Need help growing Wildflowers
I got some Native Wildflower seeds from the city to support pollinators but the packet has a QR code for the instructions.
So annoying! Not everyone has a QR reader readily available to them.
I'll assume it's too late in the year to plant them anyway (It's July now).
Packet contains:
Common Milkweed
Lance-leaved Coreopsis
Sweet Joe Pye Weed
Sneezeweed
Sweet Ox-Eye
Evening Primrose
Grey-headed Coneflower
Stiff Goldenrod
Arrow-leaved Aster
Hoary Vervain

[A video is attached. Watch it?]
[The video begins with Illanero running into the Radio Tower of Goldenrod City, only to see a certain red-haired human arguing with a certain Rocket executive.
"If there's any shred left of the man who fed me when Giovanni left, then you'll let me through," Silver says, trying to look tough. "Otherwise, I'll...I'll make you."
"Hmmmm...sorry, can't do that," Proton says, shrugging. "Not even for the boss' kid. You're out of luck. Scram now, and I won't hurt you."
Silver hesitated, then tried to run past Proton, only to freeze as a knife was in his way. "You wouldn't..." he says, trying to hide the fear in his voice.
"Oh, but I would," Proton says, a sinister smirk on his face.
"Silver!" Illanero shouts, running towards the two.
Silver's eyes widen. "Don't-!"
"Oh, worried? Why should you be, when this is your lucky break?" Proton says, stepping away from Silver. "I've found someone I want to vivisect even more than you. Go on, Silver. Flee, climb, it won't change anything."
Illanero takes a step back, but before xey could flee farther, Proton's knife was to xyr neck.
"Well well well, look who's back," Proton says. "Think I forgot about you? I haven't. And this time, I'm not seeking a battle, or you to leave. This time...all I want is for you to spend some quality time with these knives of mine. Got any final words? Besides the screams you're about to make, of course."
Illanero's eyes are wide with terror. Silver takes a step away, towards the stairs upwards, but looks back at Illanero.
"I-" Illanero begins, before being cut off by Proton speaking again.
"Time's up!" Proton shouts, before Silver's fist collides with his head.
"Silver!" Illanero says, running towards xyr rival. "Thankyou!"
"Tch. You owe me later," Silver begins, only to stop talking once Proton puts one knife against his neck, and another knife against Illanero's neck.
"Well, didn't think you had it in you," Proton says, sneering. "But that's fine. I'll make you sorr-"
Before Proton could finish, a concentrated beam of energy hits Proton in the chest, as a caped human and a Dragonite arrive at the group.
"Lance!" Illanero says, breathing heavily. "Thankyou!"
"It's alright. Glad you're both unharmed," Lance says, before looking over at Proton, who was beginning to stir. "I'll hold him off. You both get out of here!"
Silver hesitates, then grabs Illanero by the hand, and runs towards the stairs. "Come on! This way!"
"Okok!" Illanero says, as xey run with Silver.
"Wait, not that way-" Lance begins, just before Proton lunges at him.
The video ends.]

ohhhh since you've been Bugsy posting, do you have any thoughts about him for your verse?
Outside of a pronouns change ( I believe I said they use they/them pronouns in my au but might change that to they/he?),not much atm! Though reblogging those bugsy posts got me thinking.
1) I genuinely did not know he stated he wanted to become a pokemon professor like Oak, which I think is amazing actually. I can already envision him and Beryl ( oc of mine) getting along great as researchers - especially with Beryl completing the pokedex. I think it would be cute if they formed a friendship.
2) Oh, technically this is something I've always thought: I've always seen him as the youngest of the Johto league: could never find an age that I exactly see him as. Either they're only barely older than Kenji and Aiko ( who's 10 during the HGSS stuff) or just in their early to mid-ish teens. But overall, I do see Bugsy as the youngest.
3) ^ following that point, I think he gets along well with everyone in the league - including Clair! Clair is a bit haughty, but I don't think she has it in her to really be her usual self around Bugsy's ever glowing enthusiasm and politeness. I think he's closest with Whitney and Falkner, by proxy that they are close by. Whitney more so bc Bugsy frequently goes to the bug catching contests.
4) in general, I want Bugsy and the other gym leaders in Johto to feel a bit more involved in the plot, especially given it's their region that's in danger (...."danger". Team Rocket isn't that threatening to me in the Johto stuff. Like....it's there, but the only person who's really reacting to them and doing anything about it is the player and Lance. Silver does shit lmao). It always struck me as odd that Bugsy didn't mention what TR was doing, so again he either wasn't there or he just doesn't care and I doubt it's that. When it comes to involving gym leaders, I get worried about "scaling", as in everything is handled by them and the protag doesn't get to protag ( and get traumatized lol we always gotta do that). But with Bugsy I'm realizing something. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the reason they have a metapod and kakuna during their gym battle is bc he was studying them right? Arguably his strongest pokemon would be his Scyther and even then, it's probably not enough to take on a bunch of grunts at once. So basically I'm saying he could get jumped lmao. Not to say he isn't a strong trainer - he is! I would Argue Bugsy is like. One of the Best bug type specialists around. I'm simply saying he was caught in a moment of being very unprepared. Or! It could have been as simple as him going " I can't risk leaving my post as a gym leader with team rocket around, could you go and handle this for me?".
So whether Bugsy was out doing research, got jumped, or simply asked the player to handle TR as he stays behind to look after his town,I do kinda see a semblance of self doubt in him? Especially with the first two options, I can see him feeling guilty for not being there/being strong enough or prepared enough to handle Team Rocket. God and I'm just realizing Bugsy is basically a prodigy - a gifted kid if you will. This pressure to perform at his best is probably weighing on him, only really overshadowed by the fact that they genuinely love bug types and researching them and just his general positive attitude. But ya know. He's a prodigy and probably has high expectations for himself, even if subconsciously.
Outside of what he could have been doing during the azalea town stuff in the Legendverse, I am not sure if he has further plot relevance. I can see him being called to Goldenrod bc he is one of the closest gym leaders in the area outside of Whitney - if there's still proper communications up, which I think there is. If I go with the " Bugsy got Jumped" route, then it would be a perfect time to show those rockets how powerful he really is~
But yeah! That's all I have for Bugsy, or at least what I can remember. Thanks for the ask, this was very fun!!

Since @normal-paldean-student did a Roleswap AU with Renee in Mare's place I wrote up a roleswap AU with Mare in Renee's place.
First big change: she doesn’t have Aura. Which is a problem because it means she can’t punch her way out of situations anymore. That means she has to get a lot better at battling. She also can’t heal. Which is fine cause her injuries go away when she goes to the next universe but does mean she can’t be as reckless about throwing herself into danger as she usually is.
Second big change: She starts with Crystal cause that’s the first game with a female player character option which also means she starts in New Bark Town instead of Goldenrod.
So, I’m gonna go through each gen individually and only cover mainline games because otherwise we’d be here all day and also I don’t have a lot of experience with a lot of the side-games. She went through those but I won’t talk about them. Also she still looks like herself just wearing different clothes. Also, also I’ll be calling this version Shifter Mare and the og version Auraverse Mare.
So, Crystal. Different town, same backstory except there’s no Norman to save them. Her mom encourages her to go on her Journey to get as far away from her father as possible. She doesn’t want to leave her mom but eventually agrees, promising to come back when she’s strong enough to face him. Her starter is a Cyndaquil.
She and Silver start off on the wrong foot when she just freaking decks him. This is, like, the only time engaging in physical violence actually works because it’s just really funny to me. What a first impression. They do eventually bond over having shitty dads and wanting to become stronger, though, and Silver’s probably one of her best friends of all time.
She takes beating the Pokemon League much more seriously than Auraverse Mare because that’s how she gets stronger. Eventually she beats Lance and kicks her dad’s ass (well, it’s more like she scares him away cause he has no Pokemon) then decides “Hey, that was fun, what if I did it again” and does the Kanto circuit before climbing Mt. Silver and defeating Red, something Auraverse Mare could never do. Climbing Mt. Silver really did a number on her though so as soon as the battle’s over she passes out…
…And wakes up in the back of a moving van. We’re in Ruby now. She’s a lot more hostile towards Norman in this timeline than even Auraverse Mare, partially because she just got force into a new timeline with zero warning and partially because, in her experience, dads are bad all the time. She, um, isn’t particularly nice to Professor Birch either but manages to hold it together long enough to get a Pokemon and Brendan (who she has a comparatively less hostile relationship with than Auraverse Mare because they don’t have the “We’re cousins so we gotta fight” attitude) seems happy enough.
She does have a bit of a crisis though because unlike Auraverse Mare, who put all her self-worth into being a hero, Shifter Mare put all her self-worth into being strong (Silver-type behavior, though she actually recognizes from the start that love and friendship works better than just using the strongest Pokemon like a tool) and without her Pokemon she’s not strong and if she’s not strong then what is she?
When she gets to Petalburg she is ecstatic at the idea of getting to battle Norman, who for his part is very confused as to why his daughter is suddenly acting hostile towards him and also doesn’t seem to know who he is, and when he sets the “you ned 4 gym badges to face me” condition she goes “Yeah, sure, I’ll do that, it’ll be more satisfying to beat you into the ground when I’m stronger anyways.” She also scares the shit out of Wally with how intense she is but they do eventually become friends and she’s quite fond of the kid.
She also bonds with Archie a bit. Not as much as Auraverse Mare but he likes her spunk and she likes his spirit. They beat Team Magma, she beats the Pokemon League, and gets to stick around long enough to take on the Battle Tower before being pulled away again.
Sapphire goes pretty similar. Shifter Mare’s less hostile towards Norman and Birch this time cause she’s figured out by now that maybe they’re not all that bad. She feels a little betrayed by Archie being the bad guy this time around even though she knows it’s an alternate universe so it’s not the same Archie. Bing bang boom, Emerald time.
At this point Shifter Mare’s growing pretty sick of this. Some mysterious unseen force refuses to let her get strong. Every time she reaches her peak she gets reset. But when she screams to the sky nothing answers so she’s forced to just go along with it.
It’s also worth noting at this point that Shifter Mare isn’t shy about the fact that she’s been traveling across universes. She’ll reference past adventures, mention things she should have no way of knowing about, and just say “I’m from an alternate universe.” This is really confusing for everyone else, who frequently question her sanity and also the fact that she finishes their sentences. Half the time she doesn’t even bother letting people finish their exposition, just cutting them off with “Yeah, I know already.”
Anyways, she’s mildly pleased to see that Emerald is more different than Ruby and Sapphire. Wallace being Champ instead of certified sopping wet cat Steven Stone is refreshing and the Battle Frontier is much more fun than the Battle Tower. But, unfortunately, it can’t last. Kanto’s next and Shifter Mare’s starting to think maybe she just wasn’t meant to be strong, maybe she was supposed to be weak and powerless and friendless forever. But if she’s supposed to be weak and powerless what else is there for her.
Anyway, Fire Red. Shifter Mare feels weird about this one because she knows this one and she knows it’s not supposed to be her story. To her, this is Red’s story. Blue is Red’s rival. Pallet Town is Red’s home. She’s not supposed to be here.
She does find a new purpose, though. If this is the past (technically) maybe she can find Silver and save him from his father. It wouldn’t be her Silver but it would be a Silver. And, hey, she kind of owed it to him to try.
So she goes through the Kanto League, unnerved the whole way through, but no matter how hard she searched she couldn’t find Silver. Even after she became Champion and had all of the League’s resources at her disposal she couldn’t find him. Not that she got much time to search because she got sucked into another world not long after becoming Champ.
Take two, Leaf Green. For the first time and last time, Mare goes off-script. No Gym Challenge, only searching for Silver. And it has disastrous consequences. Though Mare is making herself quite the nuisance to them in her search for Silver, because she’s not following the main plot route, Team Rocket achieve all their goals and thus gain total domination over the Kanto region, just their first step on their way to conquering the world. And it was all for nothing too because she never finds Silver.
