uwi would be quite a bit of confusion, uwu would be total confusion with no understanding, ewo is some understanding and some confusion, ewu is some understanding and much confusion, awo is much understanding and some confusion, awu is much understanding and much confusion, owe is some understanding and some confusion, owa is much understanding and some confusion, uwe is some understanding and some confusion, uwa is mucho understanding and much confusion.

OC Intro: Otilia
Hello everyone! This intro is way overdue by like a month now, oops.
Anyway! The new poll will be up in the next couple of days! I hope y'all enjoy getting to know Otilia!
Name: Otilia (Written below in the Korithian Script)
Otilia is a Korithian and as such she comes from an entirely different naming tradition when compared to the Kishites. It is traditional for Korithian women to be named after their Father and Grandfather, combined into a single name. As such while there is a limited number of masculine names within the Korithian language, there are many varied feminine names. Otilia is the result of her father, Otiros and her grandfather, Likiteres. Her two sisters are named in similar fashion though with different variations on the combination.
This Continues below the cut!
Family
Father: Otiros (Dead)
Mother: Abalia (Alive)
Sister: Otilikia (Alive)
Sister: Likotia (Alive)
Brother: Panatos (Alive)
Grandfather: Likiteres (Dead)
Husband (Estranged): Wadaxes (Alive)
Homeland/Place of Origin
Kalmanati, Eastern Korithia
Ethncity
Bokisic Korithians are those Korithians who inhabit the largest of the Korithian Isles, Bokis. Bokisic-Korithians account for upwards of 70% of the entire population. While descended from Arkodians they also present with strong Baalkic and Kishite influences. This is one reason why these people are, on average, taller than other Korithian ethnic groups.
History
Otilia was born roughly 26 years before the start of the story in the wealthy port city of Kalmanati. Korithian culture and that of Kalmanati in particular is highly patriarchal and highly conservative. She was the eldest child of the wine merchant Otiros and the Makoric-Korithian Abalia. Otilia inherited her mother's auburn hair, a trait none of her younger siblings would share, making her well-known in her home city.
Otiros was quite wealthy and lived with his family in a large manor attended by 23 slaves. As such, he showered gifts on his three daughters, all born within six years of one another. The children were taught decorum, and Otilia was brought to business meetings and negotiations. Although Korithian tradition is highly patriarchal and did not intend for her to be truly involved, she was expected to one day advise her husband on his own trade.
From a young age, Otilia showed a streak of independence, often sneaking away from the expensive tutoring lessons paid for by her father. In this way, she was somewhat similar to Ninma, over two decades later.
Initially, her disobedience angered her father, but it was through her mother, who had never been taught to read or write, that Otilia gained an interest in her studies. Otilia would read to her mother stories and poems, some of her own creation. This was the highlight of her relationship with her mother, which was otherwise often highly argumentative. This sparked Otilia’s passion for learning. By age 11, she could speak Korithian and Kishite, and could read and write in both, as well as in Baalkic script.
Korithian marriages are arranged, often centered around matters of business. Such was the case for Otilia. She had never shown particular interest in marriage or boys. Many men, of various ages, petitioned Otiros for her hand. Ultimately, he decided on a fellow wine merchant, an even wealthier man named Wadaxes.
The wedding took place only days after the agreement was made. Otilia was 16 on her wedding day. Upon meeting her new husband, a man over twice her age, she begged her father to reconsider. Embarrassed and enraged, her father pulled her aside and scolded her. This devolved into a loud and nearly violent argument. Otiros swore never to lay eyes on his daughter again and promptly left her with her new husband. Otilia tried to live a good life, attending to her husband and completing domestic duties, all while secretly continuing to write and read, creating an extensive collection of poems and stories, many of which centered around her struggles with finding happiness with her husband.
While initially kind, Wadaxes revealed his true nature after four years of marriage when Otilia seemingly could not bear a child, despite one instance of Wadaxes’s infidelity resulting in a birth.
Wadaxes attempted to divorce Otilia, a process in Korithian culture that would necessitate the repayment of any dowry or agreements and the "return" of Otilia to her family's patriarch. However, Otilia’s father refused any offer that Wadaxes made, unwilling to take her back. Wadaxes then petitioned the city council, but since Otilia had done nothing to prevent him from producing children by other means, there were no grounds to end the marriage due to her infertility. Despite Otilia's own wish to be rid of her increasingly cruel spouse, the conservative nature of the council forbid women from initiating divorce in any circumstance, or even addressing the council. Thus, by Korithian law, Wadaxes could not divorce his wife.
Wadaxes took out his frustrations on Otilia by insulting her, refusing to let her into bed, and even forbidding the slaves from feeding her. In time, this active abuse simmered into mutual loathing. Wadaxes would intentionally bring prostitutes home to dine, often in the presence of guests and important people, to humiliate Otilia. At other times, he would disappear for days without warning.
In one instance, Wadaxes found Otilia's collection of poems and musings and narrated these private thoughts to a room of drunken merchants and their wives. Only a poorly timed storm prevented her from running away that day.
Otilia endured these conditions for years until her father contracted a respiratory disease, which would ultimately be fatal. By this point, her husband had already chosen a new "wife," a mistress he kept in their home full-time. Seeing an opportunity to finally be rid of Otilia, Wadaxes planned to negotiate the divorce with the new patriarch of Otilia’s family, her younger brother Panatos.
Upon hearing this plan and learning of her father's declining health, Otilia devised a plot of her own. In an act of petty revenge, she forged a letter from her husband and used it to commandeer one of his ships and crew, sailing far away. By doing so, she denied Wadaxes the pleasure of giving her away and delayed his ability to remarry until she was found or declared dead or vanished, a process that could potentially take decades.
Her escape took her across the Green Sea to a place she had often heard about in stories and the markets of Kalmanati—the city of Labisa.
Appearance
Otilia is tall, standing about 5'5", which is notably above the average height of 5'0" for Korithian women. She has the typical olive skin and brown eyes of her people. Her most striking feature, however, is her auburn hair—a rarity south of Makora. This perceived exoticness made her highly desired by the bachelors of Kalmanati.
Personality
Otilia is a kind and caring person, eager and curious to learn new things. However, she is also prone to sarcasm, and her time learning from her father and observing his business dealings has cultivated a certain cunning and slyness in her. She possesses a keen understanding of people and knows how to use this to her advantage. Highly intelligent and well-read on a variety of topics, Otilia's blend of empathy, wit, and shrewdness makes her a formidable and complex individual.
Gender/Pronouns
Cis-woman She/Her
Sexual Orientation
Lesbian
Relationships
Otilia's relationship with her family is abyssmal. Her relationship with her "husband" is even worse. Upon first escaping she was worried that Wadaxes may send someone to find her. A fear which was quickly lessoned by time and the presence of Narul.
She acts in some sense as an adoptive partent to Ninma alongside Narul.
She is partners with the Kishite, Shela.

