This "in between time" has long been one which gay people have taken on as their own holiday, reveling in masks and costumes. There are reasons Halloween is so closely associated with gay people, some of which author, Arthur Evans explained in his book, Witchcraft and The Gay Counterculture. Here is a brief excerpt:
One Celtic male deity … is the horned god, "one of the most basic of the Celtic god types," whose worship goes back to the Stone Age. He is often associated with the Mothers, as well as with sex, animals, and nature. He also seems to have links with male shamans. His great antiquity is shown by a Stone Age painting in Ariege, France, which shows a man dancing in the hide of an animal and wearing the antlers of a stag. And in the eighteenth century, construction workers inside Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris uncovered a four-sided Celtic stone altar dating from Roman times and bearing the figure of a bearded male deity with antlers. The stone was inscribed with the word Cernunnos, which means "The Horned One." The horned god was especially linked with male sexuality and often appears with an erect cock. Moreover, when erect, he is sometimes portrayed in the company of men, not women. A drawing of the horned god from Val Camonica, Italy, shows him holding a ceremonial collar ring in one hand and a horned serpent in the other. He is being worshipped by a man, and the man has an erection. This picture is reminiscent of early art scattered throughout Europe. The men often have erections and appear together in groups without women. In view of the Celts' notoriety for homosexuality, these facts suggest a Gay element in the worship of the horned god. The horned god was also lord of the dead and the underworld. To the Celts, who believed in reincarnation, darkness and death were parts of the cycle of life and rebirth, and death was the very place where the creative forces of nature brought about new life. Because of this connection with the underworld the horned god was often shown as black in color. But this blackness was not considered evil, as Christianity later viewed it.... The Celts dated the feast days of their religion according to the changing of the seasons, the breeding habits of animals, and the sowing and harvesting of crops. As it happens, these dates correspond exactly with the holidays later attributed by medieval Christians to witches. The Christians called these days, respectively, Halloween, Candlemas, Walpurgisnacht, and Lammas. Ritual transvestism associated with the old holidays continue[s] in Europe down to modern times. "May Day sports perpetuated the practices, including even transvestism. in Wales, there existed, into the nineteenth century, a peasant dance and march with a garland, led by a dancer [a horned god figure] called the "Cadi." In the Hogmanay celebration in Scotland, "the boys wore skirts and bonnets, the girls, hats and greatcoats." The feast of Fools, a remnant of the old pagan religion, has persisted into modern times with clerics "wearing masks and monstrous visages at the hours of the office. They dance in the choir dressed as women, or disreputable men, or minstrels. They sing wanton songs." Today many Gay people throughout Europe and America observe Halloween as a Gay holiday with transvestite celebrations.

1940 – Craig L. Rodwell (d.1993) was an American gay rights activist known for founding the Oscar Wilde Memorial Bookshop on November 24, 1967, the first U.S. bookstore devoted to gay and lesbian authors, and as the prime mover for the creation of the New York City pride demonstration. Rodwell is considered by some to be the leading gay rights activist in the early homophile movement of the 1960s.
Rodwell was born in Chicago, IL. His parents divorced prior to his first birthday and for the next few years he was boarded out for day care where he was required to do kitchen labor and laundry to supplement his board and care. When he was 6 years old, Rodwell's mother, Marion Kastman, fearing that the child care set up could cause her to lose custody of her son, arranged for his admission to the Christian Scientist affiliated Chicago Junior School for "problem" boys, in Elgin, IL. Conditions and treatment at the school were described as "Dickensian" and Rodwell got a reputation for being a rebellious child, as well as a "sissy," during his seven years there. It was at Chicago Junior School that Rodwell first experienced same-sex relationships and also came to internalize the Christian Scientist notion that "truth is power and that truth is the greatest good."
At Sullivan High School in Chicago, IL. Rodwell continued his studies in Christian Science by enrolling in Sunday school at the 16th Church of Christ, Scientist. He later studied ballet in Boston before finally moving to New York City in 1958. It was in New York that he first volunteered for a gay rights organization, The Mattachine Society of New York.
In 1962, Rodwell had an affair with Harvey Milk, who went on later to become one of the first openly gay politicians elected to high office. It was Rodwell's first serious relationship. Rodwell's relationship with Milk ended in part due to Milk's conflicted reaction to Rodwell's early activism and his introduction to Milk of "strange new ideas that tied homosexuality to politics, ideas that both repelled and attracted the thirty-two-year-old Milk." Milk believed that Rodwell had been responsible for Milk contracting an STD. After Rodwell's arrest and incarceration when picked up cruising in Washington Square Park, Milk ended their romantic involvement. Shortly after, Rodwell attempted suicide.
When Rodwell opened the Oscar Wilde Memorial Bookshop in 1967, Milk dropped by frequently, and after moving to San Francisco Milk expressed his intention to Rodwell of opening a similar store "as a way of getting involved in community work." Milk eventually opened a camera store that also functioned as a community center, much like Rodwell's bookshop had as a community gathering place.
In November 1969, Rodwell proposed the first gay pride parade to be held in New York City along with his partner Fred Sargeant, Ellen Broidy and Linda Rhodes. The first march was organized from Rodwell's apartment on Bleecker Street.
We propose that a demonstration be held annually on the last Saturday in June in New York City to commemorate the 1969 spontaneous demonstrations on Christopher Street and this demonstration be called CHRISTOPHER STREET LIBERATION DAY. No dress or age regulations shall be made for this demonstration. We also propose that we contact Homophile organizations throughout the country and suggest that they hold parallel demonstrations on that day. We propose a nationwide show of support.
Rodwell is believed to have created the term heterosexism in January 1971 when he wrote:
"After a few years of this kind of 'liberated' existence such people become oblivious and completely unseeing of straight predjudice and - to coin a phrase - the 'hetero-sexism' surrounding them virtually 24 hours a day.
In 1978 Rodwell was one of the creators and organizers of Gay People in Christian Science. One reason for the creation of the group was that three of its members had been recently excommunicated from the local branch church. In 1980 the group began to demonstrate by leafletting at the church's Annual Meeting in Boston and by 1999, six years after Rodwell's death, the Christian Scientist church no longer barred openly gay or lesbian people from membership.
Rodwell died on June 18, 1993 of stomach cancer.

