MOLDENSER DIALECT - a dialect of Norwegian
My dialect is the Moldenser dialect, a dialect spoken in the city of Molde (depicted above, very beautiful yes). Here's some examples of how the Moldenser dialect (MOL) may differ from the Standard Norwegian Bokmål (BOK), the most common of two standard written forms of Norwegian:
(BOK) Jeg kommer fra Molde.
(MOL) I kjem fra Molde.
(ENG) I come from Molde.
-
(BOK) Hvordan går det?
(MOL) Kossen går d?
(ENG) How are you?
-
(BOK) Hva er det?
(MOL) Ka ta e?
(ENG) What is that?
-
(BOK) Hva holder du på med nå?
(MOL) Ka du hell på me no?
(ENG) What are you doing now?
-
(BOK) Jeg vet ikke.
(MOL) I vættsje. (<- this is how I say it) / I veit ikkje.
(ENG) I don't know.
-
(BOK) Det var helt forferdelig!
(MOL) Ta va heilt fole!
(ENG) That was so horrible!
-
(BOK) Jeg har vondt i hodet.
(MOL) I e låk i haue.
(ENG) I have a headache.
-
(BOK) Jeg er i A jeg og.
(MOL) I e i A i å.
(ENG) I am in A too.
Keep in mind that people's dialects are usually mixed with other dialects to varying degrees. I speak mostly Moldenser, with minor influences from both Midsunding (Midsund), and less from Trønder (Trondheim). This is because of my parents' origins. Therefore, the way I speak Moldenser may be different from the way someone else speaks Moldenser.
Fun fact: Moldenser was once nominated as one of the worst Norwegian dialects by NRK P3 ... The Oslo dialect won though hehe😌