Excerpt
Someone sat at his other shoulder, and he looked, expecting to see Suru or Bira. But instead there sat the Korithian. “I haven’t had the chance to properly thank you.” Her Kishite was quite good though it had a sort of stiff formality to it. Her shoulders were pulled back, her spine painfully straight. Narul had seen these same kinds of mannerisms from the various aristocratic men and women who would visit Hutbari’s court from the lands to the west. She was tall and thin, her eyes sharp. Her auburn hair was disheveled, her curls tangled. “Oh, that’s fine.” Narul muttered. The Korithian frowned and turned to him. “It is not. I owe you. I do not know how this sort of thing works for you easterners, but for us, a debt like this is a very serious thing. My name is Otilia, and you're Naro, yes?” She looked at him quizzically. “Um, Narul.” He corrected. Otilia nodded, mouthing the word, trying to nail it into her mind. Narul against his better judgment turned to Otilia and asked. “So are you…meeting your husband somewhere?” Otilia looked at him, confused. “My husband?”Narul covered his mouth, mortified. “Oh I am so sorry, did he…you know?” “My husband is in Kalmanati. And I'm not in too much of a hurry to see him again.” Otilia chuckled.

Next Read
While the plan was to next read a book with a more diverse perspective than the works Suzanne Collins has referenced as influencing THG, I didn't get a lot of suggestions for the diverse read. So there is an option to stick with the books Suzanne has referenced if everyone would prefer that. Here is the last poll we did, to give an idea of the work we might read. As for the other books, descriptions of each book is under the cut if you're unfamiliar/want to read more about them.
Book descriptions below cut:
The Parable of the Sower: When global climate change and economic crises lead to social chaos in the early 2020s, California becomes full of dangers, from pervasive water shortage to masses of vagabonds who will do anything to live to see another day. Fifteen-year-old Lauren Olamina lives inside a gated community with her preacher father, family, and neighbors, sheltered from the surrounding anarchy. In a society where any vulnerability is a risk, she suffers from hyperempathy, a debilitating sensitivity to others' emotions.
Precocious and clear-eyed, Lauren must make her voice heard in order to protect her loved ones from the imminent disasters her small community stubbornly ignores. But what begins as a fight for survival soon leads to something much more: the birth of a new faith . . . and a startling vision of human destiny.
As Long As The Lemon Tree Grows: Salama Kassab was a pharmacy student when the cries for freedom broke out in Syria. She still had her parents and her big brother; she still had her home. She had a normal teenager’s life.
Now Salama volunteers at a hospital in Homs, helping the wounded who flood through the doors daily. Secretly, though, she is desperate to find a way out of her beloved country before her sister-in-law, Layla, gives birth. So desperate, that she has manifested a physical embodiment of her fear in the form of her imagined companion, Khawf, who haunts her every move in an effort to keep her safe.
But even with Khawf pressing her to leave, Salama is torn between her loyalty to her country and her conviction to survive. Salama must contend with bullets and bombs, military assaults, and her shifting sense of morality before she might finally breathe free. And when she crosses paths with the boy she was supposed to meet one fateful day, she starts to doubt her resolve in leaving home at all.
Soon, Salama must learn to see the events around her for what they truly are—not a war, but a revolution—and decide how she, too, will cry for Syria’s freedom.
These is my Words: A moving, exciting, and heartfelt American saga inspired by the author's own family memoirs, these words belong to Sarah Prine, a woman of spirit and fire who forges a full and remarkable existence in a harsh, unfamiliar frontier. Scrupulously recording her steps down the path Providence has set her upon—from child to determined young adult to loving mother—she shares the turbulent events, both joyous and tragic, that molded her, and recalls the enduring love with cavalry officer Captain Jack Elliot that gave her strength and purpose.
