i will work on that and post a set this week :) kiell was very fun!
hmm i can't say i'm sure about sandi — though i'm loving her hair this series and she's beautiful as ever!
i would also love to know anything about miles' new show, if anyone has details about it to share 🥺 it's gotten lots of positive reviews, pretty solidly 4/5 stars everywhere i've seen. but even without a personal panelshowsource follower review i recommend getting a ticket!! and then coming back and telling us about it!!
hello and thank you :) sure, i put that on my drive for you here. enjoy!
he actually is 100% that bitch
i don't have this on drive atm only because it's really so easy to source. both were just posted in tv_bunny a couple of weeks ago, for example 🥲 i recommend heading over there and making a request, and someone will have links for you right away! lmk if you have any issues
does watching it on dailymotion work for you?
hello! yes, you can find ladsladslads over in the standup folder :)
their breakup was certainly intense for them both... i think i recall sara saying around the time-ish that she had expected they would really be together for the long haul, so as things began to disintegrate she was very disoriented. i also recall there being a bit of an ugly period between them — like, publicly — which was unfortunate, but they both seemed to be carrying their own bitternesses and that was surely hard
it's funny — i talked a bit about this a couple months ago, but thinking about them both reminds me so much of the rhlstp with john kearns: he talked about how, in this day of social media, audiences expect comedians to show themselves on stage, to give you that peek behind the curtain and personal anecdotes/opinions/details, and really share who they are with you — and he doesn't like that expectation. he's doing surreal and often absurd comedy, playing a character who's almost nothing like him at all, so the real john doesn't need to bleed through for the show to work. but people like sara and john...they use the stage as a form of therapy; sara uses it as a form of workshopping, communicating, connecting, sharing; i often think john is grasping, sometimes desperately, at the opportunity to be seen and heard. (his new show howl, which has gotten quite good reviews, is about his sobriety, for example!) so even though there were aspects of their breakup experience that were intense and very personal, i really hope that sharing them helped them both :)
hope we'll get to see his new show howl sometime soon, which is about his sobriety!
i have my theories about how john will be on taskmaster... let's just say, i think he'll be quite earnest and try very hard, and i think what alex has said about it being very difficult to do a character on taskmaster/the show showing people's true colours will be very relevant LMAO i can def see john coming on and trying to be cool and collected and just breaking down LMAOOO but agree it will be interesting! and personally i do always love the dynamic between greg or alex and one of their good friends heh

Louis hangs out with his band and crew > makes him less gay #ladsladslads
Harry hangs out with his band and crew > he has to be shagging them all
This fandom loves to create problems
So true.

Why does Louis' record label insist on this chav image when it's so old fashioned and has turned off a lot of potential fans? People think he's shallow because he always talks about partying and his love of McDonald's and vodka Red Bull and watching TV. Whereas Harry is allowed a more sophisticated image with learning Italian, going to art galleries, swimming/gym and reading novels. I struggle to understand it.
I don't neccessarily think that chav is the stereotype they're aiming for when it comes to Louis' image. I think it certainly has elements of chav, but not always and not stereotypically. I think they're going for a local, common but urban, athleisure, alternative, indie, a bit grungy, a bit young and dumb (someone who'd get a one night stand pregnant) and relatable image. But we've also seen that he can scrub up well at events (his documentary premieres). That wasn't chavy at all. As i've said before i think it's something he's comfortable with because it matches some of his personality (Doncaster pride, heavy accent, smoking, focus on friendship, football and fashion). The image also aligns with the sound he's going for musically, and maybe more importantly, it sets him apart from the other 1D members and it's the exact opposite from Harry's image (making people think they're very different persons and could not possibly be in a relationship). The image Louis has is very reductive, and despite me not liking his style or ladsladslads focused behaviour, i think reducing him to just this (making him shallow as you say), when we know he's so much more than this, is what bothers me the most. I think for the most part they're going for this image to cater to new audiences (alt/indie men) to grow his fandom. Good luck with that.
As for Harry they're almost going the opposite way, but maybe too much. It fits the image they're going for and his sound. As with Louis, it's something Harry can deal with. He's made out to be this clean living, perfect, kind to the core, charitable person (which he is). But combined with this overly cultured, wannabe tortured artist and pretentious image, and combined with his privilege (which he don't fully understand) there's discrepancies there too. The more he preaches TPWK while simultaneously buddies up to James Corden, the more i want to tear my hair out. Harry's image is hard to live up to. Harry needs to make an effort to live up to his image, but Louis must 'dumb down'. Neither of them are what they're made out to be. Harry is less perfect and more of a commoner and Louis is more well spoken and diverse.