Next world! Diamond! Uh, Mare’s not doing too hot. She was just indirectly responsible for so much suffering. And she can’t talk to anybody about it because nobody would know what she was talking about. Plus she keeps losing her support network. So she makes a resolution to never allow anything like that to happen again. From now on, if anybody was suffering it was her duty to put a stop to it. That was the only way she would ever be worth anything and the only way to atone for what she’d done. There’s the Savior Complex. Took a while but we got there.
Aside from that, the new universe was pretty nice. She thought Barry was a bit annoying and she didn’t like the dress she had to wear (were there no clothing shops in Sinnoh?) but it was nice. Though she couldn’t help but be on edge, expecting something bad to happen at any moment. And she wasn’t wrong to be. Team Galactic was on the scene and they were far more threatening than any foe she’d faced in the past. The amount of suffering they caused and the Pokemon they abused infuriated Mare, who tore through their ranks with her Pokemon, completing the gym challenge along the way so she could use HMs. Why were there so many HMs in this universe?
Pearl was pretty much the same story but Platinum was different. Whereas in the previous two adventures she’d basically been speedrunning, here she slowed down a bit. This was her third run and she was kinda tired. This meant that she actually listened when Cyrus explained his motivations and it also meant that she saw how much pain he was in. Before she’d seen him as just a big bad guy she needed to beat but he had clearly suffered in the past. She tried to reason with him several times throughout her adventure but it ultimately didn’t work and he tried to go through with the plan anyways. It still taught her a valuable lesson, though: bad guys are people too. Oh, also people seemed a lot more willing to consider her alternate dimension story than usual. Well, Cynthia and Cyrus were, at least. Doing research into Sinnoh history makes you a bit more open to the possibility.
Heart Gold is next. It wasn’t really that traumatizing compared to the others but it was weird being back in Johto. It was all so familiar but also very, very different. Her father was nowhere in sight, there’s this guy called Ethan hanging around, and there was a Battle Frontier apparently (that was exciting). Most notable, though, was this universe had a Silver and they started off on a really weird note because the moment Mare saw him she broke down crying and hugged him as tight as she could while apologizing so much. Which was weird for him because this wasn’t her Silver and he had absolutely no idea who she was.
Other than that it and Soul Silver were pretty standard affairs. Mare tried her best to put Silver on the right path but never quite had the same friendship with him as she had with her Silver. She may have cried… a lot. She actually freaked Whitney out by crying after winning the Gym Battle because that’s what she was supposed to do, not the Challenger.
After that nice little breather, we’re back on the heavy stuff. Black is next. She has a… complex relationship with N. She can see where he’s coming from and understands not wanting to see Pokemon suffer but she also thinks he’s a hypocrite for claiming to want to set Pokemon free yet also using them in battle. Even if the Pokemon do agree to it he’s still having them do the work instead of defending his ideals himself. She also decks him at least once.
In White she treats N with a lot more sympathy, knowing his whole situation and relating to it. The first thing she does upon meeting this version of him is give him a hug and promise to get him out of this which he doesn’t really understand. She actually manages to form a genuine friendship with him because she’s the first person besides his sisters to treat him with legit compassion and not see him solely as a tool, a king, or an enemy.
Black 2 and White 2 are weird. She was used to alternate versions of her friends but it was weird seeing Cheren and Bianca 2 years older than her while she hadn’t aged a day. It was also kind of depressing because they’d moved on to new things while she was still doing the same thing because she had too. Everyone else could move forward, she was stuck in the same cycle forever.
In other news, Hugh worried her significantly because he reminded her of Silver just with not terrible parents. His only desire was to get stronger to fight Team Plasma and it seemed like he was willing to go to any length to do it. His heart was in the right place but his head wasn’t. She made sure to keep a close eye on him and try her best to set make sure he doesn’t do something stupid that he’ll regret. Also I’m taking creative liberty and Ghetsis is killed by Black/White Kyurem in this version because I think it’s poetic that he’s killed by the beast he created and was foolish enough to think he could control, thus falling victim to his own hubris.
Pokemon X. She’s kinda surprised that she has this large friend group now. Usually she’s got one or two rivals and that’s it. It’s kind of nice cause it’s something she’s never really had before. Mega Evolution gives her quite the shock as well as the Fairy Type being a thing now. She thinks it’s all very cool. Name a more iconic duo than Mare and a Mega Lucario.
She pegs Lysandre as a bad guy immediately because she’s heard his rhetoric before from other villains and tries to alert somebody too it but everyone kind of dismisses her except for her friends. So with no adults to rely on (as usual, tbh) they’re forced to deal with this themselves. Also Mare hates Xerosic with a passion for what he did to Emma. Pokemon Y is more or less the same with the exception that she tries (and fails) to get into the Geosenge Base. Oh, also Mare is terrible at fashion. Like, just the worst.
ORAS. Oh I’ve been excited to get here. The first Region Mare ever shifted too. But unlike with Heart Gold and Soul Silver’s Johto, the Hoenn of Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire is very different from the one she knew. It was still familiar but at every turn she ran into something different. The people looked different, the cities looked different. A lot of the major events were still the same and yet they were so different. It was almost disorienting, going through the same events and yet not being able to predict what would happen next. But hey, at least she finally got her iconic ribbon.
She also falls in love for the first time. Shifter Mare finally gets to meet Zinnia and cannot handle the flirting. In Omega Ruby, Zinnia takes off before she has time to actually sort through these feelings but in Alpha Sapphire they actually manage to start a relationship… which doesn’t last long because Mare shifts again. Womp womp.
Sun is another entry in the “Your parent is terrible, I am going to be your friend now.” saga. As soon as Mare figures out what’s going on with Lillie and Gladion and their mom (she has her suspicions from the start that they’ve got something going on with their parent but she doesn’t know it’s Lusamine specifically until the reveal) she makes it her mission to ensure their safety. She also feels for Guzma and Team Skull and while at first she dismisses them as kind of silly by the end she actually has a lot of respect for them.
The Post-Game, though, that’s where things get real interesting. Because Anabel is a faller, making her the first person Mare’s ever met who has also gone through interdimensional travel. And she has no idea she even did it because her memory is gone. Mare’s not entirely sure how to respond to the whole thing and neither are Looker, Nanu, and Anabel who certainly hadn’t been expecting to meet a girl who had traveled to several dimensions. The whole thing gets very messy very fast.
Also Mare meets Red and Blue and is really unsure about what to think of the fact that they’re in their 30s and she’s still a teenager.
When Moon rolls around she befriends Lillie immediately, though this is still Mare so her aggressive and boisterous personality can be a bit much for her at times. Gladion is resistant but does eventually form a begrudging friendship, guess you can’t win over every Silver-coded rival. She also treats Team Skull like people instead of jokes and tries her best to get others to do the same.
I’ll be up front, I don’t know what happens in Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon outside of the fact that Lusamine is kind of sort of a good guy but Mare’s suspicious of her the whole time. I do know what happens in the Rainbow Rocket Post Game, though. Remember that one world Mare accidentally screwed over by going off script? Well that Giovanni has discovered interdimensional travel. So, uh, this one’s kind of on Mare. Anyways, she beats him, he taunts her about how she never found Silver, time to move on.
Sword and Shield… is pretty by the book, honestly. Mare is extremely frustrated that Leon refuses to let her get involved in any way until the very end but other than that nothing remarkable happens. I didn’t play the DLC so I don’t know what happened there so… moving on.
Finally, Scarlet and Violet. Because putting Mare in a school is a good idea. She gets in trouble basically immediately but is let off the hook cause its her first day and Director Clavell’s nice like that. In regards to her friends, she bonds with Nemona over their shared love of battling, she deduces that Penny is Cassiopeia but doesn’t say anything (she also does not deduce that totally radical and regular student Clive is actually Director Clavell because I think that’s hilarious), and the moment she meets Arven she’s like “Yeah, I think we should punch your parents in the face.”
She’s actually kind of on edge the whole time, actually, because the whole thing is so low level. No world ending catastrophes, no large scale criminal organizations. The stakes weren’t necessarily low, the life of Arven’s Mabosstiff was very much in danger, but it wasn’t the same “everyone’s gonna die” stakes she was used to. She was almost glad when they had to face off against AI Turo/Sada and destroy a dangerous time machine.
And, uh, that’s it. She’s kind of in the same position as Renee, waiting for the cycle to repeat once again.

Your versions of the johto protags are so special to me. All I can imagine is them hanging out together at a picnic bench or something. Kris details all of her latest battles in the tower that she thought were AWESOME and she’s waving her hands around describing it and making funny sound effects. Lyra excitedly tells the stories of her latest challengers and pokeathelon wins and oh it was all so exciting!! Silver complains about Clair and Lance and generally everything that’s inconveniencing him and throws playful jabs in while the others are sharing. Gold is spotted walking by and when asked what he’s been up to, says “I met God” and then leaves without explaining.
EXACTLYYYYY EXACTLY YOU GET ME. they're all hanging out in the national park or the goldenrod city department store or something maybe celebrating kris' 100th win in a row as the battle tower leader maybe celebrating lyra's latest pokéathlon win or her latest challengers at the indigo plateau or even just getting together to get together. yknow. something to drag silver's scrawny little ass out of the dragon's den to get some sunlight and fresh air. and they're chilling and having a good time and all of a sudden gold just drops the "i met god" bombshell on them and just leaves without explaining. he shows up again two months later with a StaryuBucks in hand and when pressed STILL refuses to explain the whole god situation but goes into great detail about the weird little freak of a former champion he met on top of mt silver. all of this with his usual resting bitch face expression btw that's the most important part

Solidago Gigantea, also known as tall goldenrod is a perennial herb that reaches heights of 6.6 ft tall. It is a widespread species and most typically found in North America, east of the Rocky Mountains. A fun fact is that an herbal tea can be made with the flowers.
Brown Knapweed is a species of herbaceous perennial plants and is typically found in dry meadows and open woodland throughout Europe and North America. It flowers mainly from June to September. A fun fact is that it can grow in disturbed sunny areas, such as road ditches and woodland clearings.
Lance-Leaved Aster is a species of flowering plant native to North America. It can be found in mostly moist and open habitats, such as riparian areas, meadows and ditches. A fun fact is that “aster” in Greek means “star”, and they are a part of the daisy family.

Dug out one of the areas the Canada goldenrod had planted itself in, which is a very bad spot for such an aggressive plant. Ended up with like an armload of rhizomes. Took one piece and transplanted it to the area I had initially planned for that species, but the one I ordered ended up being an aster of unknown species. I cut the shoots off the rest and will be eating them. Still have to grab the rest growing in the other area. Got all the weeds and garbage out of the front, and cut off and chopped of the dead bits. These will disappear as birds and squirrels take them to build their nests, but for now it’s a natural mulch. I didn’t have time for the side or the back, but I’ll do the side at least tomorrow. I did however take look through to see what’s coming up!