Braiding Sweetgrass: Drawing on her life as an indigenous scientist, and as a woman, Kimmerer shows how other living beings―asters and goldenrod, strawberries and squash, salamanders, algae, and sweetgrass―offer us gifts and lessons, even if we've forgotten how to hear their voices. In reflections that range from the creation of Turtle Island to the forces that threaten its flourishing today, she circles toward a central argument: that the awakening of ecological consciousness requires the acknowledgment and celebration of our reciprocal relationship with the rest of the living world. For only when we can hear the languages of other beings will we be capable of understanding the generosity of the earth, and learn to give our own gifts in return.

Hey there I just have a question about the Patreon stuff - I 100% agree with everything you said, I'm not too knowledgeable about some of the things Patreon has done. I know they want to get rid of first of the month and per creation billing, but WHY? Why do they hate it so much and want to get rid of it so badly??
hmmmm. i can't say i know for sure, but i can make some guesses. a lot of it seems like an unwillingness to problem-solve, honestly. there have been various excuses that i can remember-- one is that processing everything at the beginning of the month leads to all the Payment Processing Problems happening at once which, fair, understandable. hire more people, sorry patreon, you already made your bed on this and now you get to lie in it for the sake of the people that depend on it. another excuse they made during the fiasco in 2021 is that a lot of people sign up in the middle or toward the end of the month and think they've been "double charged" when the 1st of the next month rolls around, and they get charged again less than a month after they signed up. it apparently leads to a lot of customer service tickets. instead of implementing ANY features that would help patrons understand this better at signup, or allow patrons to delay payment until the 1st of the next month, they wanted to do away with 1st-of-the-month billing entirely. and like yes. this is a problem. chargebacks are bad. having to deal with a lot of help tickets at the same time every month is bad. but having worked customer service long enough: clarify your language and again, hire more people, sorry! bed made! lie in it!
with the apple thing... i kind of wonder if that's been an influence in the past and for how long. it feels like they are really insistent on changing their service's behavior to be more predictable to the average Netflix/Doordash/etc. subscriber or whatever. the rolling bill structure is the default for most stuff, and it does make sense to want to be predictable... but in general they really seem to think very little of the intelligence of patrons. which is an understandable consequence of dealing with any kind of customer service-- just statistically speaking you will encounter a lot of horses who cannot be made to drink or even led to any kind of water and it will make you think humanity is doomed. but it's weird that they're willing to trade out entire portions of their userbase for that predictability. i think some of this is also a venture-capital-driven desperate desire for wider appeal, which is the fall of every tech company at some point, i guess. the insistence that the apps no one likes are Extremely Important is what bolsters my belief that this is a misguided growth-chasing thing. like everyone else, they probably are trying to make line go up, and there's no room to be pleased with a sustainable niche in that equation.
i don't know if there are other mysterious under-the-hood reasons, like if it's gonna be better for them re: payment processing fees or something or if their processors or investors are giving them shit about it for some reason or another. it's likely there's something else they are, as usual, not being transparent about.
so yeah. it's not that i think Patreon would be easy to run. it's not that i don't see that there are some legit challenges here. but i do think they are strangely willing to give up and go straight to the most destructive solution rather than try to figure out how to make the thing work. i don't really know exactly what's going on more than anyone else does, i'm just looking for patterns.
also: i know you don't, anon, but if anyone's thinking i've been too harsh or that i'm too suspicious of patreon up-front here and am Probably Just Unpleasable... they do have a history of deceptive shit. it's been their thing for a looooong time to take secret polls only of select groups of users so they can say that their bad decisions are based on "user feedback". i actually got an email invite back in 2021 for a secret behind-the-scenes call that i'm sure they were just gonna use to try to justify some more shit. i declined and told them they should have learned by now to ask the whole community for input on big decisions, and i got a predictably dodgy answer. sigh. i wish they really cared about us.

