The farm was once owned by Beatrix Potter and starred in the feature film ‘Miss Potter’. A working hill farm, Yew Tree comprises of over 700 acres of fell and field in the Yewdale Valley near Coniston, home to a flock of Herdwick ewes and a herd of Belted Galloway Cattle.

We specialise in Herdwick Hogget, Herdwick Mutton and Belted Galloway Beef, our animals roam freely over our herb rich pastures and fells.

When I notice people staring at me (and not stopping) I say In a clear, loud voice “can I help you?” And if necessary I call them out in public for what they are doing (being so creepy). It helps make others more aware, and makes me feel more confident by asserting myself, showing them I am aware of their behavior and will be openly watching them back until they leave me alone.

Yeah, CALL THE POLICE! This was beyond rude and creepy. I would also say make a scene. If he’s standing that close to you on the platform, start yelling at him. I feel like good people will help you.

I never cared if something is not allowed or not. It’s like some people have a problem with self defense. The thugs don’t play by the rules and I don’t either. I will defend myself, so bring it on and be surprised all you nimrods. Like they say better to be judged by 12 than carried by six. I’ll take those odds.

Gardening tips to help combat climate change

Woking sustainability group, Local Action 21 (LA21), is responding to the global climate change challenge by using their AGM to raise awareness amongst local gardeners of how their actions can have a positive impact on the environment.

Garden plants have a huge part to play in helping us to adapt to and mitigate against the impact of climate change. In partnership with RHS Garden Wisley and Woking Borough Council, the LA21 AGM will this year feature an evening of advice and insights from RHS experts and experienced community volunteers.

Discover the benefits plants bring to our environment, learn how to modify your garden to cope with environmental changes and find out about community gardening projects that you can get involved with in the local area.

Cllr Beryl Hunwicks, Woking Borough Council’s Portfolio Holder for Environment and Sustainability, encourages everyone to give sustainable gardening a go: “We are so much more aware of the direct impact that our lifestyles have on the world around us and it has never been a more important time to consider the effect of human actions on the planet.

“For most of us it is impossible to try and solve the world’s problems however, change starts at home and so I urge anyone, even if they have no experience, to get out and start giving back to nature.

“The LA21 AGM will be packed full of great pointers to get you started, or give you a morale boost if you are already a keen gardener who has seen first hand what havoc the changing seasons can bring.

“You don’t even have to own a garden or allotment to get involved, there is so much fantastic community gardening taking place in the Borough that even those with no outdoor space can exercise their green fingers and make a difference.”