1942 – David Ogden Stiers is an American actor, director, vocal actor, and musician, noted for his roles in Disney films, the television series M*A*S*H as Major Charles Emerson Winchester III and the science fiction drama The Dead Zone as Reverend Gene Purdy. He is also known for the role of District Attorney Michael Reston in the Perry Mason TV movies.
Ogden Stiers joined the cast of "M*A*S*H" in 1977 as the arrogant but charming aristocrat Charles Emerson Winchester III. In addition to starring in the sitcom, he voiced the characters of a number of Disney movies, including Cogsworth in "Beauty and the Beast" and the Archdeacon in "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."
Stiers is also the associate conductor for the Newport Symphony Orchestra and the Ernest Bloch Music Festival. He has guest conducted over 70 orchestras around the world, including the Oregon Mozart Players, the Vancouver Symphony, the Oregon Chamber Players, the Yaquina (Ore.) Chamber Orchestra, as well as orchestras in San Francisco, San Diego, Los Angeles, Chicago and Toronto.
In 2009, Stiers announced to the world that he is gay and "very proud to be so." The actor said he kept his homosexuality under wraps for years because he feared coming out would hurt his career. Butas he has not experienced any anti-gay discrimination in the movie industry recently, Ogden Stiers is reconsidering what exactly made him stay in the closet for so long.

1955 – The "Boys of Boise" affair begins. Starting with the arrest of four men for sexual relations with male teenagers who are prostitutes, it is blown into a situation in which Boise is called a mecca where Gay men can find boys. Begun by a group of right-wing politicians to shake the moderate political establishment, the issue is inflamed by the Idaho Daily Statesman and Time magazine. As a result of the hysteria, a city councilman is defeated for reelection and a West Point cadet from Idaho is dismissed. A 1965 investigation reveals the incident to be based on outright lies.

1956 – Bruce Bawer, born in New York City, is an American writer who has been a resident of Norway since 1999. He is a literary, film, and cultural critic and poet who has also written about gay rights, Christianity, and Islam.
Bawer's writings on literature, gay issues, and Islam have all been highly controversial. While championing such authors such as William Keepers Maxwell, Flannery O'Connor, and Guy Davenport, he has criticized such authors as Norman Mailer and E.L. Doctorow. A member of the New Formalists, a group of poets who promoted the use of traditional forms, he has assailed such poets as Allen Ginsberg for what he views as their lack of polish and technique.
Bawer was one of the first gay activists to seriously propose same-sex marriage, notably in his 1993 book A Place at the Table, and his 2006 book While Europe Slept was one of the first to skeptically examine the rise of Islam in the Western world.
On an episode of the Charlie Rose Show marking the 25th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, Bawer took part in a discussion with fellow gay moderate Andrew Sullivan and gay-left writers Tony Kushner and Donna Minkowitz. Minkowitz underlined the conflict between the two sides of the gay-rights movement by saying: "We don't want a place at the table! We want to turn the table over!
A Washington Post article about the 25th anniversary of Stonewall quoted Bawer on gay pride marches: "It's hard to make straight people understand how serious an issue gay rights is when they look and see a kind of Mardi Gras atmosphere … It doesn't communicate the idea that these are serious issues."
From 1994 to 1999, he was a regular columnist for The Advocate, the gay newsmagazine. His Advocate columns and other articles by Bawer on gay issues were later collected in an e-book, The Marrying Kind.