The Future of Digital Advertising
In the ever-evolving landscape of digital marketing, staying ahead of the curve is paramount for businesses striving to remain competitive and relevant. As technology continues to advance and consumer behaviors evolve, new trends emerge, reshaping the digital marketing landscape. In this article, we'll explore some of the most prominent emerging trends in digital marketing and speculate on what the future holds for this dynamic industry.
1.Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning:
AI and machine learning have already made significant strides in revolutionizing digital marketing, and their influence is only expected to grow. AI-powered chatbots, personalized recommendation engines, and predictive analytics are just a few examples of how AI is transforming marketing strategies. In the future, we can anticipate even more sophisticated AI applications, such as predictive content creation, advanced customer segmentation, and dynamic pricing optimization.
2.Voice Search Optimization (VSO):
With the rising popularity of voice-activated devices and virtual assistants, voice search is poised to become a dominant force in digital marketing. Businesses will need to adapt their SEO strategies to accommodate natural language queries and conversational search patterns. Optimizing content for voice search, leveraging schema markup, and focusing on local SEO will be key tactics for brands looking to capitalize on this emerging trend.
3.Augmented Reality (AR) and Virtual Reality (VR):
AR and VR technologies have the potential to revolutionize the way consumers interact with brands and products. From immersive shopping experiences to virtual try-on features, AR and VR offer exciting opportunities for marketers to engage audiences in new and innovative ways. As these technologies become more accessible and mainstream, we can expect to see widespread adoption across various industries, including retail, entertainment, and tourism.
4.Interactive Content Experiences:
As consumers increasingly seek out interactive and engaging content, marketers are embracing interactive content formats such as quizzes, polls, calculators, and 360-degree videos. These interactive experiences not only capture users' attention but also provide valuable insights into their preferences and behaviors. Moving forward, we can anticipate the continued growth of interactive content as brands look for creative ways to stand out in a crowded digital landscape.
5.Privacy and Data Protection:
In light of increasing concerns about data privacy and security, consumers are becoming more cautious about sharing their personal information online. As a result, there is a growing emphasis on transparency, consent, and data protection in digital marketing practices. Brands that prioritize privacy and build trust with their audience will have a competitive advantage in the future, while those that neglect these considerations may face backlash and reputational damage.
6.Purpose-Driven Marketing:
Today's consumers expect more from brands than just products and services—they want to support companies that align with their values and beliefs. Purpose-driven marketing, which focuses on social responsibility, sustainability, and ethical business practices, is gaining traction as consumers seek out brands that make a positive impact on society and the environment. In the future, we can expect to see more brands integrating purpose-driven messaging into their marketing campaigns and corporate branding efforts.
In conclusion, the future of digital marketing is filled with exciting possibilities and opportunities for innovation. By embracing emerging trends such as AI, voice search optimization, AR/VR, interactive content, privacy protection, and purpose-driven marketing, businesses can position themselves for success in an increasingly competitive digital landscape. However, staying ahead of the curve requires continuous adaptation, experimentation, and a willingness to embrace change. As we look to the future, one thing is certain: the only constant in digital marketing is change.

Misinformation in Elections
In the context of elections, understanding misinformation is crucial for ensuring informed voter participation. This segment will explore the definitions of key terms, such as misinformation, disinformation, and malinformation, highlighting their distinct characteristics and implications. We will delve into the mechanisms through which misinformation spreads, including the influence of social media algorithms, the creation of echo chambers, and the role of traditional media outlets. By unpacking these concepts, voters will be better equipped to recognize the challenges posed by misinformation and its potential impact on the electoral process.
Misinformation, the media, and the role you're playing in both
The American Psychological Association Reports
Misinformation and disinformation
Misinformation is false or inaccurate information—getting the facts wrong. Disinformation is false information which is deliberately intended to mislead—intentionally misstating the facts.
The spread of misinformation and disinformation has affected our ability to improve public health, address climate change, maintain a stable democracy, and more. By providing valuable insight into how and why we are likely to believe misinformation and disinformation, psychological science can inform how we protect ourselves against its ill effects.Click Here to Read More
Brennan Center for Justice Reports
Election deniers are working to undermine confidence in our elections and suppress turnout, particularly among voters of color and other historically marginalized communities. The misinformation they propagate — including lies about the voting process and election workers — can have significant consequences for people’s ability to vote and trust in our elections.
These threats are especially perilous today. Since 2020, prominent politicians and candidates for election administration positions have amplified the Big Lie of a “stolen” presidential election. These falsehoods spread rapidly on social media, with platforms unwilling or unable to intervene, fueling threats to election systems.Click Here to Read More

