Sometimes, Lucrezcia thought to herself how easy it would be to escape. The Arbor was an island wonderfully connected to practically the entire world known to man. Volantis seemed like a good destination, all she needed was a ship, of which she had thousands at her disposal.

But there were several factors that deprived her of such a plan. First, her father was as tenacious as she was, and would find her and drag her back so that he could marry her off to whomever he offered.

The second, and at that moment more important, Lucreczia was sitting in a carriage, on her way to her first audience with her possible future husband. Her father, sitting opposite her, seemed to be trying to ignore her by any means possible. Lucrezcia, for her part, tried to annoy him, making noises with her rings.

"Could you, my child, stop being a nuisance for a few moments?"

The girls stopped her movements, to offer a sarcastic smile to her father.

"Oh, excuse me dearest father, it must be pre-marital nerves".

"Are you always so unbearable?"

But she preferred to swallow her words. Lunch with Lord Tarly's niece had been most victorious for her lord father. Julianna Tarly was a slender and tremendously young girl, no older than Lucrezcia herself. The young Redwyne found her stepmother-to-be irritating and exceedingly sordid. A childish girl who could compete in immaturity with her nearly five-year-old sister.

The irony of the gods, he was getting rid of a daughter to return to a wife who might be confused by one of his offspring.

Luckily for her, she would not have to put up with the new Lady of the Arbor, as she would be married by then in any corner of the fucking continent.

Honeyholt was the home of the Beesbury house, sworn to the Hightowers. With their lord at King's Landing as part of King Viserys Targaryen's council, it was Lady Beesbury, who had kindly offered to host the court. Not out of charity, of course, but out of business with one of the richest houses in all of Westeros. Lucrezcia was just a pawn, just like in her father's chessboard.

The Reach was undoubtedly a beautiful place, filled with flowers of all kinds and palaces that looked like something out of a book about knights in shining armour. Lady Beesbury greeted them at the entrance, an elderly, petite woman with an unbridled taste for pie and tartlets. Lucrezcia tried to smile and look delighted at the auction of her person to a bunch of usurious lords, as the old woman led her into the garden where the tea was to be held.

They say that you are not aware of your destiny until it is staring you in the face.

That's how Lucrezcia felt when she set foot in the garden, becoming the centre of everyone's attention. It seemed that they had deliberately arrived early, to make her entrance more conspicuous. Pairs of eyes scrutinised her as if she were one of the cakes on the table.

So far, the trip had served to psych her up, but the possibility that her future husband might be among these men made her want to vomit horribly.

"Cheer up, dear, they're watching you," her father's voice echoed behind her.

A strange tingling settled in her spine. She approached the small table with the cakes, while her father stood talking to some men in pompous clothes.

Lucrezcia contemplated that apart from herself, the only other woman at the soiree was the elderly Lady Beesbury (except for the maids who went to and fro). The rest were men. Tall, thin, short, fat, ornately dressed, full of jewels. With the balance on the side of men of her father's generation rather than her own.

She wondered if her mother suffered such a thing, being from the Iron Islands, they probably put her on a ship straight to the Arbor in a wedding dress and called it a day.

She didn't know if it was worse than what she was going through at that moment.

"My lady"

Lucrezcia gobbled down the raspberry pastry in her hand before turning to the person who spoke to her.

A short, chubby man with a terrible grey moustache and little hair in the centre of his head, he took the hand that previously held a pastry and planted a kiss on the back of her hand.

"My name is Lord Daryl Florent"

She watched him wordlessly, chewing the pastry exaggeratedly. Lord Florent began to talk about his life, still holding her hand. When the man stopped talking, seeing that the girl did not answer, he said to her.

"You would be prettier if you smiled."

A spark lit up the girl's eyes. She tugged at the corners of her mouth, preparing a flamboyant smile. A smile that showed all her teeth covered in the raspberry filling of the pastry.

Lord Florent made no secret of his displeasure as he let go of the young woman's hand and walked indignantly towards another group of men watching the interaction.

Preach the word, fatty.

The afternoon was summed up in a series of frustrated attempts by different men to approach her in an attempt to woo her. When the man was old to begin with, her tactic was to be disgusting, play with food and make comments that implied she was a woman with ideas.