1968 – Silent film star Ramon Novarro was found murdered. A bathroom mirror had the words "US GIRLS ARE BETTER THAN FAGGITS" smeared in blood. Hustler Paul Ferguson and his brother Tom Ferguson were convicted of the murder and both received life sentences. During the trial, Novarro's sexual orientation was called into question with more vigor than the guilt or innocence of the defendants.

1969 – On this date Time magazine ran a cover story on "The Homosexual in America" that included a report on the Stonewall Riots. It was protested by the Gay Liberation Front because the writer said homosexuals are mentally ill and immoral.

1969 – On this night sixty members of the Gay Liberation Front (GLF) and the Society for Individual Rights (SIR) staged a protest at San Francisco's Examiner in response to another in a series of news articles disparaging LGBT people in San Francisco's Gay bars and clubs. The peaceful protest against the "homophobic editorial policies" of the Examiner turned tumultuous and were later called "Bloody Friday of the Purple Hand".
Examiner employees "dumped a bag of printers' ink from the third story window of the newspaper building onto the crowd." Some reports were that it was a barrel of ink poured from the roof of the building. The protestors "used the ink to scrawl "Gay Power" and other slogans on the building walls" and stamp purple hand prints "throughout downtown San Francisco" resulting in "one of the most visible demonstrations of Gay power".
According to Larry Little John, then president of SIR, "At that point, the tactical squad arrived — not to get the employees who dumped the ink, but to arrest the demonstrators who were the victims. The police could have surrounded the Examiner building...but, no, they went after the Gays...Somebody could have been hurt if that ink had gotten into their eyes, but the police came racing in with their clubs swinging, knocking people to the ground. It was unbelievable." The accounts of police brutality include women being thrown to the ground and protesters' teeth being knocked out.

1983 – Adam Bouska, born in Decatur, Illinois, is an award winning American fashion photographer who runs a photography studio based out of West Hollywood, California. He is known for pictures of male models in particular, and is considered a rising 'superstar photographer' in the gay community. His work has been printed in DNA Magazine and reFRESH and has already been featured on a variety of shows and mediums including The New York Times, Life & Style magazine, Guinness Book of World Records 2010, Chelsea Lately, TODAY show, The View, Million Dollar Listing, Millionaire Matchmaker, and CNBC. He is also noted for his work with celebrities such as Barry Manilow.
Bouska is openly gay. He lives in West Hollywood, California and was recognized as the community's leading photographer at the West Hollywood awards in January 2007.
In November 2008, in response to the narrow approval in California of Proposition 8, which banned gay marriage, Bouska and his partner, Jeff Parshley, founded the NOH8 Campaign to promote the overturn of this ban. While beginning at a grassroots level, by April 2009 the campaign had seen support from many celebrities and became involved in the Miss USA 2009 controversy. The campaign has now gained the support of many notables.
NOH8 is a photographic silent protest launched on February 1, 2009 in direct response to the passage of Proposition 8 in California. Photos feature subjects against a white background with duct tape over their mouths, symbolizing their voices being silenced by Prop 8 and similar legislation around the world, with NOH8 painted on one cheek in protest.
Three years since its inception, the NOH8 Campaign (pronounced No Hate) has grown to over 20,000 faces and continues to grow at an exponential rate. The campaign began with portraits of everyday Californians from all walks of life and soon rose to include politicians, military personnel, newlyweds, law enforcement, artists, celebrities, and many more. Perhaps two of the most famous NOH8 models have been Cindy McCain, wife of U.S. Senator John McCain (Arizona), and daughter Meghan McCain.

1986 – Sean Paul Lockhart, born in Lewiston, Idaho, is an American model, film actor and gay pornographic actor. For the latter, he uses his stage name Brent Corrigan and has played roles in gay porn films notably with Cobra Video and Pink Bird Media, but has also made some films with Active Duty and Jet Set Men. As for his appearances with Falcon Studios particularly in The Velvet Mafia series, he has used the stage name Fox Rider instead.