Multiple Threats Converge to Heighten Disinformation Risks to 2024 Elections
In early December 2020, Ruby Freeman received an email: “We are coming for you and your family. Ms. Ruby, the safest place for you right now is in prison. Or you will swing from trees.”
Freeman had been a temporary poll worker in Fulton County, Georgia, in the 2020 election. Her daughter, Shaye Moss, was with her at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta, counting ballots as a county employee on the night of the election. Footage of the pair engaging in routine vote-counting procedures went viral after Rudy Giuliani and his legal team began to falsely claim it showed them conducting election fraud. As the lies about what happened that night in Atlanta spread on social media, Freeman and Moss were thrown into a firestorm. Racist, violent language arrived via letters, texts, phone calls, emails, social media messages, and even in person at each of their front doors.Click Here to Read More

Understanding Misinformation
Social media algorithms play a crucial role in amplifying false narratives by prioritizing sensational content that captures user engagement. These algorithms often lead to the creation of echo chambers, where users are exposed predominantly to viewpoints that align with their own beliefs, reinforcing misinformation. Additionally, traditional media outlets contribute to this issue by occasionally spreading unverified information or sensationalized stories, further blurring the lines between fact and fiction. Together, these mechanisms foster an environment where misinformation can thrive and influence public perception.

Fake News/Misinformation/Disinformation: What is Fake News?
The term "fake news" has been used increasingly in the last several years, but does not always refer to the same thing. Because false information can come in many shapes and forms, the term "fake news" can conjure up very different thoughts depending on the person using/hearing it and their own personal experiences. For the purposes of this guide we can define "fake news" as “purposefully crafted, sensational, emotionally charged, misleading or totally fabricated information that mimics the form of mainstream news” (Zimdars & McLeod, 2020). How and Why Does Misinformation Spread?
According to behavioral models, exposure to misinformation increases the odds that people will believe it, which in turn increases the odds that they will spread it. At the same time, people do not necessarily need to believe misinformation in order to spread it; people may share information they know is false to signal their political affiliation, disparage perceived opponents, or accrue social rewards. Psychological factors contribute significantly to this process: People are more likely to share misinformation when it aligns with personal identity or social norms, when it is novel, and when it elicits
strong emotions.Click Here to Read More
University of Victoria Reports
May 31, 2024
Advancing technology and growth in social media use contribute to the spread of fake news. In fact, research shows that false news often spreads faster than real news online. Regular users of social media are to blame for a lot of this spread, as they like, share, and otherwise engage with posts containing misinformation. See below for more on why we fall for fake news.
Online fake news can also be spread through bots. Ferrara et al.’s (2016) look at social bots describes a bot as “a computer algorithm that automatically produces content and interacts with humans on social media, trying to emulate and possibly alter their behavior.”Click Here to Read More

Key Examples of Misinformation in Elections
This section delves into notable instances of misinformation in elections, providing a comprehensive analysis of its impact and consequences. By exploring significant examples, the discussion highlights the implications of such misinformation for democracy and electoral integrity. Key cases will be examined to draw lessons learned and best practices for future elections, while also investigating the role of media and technology in shaping public perception. Through this examination, the section aims to illuminate the critical need for vigilance and informed engagement in the electoral process.
The Power of Deception
The 2016 U.S. Presidential Election was significantly impacted by various misinformation campaigns that influenced public opinion and voter behavior. False narratives, such as misleading claims about candidate endorsements and fabricated stories about criminal records, proliferated across social media platforms, creating confusion and mistrust among voters. Additionally, Russian interference efforts, which utilized bots and targeted advertisements, exacerbated political divisions and spread misleading information. These tactics not only shaped public perception but also raised concerns about the integrity of the electoral process, ultimately playing a crucial role in the election's outcome.
How fake news impacted the 2016 election
The American Economic Association Reports
American democracy has been repeatedly buffeted by changes in media technology. In the 19th century, cheap newsprint and improved presses allowed partisan newspapers to expand their reach dramatically. Many have argued that the effectiveness of the press as a check on power was significantly compromised as a result (for example, Kaplan 2002). In the 20th century, as radio and then television became dominant, observers worried that these new platforms would reduce substantive policy debates to sound bites, privilege charismatic or “telegenic” candidates over those who might have more ability to lead but are less polished, and concentrate power in the hands of a few large corporations (Lang and Lang 2002; Bagdikian 1983).
In the early 2000s, the growth of online news prompted a new set of concerns, among them that excess diversity of viewpoints would make it easier for like-minded citizens to form “echo chambers” or “filter bubbles” where they would be insulated from contrary perspectives (Sunstein 2001a, b, 2007; Pariser 2011). Most recently, the focus of concern has shifted to social media. Social media platforms such as Facebook have a dramatically different structure than previous media technologies. Content can be relayed among users with no significant third party filtering, fact-checking, or editorial judgment. An individual user with no track record or reputation can in some cases reach as many readers as Fox News, CNN, or the New York Times. Click Here to Read More

