What is your favourite memory?
when i was 7-8 my family lived in california for a while and before going back to korea, my parents rented a minivan and took us on a pretty long road trip. we went to anza borrego, palm desert, grand canyon… predominantly desert-y landscapes. we listened to a lot of sting, la bouche, my brother and I each took up a row on that minivan and we drove for hours and hours looking at that august landscape… and the whole experience left a huge impression on me. i think there’s something about the ‘american wild west’ that’s just so fundamentally different, so eye-opening. korea also has a lot of mountains and beautiful nature, but idk.. sth about that road trip it almost feels like it opened a totally new horizon in my heart?
i didn’t know how to articulate this feeling until i read nabokov’s lolita, which in some ways is really an ode to americana because humbert humbert takes lolita on this prolonged road trip around the country, giving nabokov the opportunity to wax lyrical about american landscape… there’s this part
The disappointment I must now register should in no wise reflect on the lyrical, epic, tragic but never Arcadian Americanwilds. They are beautiful, heart-rendingly beautiful, those wilds, with a quality ofwide-eyed, unsung, innocent surrender that my lacquered, toy-bright Swiss villagesand exhaustively lauded Alps no longer possess. Innumerable lovers have clippedand kissed on the trim turf of old-would mountainsides, on the innerspring moss, bya handy, hygienic rill, on rustic benches under the initialed oaks, and in so many cabanesin so many beech forests. But in the Wilds of America the open-air lover willnot find it easy to indulge in the most ancient of all crimes and pastimes. Poisonousplants burn his sweetheart’s buttocks, nameless insects sting his; sharp items ofthe forest floor prick his knees, insects hers; and all around there abides a sustainedrustle of potential snakes — que dis-je, of semi-extinct dragons! — while the crablikeseeds of ferocious flowers cling, in a hideous green crust, to gartered black sock andsloppy white sock alike.
i read this in highschool and said eureka because it captures so perfectly the utter strangeness, the sheer difference in scale and scope of the american wilderness that the foreign observer can’t help but be impressed by. and it sounds like hyperbole but i really believe that road trip opened a new vista for me, gave my heart a new breath and depth… and for that i will always be grateful to my parents.
thanks so much for indulging me and asking a question!!! it really helped distract me from da problems ;_;
gonna end with sting’s if i ever lost my faith in you, cause it’s one of those song I listened to ad infinitum during that road trip.

Is there a butthole where your toes go?
I think the shoes are tall enough that your toes wouldn’t even make the butthole. You’re ENCASED in deer ass.

Tagged by @missoneminute, was going to skip this but I’m glad I didn’t <3
Are you staying home from work/school?
I work from home off and on, mostly off in the past couple of years, and definitely off right now. I’ve been staying with my large extended family; we all moved in together when the lockdown began a month ago. No complaints, plenty of space, everyone gets along, all the safety measures are in place, but it’s surreal for me. I haven’t socialized this much in years, and housework and caretaking has tripled. No complaints there either, oddly enough. I’m trying out for a new long-distance job on top of everything else but it’s proving more soul-crushingly stressful than the global emergency.
If you’re staying home, who is with you?
Oh god there’s t w e l v e of us cooped up in here, of which two are elderly, four are stir crazy childrens, and two are a cranky adult cat and an excitable puppy.
Are you a homebody?
Yes, and increasingly a recluse. If it hadn’t been for these new living arrangements I would have experienced minimal lifestyle adjustments. This *gestures* whole thing? An Aberration.
An event you were looking forward to that got cancelled?
Ehhh, nothing much. I did have tix for King Krule in Paris for early March but that plan went down the drain when my cat got sick in January. He’s still alive somehow, but probably not for long.
What movies have you watched recently?
Lordt, none. I haven’t sat down recently.
What shows are you watching?
I open Netflix, browse for 2 minutes, nothing seems appealing, and then I have to go do something for someone.
What music are you listening to?
Can’t seem to do much listening, either. If I could I’d go for loud and abrasive.
What are you reading?
The same two pages of Daniel M. Ortberg’s memoir on my Kindle over and over, and the news.
What are you doing for self-care?
I do manage to half-assedly exercise 2-3x a week, I think? Time feels elastic. I get 8 hrs of sleep every night. I also have that mindful eating app but I don’t get around to watching the videos anymore or implementing any of the theory, not that this is a good time to try and remove an old crutch. When I have some free time I just scroll through my socials in an exhausted daze. Hah, just realized that this is exactly what I had wished for on New Years while at my lowest rock bottom low to date: to be forced into a communal and labor-intensive situation and be caught in a dull manual grind from morning until night. This is dull all right, and dulling, and I’ll take it. I don’t get to complain.

(via @ladyhedoniste)
im sorry to report i am wearing it off the rack, with the exception of having safety pinned the straps in place because yeah they do NOT wanna stay buttoned
probably a big part of why this particular dress looks good on me while others struggle with it is that im fairly tall and all leg (and arm), so the way its cut proportionally suits my build more than someone with more standard proportions (where as i look absolutely ridiculous in a lot of more universal cuts, like midrise jeans, womens long sleeves anything, drop waist dresses, and so on)
BUT i think the key thing for this particular dress working is to have the waist seam at either side seam sit at your natural waist. i have a super short torso/super high waist and tend to hike this dress up a smidge to get it to sit where i want (another reason why i pin the straps), but you can see this on my sibling in the same dress (just the smaller size), despite being literally half my weight and 8inches shorter
(link for the coord)
its a truly beautiful dress and one of my favorites BECAUSE of how its cut; i have several similar dresses because i find it very flattering on me. if you can get it to sit the way you want, its spectacular, but its the sort of cut that would mean drastic design changes to alter it, which is a real gamble especially if you already have the skirt
which stares at 69qt tub of Things To Alter u gotta pick ur battles.....
more of mochis fit backlog 29/????
this is the fit that made me Desire circle glasses all the time, which is exactly what i did a few months later when i finally got my vision checked for the first time since i was a kid
shirt: thrifted / vintage (its a petite and i am not dont @ me for the sleeve length)
jsk: violet fane's the funeral
socks: angelic pretty
shoes: thrifted and EXTREMELY vintage (one of my best finds)
accessories: kc is aatp, earrings and skull brooch are from local art markets, floral brooch is from dress, necklace is vintage courtesy of my grandma's ancient belly dance collection
#mochi rambles#i'm a pretty princess#mochi talks fashion#in the last picture you can see the bodice inching down and getting caught at the top of my hips lol#also probably like 40% of this coord looking good is the angle of the photos#it is one of the dresses that looks spectacularly bad on me also if im just Out and About#especially if you have a higher vantage point#or if i go hard on the poof#its a weird dress#like i love it!!!#but its#so weird