When they tried to elicit information about her interests, Lucrezcia didn't bother to lie. She liked to hunt, enjoyed wine and ale (no surprise, being the daughter of the leading exporter of ale in all of Westeros), could barely do needlework, and was very interested in the political situation in the realm.

Most did not endure up to that point in the conversation, but the few who did, asked the golden question.

"And you are an avid reader from what your father says. What is the last book you read, my lady?"

"A caution for young girls, my lord"

That used to be the final strike.

Who wants a wife who reads about sex with the intention of self-pleasure rather than to give heirs?

With the many horrified looks from the gentlemen, Luther could only resist the urge to slap his daughter in the middle of the garden.

Night fell upon them, and Lady Beesbury invited them into Honeyholt's great hall. Lucrezcia watched as less than half of the large crowd of men who had been there at the beginning of the evening remained. It was clear that the great hall table was almost empty, apart from Lady Beesbury, her father, herself and some nine suitors.

The food was extremely sweet for her taste. The girl chewed in silence as her lord father spoke to the few remaining men.

Unfortunately for her, most of them were old men who had not succumbed to her tactics. She was very bored. The dress of salmon-coloured fabric was particularly itchy, the belt of thick golden thread cut off her circulation. The hairstyle that Nyssa had done for her this morning was pulling at her brain cells.

The kingdom was in the springtime, according to the maesters. The Reach's crops were thriving, but Lucrezcia wished at the moment that everything would freeze over. At the very least, for a breeze to blow. She felt like she was in the middle of Dorne's Red Desert.

In those moments of desperation, she considered faking a fainting spell. She could pour some wine over herself, lie on the floor and hope that her father would get fed up with this fanfare and decide to return to his island.

Oh, her island. Lucrezcia had always dreamed of leaving it, but now she missed it more than anything. The walks through the vineyards, going to the Ryamsport harbour market to watch the seafarers' festivals, skinny-dipping on the beach with Nyssa at an hour her father hadn't allowed.

Even her palace on the cliffs of the Arbor, right by Starfish Harbor. The library's stained glass windows, its chambers overlooking the sea, the passageways to the kitchens and stables where she could go out with her pack of hounds.

How she missed her puppies.

She hoped to transport them to wherever she was getting married.

The last litter had been of 8 puppies, 5 of which survived. Now with the perfect age and training for a good hunt. They were fast and strong, they could tear a fox apart in a few seconds.

Surely their dogs were more loyal than all these men sitting at the table. She wondered if she could use them as bait for her little puppies. As a form of training.

Nah, they'd be too easy prey.

In her reverie, Lucrezcia ignored the doors to the great hall and it was not until Lady Beesbury rose from her seat at the end of the table to greet the new visitors.

"My Lady Blackwood, what a surprise, I was not expecting you yet."

That made the Redwyne girl look up from her plate of gooseberry duck. The sight stunned her.

A tall, slender but athletic woman with a cascade of obsidian-black hair curling like tornadoes. Behind her, six men, all somewhat rough-looking, dressed in the same clothes as her. Riding clothes, black and crimson.

The men looked hungry, staring at the bloody roast duck as if they hadn't eaten in days. They reminded her of her dogs, waiting attentively at the woman's command.

"I hope I have not interrupted with our entry" said the woman "We have a long drive to Oldtown and Lord Beesbury had offered us accommodation for the night".

Lady Beesbury did not look very pleased, but she could do nothing against her husband's orders.

"Well... I guess you may sit down, please, please, you must be starving" said the old lady.

Lucrezcia sent an amused glance at her father, who looked tense but intrigued as Lady Blackwood's men swept through the feast.

"And tell me, Lady Blackwood. What is your business so far from the Riverlands?" asked her father, sipping from his wine glass.

"Our maester fell ill a couple of moons ago. We were travelling to the Citadel to request reinforcements at Raventree Hall. My Lord Brother sent me on his behalf".

"I understand" said her father.

As the rivermen gulped, Alyssane looked at her father.

"And what are you doing, Lord...?"

"Lord Redwyne" interrupted Lady Beesbury "Lord Redwyne of the Arbor and his daughter, Lady Lucrezcia, are here as my guests, as are all these distinguished gentlemen".

