#TheMinetLibrary opened in 1890 as a gift from the landowner #WilliamMinet in memory of his recently deceased wife. The building was designed in the Gothic Revival style by #GeorgeHubbard who also designed nearby Longfield Hall. After being partially destroyed in the #Blitz in 1940 the library was rebuilt in 1956 becoming part of the #LambethLibraryService. Like many local libraries it became the target of the #cuts to local Government spending in the 1990's. A vigorous campaign was mounted by local residents to save the library but after many years of fighting various closure threats under increasing budget cuts the library closed in 2015 at the moment a stripped down service is running. Luckily the #LambethLocalHistoryArchive in part of the building remains open and was an important resource for the creation of this #mosaic #artwork. - #lambethcouncil #brixton #myattsfield #publicart #sculpture #eyethornepark (at Brixton)

Children banned from play area because they are in the social rent block. This is scandalous. Well done the @guardian for breaking the story, for @dinahbornat calling it and on Twitter there is mass condemnation from politicians from all spheres. This is not the only whispers we’ve heard of this happening, but how #LambethCouncil could agree to this change of use, taking away a previously planned entrance, is incomprehensible. Thanks @michaeljacksonbailey for the tennis training yesterday..... You are literally that teacher I'd want to punch his face, I'm still blessed for the time that you gave me. i'm rubbish...... So rubbish in fact that had to play his daughter..... Anyway I have a major issue with Lambeth council..... I pay my taxes on time so please explain to me why I have to pay extra money just to book to use a court in my local parks..... And we wonder why there are no black tennis players because literally you can only be a practice tennis if you have money...... Charging £5 40 use a tennis court and when you go to the website and see that certain places do not require a booking, When you get there everyone saying are we booked we've booked...... But Lambeth council you need to change your policy this is out of order...... You think to short-term lets try think long-term if you allow people to use the tennis courts people get better and people have more money which will come back to your council..... #lambethcouncil #fixup #outerorder (at Lambeth) https://www.instagram.com/p/CPz7tnhl1S48qXu1PJ_uDJT5eYe9LnLxcSAWgI0/?utm_medium=tumblr

Friday 13th October 2017 proved unlucky for some speeding motorists on Lancaster Avenue as LARA ran its first Community Roadwatch event with the Lambeth Safer Transport Team led on the day by Police Community Support Officer Bruce Hay accompanied by two of his colleagues and ably assisted by residents from the Avenue.
Using a speed gun supplied by the Lambeth police team and expertly handled by one of the residents the Roadwatch team captured 78 vehicles travelling at 25mph or more in just 75 minutes between 4pm and 5:25pm. Of those 78 vehicles, 20 were captured travelling at over 27 mph and the worst offender was clocked at a staggering 42 mph.
The registration numbers of all vehicles registering 25mph or more on the laser gun were recorded and have been reported to TfL by the police team. Drivers who are subsequently caught speeding a second time will receive warnings, which for the worst offenders may involve a knock at the door from Bruce and his team, and further infringements will incur stiffer penalties.
Bearing in mind the presence of a nursery, two care homes and an infant school on our road and the long-standing nature of the 20mph speed limit the speeds some motorists were travelling at really does beggar belief.
PCSO Hay declared the event "very busy by any standard" and plans to return, this time with 2 speed guns, for a further event in the November. He assures us that the need to return so quickly is driven by the evident problem which affects our road and not by the excellent cups of tea and good company supplied to him and his team.
Speeders watch out!

Sit-in at Carnegie Library to keep it open.
One of my favourite libraries in the UK, Herne Hill's Carnegie Library, is being occupied by some local residents to halt its closure by London’s Lambeth Council.
"It will have a neighbourhood library service, health and fitness facilities (when it reopens in 2017)," a spokesman for Lambeth Council said.
What the Council means by:
- "Healthy Living Centre" is a gym which has a lounge.
- "Neighbourhood Library" is a self-service facility in the gym's lounge offering "a small selection of books," Wi-Fi access and computers.
In other words a "neighbourhood library" would not be a library.
(Lambeth Council Culture 2020 Report, as nicely explained by The Friends of Carnegie Library)
We are here talking about a beautiful Grade II listed building, built in 1906, that has hosted a public library for 110 years and that the council now wants to “transform” into a gym (?!?!) Absolutely revolting!
I was invited to read some of my books to the local children at the Carnegie Library during my UK Book Tour 2013 and I just loved the architecture, the style and the spacious rooms. What a lovely place!
I do hope the Council will think again about its plans for the library and not destroy this beautiful cultural hub to create a gym instead!
Don’t let Lambeth Council take away a fabulous place for children and adults to read and enjoy reading.
Don’t hesitate to show your support to The Friends of Carnegie Library.

I was invited to read some of my books to the local children at the Carnegie Library during my UK Book Tour 2013.
Reading some of my books with one of my characters, The T-RRIBLE, at the Carnegie Library, during my UK Book Tour 2013.
The T-RRIBLE showing he too is against the closure of the Carnagie Library.

Lambeth Local Plan Review: Your chance to shape Lambeth’s future
Lambeth is a great place to live, work and invest because of its location, its people, its character and assets. The existing Lambeth Local Plan, adopted in 2015, contains a strong vision for the development of the borough to improve opportunities for local people.
However, we need to partially update it and this updated Lambeth Local Plan, together with the Mayor of London’s London Plan and neighbourhood plans, will set out the vision and robust planning policies needed to direct and guide development in the borough over the next 15 years to meet our future needs.
As a part of updating Lambeth’s Local Plan we are consulting with residents and stakeholders – we want you to have your say. We are at the beginning of the process and this consultation is your chance to tell us what issues you think need to be reviewed in the Plan.