How Fake News Affected the 2016 Presidential Election
Of the known fake news stories that appeared in the three months before the election, those favoring Trump were shared a total of 30 million times on Facebook, while those favoring Clinton were shared 8 million times.
Just over half of average American adults who recall seeing fake news say they believed the stories
People are much more likely to believe stories that favor their preferred candidate, especially if they are ideologically segregated within social media networks
Social media was an important but not a dominant source of election news-- only 14% of Americans said social media was their “most important source”
In a 2015 Stanford University study of fake news articles and “civic online reasoning,” researchers found that over 30 percent of high school students said a fake Facebook account posting comments about then-candidate Trump were more reliable because of its graphic elements.
Only 25 percent recognized the significance of the blue checkmark on Twitter and Facebook that indicates an account is legitimate. More than 80 percent of the respondents were not able to recognize that an ad was sponsored content, or native advertising, and not a news story.
Native advertising is a type of advertising that matches the form and function of the platform on which it appears.

'Fake news' went viral in 2016. This expert studied who clicked
It’s one of the defining phrases to emerge the 2016 election. But before “fake news” became President Donald Trump’s favorite media-bashing epithet, the term referred to fake political news spread by dubious partisan sites for profit.
In the months leading up to the presidential election, news sites and Facebook pages attracted attention for producing wholly fictitious articles like “Pope Francis Shocks World, Endorses Donald Trump For President” that preyed on readers’ biases. In Macedonia, enterprising teenagers built a cottage industry of fake news sites that concocted phony scoops about President Obama and Hillary Clinton and then collected the ad revenue when they went viral among Trump supporters.Click Here to Read More

Fake news wasn’t the biggest media
problem of 2016
The Hidden Dangers
Misinformation in elections poses serious threats to democratic processes by eroding voter trust and influencing election outcomes. False claims and misleading narratives spread through social media and other platforms create confusion, leading many voters to question the integrity of electoral systems. This undermines confidence in democratic institutions and can result in lower voter turnout. Additionally, misinformation can shape voter behavior, sway undecided voters, and even suppress participation, ultimately distorting election results and undermining fair representation in democracy.

Misinformation is eroding the public’s confidence in democracy
Democracy in the United States is in serious trouble. A review of some recent public opinion research shows just how much.
For example, an NPR survey conducted earlier this year found that 64% of the American population believes that U.S. democracy is in crisis and is at risk of failing. A strong indication that the situation is getting worse and not better is that over 70% of respondents in that poll said that democracy is more at risk of failure now than it was a year ago.Click Here to Read More

Misinformation in action: Fake news exposure is linked to lower trust in media, higher trust in government when your side is in power
We collected data from U.S. respondents (N=3000) who participated in two survey waves conducted a month apart from each other. The surveys were sent out in late October and late November of 2018, shortly before and shortly after the U.S. midterm elections.
Participants were also asked to install a browser extension tracking their online behavior during the time period between the surveys. About 8% (N=227) of the respondents agreed.
The browsing history of participating respondents was used to evaluate their exposure to fake news sources and assess whether consuming misinformation was linked to changes in trust.
We found that fake news exposure was associated with a decline in mainstream media trust among respondents.
Our results also showed that fake news exposure was associated with an overall increase in political trust, and especially trust in congress and the justice system.
Upon examining that relationship more closely, we found that fake news consumption was linked to lower political trust, but only for strong liberals. For moderates and conservatives, fake news consumption predicted higher trust in political institutions.
Our findings confirm that the consequences of fake news cannot be examined in isolation. To effectively anticipate the implications of misinformation spread, research needs to consider the current media and political environment.