And so far, of the 172 plants I have planted (and I have 72 more on the way, starting mid-May!), the following are showing signs of life or even leafing out: *EDITED TO ADD THOSE I NOTICED TODAY (DAY AFTER POSTING)*
001. Achillea millefolium (yarrow) 3rd year! 002. Adiantum pedatum (maidenhair fern) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 003. Agastache foeniculum (anise hyssop) 4th year! 004. Agastache scrophulariifolia (purple giant hyssop) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 005. Allium canadense (Canada garlic) 5th year! 006. Allium cernuum (nodding onion) 5th year! 007. Allium schoenoprasum (chives) 4th year! 008. Allium stellatum (pink onion) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 009. Allium tricoccum (ramps) 3rd year! 010. Amelanchier canadensis (Canadian serviceberry) 4th year! But still too young for fruit. 011. Anaphalis margaritacea (pearly everlasting) 5th year! 012. Andromeda polifolia (bog rosemary) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 013. Aquilegia brevistyla (smallflower columbine) 4th year! 014. Aquilegia canadensis (eastern red columbine) 5th year! 015. Arabis alpina (alpine rockcress) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! The first one I attempted was extremely root-bound coming out the pot and sadly did not survive the winter, but this one did! 016. Argentina anserina (silverweed) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 017. Armeria maritima (Thrift seapink) 3rd year! 018. Aronia melanocarpa (black chokeberry) 3rd year! But still too young for fruit. 019. Artemisia ludoviciana (white sage) 3rd year! It was supposed to be A. frigida, but...it’s not. lol Thankfully it’s not too aggressive so far. 020. Aruncus dioicus (bride’s feathers) 3rd year! 021. Asarum canadense (Canada ginger) 4th year! 022. Asclepias incarnata (swamp milkweed) 4th year! 023. Asclepias sullivanti (prairie milkweed) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 024. Asclepias syriaca (common milkweed) 3rd year! 025. Asimina triloba (pawpaw) 5th year! But still too young for fruit. 026. Asplenium trichomanes (maidenhair spleenwort) 3rd year! 027. Athyrium felix-femina (lady fern) 3rd year! 028. Caltha palustris (marsh marigold) 3rd year! 029. Campanula rotundifolia (harebell) 5th year! 030. Cardamine concenata (cutleaf toothwort) Came out of dormancy for it’s 1st year! 031. Castilleja miniata (giant red paintbrush) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! It’s a parasitic plant, so I planted it at the stone line so it could feed off the grass, and close to the sunchokes so it can feed off them too, plus there are cedar roots from the trees by the well, and I’ve just transplanted Canada goldenrod nearby so I think it will be okay! 032. Ceanothus americanus (New Jersey tea) 3rd year! 033. Cerastium arvense (field chickweed) 4th year! 034. Cercis canadensis (eastern redbud) 4th year! But still too young for flowers. 035. Clinopodium arkansanum (wild savoury) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 036. Comptonia peregrina (Sweetfern) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 037. Coreopsis lanceolata (lance-leaved tickseed) 3rd year! 038. Cornus canadensis (bunchberry) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! The squirrels did not dig it up this time! 039. Cornus florida (flowering dogwood) 3rd year! But still too young for flowers. 040. Cystopteris bulbifera (berry bladder fern) 3rd year! 041. Dalea purpurea (purple prairie clover) 042. Drymocallis arguta (prairie cinquefoil) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 043. Echinacea purpurea (purple coneflower) 5th year! 044. Erigeron glabellus var. pubescens (streamside fleabane) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! I put it in a very narrow ugly side area. Should help to pretty it up along with black-eyed susan and whatever else I think will go nicely there. 045. Erythronium americanum (trout lily) 3rd year! And not only that but despite not flowering and my not seeing any dropper stems last year, the thing has somehow spread itself. I have no idea how I missed the number of droppers that would have been necessary to make this happen but I’m not complaining. Be nice if one of them flowered this year though. 046. Eupatorium purpureum (sweet Joe Pye weed) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 047. Fragaria vesca (woodland strawberry) 3rd year! Mine has white strawberries. Apparently that can happen with this species. Still taste like strawberries. I hope it makes lots this year. 048. Fragaria virginiana (Virginia strawberry) 3rd year! Would be awesome if it made more than flowers this year though. 049. Galium boreale (northern bedstraw) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! My first attempt died. Probably because it was potted too long and planted too late. 050. Gaultheria procumbens (American wintergreen) 4th year! It’s not doing the greatest, likely due to how root-bound it was when I got it, but it’s been hanging on. I’m getting it a friend this year, so hopefully that will help. 051. Geranium maculatum (wild geranium) 4th year! 052. Geranium robertianum (herb Robert) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 053. Geum aleppicum (yellow avens) 4th year at least! I don’t know for sure, because it was already here when I moved in. It’s native so it gets to stay. 054. Geum canadense (white avens) 4th year at least! I don’t know for sure, because it was already here when I moved in. It’s native so it gets to stay. 055. Geum rivale (purple avens) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 056. Geum triflorum (prairie smoke) 5th year! 057. Grindelia squarrosa (curly cup gumweed) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 058. Helianthus nuttallii (common tall sunflower) 4th year! 059. Heliopsis helianthoides (false sunflower) 3rd year! 060. Heuchera richardsonii (prairie alumroot) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 061. Hibiscus moscheutos (swamp rose mallow) 4th year! And coming up early this year, too! 062. Hierochloe odorata (sweetgrass) 5th year! It flowered two years ago. I hope it does again this year. 063. Humulus lupulus (Hop) 3rd year! The current shoots are likely to die though Last year I swear they died five times before it finally took off but eventually it did and had a whole growing year. I expect the same this year. 064. Hydrophyllum virginianum (Virginia waterleaf) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 065. Juglans nigra (black walnut) Likely somewhere around 150 years old, judging by the size. I obviously didn’t plant it, but it is on the property so it’s mine while I live here. 066. Juniperus horizontalis (creeping juniper) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 067. Liatris spicata (dense blazing star) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 068. Lilium michiganense (Michigan lily) 4th year! 069. Lindera benzoin (spicebush) 5th year and flowering! 070. Linum lewisii (blue flax) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 071. Lysimachia ciliolata (fringed loosestrife) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 072. Mahonia repens (creeping Oregon grape) 3rd year! 073. Maianthemum stellata (starry false Solomon’s seal) 3rd year! 074. Mentha arvensis (wild mint) 4th year! 075. Monarda fistulosa (wild bergamot) 5th year! 079. Monarda punctata (spotted beebalm) 3rd year! And coming in much quicker than last year. 080. Oenothera biennis (evening primrose) Seeded! I had thought my previous plant’s seeds hadn’t taken when no new plants had come up that year, but there are a couple this year close to the area I had it in, so it looks to have successfully reseeded itself after all! 081. Oenothera fruticosa (narrow-leaved sundrops) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! And this species is perennial rather than biennial like its cousin. 082. Oligoneuron rigida (Stiff goldenrod) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 083. Onoclea sensibilis (Sensitive fern) 3rd year! I’m hoping the meadow sundrops, cup plant, and zigzag goldenrod will help shield it this year. They like part sun/part shade, but the past couple summers were still pretty hard on it. 084. Opuntia fragilis (fragile prickly pear) 4th year! The spring rains are always hard on it, though, and it takes at least a couple weeks in the heat of late spring to recover, so I don’t think it will produce fruit any time soon, certainly not this year. 085. Opuntia humifusa (eastern prickly pear) 3rd year! It did not like this winter though (took the one before it like a champ, though), but it’s showing signs of recovery. 086. Osmundastrum cinnamomea (cinnamon fern) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 087. Oxalis stricta (yellow wood sorrel) Successfully reseeded! I mean, it basically grows as a weed, so it’s quite prolific. Doesn’t really have an effect on surrounding plants, though, and it’s delicate, so it’s good to have a ton of them if you want to cook desserts or make jams or something with them. They are deliciously tart. 088. Parthenocissus quinquefolia (Virginia creeper) 4th year! Might be older though. It was tiny when I got here (much bigger now!) but I didn’t plant it so I couldn’t judge its years based on size. 089. Phlox divaricata (woodland phlox) 3rd year! 090. Polygonatum biflorum (smooth Solomon’s seal) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 091. Polystichum acrostichoides (Christmas fern) 3rd year! 092. Prunella vulgaris (common selfheal) I didn’t plant it so I don’t know how long it’s been here. We’ll call it year 5, but it is native and a pretty little thing, with edible and medicinal uses. 093. Prunus nigra (Canada plum) 3rd year! But still too young for fruit. 094. Prunus pumila (sand cherry) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 095. Prunus serotina (black cherry) 4th year! But still too young for fruit. 096. Pycnanthemum tenuifolium (slender mountain mint) 4th year! 097. Pycnanthemum virginianum (Virginia mountain mint) 4th year! 098. Rhus aromatica (fragrant sumac) 5th year! 099. Rosa blanda (smooth rose) 4th year! Maybe it will bloom this year. 100. Rubus occidentalis (black raspberry) 5th year! This was supposed to be R. strigosus but...I discovered otherwise when the berries turned black instead of remaining red. lol 101. Rubus strigosus (American red raspberry) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! And is hopefully actually R. strigosus this time. lol Pretty sure it’s not R. occidentalis again, though, because it’s much more aggressive. 102. Sambucus canadensis (common elderberry) 5th year! Hopefully this year it makes more berries and they don’t all fall off before turning ripe this time. 103. Silphium perfoliatum (cup plant) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 104. Sisyrinchium montanum (blue-eyed grass) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 105. Solidago canadensis (Canada goldenrod) This is its 3rd year since planting itself! We’ll see how it likes the new area I put it in. 106. Solidago flexicaulis (zigzag goldenrod) 3rd year since planting itself! 107. Solidago nemoralis (grey goldenrod) 3rd year! 108. Solidago simplex (spike goldenrod) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! First one I tried died. Maybe wasn’t getting enough sunlight. 109. Spiraea alba (white meadowsweet) 5th year! 110. Sporobolus heterolepis (prairie dropseed) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 111. Symphoricarpos occidentalis (western snowberry) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 112. Symphoricarpos orbiculatus (coralberry) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 113. Symphyotrichum ciliolatum (fringed blue aster) 4th year! 114. Symphyotrichum laeve (smooth aster) 4th year! And spreading where it shouldn’t. Going to try eating the shoots. 115. Symphyotrichum lanceolatum (panicled aster) 4th year! And I’m going to have to do something about those shoots too because that’s getting a little crazy. 116. Symphyotrichum novae-angliae (New England aster) 3rd year! 117. Thalictrum pubescens (tall meadow-rue) 118. Thuja occidentalis (eastern white cedar) Likely around 20 years old or so. There’s a row of them next to a wall. Mine while I live here. 119. Tradescantia ohiensis (Ohio spiderwort) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 120. Trillium erectum (red trillium) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 121. Trillium flexipes (nodding wake-robin) 3rd year! 122. Trillium grandiflorum (great white trillium) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 123. Urtica gracilis (stinging nettle) 4th year since it planted itself in my garden at the old place and I took it with me to the new place! 124. Vaccinium angustifolium (lowbush blueberry) 5th year! Not doing well, though. I have to figure out a different spot for it. 125. Vaccinium corymbosom (northern highbush blueberry) 5th year! Last year I had to transplant it because it did not like the spot it was in. Hopefully it does better in its new home. 126. Verbena hastata (blue vervain) 3rd year! 127. Verbena stricta (hoary vervain) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 128. Viburnum lentago (nannyberry) 4th year! But still too young for fruit. 129. Viburnum nudum cassinoides (witherod viburnum) 4th year! But still too young for fruit. 130. Viola blanda (sweet white violet) 4th year! 131. Viola canadensis (Canada violet) 4th year! 132. Viola labradorica (Labrador violet) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 133. Viola nephrophylla (northern bog violet) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 134. Viola palustris (marsh violet) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 135. Vitis riparia (riverbank grape) 3rd year! 136. Waldsteinia fragarioides (barren strawberry) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 137. Zizia aptera (heart-leaved alexanders) Survived its first winter into 2nd year! 138. Zizia aurea (golden alexanders) 4th year!
So most but it’s still early and I wasn’t looking super hard in the side and front areas, so we’ll see how many more will join us this year.

Funny habit headcanons for all the Pokemon Gen 2 gym leaders, especially Morty and Jasmine, pretty please? Like do they perpetually leave cupboards open or chronically drop things? I need to know for science
Oh man I love thinking about tiny things lmao
Falkner is used to having a few tiny bird Pokémon fluttering around him at all times, and he’s constantly handing them small things to hold in their talons, since he only has two hands— if he’s trying to carry maybe a bag of groceries and a bag of fast food, he’ll hand them whichever bag is smallest as they fly along after him. Because of that, sometimes he’ll turn around and drop things in midair, because he was expecting his Pokémon to be there to catch it.