As Brent Corrigan/Fox Rider
He has also appeared in several nonpornographic films as well, using his birth name Sean Paul Lockhart trying to reposition himself as a more serious mainstream actor rather than just a porn star and has released no new pornographic films since 2010 . He has focused almost exclusively on gay-themed movies and indie films. Such gay-themed and indie films include Judas Kiss, Sister Mary, Another Gay Sequel: Gays Gone Wild!, Welcome to New York, and others.
In 2011 he starred as "Ricky" in the musical Chillerama directed by Tim Sullivan in the segment "I Was A Teenage Werebear".
In 2011 Sean Paul Lockhart won the Rising Star Award at the Philadelphia QFest Festival. In 2012, he announced his involvement in production of an indie film titled Truth to be directed by Rob Moretti. He has also recorded an album with songs by the Swedish singer-songwriter and accordionist Roland Cedermark. Lockhart heads up his own production company and enjoys writing in his spare time.
Both Lockhart and Cobra Video the gay porn company that launched him as a young porn star have created separate "official Brent Corrigan websites" promoting the performer's gay porn films creating some confusion and controversy.
Lockhart's admission of playing pornographic roles while underage created great controversy resulting in voluntary withdrawal of many of his early films from circulation.
He also appeared as a witness in the murder trial of Bryan Kocis, owner of Cobra Video for whom Lockhart worked. Prosecutors alleged the two accused suspects murdered Kocis because they wanted to get Lockhart to work for them at their porn film company. However, police investigating the murder believe Lockhart didn't know about the plot and that he fully cooperated with the police and testified for the prosecution.

Corn dollies are not just for Lammas or even Mabon Sabbat, although they are made during those times as well. They are also made during Imbolc and honor the Goddess of the grain. It is said that when these husks are saved from the last harvest of corn and dried; that the spirit of the goddess of the grain lives and dwells within them. And so, people made dollies out of them to contain Her spirit and bring Her into their homes for abundance.
It is always good to have a corn dolly in the house and it's also a fun craft to do with kids! I used to do these when I was a little girl and love them.
There's instructions on how to make your own and if you want to be more creative you can always get some food coloring to dye some of the leaves for clothing or hats.

This reminds me of that old meme of the Lammas with hats like:
Alastor: I stabbed him 37 times in the chest :)
Lucifer: Alastor! That kills people!
Lucifer: ...What happened to his hands? Why are they missing??
Alastor: Well, I may have cooked them up. And ate them :3
Lucifer: Alastor!
Alastor: I was craving hands. My stomach was making the rumbles that only hands would satisfy.
Lucifer: *has an existential crisis*

Aelles Ky'Tarna
Tumblr media
Blessinsgs and Abundance to all on this wonderful Ky'Tarna holiday!
Kytarna (July 31-August 2nd) is the Bowynn version of the Wiccan and Keltic holidays Lammas and Lughnassad. It is the celebration of the middle of the Summer. The name Kytarna means “Mid-Summer”, named after the goddess of the summer Tarna. Besides celebrating the mid-summer mark, the holiday celebrates several other aspects: The first harvest, the grain & corn harvest. Its is also The divine wedding of Tarna to Saphon (South Wind) and revering the goddess Io (Home) and god Hyu (Baking) and the gods Deanna (Harvest) and Amaetheon (Abundance). So there is lots of celebrating to be had for these 3 days. As with all the circular holidays of the year, the first day is devoted to preparing and decorating. The second day devoted to prayers and the divine. The third day is devoted to celebration and revelry.
Tumblr media
Lammas is a time to enjoy the last rays of Summer, Take in the golden sunlight, to appreciate the harvest and to be grateful for the abundance we have. Wheat, Grains, Honey and Bread are high symbols of abundance in the Bowynn tradition. It's given as gifts at this time of year along with other baked goods. Garlands and ornaments of grass and husks of foods, adorn homes. And iconic woven images of Tarna and Saphon are carried in procession to the ceremonial altar.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The sacred stories to this holiday start with the first harvest of the Bowynn people in their newfound homeland. After coming to Europe on The Great Migration and settling, the gods Deanna and Amaetheon showed the good people what to forage, plant and harvest. This included honey from bee hives and milk from the wild goats and cattle. At the same time the goddess Io showed them how to build their first hearths and tend to them and Hyu taught them how to bake. So grateful were the first tribes, that they declared this day sacred to the gods. At the same time, it was also the same day when the goddess of Summer, Tarna, wed her beloved god of the south, Saphon. All the people of the first 7 tribes were witnessed to the blessed event.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Traditional Foods for the holiday are Corn, Grains, seeds, wheat, Barley, Breads, Pies, Pasta, Milk, Honey, Butter and Berries.  The most common and well-placed herbs and incenses found at Kytarna celebrations are Cedar, Alder, Cinnamon, Fenugreek, Ginger, Poppies, Cornflowers and Sunflowers. The prominent colors for the holiday are Gold, Yellow and, Copper Orange. Green can also be found here and there but not considered one of the sacred colors of the holiday. Sacred symbols found all about during Kytarna are: Corn Dollies (Representing Tarna and Saphon) Baskets and images of Bees, Hedgehog, Cows and/or Goats. Wicker items of all sorts & other straw-woven items, Wheat bundles, Bread, Cakes, Hearth broom, Corn and Corn stalks. There is also the sacred “Tarna Kaeb,” (Summer Board) which is a sacred and decorated breadboard hung on doors. And there is the ever present “Kytarna Draed” (Mid-Summer Bread) which is a special holy traditional offering and meal. Wheat wreathes, Sunflower garlands and wreaths are the norm for homes and town to be decorated in.
Special Activities during the 3-day holiday include families hanging the Tarna Kaeb on their doors, along with other decorations, Baking and making corn dollies. Commonly there is a lot of making of crafts in the theme of wicker, such as fans, hats, dollies, goats and headdresses. Back in the kitchen this is also a time for making butters of all sorts, creams and cheese. This is a famed time to gather and jar honey.
How ever you celebrate the holiday and what ever you may call it, have a great celebration, and may the gods embrace you and keep you safe and happy.