Electoral misinformation, where citizens believe false or misleading claims about the electoral process and electoral institutions—sometimes actively and strategically spread by political actors—is a challenge to public confidence in elections specifically and democracy more broadly. In this article, we analyze a combination of 42 million clicks in links and apps from behavioral tracking data of 2,200 internet users and a four-wave panel survey to investigate how different kinds of online news and media use relate to beliefs in electoral misinformation during a contentious political period—the 2022 Brazilian presidential elections. We find that, controlling for other factors, using news from legacy news media is associated with belief in fewer claims of electoral misinformation over time. We find null or inconsistent effects for using digital-born news media and various digital platforms, including Facebook and WhatsApp. Furthermore, we find that trust in news plays a significant role as a moderator. Belief in electoral misinformation, in turn, undermines trust in news. Overall, our findings document the important role of the news media as an institution in curbing electoral misinformation, even as they also underline the precarity of trust in news during contentious political periods.

A well-crafted personal brand can elevate an influencer’s status, attract collaboration opportunities, and establish a long-lasting presence in the industry. This blog will explore essential strategies for influencers to create a distinctive personal brand that resonates with their audience.
Understanding Personal Branding
Personal branding is the practice of marketing oneself and one’s career as a brand. It involves defining and consistently expressing one’s values, beliefs, and personality. For influencers, personal branding is about showcasing their uniqueness and making a memorable impression.
Why Personal Branding Matters for Influencers
Influencers with a strong personal brand enjoy several benefits, including:
Trust and Loyalty: A well-defined personal brand fosters trust and loyalty among followers, leading to a more engaged and dedicated audience.
Collaboration Opportunities: Brands are more likely to partner with influencers who have a clear and consistent personal brand.
Market Differentiation: In a crowded influencer market, a unique personal brand helps influencers stand out and remain memorable.
Steps to Craft a Unique Personal Brand
Define Your Core Values and Mission: Start by identifying your core values and mission. What do you stand for? What message do you want to convey? Your values and mission should align with your passions and resonate with your target audience.
Understand Your Audience: Understanding your audience is crucial for crafting a personal brand that resonates. Conduct research to learn about their interests, preferences, and pain points. Engage with your audience through comments, polls, and direct messages to gain insights and build a community.
Create a Consistent Visual Identity: Your visual identity includes your logo, color palette, typography, and overall aesthetic. Consistency in visuals helps create a cohesive and recognizable brand. Use tools like Canva or Adobe Spark to design professional-looking graphics that reflect your brand’s personality.
Develop Your Unique Voice: Your voice is how you communicate with your audience. It encompasses your tone, language, and style. Whether it’s witty, serious, or inspirational, ensure your voice is authentic and aligns with your personal brand.
Share Your Story: Storytelling is a powerful tool for personal branding. Share your journey, experiences, and behind-the-scenes moments to create a deeper connection with your audience. Authentic stories make you relatable and humanize your brand.
Be Authentic and Transparent: Authenticity and transparency are key to building trust. Be honest about your experiences, opinions, and endorsements. Avoid promoting products or services that don’t align with your values or that you don’t genuinely believe in.
Engage and Interact: Engagement is crucial for building a loyal community. Respond to comments, participate in discussions, and show appreciation for your followers. Regular interaction helps strengthen your relationship with your audience.
Leveraging PR and Social Media Agencies
Collaborating with PR and social media agencies can significantly enhance your personal branding efforts. These agencies offer expertise in brand strategy, content creation, and audience engagement. Digital Marketing in Business 2024: Trends, Strategies, and Opportunities
In 2024, digital marketing is more crucial than ever for businesses looking to thrive in an increasingly competitive and dynamic marketplace. The rapid evolution of technology, shifting consumer behaviors, and the expansion of digital platforms have made it imperative for businesses to stay ahead of the curve. This article explores the key trends, strategies, and opportunities in digital marketing for 2024.
Key Trends in Digital Marketing 2024
AI and Machine Learning Integration
Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning continue to revolutionize digital marketing. In 2024, AI-driven tools are not just enhancing personalization but are also optimizing content creation, customer service, and campaign management. AI algorithms analyze vast amounts of data to predict consumer behavior, allowing businesses to deliver highly targeted ads and content.
Rise of Voice Search and Smart Assistants
With the proliferation of smart speakers and voice-activated devices, voice search is becoming a dominant trend. Businesses must optimize their content for voice search, ensuring it aligns with the natural language used in queries. This involves focusing on long-tail keywords and conversational content to capture voice search traffic.
Personalization at Scale