Bugsy has a habit of leaving food on his plate after he eats, because his bug Pokémon will swarm all over it. Usually they’re there right as he finishes his meals, but occasionally they take awhile, and he forgets to put his dishes in the sink.
Whitney is permanently tracking mud everywhere. She plays baseball, and she’s constantly out roughhousing with her Pokémon, so she’s always covered in dirt and grime; given that her Pokémon tend to be of a caring nature, she’s gotten used to them cleaning up after her and forgets to do it herself.
Morty, after spending his post-school years doing even more studying, has developed the habit of writing absolutely everything down. He uses tons of post-its, and his walls at home are covered in everything from reminders to bring his pokégear when he goes out, to conspiracy theories about local legends.
Chuck has a habit of yelling everything he says. He was already a pretty boisterous man, but then he decided to remodel his gym, and now he spends all his time training under a roaring waterfall— he has to yell to be heard while he’s at work, and so now he’s just always at top volume.
Jasmine hums, loudly, but it’s never a proper tune. Her Magnemite are constantly letting out an electric buzzing sound just by nature of what they are, and she noticed one day that they seemed to use it to communicate with each other; when she repeated the noise back to them, they were both thrilled, and she just never stopped.
Pryce taps on things with his cane, for whatever reason. He uses it a lot while gesturing during conversation, and it’s just become habit to tap it against things— or, occasionally, people. This started because he’d push around toys for his Pokémon when they were babies, and given that he always has his cane around, he doesn’t really think about it anymore.
Clair originally used a whip for Pokémon training. Now she uses it just because she forgets she’s still carrying it. She’s gonna get herself banned from the Goldenrod department store soon— she tries to point at things and ends up slinging the whip around, nearly knocking items off shelves. She’s had to call Lance more than once to help her pay for things she’s broken.

Eastern Daisy Fleabane
Find:fields, roadsides, disturbed sites, in a variety of soils but competes best in poor soils.
Description:growing from 2 to 4 feet high, with many leaves and long spreading hairs (without glands) on the stem. Near the top of the stem hair may be flattened. The stem usually branches below the floral array. The stem also has shallow vertical ridges. The leaves are both basal and stem. Basal leaves are lanceolate (broadest just below the middle) to ovate in shape, with winged stalks, usually with teeth and the surface usually sparsely hairy. These wither away at flowering time. The stem leaves are alternate, more narrowly lance-like to oblong. Stem leaves usually have sharp teeth, until the inflorescence, in which they will have entire margins. Stem leaves are without stalks but do not clasp the stem and the leaf edges have white hair. The floral array is a loose cluster of several to many stalked flowers atop the stem, usually more than 5 flower heads. Flower stalks have hair.
Edible Parts and uses:Leaves of fleabane are cooked (they can be eaten raw, but cooking will remove the small hairs on the leaves and stems) and served along other greens. Sources claim the leaves taste similar to spinach.
Precautions:no real precautions.
Canada goldenrod
Find:This yellow plant can be found in moist locations, forests, fields, roadsides, compost piles, cultivated fields, and orchards.
Description:Tall, leafy, finely hairy stem has tiny yellow flower heads on arching branches in a long or flat-topped cluster at top.3-6 ft.There can be wide variations in characteristics, but generally, goldenrod leaves are about 10 cm long and 2 cm wide, tapering to a point at the tip and narrowing at the base, with no leaf stem and small teeth around the edges. Three veins run parallel from near the base of the leaf. The underside of the leaf is hairy, especially along the veins and the upper side has a rough texture.
Edible Parts and uses:All aerial parts of the plant can be used. The flowers are edible and make attractive garnishes on salads. Flowers and leaves (fresh or dried) are used to make tea. Leaves can be cooked like spinach or added to soups, stews or casseroles, and can also be blanched and frozen for later use in soups, stews, or stir fry throughout the winter or spring.
Precautions:no real precautions.
Giant goldenrod

Hear me out, SSS Miraculous Ladybug AU?
oh man you guys have no idea how much I’ve thought about an au like this before
The anon is new, but this has been in the inbox for a while, I’m so sorry it’s taken me so long! Also this kind of takes a general understanding of the show to make any sense!
This is just a HUGE bundle of ideas lmao I’m sorry it’s so disorganized. I’ll put some of the doodles up here and put in a read more for all of my bullet points (I wrote almost 2K words for this hhhh)
No Pokémon in this AU, and I’m not clever enough to shape the Miraculous after any of them lol.
I think Lance being the Guardian of the Miraculous fits the most.
Lyra becomes the Ladybug Miraculous holder the same way Marinette does, by showing and acting upon her compassion towards someone in need (not the same exact way, considering Lance isn’t nearly as old as Master Fu; she probably saves an old man and Lance notices).
In this AU’s origins I think it would make sense that Giovanni and Silver just moved to Goldenrod from Kanto. Giovanni (obviously) was a part of the crime-world, but found out about the Miraculous and their power, got ahold of the Cat and Butterfly Miraculous, learned of the Ladybug Miraculous’ general location, then decided moving was a good idea. They move into a place like the Agreste mansion (Silver thinks the move is just random btw).
I would say Giovanni holds Silver to high standards like Gabriel does for Adrien. Giovanni has Silver play the Violin and Cello (READ FVAWA!!!), and was probably homeschooled in Kanto. I’ll also say he probably has basic self defense training.
To blend in, Silver becomes enrolled at the same school that Lyra, Kris, and Ethan attend.
Lyra, Kris, and Ethan always try to yoink the back two tables, and every new seating chart the three play Rock Paper Scissors, loser sits alone. Lyra loses and ends up at the table next to the other two with an empty seat.
Their teacher, Professor Elm (I mean, who else would it be?? There’s Oak ofc but eh), introduces Silver to the class and has him sit with Lyra.
It’s obvious to Lyra that Silver is more socially reserved, but she introduces herself anyway.
Lyra moved from New Bark Town to Goldenrod City early in her childhood (Her and Ethan were childhood friends, Ethan moved to Goldenrod a little before Silver. Kris grew up in Goldenrod). I think it would be cool to keep the Bakery; Lyra’s mom would work there with Lyra helping out a lot.
I’m thinking Lyra could possibly be a model like Adrien, but wayyy on the DL in comparison. She has the right temperament for being in the spotlight (aka not being a flustered mess all the time), hence why she’s so well suited for the Miraculous.
Her passion is writing! Writing poems, speeches, music, all of it. And she enjoys public speaking. She’ll pull out a notebook (or just type on her phone like a sane person) whenever she gets a new idea.
Lyra sings and plays the synth. She plays songs she writes sometimes!
Tikki helps Lyra a lot with her worries about being a Superhero, and is great at giving suggestions and ideas of what Lyra should write if she has a block. Basically usual Tikki being great.
When the first Akuma appeared, Lyra found her Miraculous the same way Marinette did. The difference is when Tikki appeared she was less fearful, and learned about de-evilizing Akumas from the start.
When Ladybug showsed up to stop the Akuma there was no other support. She was able to defeat the Akuma, but damn, what a workout.
Hear me out here, what if there wasn’t an umbrella scene? I’d rather have their feelings for each other grow over time as Silver begins to doubt his father’s reasons for needing the Ladybug Miraculous and reflects on his actions. Besides, Lyra having feelings for Silver in the beginning would be kinda cringe 😬 (@Marinette in the PV smh)
The first Akuma was Giovanni’s way of testing the waters, and confirms that the Ladybug Miraculous is in Goldenrod. The night afterwards he approaches Silver with the Cat Miraculous. Giovanni explains that he needs the Ladybug Miraculous along with the Cat Miraculous to bring Silver’s mother back (which is total bullshit, all he wants is power), and offers him the Miraculous.
And about Silver’s mother; I know there’s a theory about Ariana being his mom, but in this AU (and in general, really) I HC his mother being kindhearted and not part of the mob ahah. (Also same sitch as Adrien’s mom in this AU)
Silver is apprehensive towards the “offer”, but can he really say no? And he does want to see his mom again. So he accepts. Giovanni barely hides the vile smirk on his face and throws in a “I’m proud of you, son” for good measure :/
From then on, Cat Noir shows up to battle Ladybug after an Akuma is de-evilized.
Plagg is somewhere between neutral and good. He’ll (not-so) subtly suggest that Silver should join Ladybug, and point out how much of a dick Giovanni is… but he won’t actively try to stop him because he can’t really do anything about it anyways. Plagg supposes he’ll just have to be patient. And he teases Silver about anything and everything, and his reactions are priceless.
Already having no partner to rely on during Akuma battles, Ladybug is most definitely tired out and has far too many close calls in her battles with Cat Noir. Lyra vents about this to Tikki, and worries about being unable to contact the guardian and request more help.
Lance realizes his mistake after a particularly nasty fight when a stroke of luck saves Ladybug from de-transforming. He introduces himself right after that fight, and apologizes for his oversight.
At this moment I don’t know if it would make more sense to introduce only one more Miraculous holder or two, and if they should be permanent or temporary. I’ll put down my bare-bones ideas for the Miraculous holders anyways.
Ethan - Fox Miraculous, Kris - Turtle Miraculous. I see Kris suiting the Turtle Miraculous because she waits for the right moment instead of jumping right in. I see her as being a great protector compared to Ethan.
Sheesh this is already super long any I haven’t really gotten to the SSS portion
Slow burn like the show, but in this case neither has a crush for a whiiiile. That part is quite different from the show, but the context is not the same.
Eventually there’s a semblance of a friendship between Lyra and Silver. They got close through sitting at the same table in class and working on different projects together. They also find they both share a love of music.
Anyways, Lyra gets really excited about their friendship and prattles on about it to Tikki.
“Wow, it almost sounds like you like him!”
“Whaaaaat? No!!! He’s just a friend, Tikki!” (Nice Adrien impression, Lyra 😃)
Along the way Silver begins questioning Giovanni’s reasons more and more, but it’s difficult for him to decide whether to keep fighting Ladybug or not because of all the things that could happen.
Eventually Plagg sits him down and is like:
“You don’t want to fight Ladybug.”
“Right.”
“You have a friend (Lyra) who has made it clear to you that you are welcome in their home, so you would have somewhere to stay if Gio-bitch kicks you out.”
“Right.”
“Ladybug may not trust you at first, but if you explain yourself she may begin to understand, and the act of switching sides paves the path to redemption.”
“Right.”
“So SWITCH SIDES.”
“OH. OKAY.”
Then there’s the ol’ switcheroo. During the worst Akuma yet (with Kris and Ethan helping as heroes), Cat Noir is able to get close to the Akuma and Cataclysms the Akumatized object. He flees immediately, thinking it better to show loyalty in small increments pffff
It’s a HUGE shocker to Giovanni. And Ladybug for that matter. Silver already packed a bag and had his violin ready to go, he grabs his things and doesn’t bother staying. He’s a little pissed Giovanni didn’t even try to stop him.
At this point Lyra and Silver like each other, but neither know how the other feels. Silver feels SO awkward about showing up at the Bakery with his stuff and almost turns around when Lyra’s mom (who had a bad vibe about Giovanni in the first place) spots him.
“Do you need a place to stay?”
“...No.”
“You’re lying. Tell me what happened.”
Silver reluctantly explains that he couldn’t stand staying there anymore, and that he had had enough of his father’s shit. So he left.
Lyra’s mom is a bit iffy on letting him stay. Without enough context it seems like Silver is just angry with Giovanni. Silver can tell she doesn’t understand and tries to explain the situation more.
“I… betrayed him. In a way. I’m sure he doesn’t want to see me around for a while.” “I understand. Feel free to stay the night, but you should talk to your father about whatever’s going on tomorrow. If he doesn’t let you back in you’re welcome to stay.”
Lyra shows up moments after, very confused. Her mom explains the gist to her and leaves them alone to talk.
Tikki overhears Silver explain the situation with a bit more detail and becomes suspicious. If Giovanni was Hawkmoth and Silver was Cat Noir, this situation would make a lot of sense. And Silver has the same hair color as Cat Noir (Lyra is obviously none the wiser because Adrien and Marinette be like that). Tikki doesn’t draw solid conclusions (it’s very easily just a coincidence) but she takes a mental note.