Black Aly surveyed the table, the distinguished gentlemen looking rather uncomfortable at the presence of her men. She then looked at the girl in the salmon-coloured dress. Lucrezcia felt a little self-conscious, but smiled at the new guest. She smiled back.

The woman from the Riverlands could not be more than ten years older than her. And she was not stupid. The picture was so obvious that asking the question was totally unnecessary.

The dinner went as smoothly as possible. With the suitors gradually withdrawing as Lucrezcia's father and Lady Alyssane had an arduous conversation about the politics and succession of the realm, with the recent birth of Prince Joffrey.

Lucrezcia learned there that the Blackwoods were a Riverlands family of considerable prestige, the only one in their lands to practice the religion of the Old Gods. Lord Luther had long sought to expand into the interior of the continent, exporting mostly to coastal cities.

Any occasion is good for business, Lucrezcia supposed.

Her maid, Nyssa, was quick to come and fetch her as the hour of the wolf approached. As did Lady Beesbury.

"It was a pleasure to meet you, Lady Lucrezcia," Alyssane said goodbye. "I had hoped that tomorrow we might be able to breakfast together in the gardens, if Lady Beesbury sees fit for your... matchmaking".

The old woman didn't seem to agree, but after the disaster with her first twenty suitors, she figured that giving the girl the morning off would be a good idea.

"The pleasure was all mine, Lady Alyssane," said the girl before following Lady Beesbury and Nyssa to her chambers.

Once the girl was out, only Lord Luther, Black Aly and an empty jug of wine were left in the hall.

"She is a beautiful girl, you are very lucky, Lord Redwyne," congratulated the woman.

Luther wanted to laugh in her face. Yes, his third daughter was beautiful, a light brown-haired beauty with huge green eyes, a fine face and a pretty composition.

"She'd make an ideal wife, if she wasn't a problem with legs." The man began as Lady Alyssane listened " The girl is the smartest of my four daughters, and the most ambitious. Nine septas she has cost me in less than four years, they say she is incorrigible" the man massaged his temple "I had hoped a husband would soothe her spirit" he lamented.

In his deepest dreams, Luther regretted that Lucrezcia was not a man. She would have been the perfect heir, but sadly the laws and her own opinions deprived her of that status.

Luther had to marry off his daughter. That was the custom and the law.

Black Aly listened with attention, scheming in her own mind.

Lucrezcia reminded her of herself, a young woman who just wanted her place in the world. Though Aly had been luckier in the family, from what she was hearing. While her father described his third with a mixture of resentment and pride, as she noticed, the girl did not remind him only of her.

A highly intelligent, cool-headed young noble who enjoyed risk but knew how to keep her composure. She couldn't help but compare her to her own nephew.

Benjicot Blackwood had just turned six and ten, a year younger than Lucrezcia. The boy was proper and somewhat shy among his own kind, but lately quarrels with the Brackens had him in a mess, hanging out with his grooms at the tavern, brawling and neglecting his lessons.

He needed to wise up.

He needed a new goal.

He needed a wife. Her brother, and father of the boy, Lord Samwell Blackwood, had tried to bring up the subject several times, perhaps this was the right occasion.

"I believe, my lord, that I can offer clarity on our problems," the woman commented. "My own nephew, Benjicot Blackwood, future Lord Blackwood and heir to Raventree Hall, may stand as a suitor for your daughter," she explained.

Luther seemed to sober up suddenly. It was a good way to make contacts with the Riverlands, as well as sending his daughter far away.

"How much do you want for her?"

He knew it wasn't smart to send it to the first person who would offer. But she had been on the marriage market for years and nothing. It was a golden opportunity, both for him and for Blackwood.

"I shall write to my brother first thing tomorrow morning. He will discuss with you the details of the dowry, the wedding and so on".

"As tempting as it sounds, I know my daughter, she is capable of galloping away if I promise her to a complete stranger who has never seen her life".

"And for that, my lord" Black Aly leaned her elbows on the table to approach the lord in front of her and say "She'll think it's her idea".

Luca and Adam shared a look and nodded, they had just finished practice and we’re going to make sure that Julianna and Luca finally get together.