Consumers in 2024 expect personalized experiences across all touchpoints. Advances in data analytics and AI allow businesses to deliver personalized content, offers, and recommendations at scale. Hyper-personalization, driven by real-time data, enhances customer engagement and loyalty.
Short-Form Video Content
The popularity of platforms like TikTok, Instagram Reels, and YouTube Shorts has solidified short-form video as a dominant content format. Brands are leveraging these platforms to create engaging, bite-sized content that captures attention quickly and drives higher engagement rates.
Sustainability and Ethical Marketing
Consumers are increasingly prioritizing sustainability and ethical considerations in their purchasing decisions. Businesses must incorporate these values into their digital marketing strategies, promoting eco-friendly practices, and showcasing their commitment to social responsibility.
Privacy and Data Protection
With growing concerns around data privacy, businesses must navigate stricter regulations like GDPR and CCPA. Transparency in data usage, robust security measures, and clear privacy policies are essential for maintaining consumer trust in 2024.
Effective Digital Marketing Strategies for 2024
Omnichannel Marketing
An omnichannel approach ensures a seamless and consistent experience across all digital and physical touchpoints. Businesses should integrate their online and offline channels, leveraging data to create cohesive customer journeys.
Content Marketing and Storytelling
High-quality, value-driven content remains at the heart of digital marketing. Storytelling is particularly powerful in 2024, as it helps brands connect emotionally with their audience. Whether through blogs, videos, podcasts, or social media posts, compelling stories can differentiate a brand in a crowded market.
Influencer Marketing Evolution
Influencer marketing is maturing, with a focus on micro and nano influencers who offer niche audiences and higher engagement rates. Authenticity is key, as consumers are more skeptical of overly commercialized influencer content. Businesses should seek long-term partnerships with influencers who genuinely align with their brand values.
SEO and Voice Search Optimization
Search engine optimization (SEO) remains vital, but with a twist. Optimizing for voice search requires a focus on natural language, question-based content, and featured snippets. In 2024, visual search is also on the rise, making image and video optimization essential.
Interactive and Immersive Content
Interactive content like quizzes, polls, and augmented reality (AR) experiences engage users and provide valuable data. Immersive technologies like virtual reality (VR) are becoming more accessible, offering innovative ways to engage customers and create memorable brand experiences.
Opportunities in Digital Marketing 2024
Global Market Expansion
Digital marketing allows businesses to reach global audiences with relative ease. In 2024, expanding into new markets through localized content, multilingual SEO, and region-specific campaigns presents significant growth opportunities.
Data-Driven Decision Making
The availability of big data and advanced analytics tools empowers businesses to make informed decisions. In 2024, leveraging data-driven insights for campaign optimization, customer segmentation, and predictive analytics will be a major competitive advantage.
Social Commerce
Social media platforms are increasingly integrating e-commerce features, allowing users to purchase products directly through social apps. This trend presents a lucrative opportunity for businesses to tap into the seamless shopping experiences that social commerce offers.
Sustainability and Green Marketing
As consumers demand more sustainable practices, businesses that prioritize eco-friendly initiatives can differentiate themselves and build brand loyalty. Green marketing strategies, such as promoting sustainable products and reducing carbon footprints, resonate strongly with modern consumers.
In 2024, top freelance digital marketing specialist are in high demand as businesses increasingly seek specialized skills and flexible solutions. These professionals bring expertise in areas like SEO, content marketing, social media management, and paid advertising. Freelancers offer businesses the ability to scale their marketing efforts efficiently, without the overhead of full-time employees. Their ability to stay current with industry trends and adapt quickly to new digital tools makes them invaluable partners for businesses looking to enhance their online presence and achieve measurable results. As remote work continues to thrive, the role of freelance digital marketers is more critical than ever.
Conclusion
Digital marketing in 2024 is marked by rapid technological advancements, evolving consumer expectations, and new opportunities for growth. Businesses that embrace AI, personalization, and sustainability, while also focusing on content quality and customer engagement, will be well-positioned to succeed. By staying agile and innovative, companies can leverage digital marketing to drive business growth and build lasting customer relationships in this ever-changing landscape.

1. AI-Powered Marketing
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a futuristic concept; it's here and transforming the way we approach marketing. From AI-driven content creation to advanced customer segmentation and predictive analytics, AI helps marketers deliver personalized experiences at scale. With the proliferation of smart speakers and voice-activated assistants, optimizing for voice search is becoming essential. In 2024, expect a greater emphasis on natural language processing and long-tail keywords that mimic everyday speech patterns. Businesses should focus on creating conversational content that directly answers users' queries.
3. Short-Form Video Content
Short-form videos, popularized by platforms like TikTok and Instagram Reels, continue to dominate. These bite-sized, engaging videos are perfect for capturing the attention of a time-poor audience.