I think that’s where I’ll leave it. I’m already delving into so much plot skdjfbfb Anyways here’s a bunch of bonus drawings for sticking til the end!

“Get Me.”
Drabble Me
-Original Open-
(Leave a “Get Me” in my ask, and I will write a drabble about my character saving yours.)
“Stupid bitch, this is why you handle things with tact and control, but noooo he had to go in trying to be a hero fucking soloing the thing like an idiot!”
Karen was curing out her boss while ripping down the road on her bike. Anything that wasn’t alive was run over by her wheeler, and everything that was alive was getting out of the way. All of her mutterings weren’t getting her anywhere of course although did help her vent some before she got there. Despite the bumpiness of the ride she could feel Drake’s poke ball shaking at her side. He wasn’t able to come out to calm her down though he could feel her tension even in his ball.
A loud rip of an explosion in the air overpowered her angry venting, and on a dime she turned the bike towards it. Two flights of stairs later she was in the Goldenrod tunnel heading towards the warehouse. Sounds of a fire fight were coming from below which she steered towards. The first thing to catch her eye upon coming in was the stacked boxes ahead with rocket grunts hiding behind. If their back was facing her then that could only mean that Lance was ahead of them. Likely he would be cornered as well since from her knowledge there was only one way in this place. As multiple faces turned to her to see what the sound of a motor was she threw two poke balls forward.
“Haze and chaos!”
She shouted to the pokemon. Her Murrow without hesitation let loose a cloud of smoke from his mouth while her weavile took to town on letting loose as it attacked various people and pokemon with whatever move was available. Karen kept her helmet on as coughing and screams of confusion erupted behind her. Slowing just slightly she leapt, and rolled off the bike to let it careen into two more of the grunts.
Now on her feet Karen started to run deeper in about to drop another two poke balls to have her houndoom and umbreon search for Lance. However another pokemon took charge of that as Karen heard the distinct call of a dragontite. Flipping out two of her blades she charged forwards following the call. On the other side of the smoke cloud was the rest of the battle. There were at least five pokemon fighting the dragonite with their trainers trying to figure out what to target at this point. Karen didn’t give them the time to think as she put the knives in one hand to drop two more poke balls.
“Snap.”
She called watching the two pokemon lunge forward. That order meant one thing, be as violent as you want everyone here is a maximum threat. The two were following that order as Garnet pinned down one person going for vital areas, and Drake thrust himself in the middle of the pokemon battle. Karen made her way through with little resistance after slashing and kicking an attacking raticate out of the way. Chaos continued behind her as she rounded the corner of a box to find Lance.
Crouching behind the boxes with him she kept one knife hand as she took it in. He was wearing a Rocket uniform, likely having tried to infiltrate, but he was currently covered in a dozen or so scratches and cuts along with being paler than normal. The cause of his sheet white form was obvious once she the hand he hand pressed against his leg.
“Don’t talk you’ll waste energy.”
She cut in before he even got to open his mouth. A deep sigh came out of it though as his tired eyes watched her look him over. As for her eyes there wasn’t any emotion behind them just empty sheets of glass only focused on the task at hand. It was always off putting but the crimson that currently was splattered across her only added to the unnerving look she wore.
“How am I supposed to explain myself though? I know you’re mad, I had better start justifying-”
“I said shut up Lance, you’re loosing alot of blood. Talking will waste energy, and I know you don’t have much of that because you just tried to take on an entire Rocket base solo.”
She snapped, some emotion returning to her face at the end there. On the positive side she had brought a med kit, and the big one that she had to take out of a backpack. pouring alcohol on a rag she gave him no warning before moving his hand to press it onto his leg. A hiss escaped his mouth as she did this, and he leaned his head back against the wood.
“Look I told you I’d handle Rocket while you handled the rest of the crime, so no I didn’t call you-”
“Fuck that rule when it’s an entire base! You’re not invincible, and that rule is flexible depending on how big of a bust you’re trying to make!”
“Oh I’m not invincible!? You’re the one who comes home-”
“We have been over this, and-”
“Let me finish, you come back at random times every so often with a broken bone, or multiple, bruises and cuts and say that it was a routine thing! I know I put you over criminal activity but you barely even work with the police to do anything, and you’re shady about what you do-”
“Can we talk about this some other-”“No because this is a good point, a- wait....it’s quiet.”
Both of them went from yelling furry to dead silence as Lance noted this. It was silent, horribly so and the two of them simply stared at each other. Karen’s anger sizzled back into it’s jar to be bottled up as the blank stare resurfaced, and mission mode began again.
“That’s either a bad sign or a good one. You’re staying here, and keep pressure on that.”
She directed standing up with her knives back in hand.

Electric Light Show
Chapter 2 to “Travelling with the Sun and Moon”
Index
It had been about a month since the incident in Goldenrod City. Aquamarine was now resting at home with her mother and their Pokemon. Pursuit and Radar were able to heal from their injuries, though the two would have lingering scars that would most likely never leave. Aquamarine was still feeling a bit bad, for she had left abruptly after her mother and her fought only to welcome her back with open arms. She did what she could in the meantime to try and repay her mother for her kindness until she was ready to travel again. She ran errands for her while she was at the Kimono Girls rehearsals, travelled to Olivine City and the nearby dairy farm to pick up goods with her mother’s Rapidash, and helped care for her mother’s Pokemon that stayed home while she was out of the house.
It was a simple enough life, though she could never see herself follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a Kimono Girl herself. Not after what she had done. While she was in Olivine City, she saw a pamphlet at the Pokemon Center there advertising a sail from Johto to Hoenn that was at a relatively good discount to trainers. She pocketed the pamphlet and returned home, pondering the thought of travelling to a new region. Having a new start…
That evening, she talked with her mother a bit about travelling over to Hoenn. Her mother, at first, was cautious about the trip and warned her about possibly not wanting to travel again so soon. After a few minutes of debate, they settled on Aquamarine travelling over there for a few days but when she returned, she would have to take on the rest of the gym leaders in Johto.
Determined to face this new region, she packed up her bag and gathered her team for this mini adventure.
Within a few hours thanks to the advances in sailing technology, Aquamarine took her first steps on Hoenn soil in Slateport. Hoping to make the most of her trip, she checked in at the Pokemon Center before starting to explore the large coastal town. She started in the marketplace, examining the different berries and goods that Johto didn’t have and wondered what the various berries were used for.
As she chatted up one of the sellers, Pursuit began to wander a little. The different smells were interesting and there were so many Pokemon he didn’t recognize, except for a couple Rattata here and there. Pursuit drifted a bit further until he saw a group of Pokemon around the edges of the town. They seemed to be training, battling against each other to hone their skills. One of the Pokemon was an old Mightyena that seemed to be watching over the smaller ‘mons when Pursuit walked up. The younger canine stood proud, wanting to be trained as well but was turned away since he smelled like humans. Pursuit was persistent though, standing his ground since he only wished to share his battling skill with the wild ‘mons.
His persistence was noted and the Mightyena paired him with a young Electrike. The two started to play fight, the slightly younger canine seemed to favor dodging and using his speed against the slower Houndour, and by the time Radar had tracked Pursuit down they had become close friends. They ended their session with a harmonized howl before they parted ways, a bond formed between them that would be hard to break.
The following day, Aquamarine and Pursuit went and watched their first Pokemon Contest. On the stage, they saw various coordinators and Pokemon perform beautiful feats of elegance, power, and bonds. Seeing the synchronization between trainer and Pokemon left Aquamarine feeling inspired, wanting to take that inspiration and using it when she returned to Johto in a couple days.
Those days went by quickly as the team trained on the beach with some sailors and explored the rest of the town. On their last evening before travelling back, Pursuit met up with the Electrike he met earlier in the week and explored the city at night. They chased Wingull and enjoyed some free berries before Pursuit had to tell him that he had to leave. While their time together was enjoyable, he could not stay in Slateport since he had to be with his trainer. The following morning, the Electrike watched their new friend leave on the boat…
When Aquamarine returned to Johto, her and her team set out to conquer the gyms. It was tough getting back into the battling scene, but the three managed to find their groove once more once they had managed to gain some new friends. It took them about a year to cover all of the ground and train up for the increasingly tough battles, but through their teamwork they had managed to make it all the way to the Elite Four. After their grueling fight through the four leaders, she found herself facing the Dragon Tamer Lance.
While she had never fought the man before, she had heard stories from fellow grunts while in training and it was easy to say that they had not exaggerated his power. She had some difficulty facing his cousin Clair, but she was nothing compared to the ferocity of Lance’s Pokemon. She was practically swept aside and a bit disheartened by how easily he had beaten her until the Champion admired her for making it as far as she did. With the blow to her pride softened, she left the Elite Four and Champion with a new respect for the titles the five had earned and made her way back to Hoenn.
Just over a year since she had first set foot on the land, Pursuit and Aquamarine travel back to Hoenn to make their name in the region. As soon as they landed in Slateport, though, Pursuit leads his trainer off the ship and towards the edge of the city. With a howl, the Houndoom calls out in search of his friend but there was no response. Worried, Pursuit looks around frantically until finally there is a howl in return coming from the nearby tall grass before a small, green canine walks out nervously. Pursuit was overjoyed to see his old friend, but the Electrike seemed nervous still despite seeing his friend. Pursuit had forgotten he had evolved and changed since they last saw each other, leaving the older canine flustered and soon laying down to show he didn’t want to hurt the Electrike.
Aquamarine helped by backing up so she wasn’t as much of a threat, allowing the Electrike to get used to seeing his friend again. Once the two had warmed back up to each other, the Electrike was running circles around Pursuit and nuzzling against him. It wasn’t until Aquamarine called Pursuit to go check in to the Pokemon Center did the happiness waiver once more, the Electrike saddened by not being able to see his friend for awhile again. That is, until he was offered to join them on their adventure. Though the electric canine was hesitant, the Electrike could not bear to be alone again and joined the team.
With their new friend, the adventure in Hoenn had begun. With Pursuit and Trike, as he was named, they travelled across Hoenn and the two canines became quite the duo. While they were a pair in battle, Trike became a star on the stage when it came to contests. He was a natural showman and enjoyed showing off his skill to the masses. His fur was silky and gave off a natural glimmer with his electricity, it was little surprise that they quickly rose in the ranks to become contest champions in Lilycove City. Their signature combo, Dash and Flash, became a feared set while in the battle portions since Trike was quick on his paws. It was such an effective move, though, the combo was used during their final fight against the region’s Champion, Wallace, and his Milotic as their finishing move.
Becoming Champion both in Contests and Battles, Aquamarine felt this was just the start and would soon travel on to Sinnoh with Pursuit and Trike… and beyond.

can you give us the names of each region's gym leaders in your au with some explanation about them...