⛤Mabon Masterpost⛤
⛤The autumn equinox divides day and night equally - here we should all take a moment to pay homage to the impending darkness.
We also thank the sunset light, as we store this year's crop of crops.
The Druids call this celebration, Mea'n Fo'mhair, and honor the Green Man, the God of the Forest, by offering libations to the trees.
Offerings of cider, wines, herbs, seeds and nuts are appropriate at this time.
⛤ Pagans celebrate the aging Goddess as she passes from Mother to Crone, and her consort, the Lord, as she prepares for death and rebirth.
⛤The feast of the autumn equinox is also known by other names: Feast of the second harvest, Feast of Wine, Feast of Avalon, Autumn Equinox, or Cornucopia.
The Teutonic name, Winter Finding, spans a period of time between Mabon and October 15, which is the New Year in Old Norse.
On this holiday it is appropriate to dress in elegant clothes and dine and celebrate in luxurious surroundings.
It is time to finish the old jobs and prepare for a period of rest, relaxation and reflection.
⛤ Symbolism of Mabon:
wine, pumpkins, pine cones, acorns, grains, corn, apples, pomegranates, vines like ivy, dried seeds.
⛤ Mabon Herbs:
Acorn, ferns, cereals, honeysuckle, calendula, alfalfa, myrrh, passion flower, rose, sage, Solomon's seal, tobacco, thistle and vegetables.
Mabon Foods:Bread, nuts, apples, pomegranates and vegetables like potatoes, carrots and onions.
⛤ Mabon incense:
autumn blend with benzoin, myrrh and sage.
⛤ Colors of Mabon:
Red, orange, rust, brown, brown and gold.
⛤ Mabon stones:
Sapphire, lapis lazuli and yellow agates.
⛤ Mabon Activities:

⛤ Spells of Mabon:
protection, prosperity, security and self-confidence. Even those of harmony and balance.
⛤ Divinity of Mabon:
Goddesses of Modron, Morgan, Epona, Persephone, Pamona and the Muses.
Gods of Mabon, Thoth, Thor, Hermes and The Green Man.
Mabon is considered the time of the Mysteries.
It is a time to honor the aging Gods and the spirit world.
⛤ Harvest time :
When leaves turn yellow and fruits and vegetables ripen, when day and night are about the same.
⛤ Curiosity:
The Romans celebrated a festival dedicated to Pomona, the goddess of fruit and growing things. The Romans celebrated a festival dedicated to Pomona, the goddess of fruit and growing things.
However, the most famous ancient myth comes from Greece. The autumn equinox marks Persephone's return to the underworld:
In ancient Greek mythology, the beginning of the fall is closely linked to the story of the abduction of Persephone, also called Kore or Cora. Daughter of Demeter, goddess of earth and fertility, she was kidnapped and taken to the underworld to become the wife of Hades, the god-king of the underworld. After a period of mourning and struggle, Demeter eventually brought her daughter back from Hades to the light, but only for six months of the year. Each fall, Persephone must return to the underworld to spend six months with Hades. During these months, Nature withdraws.
⛤ Neopagan celebration:
Mabon is a relatively modern neo-pagan celebration, which takes place around the September equinox.
In the 1970s, the American author Aidan Kelley gave new names to the six pagan holidays rooted in the ancient Celtic tradition and added two new celebrations proper to the September and March equinox.
⛤ These holidays are celebrations based on the cycles of the sun.
Inspired by a proper name derived from the Welsh word mab / map, meaning "son" or "boy", Kelly chose Mabon as the name for the autumn equinox celebration, and founded the ceremony he had composed for the festival in the Greek myth of Persephone.
Mabon celebrates the second harvest and the start of winter preparations, and it's time to respect the impending darkness while giving thanks in the sunlight.
Druids and pagans also flock to Stonehenge, the famous 5,000-year-old site in Wiltshire, and Castlerigg, another megalithic stone circle near Keswick, Cumbria, to watch the equinox dawn.
⛤ Christianity:
The Christian church replaced many pagan celebrations with Christian observances. The most famous is Christmas, which replaced the ancient Yule festival around the December solstice.
The closest Christian celebration to the September equinox is Michaelmas, also known as the feast of St. Michael and all angels, on September 29th. In this period, the feast of St. Michael is mainly observed in the Catholic church.
Centuries ago in England, the time around the feast of St. Michael also had a commercial side: servants were paid wages after the harvest and workers looked for new jobs at job fairs that also became a place for celebrations.
Mabon is a time full of magic, all connected to the changing seasons of the earth, this is the Second Harvest, the Fruit Harvest and the Great Thanksgiving.
The Goddess is radiant and the God eventually dies with her gift of pure love with the cutting of the last grain. Will come back. As the grain is harvested in abundance during Lammas and reaches completion, we enjoy the abundance of fruits and vegetables at this time.
It is time to thank the waning sun for the richness of the harvest that has been bestowed on us.
Sometimes it seems like every Holiday calls for thanks, and it really is: every spin of the Wheel brings both inner and outer gifts and insights, so Mabon is a celebration and also a period of rest after harvest work.
In terms of your life path, it is time to reap what you have sown, time to look at the hopes and aspirations of Imbolc and Ostara and reflect on how they have manifested.
It is time to complete projects, to clear out and leave what is no longer wanted or needed as we prepare for the descent, so that winter can offer a time for reflection and peace.
And it's time to plant seeds of new ideas and hopes that lie dormant but nurtured in the dark, until spring returns.

