fic recs

So, before I forget, for international fanworks day, some fic recommendations. I already wrote a post in september containing quite a few stories that I absolutely love (mostly Sylvaina) and I'll list my favourites again, but there's more behind the cut.

Just as I wrote back in my original post: if you're only ever going to read one fanfic in your life, go read the incredicble Increments of Longing. Even if you don't know anything about World of Warcraft, you'll enjoy it (well, if you're into femslash and fantasy that is).

Another Sylvaina story that I have also read and re-read multiple times now is Worth The Trouble.

A World of Warcraft Dragon Age Inquisition crossover - not yet finished, but I have high hopes - and absolutely lovely to read in terms of characterisation and development between Jaina and Sylvanas is To love what is mortal.

Another Sylvaina entry here is the Heart of Ashes Verse, which gives us a alternative (Legion)/BFA storyline.

And as far as unfinished stories that hurt you just the right way go check out Waystation Four and Never Smile at a Sabercat.

And a real interesting take on elves and how they work in this AU of WoW is found here (sadly unfinished too): What's in a Name? (This one is totally not safe for work from start to finish though :D, most other stories that I recommend here, while featuring some sexy times, start slower.)

One of the most interesting and realistic takes (and very much wholesome Bering and Wells and nicely fitting into the Warehouse 13 world) of the A/B/O trope is Mind Over Matter (Hearts Over Minds). [Though I have actually no clue what I'm talking about because 2021 was the first time I ever came in contact with that trope - I've been living under a rock apparently and was hella confused, because I read a few entries of an urban fantasy series once that also had alpha and omega, though they were actual wolves/shapeshifters and lets just say the fanfic stuff was not what I expected when I clicked on the first story tagged with alpha/omega lmao - and while that was in different fandoms, most of it was from the same author too, so take my recommendation however you want.]

One of my all time favourite Bering and Wells fanfics is Wings.

Also another all time favourite Bering and Wells is "Timeless" by Anik LaChev. You could say it's a timeless classic :D. (You'll have to scroll down a bit on the site to find the link and password, but it's absolutely worth it. It's amazing!)

A really fascinating (and so far sadly unfinished) Historical fiction AU with eldritch horrer elements and pirates with femShep/Liara (and crossdressing - and look, I know it's probably silly, but ever since I watched Prinzessin Fantaghiro as a kid I really love that trope) that I cannot recommend enough is Shepard of the High Seas.

Another repeat - for combining my favourite videogame with my favourite tv show: that SG-1 femShep/Liara crossover New Beginnings.

On the Oliver Queen/Felicity Smoak side of things, I can only repeat what I already wrote: absolutely check out the Felicitas series. It's amazing (it's a Highlander/Raven Crossover with Arrow). I've been following that story for more than six years now.

Another thing: most of the authors of those fics have written not just one but several amazing stories in their respective fandoms and you really might want to check them out too (like, I skipped over pure PWP stuff for these recs, but it is readily available)!

...My time has come. 

First off, I’ve always been a fan of Beachbum’s works, which tend to be deliciously angsty and even more deliciously smutty.

There’s some good stuff in the Voyager section of The Pink Rabbit Consortium, too.  My personal favorite is Freeing Kathryn, which has a healthy dose of angst but with a happy ending, just how I like it.

Susan Thompson has long been my favorite writer in the J/7 fandom, and Sea to Shining Sea is my favorite fic of hers, even if it is in Comic Sans (I C&P’d it to a word document just so I could change the font).  Thank goodness for the Wayback Machine!

Also found only on the Wayback Machine are Kate Shadow’s works.  Sadly, Legends (A Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time crossover with Janeway and Seven taking the role of Link which inspired me to try my hand at writing a Voyager/video game crossover myself) and Music of the Spheres aren’t available even through the WBM, which was hugely disappointing to me as those were the two I most wanted to reread, but her other stuff is well worth a look, too. 

Given the age of most J/7 sites, the WBM is a straight-up godsend.  You can also find Anik LaChev’s works there, and download the zip file of her famed uber Campus.

There’s also The Delta Quadrant of Venus, run by Tenderware.  I like a lot of her stuff, but some of it hits a few squick buttons for me.  YMMV though.

Voyager Conspiracy has some good fic (especially the ubers) and fun stuff in general, especially if you -like me- hate Chakotay.  If you don’t, though, maybe...maybe give it a miss. Eh-heh.

Finally, some shameless self-promotion.  I wrote Trio of Trouble for my friend’s dachshund’s 16th birthday back in 2012.  In it, 3 dachshunds arrive on Voyager courtesy of Q and they immediately proceed to do dachshundy things and cause general chaos.  If you read this you’ll learn that dachshund urine destroys Borg technology, that dogs can have massive entitlement complexes, that Chakotay can emote when dogs are involved, and that Janeway once made a sandwich so terrible that it gained sentience. Thank goodness Seven is there to do the cooking. 

That videogame crossover I mentioned above isn’t explicitly J/7 (yet), and as of now I’ve only got 4 chapters up, but if you like Pokemon then you might enjoy reading Seven’s reluctant Pokemon adventures in Star Trek: Heart Gold.  I’m halfway through writing chapter 5 though, and hope to have it up before the new year.  Fingers crossed, eh?

I would also highly recommend checking out the Janeway/Seven filter in AO3′s Voyager section in general.  There’s some good stuff there, too.

Le déchet - Première partie

De son couteau de dépeçage à lame courbée, il déchira adroitement la peau de sa victime pour la décoller de la chair sur tout le flanc de la bête. Le canidé, encore vivant, tressaillit en couinant lamentablement sous la torture. Il ne pouvait rien faire d’autre que gémir piteusement, il était presque mort. Le chasseur aurait pu l’achever, mais perdre une balle supplémentaire par commisération n’était pas dans sa nature. Ce n’était qu’un animal après tout.