[This content is out of date and no longer canon]
These aren’t fully set in stone so one or two might change in the future, and the details on just how some of them ended up Gym Leaders is still unknown, but here’s a general outline! (Sorry, the World page section on the Gym Leaders isn’t up to date. I’ll get on that.)Kanto Gym LeadersForrest Nibi (Pewter City, Rock-type Specialist)→ Brock gives the Gym to Forrest when he decides to pursue pokémon medicine.Peony Hanada (Cerulean City, Electric-type Specialist)→ Originally, Misty left the Gym to Daisy when she moved to the Orange Islands, but neither of Daisy’s children were interested in being the next Gym leader when she decided to retire. Violet’s daughter, Peony, on the other hand, loved battling and was the best candidate. She breaks the pattern of the previous Cerulean Gym Leaders by being an electric-type specialist like her father, however.Adriana Mitler (Vermillion City, Water-type Specialist)→ With Peony running the Cerulean Gym and Heather up to…. something, Lt. Surge had to look outside his daughters for successors. While I’m still not sure exactly how Adriana ends up running the Gym, she does have a connection to the Lieutenant, being his step-niece.Erika Tamamushi (Celadon City, Grass-type Specialist)Kestrel Sekichiku (Fuschia City, Poison-type Specialist)→ After Janine’s death, Koga comes out of retirement to take over being Gym Leader until his eldest granddaughter comes of age. Kestrel sees being Gym Leader as a chore more than anything and often has to be bribed to be there.Amaryllis Tokiwa (Saffron City, Fairy-type Specialist)→ After Sabrina leaves Kanto to pursue acting, her Gym is in…. someone’s hands (not sure yet). Eventually, Amaryllis ends up inheriting it and becomes Kanto’s first fairy-type Gym Leader..Kaito Mikami (Cinnabar Island, Psychic-type Specialist) → Having originally lived on the island many years ago, when Blaine retires, he asks his granddaughter-in-law’s cousin to take over the Gym, much to Kaito’s surprise. He also helps with the rebuilding efforts for the island.Mimi Aoyama (Viridian City, Multi-type Specialist) → When Gary retires to pursue research, it’s no question who will inherit the Gym, since he’d been training Mimi as his successor for a while. She follows in her husband’s footsteps and doesn’t stick to one type of pokémon, using the same team she traveled with on her pokémon journey.Johto RegionLyra Suzuki (Violet City, Flying-type Specialist)→ While the details are still shaky, Lyra inherits the Gym from Falkner when he moves to Kanto due to his marriage with Janine.Bugsy Hiwada (Azalea Town, Bug-type Specialist)Whitney Kogane (Goldenrod City, Normal-type Specialist) Karen Yoshino (Cherrygrove City, Dark-type Specialist) → Following Pryce’s retirement, Karen left the Elite Four to pursue her dream of opening a Gym in her hometown.Yuusuke Hasumi (Ecruteak City, Ghost-type Specialist)→ He inherits from his father, Morty.Chuck Sawada (Cianwood City, Fighting-type Specialist)Jasmine Asagi (Olivine City, Steel-type Specialist)Draco Fusube (Blackthorn City, Dragon-type Specialist)→ It is a bit of a tradition that the head of the Mikami-Fusube joint clans is the Blackthorn Gym Leader. The head of clan title switches between the two clans each generation, so while Clair was the previous clan head, Lance’s son Draco is the next one. Hoenn RegionRudy Jiang (Rustboro City, Rock-type Specialist) → He inherits from his mother, Roxanne. His twin sister inherits their father’s Gym.Safir Jiang (Dewford Town, Fighting-type Specialist) → She inherits from her father, Brawly. Her twin brother inherits their mothers Gym.Theo Heath (Mauville City, Fairy-type Specialist)→ Details are still unclear but he inherits when Wattson retires, most likely.Caleb Moore (Lavaridge Town, Fire-type Specialist)→ Inherits from his mother, Flannery.Wally Birch-Fang (Petalburg City, Multi-type Specialist) → Norman recommended Wally as his successor, much to Wally’s surprise, since May was busy being a Frontier Brain and Max was more interested in studying under Prof Birch. Winona Lu (Fortree City, Flying-type Specialist) Laelia & Trias Jin (Mossdeep City, Psychic-type Specialists) → They inherit from their father, Tate.Lisia Lu (Sootopolis City, Dragon-type Specialist) → She changes gears from coordinating to battling and takes over the Gym from her uncle Wallace when he becomes Hoenn Champion.Sinnoh RegionRoark Subotin (Oreburgh City, Rock-type Specialist) Gardenia Kobyakova (Eterna City, Grass-type Specialist) Natalia Rebreanu (Veilstone City, Steel-type Specialist)→ Maylene leaves the Gym in her hands when she becomes an Elite Four member.Crasher Wake (Pastoria City, Water-type Specialist)Ceres Severnaya (Hearthome City, Poison-type Specialist)→ Fantina befriended Ceres when the girl took an interest in coordinating while she studyed in Hearthome. When Fantina decided to retire to pursue coordinating full time, she named Ceres as her successor. Challengers have to complete math puzzles to reach her.Maisy Chistyakova (Canalave City, Dark-type Specialist)→ Byron heard about her through fellow Gym Leader Volkner, as Maisy is his niece. She apprenticed under him and he liked her spunk enough to name her his successor. She’s done…. interesting things to the Canalave Gym decor, in usual Maisy fashion.Candice Nakamura (Snowpoint City, Ice-type Specialist) Volkner Tatarintsev (Sunnyshore City, Electric-type Specialist) Unova RegionCheren Rysinov (Aspertia City, Normal-type Specialist) Roxie Helias (Virbank City, Poison-type Specialist) Gabriele Campanula (Castelia City, Ground-type Specialist) → He thought his father’s old job of being a Gym Leader sounded fun, so when Burgh retired to focus on his art, Gabe got himself into the position of next Gym Leader through some dubious methods.Elesa Tatarintseva (Nimbasa City, Electric-type Specialist)Stephan Dunstan (Driftveil City, Fighting-type Specialist) → Details are still unclear on how he inherits from Clay.Jerrie Vidales (Mistralton City, Steel-type Specialist) → Inherits from her mother, Skyla. The Gym still has an airplane theme to it since Jerrie loves planes so much.Marlon Naryshkina (Humilau City, Water-type Specialist) Noah, Micah & Terah Pendragon (Opelucid City, Dragon-type Specialists)→ As Drayden’s eldest grandchildren, the triplets are the natural choice for his (and Iris’) successors, though Iris’ eldest, Cypress, is gunning for the position as well. Kalos RegionViola Leroux (Santalune City, Bug-type Specialist) Grant Leroux (Cyllage City, Rock-type Specialist) Chili von Schwan (Shalour City, Ghost-type Specialist)→ He takes over the Gym when his wife, Korrina, becomes an Elite Four member. His Gym is themed like a magic show, with Chili as the master of illusion and his ghost pokémon as his assistants.Mairin Sycamore (Coumarine City, Grass-type Specialist)→ She inherits from her grandfather, Ramos.Clemont Brassard (Lumiose City, Electric-type Specialist) Sawyer Sheng (Laverre City, Multi-type Specialist) → Details are still unclear but he inherits when Valerie moves to Kanto.Azariah Arcelus (Anistar City, Dark-type Specialist) → I have no idea how he ends up here, but that’s just how it is with Azariah really.Evelyn de Beauvilliers (Snowbelle City, Water-type Specialist)→ I’m also still not sure on the details, but she takes over from Wulfric through some series of events.

Silence: Part Three
An anti-Galra nanoweapon leaves Keith ill and Shiro badly injured. It’s up to Lance and Allura to find them, take care of them, and get them home safe and sound.
(Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 4 | AO3)
“—re not going back. Not yet. N-not without… the ingredients.”
“Are you kidding? Shiro, you can barely breathe. Your heart could give out any minute!”
“Thousands more will die... without the flowers.”
“The flowers can wait!”
“No. They c-can’t.”
Allura blinks her heavy eyelids open. A spectrum of pinks and blues dances in her vision, sharpening into crystals. There’s a furnace pressed against her, restricting her movement—Keith. And the two bickering, Shiro and Lance.
Disentangling herself from Keith’s arms, she pushes herself up into a seated position.
“Morning, Princess. How’re you feeling?” Lance asks.
“Much more rested, thank you,” she says. Her limbs are still heavy and she’s a touch lightheaded, but she should have enough energy to carry Shiro. “We can get going now.”
“Great!” Lance says. “Back to the city it is, then.”
“No,” Shiro says, firmly.
“We can go back and get the ingredients later,” Lance says. “You’re more important. Besides, they’re the ones who did this to you in the first place!”
“Lance.”
“I know, I know, we should still help them,” Lance says. “I’m just… I’m just worried. Not just for you, but Keith too. His fever’s getting worse. …Are you really gonna put his life in jeopardy too?”
It’s a fair point, and an unfair question.
Shiro grits his teeth, a pained expression falling over his face as he’s crushed by the weight of the decision. The shake in his exhale has nothing to do with the state of his lungs. Still, he doesn’t back down. “Thousands of people’s lives… are at stake. We put our own lives… on the line every day… to help others. This is no different. K-Keith wouldn’t want his life… put first.”
Lance scoffs. “He’d risk his own life, maybe. But not yours. Never yours.”
“For that many,” Shiro says, “he’d know what… the right choice is.”
“Yeah, he would. And it wouldn’t be what you’re suggesting,” Lance says. “We can ask him. We should wake him up and get going anyway.” He reaches over and gently shakes Keith’s shoulder, eliciting a little mumble. Bleary eyes flutter open.
“Hey, man,” Lance says, softly. “I wish we didn’t have to wake you up, but we gotta get moving. Shiro’s in trouble. He’s not doing too good. We should go back to the city and get him help right away, don’t you think?”
“Of course,” Keith says, struggling to push himself up. Allura gives him a hand.
“Keith,” Shiro says, “I’m okay. We need to—to get the atraxeth first. Remember? Thousands of Ferexians… are counting on us.”
“Oh,” Keith says. “Right.”
“But we can go back and get that later,” Lance says. “We should get Shiro to safety first, right?”
“No,” Shiro says, “Don’t… worry about me, Keith. I’m… f-fine.”
Lance scoffs. “Does he sound fine to you?”
“Thousands of lives… are at risk,” Shiro says. “Other people are dying… as we s-speak. We can’t just… leave them to die.”
“But don’t you want to save Shiro?”
Keith’s glassy eyes are wide, torn.
“That’s enough. Both of you,” Allura chastises.
Keith tugs on her arm, looking away. “I—I can’t—“
“It’s alright,” Allura says, as gently as possible. She pulls him in against her and gives Lance and Shiro a stern look from over his shoulder. “We will search for the ingredients for another half varga. If we do not find them within that time, we will cease our search and return to the city. Is that clear?”
“Fine,” Shiro says.
“Yes ma’am,” Lance says. “Alright. Let’s get you guys back into your armour.” He grabs Keith’s white and red cuirass, bringing it over.
“Can do it myself,” Keith mutters, trying to put his boots on but fumbling with the clasps.
“Sure, but it’ll be faster with two of us,” Lance says, patiently. Keith doesn’t protest further.
Releasing Keith, Allura heads over to help Shiro. It’s a bit tricky getting the armour back on when he can’t stand, having to lift him to get the pieces underneath. Before bringing him to a seated position, she presses her ear to his scarred chest, the top of his undersuit now in strips around his arm. His heartbeat is still erratic, fainter than it should be.
“See? St-still beating,” Shiro says. “Don’t know what you guys… are so worried about.”
She shoots him an unamused look before hauling him up from under his arms to lean him against her knees. She armours his left side, and then grabs the rerebrace that will go over his right upper arm. “I’m sorry,” she says in advance. “This may hurt.”
He gives her a wry smile. “I can assure you… I’ve felt worse.”
She’s as gentle as she can be, but he’s still unable to suppress a sharp hiss when she puts pressure on his burnt flesh. She’ll have to be careful when she carries him.
“Ready to go?” Lance asks, after she’s finished putting together Shiro’s armour. Lance has Keith’s arm draped across his shoulders.
“I think so.” She scoops Shiro up into her arms, one arm beneath his knees and the other sliding under his back. “Is this alright?” she asks Shiro.
“It’s fine,” he says, resigned. The frustration lacing his voice is understandable—she would hate to have to be carried like this, too.
“We’ll have you back on your feet soon enough,” she assures him.
“Alright. Let’s go this way,” Lance says, taking the lead. He gestures in the direction of where he went to retrieve the water. “There’s a fork in the path by the pool. We can search the route you guys didn’t take.”
They set out at a snail’s pace, Keith sluggish and stumbling. At this rate, it could be half a quintant before they reach the city. The notion hollows a deep pit in Allura’s stomach, but she makes sure not to give it a voice.
“Sorry,” Keith slurs as they travel, well aware he’s holding them back.