⛤Mabon Spells, Part I⛤
Before we start, I’d like to inform you that this topic has been broken down in 3 posts since I’d like to share some Spells, Deity Spells and Kitchen Magic, before the actual celebration, to make the entire thing more readable and give our fellow witches enough time to get ready!
I will also share a Mabon Masterpost with all the content I’ve posted regarding the festivity.
This is a list of spells that are a MUST for Mabon!
⛤An Acorn Mabon Spell for Prosperity
⛤Ingredients:
An acorn
Marker or paint with paintbrush
Small spell bag or sachet
Small bell (you can get these from craft shops)
⛤How to:
Cleanse your space in whatever way you prefer. For Mabon, I typically do a smoke-cleanse with rosemary or use my besom.
Set the magical Mabon mood – turn on music, burn incense, light a few candles, etc.
Gather your ingredients and tools.
Cast a circle, if you so choose, and invoke the elements.
Hold your acorn in your hands and envision prosperity flowing from the acorn into your hands and through your entire body like a soft orange light.
Keep the acorn in your left hand and pick up the little bell in your right.
Say the following 9 times:
“Blessings of oak, earth and the Mabon season.
Flow through this acorn into my home.
Each time the front door opens,
The Mabon bell rings and prosperity flows in.”
Now draw or paint the Mabon symbol onto the acorn (see the Mabon symbol in the graphic above).
Place the acorn and bell in the small bag.
Thank the earth, Mabon spirits, and energies present. (Release your circle if you cast one).
Hang the Mabon spell bag on your front door, until the Autumn season has ended.
Then bury the acorn near the front door. Cleanse and re-use the bell.
⛤A Mabon Bath Spell for Balance
Wherever balance is needed, decide you’re ready to improve those things and cast this Mabon spell.
⛤What You’ll Need:
Sunflower petals: linked to the Sun and properties include good luck and joy.
Also a traditional herb used on Mabon.
Chamomile: also linked to the Sun and properties include prosperity and warding off negative energy.
Rosemary: for purification, health, and clarity of mind and memory
3 crystals (of your choice, but we recommend clear quartz, citrine, and amber)
Muslin bag (optional)
⛤How to:
Cleanse the space and set the mood. Turn down the lights and turn on some music, if you choose.
Light a candle or two.
Draw a warm bath and add the herbs to the water (if you have a bag, add your herbs to the bag and then to the water. This makes clean-up much easier!)
Place the 3 crystals around 3 sides of the bathtub (not in the water, but on the tub itself).
Get in and soak while focusing on balance.
Meditate on what balance means to you and how you could use more of it.
You can chant or repeat the following incantation:
“I invoke the energies of Mabon,
On a day of balance,
We welcome the Autumn season,
May the balance of night and day
Bring my life balance in every way.”
Soak in the bath for as long as you feel it’s necessary.
Then emerge feeling balanced within yourself and all around you.
⛤Quick Balance Spell
Mabon is observed on an equinox, a time when there are equal parts of light and day. It is the perfect time to reassess and work toward balance in all parts of your life.
⛤You’ll need:
Black candle
White candle
A pen
Some paper
⛤How to:
Set up your altar to reflect the harvest.
Place a black and a white candle on opposite sides of the altar, and place a piece of parchment in between them.
On this paper, write down the aspects of your life that you feel need to be brought into balance.
As you contemplate those aspects, light the candles and say:
"As day and night are now in balance,
so to let my life find balance."
⛤Mabon Ritual
This is a ritual to honor the duality of life and death, sadness and celebration.
⛤You’ll need:
White Candle
Black Candle
A red apple
Some spring flowering bulbs
⛤How to:
Place one white and one black candle on your altar.
In the center, place one red apple to represent Avalon, the Land of Apples where some traditions believe Mabon was held captive
As a symbol of rebirth, also have on hand a small bowl of spring-flowering bulbs
Light the candles and say:
"You walk the paths of darkness and
light,
You do not fear the coming of the night.
Again you'll rise from the mists of
Avalon,
For you are Mabon, the Great Son."
As a lasting tribute to this holiday, plant the bulbs. When they bloom in the spring, you'll remember Mabon and the cycle of birth, death, and rebirth.
Mabon Spells-Pt.2
Deities associated with Mabon include all Wine Deities – particularly Dionysus and Bacchus, and Aging Deities.
Emphasis might also be placed on the Goddess in Her aspect of the Mother (Demeter is a good example), Persephone (Queen of the Underworld and daughter of Demeter), and Thor (Lord of Thunder in Norse mythology).
Some other Autumn Equinox Goddesses include Modron, Morgan, Snake Woman, Epona, Pomona, and the Muses.
Some appropriate Gods besides those already mentioned are Mabon, Thoth, Hermes, and Hotei.
⛤A Growth Spell to Persephone
Persephone is the ancient Greek goddess of spring.
She spends six months of the year with the god Hades as goddess of the underworld and six months on Earth with her mother, Demeter.
Her arrival on Earth is marked by the beginning of spring.
You can use this spell to achieve growth in any area of your life, such as career, finances, or your personal life.
⛤You’ll need:
A metallic gold ink pen
Paper
⛤How to:
Write your wish with metallic gold ink on paper, then say:
"Persephone, goddess of spring,
thank you For the green earth and
for the flowers in the meadow.
Grant my wish and help it grow."
Hide the wish. Then at Mabon, when Persephone is about to return to the underworld, burn the wish and scatter the ashes outside.
⛤Ritual to Honor Demeter and Persephone
⛤You’ll need:
Red or Yellow flowers for Demeter
Purple or black flowers for Persephone
Some stalks of wheat
Corn
Sickles
A chalice of wine or grape juice
Pomegranate
A black  candle for Persephone
An orange candle  for Demeter
⛤How to:
Decorate your altar with symbols of Demeter and her daughter; add flowers and  stalks of wheat, corn, sickles in baskets.
If you normally cast a circle, or call the quarters, do so now.
Turn to the altar, and light the Persephone candle. Say:
“The land is beginning to die, and the soil grows cold.
The fertile womb of the earth has gone barren.
As Persephone descended into the Underworld,
So the earth continues its descent into night.
As Demeter mourns the loss of her daughter,
So we mourn the days drawing shorter.
Winter will soon be here.”
Light the Demeter candle, and say:
In her anger and sorrow, Demeter roamed the earth,
And the crops died, and life withered and the soil went dormant.
In grief, she traveled looking for her lost child,
Leaving darkness behind in her wake.
We feel the mother's pain, and our hearts break for her,
As she searches for the child she gave birth to.
We welcome the darkness, in her honor.
Break open the pomegranate (it's a good idea to have a bowl to catch the drippings), and take out six seeds.
Place them on the altar. Say:
Six months of light, and six months of dark.
The earth goes to sleep, and later wakes again.
O dark mother, we honor you this night,
And dance in your shadows.
We embrace that which is the darkness,
And celebrate the life of the Crone. Blessings to the dark goddess on this night, and every other.
As the wine is replaced upon the altar, hold your arms out in the Goddess position, and take a moment to reflect on the darker aspects of the human experience.
When you are ready, end the ritual.
⛤A Prayer to Ker Morrighan
“Oh Morrighan,
Bringer of destruction and darkness,
I embrace you tonight.
Without rage, we cannot feel love,
Without pain, we cannot feel happiness,
Without the night, there is no day,
Without death, there is no life.
Great goddess of the night, I thank you.”
Take a few moments to meditate on the darker aspects of your own soul. Is there a pain you've been longing to get rid of?
Is there anger and frustration that you've been unable to move past?
Is there someone who's hurt you, but you haven't told them how you feel?
Now is the time to take this energy and turn it to your own purposes.
Take any pain inside you, and reverse it so that it becomes a positive experience.
If you're not suffering from anything hurtful, count your blessings, and reflect on a time in your life when you weren't so fortunate.
⛤ A Prayer to The Goddess
“Beloved Crone, Giver of Insight
We give you thanks for coming here
We thank you for your guiding power
As the Wheel turns toward the darker hour
You give us wisdom, you give us peace
It shall sustain through winter’s increase
Beloved Crone, we give thanks to thee
Giver of Insight, blessed be
Hail and farewell!”
⛤ A Prayer to The God
“God of the Harvests, Lord of Shadow
We give you thanks for coming here
Thank you for the harvest fair
Apples and fruit are picked with care
Into the looming night you ride
Your gifts to us we receive with pride
God of the Harvests, we give thanks to thee
Lord of Shadow, blessed be
Hail and farewell!”