Luke and Adam walked over to Luca who had just finished getting dressed and both of them grabbed one of his arms and dragged him out of the locker room.

“Uh guys?” Luca warily questioned as the two younger ones dragged him into another room and closed the door behind them.

“When are you asking out my sister.” Luke glared at Luca, Luke has been patiently waiting for Luca to get his act together and ask Julianna out because if he has to watch them pine after each other any longer he was gonna lock them in a room together.

“What?” Luca paled and chocked on air looking at the two in a panic.

“Please you are totally in love with Julia.” Adam deadpanned looking at his brother not knowing why he’s trying to deny it’s so obvious.

Luca gave Luke a wary look not sure if this a good thing to talk about in front of a very protective little brother.

“Oh don’t be quiet on my account. My sister seems to like you so you’re alright.” Luke shrugged nonchalantly. He wouldn’t do anything to scare Luca off too much unless Luca messes us and hurts Julianna’s feelings.

“And if i am?” Luca questioned looking between the two not sure if he is liking this mischievous friendship that has formed between Luke and Adam.

“Then tell her. She likes you.” Luke looked extremely exasperated.

“She does?” Luca perked up like a happy puppy looking incredibly hopeful.

“Yeah so tell her your feelings and get together already!” Adam almost all but shouted at his older brother.

“How should i tell her?” Luca looked panicked.

“Just tell her.” Adam shook his head at his brother.

“And get her daises.” Luke told Luca.

“Because they are her favorite.” Luca piped ip before Luke could and Luke looked slightly impressed but nodded his head in agreement.

“Don’t mess it up. And make her happy and we have no problems.” Luke sternly told Luca, making sure to play the protective brother especially because Jack and Quinn aren’t here to do so.

“I promise.” Luca quickly nodded, “Thank you!” Luca called out as hurried out of the room.

Luke and Adam shared one more fond eye roll.

Luca jogged out of the room, down the hallway and out of the arena. He hurried to his car and hopped in.

Luca drove out of the parking and onto the street and drove to the flower store. He quickly parked and walked into the store seeing an older lady working.

“Oh what can i do for you today?” The older lady smiled very brightly as Luca walked in.

“Daises. She loves daises.” Luca quickly rambled out and the older lady smiled fondly being able to tell when someone is in love having been in the flower business for a long time now.

“Just daises?” The lady questioned kindly as she started to grab her supplies.

“Yes she like the simplicity of just daisies.” Luca quickly answered remembering when Julianna talked about her favorite flower.

“Sounds like you know her well.” The older lady kindly stated as she grabbed her newest bunches of daisies and started to form the bouquet.

“I do. At least i hope i do.” Luca soflty answered, he knows he doesn’t know everything about Julianna yet but he can’t wait to learn the rest.

“Here you go.” The lady smiled and handed him the bouquet with a light blue ribbon wrapped around the bottom with a bow, something Luca knows Julianna will adore.

“Thank you!” Luca beamed knowing they are perfect for Julianna, “How much do i owe you?” Luca asked as he started to grab his wallet.

“Nothing.” The lady simply told him making him look at her confused, “It’s for a good cause.” The lady smiled she enjoys a good love style.

“Thank you.” Luca smiled feeling very touched and pulled out a twenty dollar bill and putting it in the tip jar, “It’s for a good cause.” Luca cheekily replied when he saw her look.

Luca smiled and walked out for he shop and got into his car and started the drive to her apartment.

Luca quickly got out of the car and jogged up the stairs in her apartment building and through her hallways till he was at her door and he knocked on the door.

Luca felt his breath catch as she opened the door and was in a soft pink long sleeve matching pajama set and the color was perfect with her hair and her hair was in a messy braid.

“Lu?” Julianna titled her head curiously but smiled seeing him at her door.

“Hi.” Luca breathed out and brought his hands out from behind his back and put the bouquet in front of her, “For you.”

Julianna took a shocked breath, she has gotten flowers many times before but never from someone romantically that she felt the same towards. And only her brothers has gotten her daises no one else has ever thought they should be bouquet flower.