Avant d’être cet amoncellement de chair et de peau, cela avait été son chien, mais ce dernier avait attrapé une proie de trop sans partager avec son maître et avait payé les conséquences de son égoïsme malavisé.

Dès que l’entaille fut suffisamment longue et profonde, le chasseur attrapa la peau du chien avec les doigts tout en tenant les pattes arrière de l’animal et tira un grand coup sec pour décoller la peau de la chair. Le chien eut un dernier soubresaut accompagné d’un glapissement de souffrance, avant de pousser son dernier souffle, soulagé de quitter cette vie de misère qui ne lui avait apporté que souffrance, faim et mépris en récompense d’une servitude docile. Ainsi allait la vie des créatures asservies par les deux-jambes.

Après avoir tendu la peau de son chien pour la faire sécher, il s’occupa de découper la chair pour la stocker. Une fois son travail achevé, le chasseur se rengorgea lui-même d’avoir si bien travaillé. Il aurait de quoi manger pour plusieurs jours et pourrait prendre un peu de temps pour se divertir à la maison close. Rien qu’à l’idée de pouvoir se défouler sur les putes, il sentit son pantalon le serrer.

Son sac sur le dos, le chasseur descendit la pente rocheuse qui le mènerait jusqu’au village où il avait l’intention d’acheter un chiot suffisamment jeune pour être maté convenablement et en faire une vraie chose servile.

– Ben c’est qui m’reste plus qu’ce clebs m’sieur. Ouais, mais r’gardez, il est solide. J’ai vendu tous les autres au marché ces derniers jours. R’garder ma belle comme elle est robuste, elle fait que de costauds corniauds, vous s’rez pas déçu. Elle est un peu maigre là, trop de p’tiots à allaiter et pas assez de proies chassées. Vous savez comment qu’c’est, hein ? Voudriez pas non plus que j’la nourrisse. Elle a tous les rongeurs qui traînent dans l’étable, à bouffer, faut juste qu’elle bouge son cul d’là.

L’agriculteur avait posé le chiot sur la table, juste à côté de la chope de bière éventée que la femme, au regard apeuré et fuyant, avait serviablement offert pendant que les hommes discutaillaient tranquillement affaire. Le chiot était minuscule. Ses oreilles duveteuses lui tombaient de chaque côté et rebondissaient au moindre de ses mouvements joueurs. Il était d’une belle couleur écrue, avec de grands yeux noirs brillants, pétillants de cette joie que seuls les jeunes pouvaient avoir, avant de connaître la vraie vie.

La petite créature, qui avait perdu tous ses frères et sœurs, s’ennuyait de ne plus pouvoir courir et jouer avec eux. Maman avait beaucoup gémi d’être séparée de ses petits pas encore sevrés. Mais elle disait que c’était comme ça à chaque fois et que ceux qui ne trouvaient pas maître rapidement se retrouvaient noyés par le paysan.

Alors, lorsque le deux-jambe de la maison l’avait attrapé par la peau du cou, le chiot avait couiné de terreur, mais maintenant qu’il était sur la table, il en oubliait toute prudence. Les deux-jambes ne cessaient de le scruter avec insistance et il se dit qu’ils voulaient peut-être jouer avec lui. Il frétilla de la queue, ce qui le déstabilisa un instant sur ses pattes encore instables, et s’approcha de l’inconnu, la langue pendante de malice, et se mit à lui lécher les doigts pour l’inciter à venir jouer avec lui. Le deux-jambes lui répondit en lui administrant un violent coup du revers de la main, l’envoyant valdinguer au bord de la table. Le chiot battit frénétiquement des pattes, griffant le bois, dans l’espoir de ne pas tomber, mais son arrière-train était déjà dans le vide. Son propre poids l’entraîna vers le bas et il chut au pied de la table, couinant de douleur en se réceptionnant mal sur le flanc.

Le chiot glapit en se remettant sur ses quatre pattes pataudes, espérant décamper rapidement pour se cacher dans un coin sombre, mais une large poigne lui agrippa de nouveau la peau du dos. Il fut sitôt jeté sans ménagement dans un sac puant la charogne et la mort. Il glapit, se débattit et reçut en retour un violent coup qui le fit sitôt se tenir tranquille.

Vengeance!

Il etait une fois, un link sauvage, se promenant sur son fidel destrié, Milka. Alors qu’ils galopais au alentour du chateau d’hyrule, les deux compagnons furent pris pars surprise.

Deux gardiens, apparu de nul part, leurs sautère dessus, le cheval, pris de peur, partit un peu plus loin. Link tenta donc d’esquivé, en vain, c’est deux bourreau.

Après de multiple tantative, Link entendit un hénissement plaintif, il se retourna et vis Milka, transpersé pars le rayon d’un des malfaiteur. Milka s’éffondra devant les yeux de son maitre.

Link, pris d’une rage folle, s’avança, son épée purificatrice à la main, vers le gardien qui avait tiré, de quelques coup de sa lame il déchiqueta toute ses pates avant de le retourné sur lui même pour lachever.

Il s’approcha alors de l’autre qui subit le même chatiment. Après se dur combat, il ne resta que les rouages et les vis rouillée des deux machines, celles ci aillant été mise hors d’état de nuire, Link alla pleuré auprès du cadavre disparu de son compagnon.

(Se que l’histoire ne dit pas c’est que link alla, un peu après, réssussité Milka chez Marlon, la fée des chevaux)