Recipes:
⛤Buttermilk Bread Charm for Mabon.
⛤You will need:
3 mugs of strong white flour
500 ml of Buttermilk (available from the supermarket)
I teaspoonful of baking soda
Mabon ribbon in your choice of colour - red, orange, yellow, gold, brown
A handful of dried fruit of your choice - dates, raisins, sultanas, currants
⛤How to:
Place the flour and dried fruit in a large bowl.
Make a well in the centre.
Sieve in the blended salt and soda and pour in the buttermilk.
Mix well with a wooden spoon until the dough feels springy. If it feels too sloppy just add a little more flour.
Turn it onto a board and cover with a fine dusting of flour. Pat it with your hands until you have a round shape.
Take a sharp knife and score lightly into eight sections, one for each festival.
Set the oven temperature to 180°C.
Place the dough onto a greased baking tray and pop your buttermilk bread into the oven for about 20-25 minutes.
Keep an eye on it.
When the bread is ready it will change colour and it will sound hollow when you tap the bottom.
Cool completely and tie it with Mabon ribbon.
⛤Take time to concentrate on the bread you have created and turn the loaf three times saying
"From the fields and through the stones, into fire, Mabon Bread, as the Wheel turns may all be fed. Goddess Bless."
⛤Now take your bread and share it with your family and friends and pass on the generous blessings of this bright and bountiful festival.
Eat it fresh, as soon as it is made if you can.
⛤Mabon Baked Apples
⛤Ingredients:
4-6 apples (Gala and Fuji are best for baked apples), cut in half, seeds removed.
Raisins
Ginger
Cinnamon
Cardamom
Cube of butter for each apple
Cane sugar, Honey or Maple Syrup
Fresh Cream, Yogurt or Ice Cream to serve (optional)
You can try other spices instead like nutmeg, anise, or cloves If you have apple pie or dried currants or cranberries instead of raisins.
⛤How to:
In each hole of the apple, add a few raisins, some fresh grated ginger and a pinch each of cinnamon and cardamom.
Once you’ve made your combination and stuffed the apples with spices and butter, nestle the apples close together in a baking dish.
Sprinkle them with sugar or drizzle them with honey or maple syrup.
Then pour about one inch of water into the pan (not on the apples).
Bake the apples for about an hour. Check them after 30 minutes to be sure there is still liquid in the pan, if not, or if it is getting low, add some more.
Finish cooking the apples, turn off the oven and leave them inside until the oven cools off.
Serve them as is, with their own sauce, or add something cool and creamy to go alongside.