“They’re beautiful.” Julianna beamed as she gently held them in her hands and looked up at Luca with a beaming smile, “Thank you.” She smiled softly.

“Oh i should put them into a vase!” Julianna quickly turned around and walked back into her apartment and knew Luca would follow behind her.

She gently set her flowers onto her kitchen counter and grabbed a vase and filled it water. She sadly had to take the ribbon off the flowers but tied it around the vase as she put the flowers into the vase.

Luca closed the door behind and walked in behind her admiring as she gently took care of her flowers and he couldn’t wait any longer he walked up to her and gently grabbed her waist spinning her around to him.

Julianna gasped slighty as her hands fell onto his chest catching her as he had spun her around.

“Please don’t hate me.” Luca’s voice shook and before Julianna could even ask he was pressing his lips to hers so gently and he could feel as she slowly smiled into the kiss and all but melted into him.

Julianna wrapped her arms around his neck pulling him closer.

Julianna gently pulled away but kept her eyes on him and she knew her smile was wide and her cheeks were burning.

“Hi.” Julianna let out a fond giggle at Luca’s words.

“Hi.” Julianna beamed back.

“Can i take you on a date this Saturday?” Luca nervously questioned even though he literally just kissed her.

“On one condition.” Julianna looked very serious as she spoke, Luca hurriedly nodded.

“As long as you’re my boyfriend now.” Julianna teased him soflty watching the worry slip off his face.

“Oh really?” Luca teased her back leaning his face closer to her’s again.

“Yes.” Julianna tried to look serious as she nodded but she was beaming.

“Then of course Jules. I would love nothing more.” Luca earnestly replied to her watching as she lite up even more and her smile got even wider and Julianna leaned closer and pressed her lips back to his.

In the Smith side household, Julianna had given birth to triplets the previous year, named for her husband John, mother Malota, and sister Helenwise.

In 1319, Julianna and her son, John, succumbed to a fever. Julianna was the final sim of our first generation, and gave birth to 12 children, of which 4 survive.

Their deaths left the four remaining girls without a parent, and the Smith family without a male heir - Madog is the only surviving gen 2 male in our Hayes family tree!

The two oldest children, Quenilda (child) and Chastity (toddler), have joined the Hayes household, where they'll be able to help out around the farm.

The two infants, Malota and Helenwise, have moved into the household where their cousins from the Rolfe family are residing, a Knight's stronghold where their uncle previously served under Lord Breton. The Lady of the household was glad to take in the infants, as she had been unable to conceive herself since the birth of her son, and she will be raising these children as her own.

When the eldest Smith daughter marries, her husband will take on responsibility of the Smith estate.

Summary: Julianna was Tyrion Lannister daughter from a random whore, she was as what others say a replica of the late Lady Joanna Lannister. But little Juli wasn't t just a simple child, no she was made for something greater. Even thou she was a bastard Tyrion still took Julianna in, in an attempt to ire his father, the great lion Tywin Lannister. And add to that, King Robert Baratheon legitimized her just to annoy the old lion.

"Probably whoring his way in some brothel." He answered with clear annoyance and disgust in his tone.

"Have you ever been in any brothel, grandfather?" I asked with real curiosity. Given how proud the old lion was, my guess is he never did, and if he ever did it won't be for pleasure as he is always about business.

He hummed, and seemingly contemplated for a moment but he didn't answer my question.

But I knew the truth, Tywin Lannister isn't so different from Tyrion Lannister when it comes to carnal desires.

Ever since Carrie was young she knew she was betrothed to Prince Reginald-an agreement made when she was but an infant to save his kingdom and elevate her to the rank of royalty. Carrie would much rather choose her own match, to marry for love, but she is made to understand her duty as a daughter, and that such agreements are not so easily undone. That does little to soothe the feeling of being traded off, but the promise of a crown is an appealing one. 

She has never met Reginald-there’s a whole process, so they exchange letters and gifts for years, with no idea how the other will look. But she gets to know his heart this way, as much as she can. She keeps getting told what Reggie is like, because correspondence can only reveal so much, but it doesn’t quench her curiosity for his appearance. It’s not enough to hear he has dark hair and green eyes, she wants to see him for herself. 