My scrolling through Josie Long YouTube video clips yesterday turned into learning that she did a 30-minute version of her Something Better show on Live at the BBC, a thing I had somehow never known before, despite having looked for it previously. That's the one show that had been stopping me from being a completist about her stand-up shows - my Josie Long folder has at least one full-length version of all the shows she's done as Edinburgh/touring shows, except something better in 2016. I was disappointed that this one seemed to have never been filmed, until last night, when I learned that she did quite a bit of it for Live at the BBC. So now that video is also in my folder and I am a more successful completist.
Not completely successful, because it's still not the full show. But it's a lot better than a little clip, like a Live at the Apollo set that only gives them about ten minutes. Live at the BBC gives them 30 minutes, which is much better. I do have one basis for comparison, having heard the full version of John Robins' Speakeasy off his Bandcamp page and I saw the 30-minute version of Live at the BBC, and the latter covers enough of the former to make me feel like you are getting a good idea of what the actual show is like.
So I watched Josie Long's Live at the BBC thing, and it was really good. A lot of it was material I'd heard before, scattered around in shorter clips, but it was so much better to see it all at once, the way it's supposed to come together. It was a Brexit show, obviously, because it was 2016, and it had all the Josie Long contrasting of hope and optimism with righteous political anger, and she told us about books she was reading, and it was great fun and so very worth the thirty minutes. There were some really funny references to her earliest shows, and contrasting different parts of her style, and it was an interesting bridge in the gap between the kind of thing she was doing in the early 2010s and the more recent stuff. She did her fun characters. It was great fun. And of course there was an exciting and inspiring rallying cry. All the stuff you want from Josie Long.
After that I looked up the Live at the BBC show, because I like the idea of a TV show that lets comedians do more than the usual ten-minute sets that you get on TV, and I watched Sara Pascoe's episode. It was also really, really funny, and reminded me of how funny Sara Pascoe is. I kind of had it in my head that her stand-up isn't for me, because a while ago I watched her do a short thing on a NextUp stream that I didn't enjoy at all, but to be fair to her she said it was very new material at the testing stage. Then more recently I re-watched her LadsLadsLads show and it made me laugh a lot, and it reminded me that she is actually very good.
Her Live at the BBC special was entirely material I'd not seen before, and it also made me laugh a lot, and then I wondered why LadsLadsLads seems to be the only full stand-up hour she's ever filmed (please correct me if I'm wrong about that), but I decided I want more of this so I will settle for the short TV clips. So then I went back down a YouTube clip journey, this time of Sara Pascoe clips, and have spent all morning watching them and they're very funny. Here's a small sample of ones from various years that I particularly enjoyed:

Best of Enemies (Young Vic)* The Collaboration (Young Vic)* Cyrano de Bergerac (Harold Pinter)* Bonnie and Clyde (Arts Theatre)* Much Ado About Nothing (globe)* Much Ado (National Theatre)* The Tempest (Globe)* Jack Absolute Flies Again (National Theatre)* Six (Hall for Cornwall)* Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo (Hall for Cornwall)* Henry V (Globe)* As You Like It (sohoplace)*
Best of Enemies : Hi we're going to examine ego and the birth of modern media and political commentary and identity and ... yes that is Andy Warhol, everyone else at the party is trying to ignore him too.
The Collaboration: Art! Reawakening artistic impulses! Connection with the world! Tunes! Paul Bettany!
Cyrano de Bergerac: Words, desire, the power of words, rap battles, being a dick because you can, falling for people, depth of emotion, James McAvoy's thighs (my view for the first ten minutes) and Christian and Cyrano falling for each other as well and MY HEART.
Bonnie and Clyde: We're gonna heist and we're going for fame and tomorrow doesn't exist.
Much Ado (Globe): It's Italy post-war. We're all horny as hell, everyone is beautiful, the coppers are trying to kill us laughing via shenanigans, will you please get out of my shrubbery, and ladsladslads is it gay to wrestle your mates this much?
Much Ado (NT) : Setting: Grand Budapest Hotel. Challenge: ice cream toppings and pec popping. Glam as fuck. *mwah*. (not as good as Globe, Beatrice and Benedick were more weirdos who band together than banter, but achingly glam)
The Tempest (Globe): The Island is the spanish riviera, everyone is Brits who think they're better than the natives, Prospero's in a yellow budgie smuggler and it turns out this is actually a comedy, Lionesses win so they have to re-jig the Three Lions lyrics mid-run in glorious fashion and Prospero is absolutely a fuckhead slavemaster.
Jack Absolute Flies Again: WW2 farce! malapropisms delivered so perfectly you nearly kill the audience! ukeleles!
Six: The ushers will dance and you can't stop us. And yes everyone's favourites are the Annes. Sorry not Sorry.
Les Ballets Trockadero de Monte Carlo: The boys are back, they're en pointe and they're glorious.
Henry V (Globe): Henry goes full psychopath to the point that Jude Law's been left in the dust in scary Hals and I didn't think I'd ever say *that*. When the usual comedic bits leave a hole in your soul.
As You Like It (sohoplace): Sorry, hearing actors. Rose Ayling-Ellis has put a cherry on top of why Celia should be played by a deaf actor. (see Globe and Nadia Nadarajah) Entire cast flirting with the pianist should be encouraged. Also: Alfie Enoch needs to go full ham more often. New best stage direction as provided by the subtitles; *pianist improvises frantically*
'Fuck off, keep fucking off, and fuck off again, you’re boring and tiresome and self-involved and why the fuck should I care about you?’ Award:
Aside from all the classical opera (I keep trying. I fail. This is just not a genre I can handle. Decent tunes on occasion, lots of plodding pageantry and singing at people rather than advancing the plot. Though Gods of the Game was pretty decent by virtue of the fact that it kept employing opera tunes footie fans use but for adverts and the chorus of fans. Toreador as the jingle tune for a burger advert the lead is doing? NICE.) Wuthering Heights. Quite brilliant staging, and I thought it would be the Emma Rice-ness turning me off in this but no, it was the Bronte. I literally just want to yell 'fucking leave, don't come back' at everyone. The Emma Rice twiddly dance and music numbers were actually pretty good.

What do you think of Louis fitf promo and the doc afterwards? It seems to me they miscalculated badly with their dad/lad/son promo and attracting more male audience.. it baffles me how much he and his team were not flexible and not willing to change tactics when the fandom has been obviously unhappy (which affected the sale/listening numbers)
Ugh, don't get me started lol.
The doc was doomed because of the F content. The one's with the drive in them to really get this hyped and spread beyond the fandom, aka the larries, were mostly 'no thanks' because of the unneccessary inclusion of Clark jr. Regardless of what audience lthq are targeting, the dad and lad angle is a bust. Either people don't care or they hate it (cause they know it's fake).
Lthq made some blunders along the way (i'm being generous here lol), but i think the promo budget was small to begin with because they assumed the fandom would do most of the heavy lifting. There were no incentive for us to do that though. We do promo and what do we get in return? More lies about the kid and a new beard. The loudest voices with the most followers were tired.
The targeting of the male audience and maybe also the indie crowd is, to me, trying to be everything to everyone at once. I think that's also why everyone is so puzzled by his promo tactics and choices. And also why he's losing fans in the process. While trying to broaden his fanbase, he forgot to first off all cater to the hardcore fans. The cancellation of the Asia-part of his tour was so badly handled i just don't know anymore.
Will a 30 yo male indie/alt leaning from the gp want to listen to music from a 31 yo dude who was in a boyband and is now picking up 22yo pinterest-loving college girls in LA? I doubt it. Will a 15 yo pop/kpop loving girl from the gp want to listen to music from a 31 yo dude who's only personality is deadbeat dad, heavy smoker/vodka redbulls and ladsladslads? I don't think so.
Would either of them listen if wayof was a single and Louis showed his multidimentional personality again? Stopped lying about being a dad, get in touch with his fandom again with better communication? Get in touch with himself again? Would the fandom then be more inclined to help with promo? Yes to all the above. That would require them to listen to the fans, and this time they chose not to.
#give me louis tweeting about getting a pedicure before attending a football match#give me louis carrying books again#make him an interesting person again!#give him a god damn personality!#solo louis#lthq#boyband politics