“Hey, none of that,” Lance says. “Honestly, I’m surprised you’re moving this fast, all things considered. Don’t push yourself too hard, alright? I know that’s, like, a crazy concept for you, but we’ve got a long walk ahead of us. We gotta pace ourselves.”
Allura smiles to herself: Lance has matured so much. Gentle, encouraging, supportive; she’s grown quite fond of this version.
Many doboshes later, they reach the little pool. The shallow water sparkles, blush pink crystals lying just beneath the surface. True to Lance’s word, there are two routes they can take. Shiro directs them to the unexplored path on their right.
They venture deeper into the cave. The sounds of ragged, heavy breathing and footsteps in slow motion echo through the pink-lined tunnel. It reminds her of their ticking clock, and needs something—anything—to distract her from it. She has to lessen the weight of the anxiousness smothering them.
She dives back into her earlier conversation with Lance. “So, in your Earth ‘bowling’,” she starts, her vocal chords at their normal volume but her voice still too loud. The words feel awkward and wrong, abrupt and incongruous with the circumstances, but she continues anyway. “The aim is to throw the ball past your opponent to destroy all of their ‘pins’?”
Lance blinks, caught off guard by the strange question, but then he casts her a grateful smile. “Not quite. You don’t really throw bowling balls, at least not hard; you just roll them. You’re just trying to knock the pins over, not destroy them. And you’re not really trying to get it past anyone, either. You just kind of take turns in a line.”
A genuine laugh bubbles up and out of her. Humans are adorable.
“Why’re you guys talking about bowling?” Keith slurs.
“Uh, why wouldn’t we be talking about bowling?” Lance retorts. “It’s awesome.”
Keith scoffs.
“Okay, yeah, not really,” Lance admits. “But cosmic bowling was super cool. Best birthday party ever.”
“What’s that?” Keith asks. “Cosmic bowling. I know what a birthday party is.”
“It was like regular bowling, except some things glowed in the dark, and…” he pauses. “Okay, yeah, that was about it. Stop judging, Princess.”
She tries and fails to wipe the light amusement from her face.
“Glow in the dark is kind of a big thing on Earth when you’re a kid. Like these crystals?” Lance gestures at their surroundings with his free hand. “I would’ve lost my mind if I’d seen this when I was younger.”
She follows his indication, looking around them, and—the crystals are different here. While the cave they’ve explored so far has been covered in glowing blues and purples and pinks, the walls and ceiling and floor here have shifted to a vivid tangerine.
It feels different here, too. There’s something humming in the air, reverberating in her marrow. When she focuses, she can sense the faint murmur of… quintessence.
“I think they’re close,” she says. They reach a junction, and she nods leftward. “This way.”
She chases the dim, pulsing sensation. Their half varga is almost up, but they’re almost there; she can feel it under her skin. The crystals graduate from orange to goldenrod as they get closer.
Just when their deadline is about to run out, they reach a grotto. It dazzles in bright yellow. A massive crystal rests at the centre, radiating quintessence. And around it, sprouting between crags of crystal, are delicate sprigs of shimmering flowers. Atraxeth.
“You found it,” Lance says, eyes wide as he drinks in the beauty around them.
“We did,” she says. “Rest for a moment while Lance and I gather these,” she says to Shiro and Keith, setting Shiro down.
Lance guides Keith to take a seat. “Yeah. Take a quick breather,” he says, with a clap to Keith’s shoulder.
“’Kay.” Keith immediately crawls closer to Shiro, curling up at his knees like a kitten and closing his eyes. He’s asleep in an instant.
Allura and Lance approach the centre of the chamber. The atraxeth is even more beautiful up close, its petals opalescent and sparkling, its stem and leaves like sea glass.
“They’re lovely,” Allura says, reaching between the crystals and plucking one.
“Yeah,” Lance agrees, doing the same and holding it up where he can inspect it like a gemstone. “Almost a shame they’ll be pulverized into powder. They’re gonna be all squished, too, carrying them back—we’ll want our hands free, so I guess we’ll just have to shove ‘em into our armour? …Unless…”
He places his hands on the sides of Allura’s helmet. “May I?” She gives a short nod, and he lifts her helmet off. Carefully, he tucks the sprig of atraxeth into her hair. “There,” he says, beaming. “Perfect.”
The two work quickly to gather the remaining flowers. There aren’t all that many of them, though supposedly they’re highly potent, and the powder from a few can be diluted enough to treat thousands.
Lance deftly weaves the rest of the flowers into Allura’s hair. It only takes a moment; he must have practice with this sort of thing. He takes a half tick to admire his handiwork, pleased with himself, before placing the helmet back over his head. “Alright. Let’s—”
“Guys?” Shiro’s voice is quiet but frantic.
There’s a large snake slithering full speed toward Shiro and Keith. No—two. They’re different from the ones they’ve seen before, glittering chartreuse with glowing eyes a few shades brighter. They have more teeth, too: one of them flashes its mouth open to reveal several rows of wicked sharp fangs.
Allura sprints toward them as fast as she can, and Lance materializes his gun, opening fire. Lance manages to hit one, stunning it, but the other slips past and lunges for Keith and Shiro, jaws wide open.
Shiro lurches forward to protect Keith. His shield won’t come up—the electricity from his arm destroyed his armour’s functionality—so he uses his left hand to thrust his right arm forward, blocking its jaws with that. The armour from his elbow down shatters as the fangs pierce through, the dull clang of metal reverberating through the grotto as they strike Shiro’s arm and hand beneath.
It holds the creature off for a few moments, long enough for Lance to get a hit in. Allura finally gets within range, diving forward to reach the other with her whip.
These snakes are much stronger than the others they’ve encountered, and Shiro has to block three more bites before Allura and Lance are finally able to take them out.
By the end of it, Shiro’s breathing is brutally laborious. “Don’t be—don’t be alarmed,” he gasps. “But I think I’m gonna… pass out.” And with that, his eyes roll back, and he collapses.
Keith jolts awake as Shiro hits the ground beside him with a thud. “Shiro? …Shiro!” He looks around, eyes saucer-wide as he pieces together what happened. “I—I wasn’t—I should’ve—I’m sorry I’m sorry I’m sorry—”
“Hey,” Lance says, trying to keep his voice level despite his eyes screaming panic. “It’s okay, it’s okay.”
“He’s still breathing,” Allura says—it’s impossible not to hear. She lifts Shiro’s limp body into her arms. “Let’s get going. The sooner we get out of here, the sooner we can get him help.”
Keith shoves himself to his feet, stumbling as he lurches forward.
“Whoa, easy, man,” Lance says, catching him before he faceplants. “We gotta pace ourselves, remember? We can’t tire ourselves out too fast.”
“Fine,” Keith mutters, though he still pushes himself as he sets their pace, heading back the way they came.
By the time they reach the pink pool again and start retracing Keith and Shiro’s steps, Keith is flagging.
By the time they reach a three-way junction, Lance is bearing most of Keith’s weight.
“Which way did you come from, Keith?” Allura asks.
“Um… Righ—no. Left? …Not… not the middle, but…” His face scrunches up as he tries to think. “I—I can’t remember which. I-I’m sorry—“
“Hey, hey, don’t worry about it,” Lance says. “We’ll wake Shiro up and ask him.”
Allura shifts Shiro in her arms. “Shiro? Please wake up,” she says. She shakes him a little. “Shiro?” she tries again, but he doesn’t stir. She tries to push down her panic.
Lance reaches over and pats at Shiro’s colourless cheek a couple times. “Hey. Shiro.”
Shiro’s still breathing, but there’s no response.
Allura sets him on the ground. She tries shaking his shoulder one more time, this time more vigorously, before undoing the armour that remains covering his right arm. “I’m sorry,” she whispers, as she wraps her fingers around the bandage covering his wound and presses down.
It elicits a noise between a groan and a gasp, pain twisting Shiro’s features. His eyes crack open.
“I’m so sorry, Shiro,” she says, “But we had to wake you. We’ve reached a fork in the path, and we need to know which way you came from.”
“’m sorry,” Keith says. “Sorry I couldn’t remember—“
“It’s… okay,” Shiro manages, through clenched teeth. “We—we stuck to the… right wall. So just… k-keep taking lefts.”
Lance smacks his hand to his helmeted forehead. “Why didn’t I think of that? Of course you guys would’ve chosen a smart way of doing that. I should’ve known.”
Allura should have figured as well. If they’d thought about it strategically, they’d have arrived so much earlier, and Shiro and Keith wouldn’t be—
“I-I knew that. How did I forget that?” Keith says, his voice shaky. “Why can’t I think straight?”
“It’s alright,” Shiro says. “We were hit with a—a virus, but Allura and Lance’ll… get us back soon. Get you feeling better.”
“Yeah,” Lance says. “The Ferexians will have that cure ready for you by the time we get back to the main hospital. Allura made sure of it.”
Her method of ensuring that hadn’t exactly been her most diplomatic moment—it may have involved a threat or two—but it had been effective.
“We’ll get Shiro fixed up, too,” Allura promises. “We’ll get him into a healing pod as soon as we’re out of this cave.”
“After we’ve… delivered the ingredients,” Shiro says.
“Wrong,” Lance says, “Castle first.”
“No,” Shiro insists.
“Yes.”
“Lance,” Shiro says, warningly, attempting to put on his leader voice.
“Shiro,” Lance mimics, not budging an inch.
“This again? Are you quiznaking kidding me,” Allura mutters. “Listen, you two. Here is what we are going to do. We are going to split up once we exit the cave. I will take Shiro back to the Castle, and Lance will bring Keith to the hospital and deliver the atraxeth. There will be no more arguing. Is that clear?”
“Yes,” Shiro says, a touch petulant.
“Right. Yeah,” Lance says.
With a quiet huff, she picks Shiro back up and starts down the left path.
They make it about another half varga before a faint serpentine hiss hits her ears, coming from somewhere ahead of them. She halts. “Something’s ahead,” she says, voice hushed. It sounds like a snake, though the ones they’ve seen so far haven’t made a sound.
The intermittent hissing gets louder. She materializes her bayard. “Whatever it is, it’s coming our way.”
She scans the walls around them, finding a slight recess, and sets Shiro down there. Lance brings Keith over, leaving Keith beside Shiro and pulling out his bayard. He stands guard in front of the two, sniper rifle at the ready.
Keith unsheathes his blade and activates its sword form, staggering forward.
“Whoa, hey, you should hang back too,” Lance says, holding onto his shoulder. “Just take it easy. Let me and Allura handle this.”
Keith shakes his head, defiant. “I can help.”
“Keith, you’re barely standing,” Allura points out. “Don’t put yourself in unnecessary danger. You need to rest.”
“I’ll be fine,” Keith says, the little pucker in his brow unfading.
Allura tries a more tactical approach. “You’re unwell. You’ll be putting us all at risk if we have to keep our eyes on you instead of focusing on the fight.”
Keith glares at her. “I can—”
“Keith,” Shiro interrupts. “If something comes, I’m not gonna be able to… do much like this. I’m gonna need… s-some protection. Can you stay back… here with me?”
Keith nods. “I’ll protect you, Shiro,” he says, stepping back. “Not gonna let anything happen to you.”
Lance flashes Shiro a grin. “Good thinking.”
Shiro gives the slightest of nods.
Allura advances, ready to be the first line of attack. The hissing is loud, now, yet still there are no footsteps.
It finally approaches, and sure enough, it’s a snake. The thing slithers toward them alarmingly fast, deep purple and glittering. What looks tiny in the distance grows and grows… and grows. It’s huge. Its beady eyes flash with dangerous intent.
Allura runs forward to greet it. She pulls out her whip and, as soon as it’s within striking distance, lashes at it with all her might.
The hit doesn’t even leave a mark.
She tries again, this time striking its neck, but her whip can’t get past its hard scales. The creature is completely unfazed, barely noticing her.
She goes for the neck again—maybe if she hits it in the same spot repeatedly…
The thing slithers straight past her, heading toward the others. No. She turns on her heel and races after it. She can’t let it get to them.