Finally her father tells her they are going to visit, to ensure Reginald is no monster, to show her the palace in which she’ll be living. It hurts to say goodbye to her home, the servants who all but raised her, the forests where she rode her horse, the books that kept her company when she had next to no friends to converse with. She is sure the staff at the palace are nice enough, and she knows Reggie has a horse set aside for her, but they won’t be what she’s used to. 

So they load up the carriage, and Carrie watches the manor disappear behind them, not tearing her eyes away for a long time, not wanting to face the future quite yet. She and her father don’t speak much, but that’s par for the course; he’s spent most of her life being aloof and occupied with running the estate instead of raising her. 

He never speaks of her mother, and all Carrie has is her portrait tucked away in the attic to know her by, given her last breath and Carrie’s first were all but simultaneous. She has asked, but her father claims it is too painful, and so Carrie stopped asking. He’s not unkind, but they have never been close, and Carrie doubts that will change once she has been married off to someone living leagues away. 

The castle is nice, not overly fancy, but it’s a far call from her manor, and that says something. They receive a nice welcome from the staff, and are led to very nice rooms to relax before their audience. Carrie is glad to get out of her dusty travel clothes, washing up and trying to nap before she gets introduced to her future husband, but to no avail. She’s too nervous to sleep, tossing and turning in the luxurious sheets before the maid comes in to help her dress. 

She’s led through winding halls and wonders how she’ll ever find her way around here once it’s her home. She might need to enlist someone to draw her a map, lest she have to have a servant escort her everywhere. Though as future Princess, she might just have a guard at her side at all times regardless. It feels as though she’s given up her freedom for a crown. 

The throne room is expansive and sprawling, like it’s trying to be grander than it is; she had heard the current king, her future father in law has quite the ego, and this is but a mere reflection of it. She curtsies at the dias, eyes downcast, waiting to look up, to finally clap eyes on her intended. 

“This is Lady Carolynn,” a voice states. “One of your intended.”

“And this is Lady Julianna, your other intended.” 

Carrie looks to her side and suddenly notices another girl there, gorgeously beautiful, and looking just as perplexed as Carrie feels. 

“Your Majesty… why are there two brides to be?” Carrie’s father asks. “I was under the impression my daughter was to be the sole wife of your son.” 

“You presumed wrongly Lord Wilson,” the king replies, his tone haughty. “In my land we take multiple wives-increases the chance of a male heir. My son’s mother made the decision to cap it at two, and though my son has argued one wife would be sufficient, he has agreed to this arrangement.” 

“Why were we not informed?” another voice asked, and Carrie has to presume this is Julianna’s father, given the hand he has on her shoulder, a small comfort, but it is more than her own father has offered her. 

“It is a well established practice in my land. If your historians had done their research when inquiring after a suitable match they would have known. But the contracts have been signed, dowries have been exchanged, and you both should know I am not to be trifled with should you try to walk away from our agreement.” 

“It’s fine,” Julianna said, her voice ringing out, a musical quality to it that immediately entrances Carrie. “I am sure Carolynn and I shall become the closest of friends and shall share the duties of Princess well.” 

“Ah yes. Only whomever delivers the heir shall receive the title,” the king intoned. “The other shall be Princess Consort, and Queen Consort when my son takes the throne.” 

Carrie bristles at that-they had been promised a title, a place in the court, but even she knew that the offering of the king was little more than a courtesy, with no power or rank behind it. 

A soft hand reaches over-and Carrie realizes it is Julianna, who gives her a smile. Who rolls her eyes a little, and Carrie has to hold back a snort. They will get through this-together. At least if their marriage is miserable, Carrie feels she has an ally now, and she can endure the worst with Julianna’s hand in hers. 

And with Reggie of course, who insists they use the nickname, no title required, Julie and Carrie doing the same, even as they lament the trickery at play here, which Reggie grimaces at. He promises them he’s going to change the title rule the second a crown is on his head, and that he honestly is in no rush to have children, but is very excited to start planning the most extravagant wedding. 

Carrie thinks this might just work out as they dive into planning a ball to introduce the girls to the kingdom. Bonding even further as the three of them share a love of music and similar foods. 

