The Pitcher Plant Trail is a short boardwalk-style trail that leads hikers across a large bog garden of carnivorous pitcher plants and sundews.  To see the pitcher plants, follow the paved path from the trailhead to the wooden boardwalk over the bog. As you walk through the trees it eventually opens up to a vast field of pitcher plants. Once past the boardwalk, you will find a dirt patch that joins with the Turkey Creek Trail that will loop back to the trailhead.  To make this short one-mile trail longer you can hike the Turkey Creek Trail north or south. Hiking Hawthorn Trail and Pineywoods Boardwalk Trail at Lake Livingston Texas State Park The Hawthorn Trail - According to AllTrails.com, this trail is referred to as the main trail and is a large 1.7 looping trail that takes on several trails. But officially the first part of the trail is called the Hawthorn Trail. It’s a short .20-mile trail that takes you to the other trails. The Pineywoods Boardwalk Trail also called the Pineywoods Nature Trails is a .9 loop trail that takes through the forest, swamp, and meadows of Lake Livingston State Park. The trail is a boardwalk and sits just above the water. The wooded area is a mix of loblolly/short-leaf pine and hardwoods. The hardwoods include white oak, sweetgum, ash, and dogwood. Trails are easy but a ton of mosquitoes making it not a fun hike. The Cedar Bayou Hiking Trail is located near the Cedar Bayou Marina in Gordonville, Texas and is part of the Cross Timbers Hiking Trail system that starts over at Juniper Point. According several sources the Cedar Bayou Trail is 1.5 miles long but being part of the larger Cross Timbers Hiking Trails you walk for miles if you wanted to. The trail is rated as moderate. Make sure to bring $5 a day for parking. Even parking along the road requires payment. Marina staff does check on occasion to see if visitors paid to park. There is also sign in log sheet to sign. This tells emergency services and marina staff that you are on the trail and what time you arrived/left the trail. Some cellphone shots from today's adventures. It was a hot one this morning. We were only able to hike a few miles and out in for about an 1.5 hrs before were done for the day. We hiked the caves trail and the rock garden trail. Both moderately easy. The heat made it hard. We had to make a lot of shade stops and water breaks. The Meadow Pond Trail at Hagerman National wildlife Refuge is a nicely maintained wide gravel road. If you aren’t there for the quiet or for the nature and use your headphones, keep an eye out for vehicles on the trail. The second time I hiked this trail a railway work convoy used the road to access the rail line a few miles past the end of the trail. They weren’t moving fast but if  you aren’t paying attention, they may sneak up on you and startle you. On my return trip they passed again and I didn’t realize it until they were about a half a mile behind me.  On my trip and on my first trip, a refuge maintenance tractor was cutting the grass along the trail.