Lance shoots at the creature, but his shots don’t seem to do a thing. It continues on course, straight for the three of them.
“No!” Allura cries. Desperately, she leaps and throws herself at the snake, wrapping her arms and legs around it as tightly as she can. She can barely reach around its thick body. She can’t do a thing to hurt it, but her presence does get its attention.
The thing twists itself into a knot, trapping her in a tight bind, and squeezes. She can’t help but scream as the pressure forces the air from her lungs and fractures her armour piece by piece.
“Allura!”
She can hear footsteps as Lance runs forward. A dull clang resounds over and over. He must be striking at it with his broadsword, and from the sound of it, it’s not doing a thing.
It constricts tighter, bruising every inch of her. Tighter, and tighter.
But before it shatters her bones, a sickening squelch interrupts the rhythmic thuds of Lance’s sword striking hard scales, and the pressure relents. The snake’s body goes slack.
Allura gasps for air, taking several greedy gulps before slowly climbing out of its tangled grip.
Dark, sludge-like blood pools under the snake’s head. It slowly oozes from where Keith’s blade is driven through the creature’s eye and into its brain, buried to the hilt.
“…See?” Keith says, bent over as he pants for breath. “Told you… I could help.”
And then he drops to all fours and heaves.
Startled out of his shock, Lance dashes to Keith’s side, holding him steady and sitting him back when he’s finished throwing up what little there is in his stomach. He curses. “You okay, man?”
Feebly, Keith nods. “’m fine.”
“Allura?” Shiro asks. “How’re you?”
“I’m alright,” she says. Sore as quiznak, but nothing’s broken as far as she can tell. “My armour is ruined, though.” Most of it is on the ground in pieces.
“Can—can take mine,” Keith says, still panting.
Allura shakes her head. “No. What if something else attacks?”
“Then you’re gonna need it,” Keith slurs.
“So will you!”
“You’re doing most of the fighting,” Keith says. “I’ll stay back. You two’ll keep us safe.”
“But we just—“
“You can do it,” Shiro says, his voice faint but steady with conviction. “We know you can.”
“Armour’s heavy, too,” Keith adds. “Will be easier to walk without it.”
“…Alright,” she concedes. “If you’re sure.”
Shiro nods, giving her a weak smile.
Keith and Shiro have faith in them. They won’t let them down. “We’ll get you home,” she vows. “Just hang in there a little longer.”

Gold Version Joy Run
Something that I wanted to do. Just like Yellow version, I will not restrict myself whatsoever. Which means... bring on the shenanigans.
Also, very important for me! This is the VERY FIRST TIME I actually do a full Gold version run with all the glitches at my disposal! So this is a new experience!
Let’s dance.
Right off the bat, a little f*ckery. Hey there, Silver boy. My croc is bigger than yours. ... What? Temporarily named as “Leviathan” since... well, let’s just say that the early Korean version of a certain scripture translated “Leviathan” as an alligator/crocodile. ... Gators don’t breathe flames from the mouth.
Critical Pokemon captured! Huhuhahahaha! Oh, Hoppip gets THREE moves at level 5, and one of them is Splash?! Ohohoho!
Once again, Silver boy, my croc is bigger than yours.
Splash in the third slot, eh?
Sorcery! Huhuhahahaha! Nickname: Apocalypse.
Here’s a little... side-product. ... Now that is a hell of a Rattata. No Rattata in existence can possibly have almost 400 HP at level 100, let alone level 69.
Or have that much Def, Sp. Atk, and Sp. Def. ... Or that low of an Atk. ... Dude. This guy can take hits and nothing else.
Turns out, you don’t even need a Graveler to whip Whitney’s ass. Geodude is fine. “Whits Bane”. As in, “Whitney’s Bane”. ... This was its literally only purpose.
So... this guy here... was a Quilava. Its data got corrupted during the demon magic bullsh*t, and it became an unstable Rattata. Which, when “stabilized”, became a level 1 Jigglypuff with Pokerus. ... Yep. I just force-spawned Pokerus. Because why not.
They are... parasites. Tiny little life forms stuck on the Pokemon. ... That’s nasty, dude.
The sorcery continues! Rock Smash in 3rd slot. Nickname: Leviathan. The true one. Behold the leviathan, monster of the sea! Its strong scales are its pride!
... Apparently this run’s ID gives me Smog and Fire Spin. Because those two moves were on all five Pokemon that I used this glitch to hatch. ... Which means this Lugia here is 2/5.
Nidorino! ... A Normal type Nidorino. ... ?????
“You could never catch a legendary Pokemon anyway.” ... You were literally just whipped by two of them. You blind f*ck.
Turns out, Morty is insanely easy if you... you know. Mewtwo doesn’t get Psychic until level 66, but... it gets Confusion at level 1.
Chuck’s Poliwrath was blasted so hard, its sprite died. RIP. Also proof that this was the result of shenanigans. Not only do I have a Lugia that’s level 24 (when the lowest you can get is 40 in Silver), but... Aeroblast. Aeroblast is only available in Silver version, since Lugia gets it at level 1, and then learns a new move every 11x level (11, 22, 33, 44, etc). So at level 40, it has Aeroblast, Safeguard, Gust, and Recover. In the wild, a level 44 one would’ve erased Aeroblast for Hydro Pump. So in Gold version, the level 70 Lugia does not have Aeroblast. In Crystal, the level... 60? Lugia does not have Aeroblast. And there is no such thing as a move re-learner in GSC. ... Similarly, Gold is the only version where you can get Sacred Fire. ... Which means, poor Crystal version. Doesn’t get sh*t.
Speaking of Sacred Fire... Shenanigans! Whirlpool in the 3rd slot. Nickname: Phoenix. 3/5.
Somehow, this doesn’t feel fair. Lance in the Pokemon League. Getting one-shotted. Hmm...
Well, that’s the Pokemon League down. EASY! But this time, I’m going all the way. Kanto!
Hey, this is the guy that kills your game. Talk to that thing and then open the Coin Case and then your game gets f*cked. Something like that.
Hmm... Kanto, huh? Then I get access to Grimer, and therefore Acid Armor... Hmm...
Huhuhuhahaha! Acid Armor in 3rd slot. Nickname: Doomguard. Apparently you can’t use numbers, so... I couldn’t name it as “135″. Boo. Ehn. It’s not shiny, so... 4/5.
“This Gym is great! Only girls are allowed here!” ... Yeah, maybe that line is better deleted in HGSS. ... The HGSS line makes no damn sense. Just deleting this guy would’ve been better.
... Were you... having a date right in front of someone else’s house? ... What is wrong with you?
Oh you poor, sad little man. Living in a cave, since Cinnabar Island burned down. Volcano eruption. Well, at least in HGSS, you modified the sh*t out of the cave floor in Seafoam Islands. In here, you’re literally just a dude sitting in a cave all by yourself.
Janine. You sad f*ck. What is this? Level 36?! The weakest Kanto leader by far. Even weaker than a Johto leader. That’s just... pitiful.
Oh, I remember this. The trainer house? Oh, I spent a lot of time here back in actual Gold version, trying to get Metronome to get Transform so I could Transform into the Smeargle with Sketch, so that the Mewtwo would get Sacred Fire. And I succeeded... twice, since I accidentally deleted Thunderbolt, so I had to do this glitch again, but for Thunderbolt.
Johto Leaders must be pretty pathetic because I beat them? You f*ck. Here you are, sitting all by yourself in a Gym clearly made of Lego, and you’re calling the Johto Leaders pathetic?
Well, now that I annihilated this f*ck with Mewtwo (for a specific reason), I now have access to Mt. Silver, and thus, my 5th and last addition to my team. Oh, SNEASEL!!!
Final shenanigans. Beat Up in 3rd slot. Nickname: Temporus. 5/5. It ain’t a Dragon, but hey. Time thingy. And so my team is ready. Level 59 Mew, 56 Mewtwo, 55 Lugia, 55 Ho-oh, 55 Celebi. Time to take on Red with his level 70+ team.
Oh yeah. GSC Mt. Silver requires Flash. ... Flash is for sissies?!
... Wow. Can’t see sh*t except for an item that’s... ... How would you even see that?!
So... Flash is necessary. Cool. Adding in a level 5 Togepi with Flash. The team is ready.
Mt. Silver. So... here is a “hidden” path that leads to a cave with literally nothing in it. ... Like, what the f*ck was the point of this?
And another hidden path to another hidden cave with literally nothing in it. ... WHY?! Were there supposed to be some cool hidden sh*t here that got canned at the last moment?!
... So, that’s how pitiful Pikachu is. Level 81, got outrun by a level 59 Mew (base 90 vs. base 100), and one-shotted by Earthquake. ... See, this is why I can the Pikachu as soon as possible in Yellow version for a Mew. Pikachu ain’t my starter. MEW is my starter!
And ANNIHILATED! You poor sap. I have a bunch of Pokemon 20 levels lower, and yet... EASY. Why? Because Legendaries have much higher stats than other Pokemon. And in RGBY GSC, every stat gets “EVed”. ... PKRS also helps out greatly. In short, all my Pokemon are better by far. ... Which is why I restrict myself to non-Legendaries only in other normal runs. It just ain’t fair otherwise.
Now that I finished the game, I guess I’ll go to the one thing I always found super cool and very f*cking meaningless. Edit the time to be Monday, and make a beeline for Mt. Moon!
... F*ck. I forgot about this encounter. Way to ruin it, dude. It’s a huge step down from facing Red to facing you. Boo. ... Also, now you f*cking notice? You weak pathetic f*ck. Dude, you don’t need love to raise Pokemon. You’ve been using violence, and you’ve been mislead that you need love and affection. ... Dude, you need knowledge. Violence can only come properly afterwards. ... This is a reference to the elder’s questions in Crystal and HGSS Dragon’s Den. “What do you need to raise Pokemon? Love, violence, or knowledge?”
The Clefairy dance in Mt. Moon Square! Only on Mondays at night. This is still in HGSS, I think. The Clefairy dance and... leaves you a Moon Stone before running off, which means the Moon Stone is the only evolution stone you can get infinite amount of times. The others, you get like... two. Fire/Water/Leaf/Thunder Stones require you to be in Kanto for some f*cked up reason!
Now then, Gold version joy run is over. Lots of shenanigans happened. And here is my final team:
Caught Snorlax with a duplicated Master Ball, removed the Leftovers, duplicated that 5 times so all 5 of my Pokemon can have one. Constant HP regeneration for Pokemon with PKRS boosted stat experience, and with base HP stats of 100, 100, 106, 106, 106? That’s pretty freaking cheap, man.
Psychic: Level 40, but... who has the time for that? Duplicated TM 29: Psychic 4 times, so... yay. Shadow Ball: TM 30, again duplicated. Earthquake: TM 26, duplicated. Ice Punch, TM 33. Purchased in Goldenrod! Yay for not having to use the duplication glitch!
... And PP maxed for the PP 10 or lower moves using the duplicated PP Ups.
I ain’t waiting for level 66 for Mewtwo to get Psychic. Duplicated TM!
Psychic, Earthquake, and Shadow Ball. ... Just like Mew. And Ho-oh. DUPLICATION! But look. When there’s one...
There’s the other. With a symmetrical moveset.
... Celebi doesn’t learn Psychic by itself. ... TM. Also doesn’t get Giga Drain by itself. ... TM (duplicated). Shadow Ball? Also TM. And since Celebi’s movepool is as shallow as Keldeo’s, I let it keep Leech Seed. And with Leech Seed and Leftovers, Celebi here was able to easily annihilate Red’s Snorlax despite its Amnesia. EASY!
And there you have it! An easy-ass annihilation of Gold version. ... All you have to do f*ck up the game. At one point, the Dex said that I owned 39 Pokemon. But the Dex only showed me the “owned” icons for 19. Which means, I apparently owned 20 Pokemon that I never saw. ... Yeah, that makes a lot of sense.
Poor game. But at least “POOKYPOOKY” didn’t appear this time.