Carie figures things could have ended up worse-Reggie is even more handsome than she imagined, Julie a quite beautiful lass, and the three of them decide to make the most of what they have. Love may come, and it may not-it does, though it does take nearly a year of marriage for it to happen-but at least they have each other, and that’s worth enough here and now.

Audra and Christine: Best Friends Forever

VOTE HERE: Audra McDonald vs. Christine Baranski

Though they may tear us apart in this poll, Audra and Christine have been attached at the hip for years. As co-stars on The Good Fight, Diane Lockhart (Christine), and Liz Lawrence (Audra) have been friends, enemies, and lovers* for five of six fantastic seasons. There will be a much longer Good Wife/Fight post later, but for now, here's just a brief overview of these two lawyers and their fabulous wardrobes.

Both Diane and Liz originated from The Good Wife, the precursor to the Christine-led Good Fight spinoff. Diane as a supporting character in 156 episodes; Liz as a one-off friendly rival to Alicia Florrick (played by Julianna Margulies, and we don't talk about her here). Liz's first appearance was in "Runnin' With the Devil" where she squares off against Florrick in court.

And oh my, oh my will you look at that? Who can that be? Why, it's Bebe Neuwirth as Judge Claudia Friend in her third guest appearance. She too would later show up on The Good Fight (and her character is the subject of an ongoing fanfiction series...).

Audra and Christine shared no scenes in this one-off appearance, but they'd later more than make up for this oversight. Liz and Diane spend a fair deal of time at odds with one another over issues of race, ethics, and politics. But they love and respect one another just as their actresses do.

They also spend a lot of time making up while drinking. And speaking of drinking...

The pandemic gave us one good thing: zoom interviews and events like Sondheim's 90th Birthday concert where Broadway's best and brightest celebrated his legacy. The most iconic performance of the evening was, of course, Meryl Streel, Christine Baranski, and Audra McDonald in white bathrobes, getting legitimately plastered as they warbled out "The Ladies Who Lunch."

While The Good Fight may have come to a close, Audra and Christine continue to remain co-stars, this time on The Gilded Age, a show set in the 1880s where they have, thus far, shared no scenes. In 2022, stars from The Gilded Age appeared on the "Stars in the House" telethon benefit for Ukraine, and I need all of you to watch this interactions for a few reasons, number one being the appearance of Katie Finneran in the later half where everything devolves into chaos of the best kind. Katie, a woman after my own heart, basically propositions Audra and Christine for a threesome, and I am here for it.

If anyone wants to know how this interview proceeds, Audra and Christine eventually leave to get drunk together, and later Audra shows up on site to perform a song while ever-so-slightly tipsy. She is, of course, incredible.

In the opera-halls and honey-dens they're still settling on a name for her. The Fanciful Frenchwoman, perhaps; the Dignified Dilettante. Lady Celestine Lupin, she calls herself, and while nobody's sure she's really of high station, she carries herself like it and dresses well, so what's the point of arguing? In the alleys of Spite and the roofs of the Flit, though, among the criminals and some few of the devils, they use other names: Ciel, if they need a first name, or the Comely Cat-burglar, if they need a title. As for her opinions on those more secret names...well, she mostly smiles and waves off any questions. Although, she notes, she prefers weasels to cats, but that is less charmingly alliterative.

Celestine! She is most certainly not a lady, but with a nice enough dress and nice enough jewels and a good enough lie, who's to know? I pulled from some 1890s dresses for this outfit (although I'm rather downplaying the sleeves) and I'll tag for @neathyfashioncoalition, even though I want to do a more ornate Celestine outfit later.... well, we'll see.

Celestine lies about a lot, but she is in fact from France. She never knew her father, and her mother -- unable to care for the child alone -- dropped Celestine at a catholic orphanage, so her child would be raised right and Catholic even if they couldn't be raised by her.

That...didn't entirely work out. Celestine, even then, was drawn to feminine fashion and affectation in a way that was seen as ungodly; the orphanage was also underfunded and poorly-run. It was in short a shitty victorian-era Catholic orphanage, and Celestine was a troublesome young transgender girl. Celestine grew up painfully aware of the fact that the same people who treated her terribly went on to preach about kindness and charity from the pulpit, and firsthand experience of this hypocrisy led her to conclude from a young age that the world was cruel, virtues and morals are things used by the powerful to cover up their own crimes, and in the end the only person you could trust was yourself.

