Constance Chatterley (Lady Chatterley's Lover)

Unlike in 21st century England, where routine circumcision is basically unheard of, from the mid 19th century to the mid 20th century, circumcision was a marker of class in England. Upper class mothers near-universally circumcised their sons to prevent phimosis and all the problems they believed that lead to (including masturbation, cancer, epilepsy, and paralysis) while working class mothers mostly saw it as an unnecessary expense, only opting for it if they were Jewish.

Lady Chatterley's husband would certainly have been circumcised, and she certainly would have circumcised any sons she had with him, but things change when she falls in love with a lower class groundskeeper. In the 2022 film version of the story, he is shown to be uncircumcised, and when a pregnant Lady Chatterley renounces her wealth and title to be with him, she probably renounces circumcision as well.

Thanks for the tag @phillipsgraves and @eclecticwildflowers 💗 I'm trying to get through my February prompts for year of the otp so here's a snippet from my February prompt for Lily and Tangerine! Under the cut for some spiciness!

Lily had just gotten to one of her favorite parts in the book, one shared between Lady Chatterley and her lover, Oliver. There was something so…meaningful about their desire and love between each other. Lily knew it went beyond the physical, beyond the way their two bodies met and the passion they shared.

But Lily knew it was never real. Such bonds between people, far beyond the physical, was just a sto–

Tangerine’s face flashed in her mind as she read over a particularly sinful moment was shared between Constance and Oliver. A warmth pooled in her belly and she started to imagine Tangerine there with her, performing the same–

A knock came from her door, making Lily jump. She reread the scene and immediately slammed the book shut.

Maybe it was Tangerine at the door?

The thought was fleeting but Lily chastised herself anyways.

What was she thinking. Lily put the book down and stood up, smoothing the front of her dress. Tangerine was only gods knows where, probably off on some job with his brother. A job that most likely was going completely awry, leaving him bloody…disheveled…