When she was an adolescent she stole several valuables from the parish attached to the orphanage and ran away, selling them and stealing more for money as she flitted from town from town, leaving whenever she started getting too close to getting caught. Eventually she ended up in England, which I'm willing to bet has somewhat lower scrutiny because their government is by and large underground, and set up her usual set of cons and thefts there. While there, she ended up falling in with a music-hall singer, Julianna, and the pair not only had a fling but helped each other pull off cons. Eventually Julianna and her sister Clarabelle went to try their luck in the Neath, and Celestine remained on the surface...for a time.

But when Julianna wrote of the Neath, of the ease of recreating yourself there and the riches that could be found...well. What thief wouldn't try to take the opportunity?

So I’m always happy to dunk on feminists who scream “SEXUALIZED!” at any woman who displays more traditionally feminine traits, because some of them think any women with a cup size larger than A is “sexualization” and frankly they are indiscernible to me from religious fundamentalists that think any sign of cleavage on a woman is inappropriate.

At the same time, what exactly is happening in your head when you think “a pair of faceless female robots with large breasts are inherently superior in design to other female video game characters because they get my dick wet” is a good tweet that doesn’t make you look like a weirdo?

I haven’t played Atomic Heart. IDK if the robots being sexualized is relevant to the plot or their character or not- nor do I care, because the devs can design their female characters however they like. Sexualize them all you want, I don’t care- sexy can be fun.

But conversely, devs do not have to make their female characters “sensual” or “feminine” to your tastes, because the defining factor of a good female character or their design is not if they get your dick wet.

IDK who the character on the bottom left is, so I can’t fact-check anything else about her character-design. But she doesn’t look masculine to me- she just looks like a woman with short-hair. And I shouldn’t have to tell anyone familiar with video games that a lot of devs are fond of finding ways to give women short (or very contained, like in braids or ponytails) hair so they don’t have to animate longer hair.

The top-right lady (Selene Vassos from Returnal) is modeled on this woman.

It’s a pretty close match. Are we now going to argue that her model isn’t feminine enough? Selene isn’t designed to be “sensual”, she’s designed in the same vein as Ellen Ripley: A female scifi action character who wears clothing that makes sense for her role. And yeah, those clothes aren’t always going to be particularly “feminine”, because that doesn’t make narrative sense.

Aloy is not meant to be “sensual” either, she is meant to be a post-apocalyptic warrior. Additionally, picking a deliberately awkward shot of her face from the State of Play trailer to downplay her femininity is a red flag that you’re not being intellectually honest. I’ve played this game: Aloy’s face is normal. Dude deliberately found a shot where her face looks weird because of the angle.

Also, you can get different outfits for her in-game. Some of them are less conservative than others and show off her body and curves more, but most all of them make sense in context for her to wear because they involve armor and animal hides.

And then of course we have the massive L of deliberately cherry-picking these four characters for bullshit reasons when I can just as easily post shots of Lady Dimitrescu and her daughters, Mia Winters, Jill Valentine, Claire Redfield (all from Resident Evil), Kara, Chloe, and North from Detroit: Become Human, Julianna Blake from Deathloop, Elizabeth Comstock from BioShock: Infinite, Dani Nakamura from Callisto Protocol, Bayonetta, any of the female characters from Until Dawn or The Quarry, most of the female characters from Assassin’s Creed and Final Fantasy...

I don’t see him congratulating the Resident Evil team on making Lady D sexy (or maybe that was because thousands of other people beat him to it? I recall Lady Dimitrescu’s sexiness being relatively uncontroversial) or the Final Fantasy XV devs for giving Cindy big boobs and a revealing outfit.

You get my point, right? He specifically cherry-picked four characters (and within that, cherry-picked specific pictures of those characters) that are not overtly feminine in appearance when he literally had dozens of other options to pick from- but those options would disprove his point.

tl;dr bad twitter post, Feminist Frequency would be grudgingly proud of your cherry-picking skills my dude, and female character design does not and should not always revolve around whether or not it tickles your pickle.
